Sorting Song Submission Thread When the Founders of Hogwarts decided to start a school with houses, they pondered how to sort the children. Of course, Gryffindor wanted the courageous, Ravenclaw the clever, Slytherin the ambitious, and Hufflepuff the loyal. But how would they determine which child was which? "Something for them to hold will tell them in a song!" said Helga. Rowena nodded at her friend. "An object, I agree, but to wear!" "A hat!" said Godric who was eying Slytherin's cap. "Yes," Salazar sneered. "Yours! Its mouth can be the tear." "Ooooo!" Helga squeeled and clapped her hands. "Sal and Row rhymed!" "Then it too shall rhyme!" Rowena said, bouncing up and down with her friend. "Women! Can't live with 'em..." Godric said to Salazar, waiting for him to finish the sentence. "Yep..." Salazar shook his head ruefully. "Certainly can't..." And with that, they bewitched Gryffindor's pointy hat to speak and determine which of the four Houses each new student would enter. It does so by singing a long, rambling song from a tear along the brim. It starts with an introduction and then describes each house. It's gotten more and more rambling as time went on. Droo: I liked this sooo much, I asked permission to keep it. If you enjoy the sorting hat songs, post your poem Ok. Moving it here for the new contest. |
A new generation enters these walls, The new year has just begun, But not to worry for it is safe After a battle here fought was won. Unity came long ago And now it seems to last Division still exists But for the most part it’s in the past And now I’m to separate you For tradition makes it so ‘Cause I am the Sorthing Hat And into one of four houses you will go If you enter Griffindor For those brave at heart With gallantry and loyalty, These bold ones play their part. If you enter Ravenclaw, For those with clever wit, With brains and knowledge, These smart ones never quit. If you enter Hufflepuff, For those with utter devotion With persistence and allegiance, These just ones put things in motion. If you enter Slytherin For those who stand strong, With strength and cunning will, They’re not the easiest to get along. So put me on and you will see, There’s no need for you to fear, For I see everything, you cannot hide Let’s hurry to start off the year! 27 |
Here's my song - hope I'm entering correctly! I have sorted students year by year And I have yet to find A pupil who has got no place, An unreadable mind A wrong choice I have yet to make On which house would be best Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin It is but a simple test You may be placed in Slytherin If you pride ambition and wealth Slytherins achieve their aims By cunning and by stealth Hufflepuff could suit you most If you're one who honours friends If you’re friendly and hard working Always willing to make amends Or else in fiery Gryffindor Where bravery is the key Individuals with character Find this is the place to be Last not least is Ravenclaw Where dexterity is prized Ravenclaws show wit and logic When facing a problem disguised So come up here and try me on Don't try to be a fake And please oh please don’t worry I'm yet to make a mistake! Best of luck to everyone entering :-) 49 - 2069-2070 |
I’m the Hogwarts sorting hat And as you will soon see I’ll put you where you belong So put your trust in me. You could be in Gryffindor If folks on you depend Or maybe even Hufflepuff If you’re a really good friend. Don’t overlook Ravenclaw The house with so much sense And never rule out Slytherin If your cunning is immense. Hogwarts is a magic school And as you’ll surely learn If you attend your classes Much wisdom you will earn. If you’re looking for some fun You’ve come to the right place New friends you are going to meet Who’ll share in the things you face. Adventure awaits you every year And that will be revealed Just as long as you keep your head Great rewards you’ll surely yield. So welcome to our fair school Be sure and watch for danger It could come from anywhere Not merely from a stranger. 22 |
Well then, here's my entry, so enjoy: :albus2: Do tell me what you see, as you sit so proud and tall, looking down on just a hat, who can make you feel so small For I am not a witch, Nor being a wizard can I boast, Yet you all sit expectantly, at the start of every toast I split you into houses, but for me it is no chore, for inside of me there lies, the brains of our founding four In Gryffindor, you might belong, If you have nerves of steel, Or Slytherin, the sly soul, If indeed, no nerves you feel! Or else in mightly Ravenclaw, Where work is not a chore, Else be in sweet Hufflepuff, The gentlest of all four. No questions will you answer, No magic will you do, Just place me onto your head, and I'll decide for you No panicking is needed, For this is not a test, And I am merely here, To start you on your quest! 29 |
