Well that was not very encouraging. Okay yeah he was a total stranger to her but he was dressed rather smartly and he had used his manners so it wasn't like he was a dead head or anything.

"Thank you." He said as he pulled out the chair opposite her and sat down. When the waitress delivered the woman's coffee, Hunter ordered himself one and then leaned back in the chair and surveyed the woman across from him.

He was pleased to note that he managed to get a smile from her and also a name. "Please to meet you Laurie." He extended his hand across the table towards her. "Hunter Phillips." Did he need to say anymore than that? Yeah he supposed he did.

"You don't happen to work in the Ministry of Magic, do you?"

Laurie brought her coffee cup to her mouth as she watched the man. Well he was kind of cute, she could have worse company she supposed. Now did he have any brains? That was an entirely different question.

Setting her glass down she held out her hand and shook his firmly as she had come to learn. If she didn't make her presence known people tended to ignore her until they realized how right she was most of the time that was. "Nice to meet you Hunter." At least he knew manners this one as opposed to that guy in her level.

Hearing her question she looked around to make sure no one was listening. She did work in MLE after all. Finding the coast clear she nodded, "Yes, I do. I'm the Director of Public Prosecution." A small smile came to her face as she stated her new title. At least she wasn't labeled assistant anymore. Maybe the move from muggle work to wizarding work was a wise one. "You?" she asked as she picked up her mug again and took a sip of the delicious and much needed coffee.

Elisxa entered the cafe with a smile on her face. Nothing like a cup of coffee from a hard days work from the ministry. She was happy for the simple fact that all the paper work was actually finished and she still had time to kill. If she wasn't in the public view she'd be jumping for joy right now, instead she's force to wait until she gets home later. The jumping can wait can't it?

Taking her cup, she took a little sip from it. She wasn't expecting for anyone and enjoyed this little company she had to herself. She was actually wearing her favorite outfit so maybe it's her lucky day. Who said about a rabbit's foot when you had the power of the muggle credit card. Taking out a file she opened it to see an unsigned paper. Sadly she doesn't exactly speak whatever language that is but it seemed to her as if it was.. Greek. She only knew one word in Greek 'ηλίθιος' which meant idiot. And she was an idiot at the moment for not noticing.

He made no reaction to the hand shake. Hunter had met many women in his time and there were those who liked to assert their authority and there were those who were happy to let the man take charge. Laurie was definitely not one of those women.

His eyebrows raised as she looked around the cafe as though she was checking our for eavesdroppers and he leaned forward, rather curious now. And her answer didn't surprise him at all. He could just tell that she was the type of person that would hold a top notch job. "Impressive." He stated, returning her smile and it was.

The waitress brought over his coffee and he flashed her a quick smile and thanked her before returning his attention back to Laurie, just in time to hear her question. "Well actually I'm just about to start in the Maintenace Department as Supervisor but I have worked in various different departments in the MOM over in the States." He took a sip of his coffee and savoured the strong bitter taste.

"I'm from Britain originally but I have spent the last ten years working In America." He gave her a questioning look. "Does your job allow you to travel at all?"

"Thank you," she said with a smile at his compliment. Well so far he didn't seem like every other guy she'd met. Always a plus. Watching as the woman came over with his coffee she listened to him talking about his job and then the States and a grin came over her face. Something in common.

She found herself leaning forward her complete attention on this man, "Not usually," she said to answer her question. "But I went to school in the States. I lived there for almost 7 years give or take before coming back here myself." This was interesting she had to admit. "So where in the States where you exactly?" her interest thoroughly peaked.

"Washington, mainly." He did prefer to live close to his work. Not that he had any problems with travelling but he just liked to be close by. You know, in case, he decided to have a few firewhiskeys after work.

Hunter felt a smile tug on his lips as he watched Laurie talk and the way she became animated all of a sudden. He took another sip of his coffee and then placed the cup onto the table. "You studied in the States? Tell me about that." It was nice to be able to actually talk to a women on a relatively intelligent level. For some reason he usually attracted the airheads.

Wait...what? She eyed this man sitting in front of her curiously wondering if they had been at the same city at the same time. Though Washington D.C. was a rather big city. Hmm.

She smiled and set her own cup down with a shrug. "Well after I graduated here from Oxford I went to Harvard Law in Massachusetts. Graduated there and went to work in Washington myself for the muggle government in the States. Nothing fascinating really." At least he didn't seem like an utter moron. He was kind of interesting though she'd never admit it she probably wouldn't see him again after this. Buried in her work as her mother used to say. "What about you? How did you end up here?"

Again he was impressed but not at all surprised by Laurie's credentials. Sort of made him feel a tiny bit inadequate beside her. He was good at what he did but he never really tried to extend himself to go that little bit further. "Sounds pretty fascinating to me." He said honestly and flashed her a warm smile.

At her question the smile faded a little and his brow furrowed a little. "Baby sister got herself into some trouble." He said in a low voice, clenching his coffee cup in his hand. "Parents begged me to come home and sort her out." Because apparently he was the only one she would listen to. He unclenched the cup and let out a slow even breath and gave Laurie an apologetic smile. "Gotta look after your family. You got any siblings?"

"Well," she sighed and picked up her mug, "Well if you listen to my mother it's not. She says I work too much and don't enjoy life." Or something stupid like that anyway. Seeing his smile she smiled back, "It really isn't all that fascinating. It's just a bunch of memorizing facts and making an argument, boring really."