With this old hat to sort you. I'll read your mind and see your heart, And pick the house you're born to. Gryffindor will house brave acts, Where they wear red and gold. They'll save the day, and first react To help all those less bold. If you're prone to read and learn, Then a Ravenclaw you'll be. There you'll always have a turn, To outwit hats like me. Then Hufflepuff may be all right For all those pure and kind. That's the house where truth's in sight, Where loyal friends you'll find. Perhaps ambition and a mind Prepared to fight for dreams Will choose Slytherins as your kind - But there, nothing is as it seems. So which of our dear founders four Would have liked you best of all? Wear me once and I am sure I'll find the house where you'll stand tall! 29 (2070-2071) |
The Sorting Hat's New Song "At Hogwarts a long time ago, a problem was debated Where would all the students go? And then I was created! "I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat, no longer sleek and tall, you can keep no secrets from me, nothing, not at all! "For I can see within your head, where you oughta go, In Gryffindor, or Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff, you know! Or in Slytherin, is where you will make your friends, those Slytherins do anything, to acheive their ends! "So come on up, try me on! And I'll try not to bite you, but never, ever force me on, or I will surely smite you!" 12 |
Hello everyone I’m the Sorting Hat, And welcome to our school, I shall tell you about our founders, That once each sought to rule. Noble Helga Hufflepuff, How loyal was she, Not the bravest nor the boldest, But loved by many, you see. Sharp witted Rowena Ravenclaw, Intelligence she cherished, Best friends with the loyal Hufflepuff, But soon their friendship perished. Cunning Salazar Slytherin, Had not many good deeds to his name, Though he was quick and clever, He mostly cared about your ancestory and fame. Daring Godric Gryffindor, Was braver than any man, Bold and strong was he, And soon with the others formulated a plan. Four Houses were created, Many students to be Sorted, So therefore I was formulated, To make the Sorting more ordered So now here I am today, I’ve seen all that we can win, Now that’s all you’ve heard enough, Let the Sorting now begin. 13 |
I know I'm not that pretty, Though I'm very helpful too. In one house you will be, But what house is four you? You could be Hufflepuff, A good house all around. Full of fluff, One of the best that had been found. Or Gryffindor, Loyal and true. The Bravest of the four, Could this be the house for you? Could it be Ravenclaw, Smart and clever. From work the wont withdraw, One of the best ever. Or Slytherin, Cunning and sneaky. They could be your kin, The house that is cheeky. 4 |
Another batch of students here, Another task for me to do: To sort according to houses due. Little students, do not fear. I, the Sorting Hat, am here, To perform a sole task long given, To place the students in the shoes they'll live in. 'Twas long ago when the Founders Four, Decided to open Hogwarts' door, And teach young witches, wizards like you The wonders of magic that they also knew. It wasn't unknown to any of them, That soon their reign would come to an end. And so with their magic, they gave me the task. To sort by what is right, not by what you ask. Should you be of the brave, fearing nothing at all, Then the noble house of Gryffindor, Is surely your call. If your brain seeks challenges of the most difficult kind, Then off to Ravenclaw you go, To exercise your mind. The compassionate and kind of heart also hold reputation here, And Hufflepuff is the house for you, The unjust and unfair veer. Powerhungry and full of dreams are those that one house prides. The house of Slytherin, silver and green, Is where your loyalty lies. Another term will come and go, Where you all will be, only you can know. But one thing is certain about my choice, I have never been wrong, dear girls and boys. So live up to your houses true, Everything here relies on you, But stand united, never to fail, For even with four Houses, one Hogwarts prevails. 25 |
Since I have last come along. Now its time to put your listening ears on, While I sing my Sorting Hat Song. Now, I am not your ordinary hat, So you can see. I am still unable to use a beater bat, But I can tell you the square root of three! I was made many, many years ago, By a well known man. He sure had a golden glow, If there was a fight, Godric Gryffindor never ran! He was one of four, That made this school what it is today. So now it is time for the new faces to take the floor. For I don’t do this everyday. What house were you born to be in? Are you ambitious and cunning? Maybe you belong in Slytherin, Their pride sure is stunning. Or maybe you belong in Ravenclaw. This house is one of a kind, Their brains will surely put you in awe. Make sure to keep that in mind. There is always Hufflepuff, Don’t underestimate this house. Their loyalty and kindness you will come to love. They surely will never become a louse. Last but not least is Gryffindor, Where only the bravest dwell. Their daring nature will never be a bore, Isn’t that swell? Now the time has come to figure out, Where you truly belong. I don’t have a doubt, That I won’t be wrong. So place me on your head and we will begin, Don’t be afraid for I am the Sorting Hat. I can only grin, While I tell you where to sit at. 13 |
Here you are-my first long poem EVER! Hope you enjoy it! GOOD LUCK TO ME! Some time ago Hogwarts was new, And I was not so dirty, The noble founders of our school Sat down to mull their duty. Determined, they each said their thoughts, About their choice of student. The founders four each had their turn, And said what they deemed prudent. Said Godric Gryffindor, “The brave, the daring I shall teach. Those chivalrous and full of nerve Will be the ones I preach.” From Slytherin came this reply- “ The purebloods I shall take. Those worthy of our magic ways, With them, there’s no mistake.” Rowena’s answer came like this- “The witty and the clever – I’ll teach them everything I know, They’ll treasure it forever.” Helena Hufflepuff replied, “I’ll take the just and loyal, They ought to be hard workers, too Even if they are royal.” With these ideas in their heads, About who they deserved, Young magic children came to them, The Founders them then served. So after many, many years, The Founders were quite rusty. I was whipped off of Godric’s head, Because I had proved trusty. And now you try me on each year, And I assign your house. So perch me on your head at once, And do not be aroused. I’ll yell out loud where you shall go, For everyone to hear. Give me a round or two of claps- The Sorting is now here. 21 |
It is my day of play I come out to bat You know who I am Believe it or not, I am the sorting hat. If you a Ravenclaw, you are smart A Hufflepuff will be mellow A brave one, Gryffindor for sure Slytherin, you tend to bellow You should be at home with magic School work will get you there Hogwarts is divine Share your thoughts with your house, that will be fair There is fun here Hogwarts can be cool Danger can be found So don't be a fool 9 |
Welcome students, young and new to the ancient Hogwarts School. To those of you not yet aware, there are four houses here. Gryffindor, for those of nerve and daring; Ravenclaw, for those of wit and thinking; Hufflepuff, for those of loyalty and caring; And Slytherin, for those of ambition and cunning. Once, not too long back, the houses were all divided. But, I still retain the hope that they will once again be reunited. Do not fret and do not cry, you have nothing to fear. Soon, you shall join your house, who shall be your family here. However short this song has been, I implore you not to worry, For I shall Sort you well and good. Tine grows short, so hurry! 7 |
You may not think I’m neat and clean From all that your eyes can see, But search the world and should you find A wiser hat than me. I’ll find you a place in Gryffindor If you are brave and true The daring, chivalrous ones I find Will match perfectly with you! Or do you belong in Hufflepuff With the ones loyal and just? The faithful ones are always known Hufflepuffs at heart. But if you are wise and quick-witted And enjoy quite a challenge, Then I shouldn’t hesitate to say That Ravenclaws are your true match. Or are you one of the cunning folks Determined to achieve your ends? Then you’re better off in Slytherin Where you’ll find your real friends. So don’t you sneer at my weary looks, Look for the wit beneath For I’m the Hogwarts Sorting Hat That none other can eat! 12 |