Seeing his smile fade she took a sip of her coffee to hide her slight embarrassment at asking the question. She hadn't meant to upset him. "I'm sorry." So did he not want to be back here? Hmm. She was kind of glad she came back. At least she knew people here. "Yes you do." Family was important to her. "Actually I do. Three brothers. They are a handful," she said with a smile as she set the glass down.

He chuckled as he placed his elbows onto the table and leaned forward a little. "Just your mother's way of letting you know that she cares." Or something like that. Hunter raised an eyebrow at Laurie. "Do you enjoy your work?"

He waved away her apology with his hand. "You weren't to know." He picked up his cup and took another sip of coffee and realised he was actually quite hungry. He signaled for the waitress. "I do like being back in Britain though." He could just do without the family drama.

"Younger?" He asked and turned to the waitress when she arrived and ordered a pastry. Turning back to Laurie, Hunter gave her a questioning look. "Would like something to eat?"

A chuckle escaped before Laurie could stop at Hunter's comment and she nodded, "In her own special way. That sounds about right." Hearing his question she nodded with a smile, "I do, a lot." If she didn't she wouldn't be doing it. "Though I do feel a bit like a fish out of water here with the auror guys." Though she could do the spells she never actually had to protect herself that way. What would happen when she had to?

"You never realize how much you miss a place until you're gone for awhile. Or people for that matter." She sure hadn't thought about it but now that she was back she realized how much she missed her family.

She smiled and gave and shook her head at his question, "No, younger. I'm the baby of the family." Though if you saw them together you'd think she was older by the way her brother's acted. "Actually yes, I meant to earlier. Can I have a blueberry muffin and a glass of water please?"

With a grin on his face, Hunter leaned forward even more on his elbows. "Then it doesn't matter if anyone else finds it boring so long as you love what you are doing then that's all that matters." He was pretty sure that she did not want to hear about his job but Hunter enjoyed what he did. His eyes flickered a little with surprise. "I couldn't imagine you feeling uncomfortable anywhere. You radiate confidence." Which is really something he liked.

That was true. He had missed home and his parents. But his sister had been the reason he had moved in the first place and now he was back because of her. "Well I was a little unsure about being here at first..." His eyes met hers for a second and another grin flashed across his face. "But things seemed to be looking up now."

Hunter gestured at the waitress their orders and then looked at Laurie. "But I bet you bossed them around a lot, right?"

A smile came to Laurie's face as Hunter spoke. "Very well said..." She studied him for a moment before leaning forward herself, "What do you do?" And she honestly wanted to know, which was different. "Thank you," that was a compliment right? She thought so. "But there are things I'm uncomfortable about. I think everyone has things though like that they feel inadequate about."

She had to admit she was kind of glad the cafe had been full now. An intelligent conversation with someone was rare for her. She met his eyes and turned slightly red. "You do have a way with words." She finished off the rest of her coffee to hide her blush.

Giving a shrug she laughed, "Sometimes. But I almost always had the last word."

He chuckled softly and his eyes twinkled mischeviously. “Anything I want.” He knew that didn’t answer her question exactly but he felt like teasing her a little. Picking up his cup again, Hunter took a small sip, his eyes never leaving her face and when he had decided that he had kept her in suspense long enough, he lowered the cup. “I have worked in just about every department the Ministry has except the MLE and the Mysteries dept.” He gave his shoulders a small shrug. “I’m a good worker but I haven’t found a job that has made me want to stay and do it for the rest of my life.”

Her comment piqued his interest and another smiled played on his lips. “And what do you feel inadequate about?”

The blush was cute. Hunter liked it on her and he liked the fact that he had been the one to cause it. He tipped her a small wink and grinned. “Only when the company is interesting…and so pretty.” He added. Actually pretty was an understatement but he didn’t want to go overboard. Wouldn’t want her thinking he was some type of sleaze.

The waitress came back with their food, he thanked her and focused his attention back on Laurie. “Probably why you’re a prosecutor.” He said with a laugh before taking a bite out of his Danish. After swallowing the delectable pastry, Hunter tapped the table with his finger. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been in Britain. Would I be too forward in asking if you minded showing me around some time?” Like as soon as possible.

"How uninformative that was," she replied cheekily seeing the amusement he held. She found herself watching his movement as he picked up his coffee and seeing him staying at her quickly looked away blushing again. Damn it. She did not blush. Finally she got an answer and she picked up her glass of water to take a sip. "Well I'm sure you will find something that keeps you entertained. Of course learning new things by working in so many places would be fun for me." If a little stress inducing since she liked stability.

"I..um..." Grrr. Setting her glass down firmly, she chastised herself mentally. She did not fumble for words. "Well I feel inadequate about several things actually." Some he wasn't going to find out. "But mainly that I'm not going to do my job well enough or that someone will come along who can do it better than I can."

Hearing his comment and seeing the wink and grin, she of course blushed again much to her disappointment. He probably said that a lot. "Well thank you." Yeah he probably said that to all the women. Oh well a compliment was a compliment.

She grabbed the muffin and tore off a piece of it trying to figure out this guys angle at the same time. They all had one. She placed the piece in her mouth and chewed it with a shrug at his comment about why she did what she did. Then he was asking her to show him around and she paused as she was about to tear another piece off. Hmm. He seemed nice enough and if he did pull anything she was confident her skills in spell casting out did his. So why not. A break was required every once in awhile. "Sure. I would love to," she said giving him a smile as she pulled off another piece of muffin.