{The Song} The dust on fair moors settles slow; But Hogwarts! Dream of victory! You, gloss of sky! You, still our glow! Born in the hands of magic strong, You live where realms of glitter pool, Hand-in-hand, thy pillars raised, The founders of our noble school. Brave Gryffindor, the valiant, He in whose house reign tall and bold, Bearers of the touch that marked, His will of steel, his heart of gold. Great Salazar, o Slytherin, hark! Who stood for what he felt was right, Ambitious; he, skilled with wand, Both light in dark, and light in light! Fair Rowena, that spark of love, Whom gods of wisdom rise to hail, The brightness! In whose house resides, Intelligence, that knows no fail. Kind Hufflepuff, my Helga sweet, Who knew the worth of truest toil, Kind, hard-working, loyal are, The seeds now rising from her soil. These founders four, these founders true, Best of friends; with magic skilled, Fashioned, with the noblest dreams, A school where they great love instilled. Their love enchants – a merry thing! A moonlit song, a shining star; Students of Hogwarts, come join hands, To spread it here, and spread it far. Enchant within, enchant without, Hogwarts – our sure amidst the doubt. [size=1]Whenever the song is posted [for the voting], could you please take care not to disturb the alignment? I mean, please don't keep the last two lines of the same alignment as the rest of the song. It helps emphasize select parts of the poem. ^_^ 24 |
I do not know if you're aware, Based on what you see, I'm the smarterst hat out there, None other hat can beat me, I can see past every wall, There is nothing I can't see, Hopes and dreams I see it all, And that is only me, If you just try me on, I'll tell you were you belong; You may be a Gryffindor, Their bravery at heart, Their nerve and courage and boldness, Set these ones apart; You may be a Hufflepuff, So patient and so true, Hufflepuffs are loyal, That might just be you; You might be a Ravenclaw, If you have a sharp mind, If you're very creative and very wise, You are among your kind; Last not least a Slytherin, Ambitious and wants to acheive, It'll take more than spell or two, Slytherins have some tricks up their sleve; To find out which one of the four you belong, I don't bite, So put me on, And I will tell you, I won't be wrong, And that is that is that, Do not fear- I'm the sorting hat! 6 |
Every year September 1st, I'm called to do my duty. To attend the HogwartsWelcome Feast And show you all my inner beauty. I know you think I'm worn and ugly And should be thrown away, But I hold the key to your future here Starting from today. I have no easy task before me For alone I must decide. By looking into your deepest thoughts I shall tell you which house to reside. There are four houses to choose from: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin Fantastic beasts of magic lore, Their characters do not fail. What Hufflepuffs value most Is hard work, loyalty, and determination. And Leopardblasts believe Great knowledge should be their inspiration. Three words that describe Slytherin, Are ambitious, sly, and cunning. They thought they should stop at nothing To get what they are craving. And finally there's Gryffindor, Courageous, noble and brave. They preferred that their students Stay chivalrous to the grave. Four houses great and mighty, All excelling in their own way. Gryffindor,Hufflepuff,Ravenclaw and Slytherin Would be proud if they were here today. So put me on upon your head, And let's get the sorting underway. 12 |
Sorting Hat Song Submission Oh, look and be astonished That a hat like I can speak! T'was not by chance I came alive, T'was for when the Founders were weak. Imagine cheery old Hufflepuff as she neared ninty three. How could she possibly choose her lot? The Founders had a plan you see! Brave Gryfindor took me off his head and they concocted a daring plot. They would put some brains into me to do what they ought. And so when the four had passed away, They left me to do this task: Of sorting the new ickle firsties By character, mind and class. Those who show courage and chivalry they'd best go to Gryffindor. As for those with minds sharp like whips To wize Ravenclaw. Hufflepuff will take you all if you're loyal, hardworking and just. Or if you're like ambitious Slytherin You know you'll do what you must. But whatever house you're destined for Listen to what I say, Whether through drought or flood Together we must stay! We fought off the ghastly MerKing by sheer will and determination, So band together like the Hogwarts Four For the coming examination. Fret not my little ones, You're test is yet to come Now slip me onto your head Come, don't look so glum! I am the Hogwarts Sorting Hat I was created to sort you and you So take a chance, put me on then you'll be sorted too! ~Lari 16 |
The Sorting Hat's Song 1 I am no ordinary thinking cap nor over extraordinary wizarding hat. I have a stitch for every itch you scratch at what I just might be. What charms be'rest this old hat's soul? What lengths did my maker go to create a hat indeed? I cannot delve into the tale your disappointment is quite worth the joy of this old, beaten veil. Gaze and gawk, gawp and glare, 10 peel your 1st year stare and stir from your bench. Sorting time has come again, the exciting part of growing up has surfaced. I'll place you, come, it is quite urgent. Have you been dreaming all the while of just what house is true? Well allow me to be the best of guiles and lead you to it too. 20Gryffindor is only for the brave - or perhaps naive, if you enjoy dauntless adventures then try me if you please. Hufflepuffs are true and rough - they'll work you to the bone, but they all stick together they'll become just like your own. If you desire Ravenclaw - your mind is set and through, 30well that's the type of mind set that will surely get you through. Slytherins keep to themselves or travel in type groups. They're truly like their founder in that they've already studied you. So take a bow and be your best, but you cannot hide your thoughts. I'll search and dive quite dastardly deep to the memories that should be wrought. 40Destiny has got a place for you amongst these whimsical boys and girls. Allow me to take a look 43at what Fate has to unfurl. |

okay, this is my first shot at a Sorting Hat song, and hope you guys like it :) also, good luck to all!! Now my job can start Sorting students left and right Telling their minds apart For that is where I can see Where you must truly lie Your thoughts, your hopes, your dreams, your fears, They all lay deep inside Where they will lead, I do not know Until you put me on your head Though do not be afraid, young ones Tis not a thing to dread Will you end up in Gryffindor? Courageous, brave and bold Your chivalry will leave you with Many stories to be told Or perhaps in humble Hufflepuff Where loyalty is best The place where all you follow Is what’s inside your chest Maybe Ravenclaw is your place Where your head will lead the way Armed with a knowledgeable mind Great magic you will portray And last is dear old Slytherin Where cunning folk reside Their fierce determination And strong will shall get them by So there you have it, once again Another year to start clear your mind and prepare To let me into your heart I promise you best judgement I swear I will not be wrong Now put me on and you will see Just where you belong… Kae... xox |
The Sorting Hat's Song Year by year, I sing a song To tell you where you ought be placed. This year, no different I've a story to tell Of how you come to be sorted. Miss Ravenclaw sought wisdom, In those she prepared to teach. Those that loved books and learning, were those she wanted to meet. Slytherin, a man of wit, sought children with cunning and skill. The purest if blood make it into his house for the ones he admire will. Gryffindor wanted bravery, chivalry and pride. His students make it all the way, And never stop besides. Miss Hufflepuff, the last of these, only wanted students, loyal and eager were those she taught. The ones that were never meager. And so, you see, I knew them well, and I'll know where to put you. Don't be afraid, of what's to come because of what's inside you. |
I am the hat you see right here, Talking though I have no ear. This year, you see, You will be sorted, Into the houses, Chosen by me. Don't be so scared, No, not of me, I am just a hat, You see. Rowena Ravenclaw wanted the smartest, The wittiest, the best. If all you want is learning, To Ravenclaw table you'll be turning. Salazar Slytherin, a witty man, Wanted the pure-blooded children. The ones he taught were full of skill, They were ones admiring. Godric Gryffindor, the chivalrous fellow, Wanted the daring, not the mellow! The ones who never stood off to the side, The ones full of pride. Helena Hufflepuff, she took the loyal, You can't be arrogant to get here. The lovely ones, unafraid of toil, The ones who are nice, and true, and dear. Now let me go atop your head, And choose for you instead. I won't bite I promise, yes, And don't be shy, sad, nonetheless. |
