It was a fine, sunny afternoon and the classroom windows were open to the let the fresh air in. It had finally warmed up a bit, which Piers was glad for because the castle was starting to feel stuffy and he had been longing to let some fresh air inside. Hopefully it would inspire the students as much as it did him.
Piers stood at the front of the class, leaning against his desk, arms crossed over his chest, waiting for the students to arrive.
The classroom was set up much like a normal classroom. On each desk sat two cups of water and nothing else. The desks were arranged in columns, like normal. The only thing different and strange and possibly unnerving were the buckets. Above each individual desk hovered a bucket about six feet above it. Were they full of water? You would just have to wait to find out.
OOC: Welcome to the next Charms lesson! Class will officially start in about 24 hours from this initial post.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Fiona entered the classroom, enjoying the fact that the room was full of fresh air and sunshine. "Good afternoon, Professor!" Fiona greeted as she made her way to a desk at the front and sat down, spotting the two cups of water but refusing to let any part of her touch them. She looked up and saw the bucket hovering above her head. Fiona was curious about what, if anything, was in the bucket but she merely looked towards the front of the classroom.

Naya arrived at the Charms classroom and was surprised to see that it was nearly empty. She looked down at her watch. She didn’t think she was that early. “Hello Professor, she said on the way to her seat. She gave a nod to her classmate (Fiona), as she walked by.
Naya walked slowly as she noticed cups on the desks. Hmmm. She wondered what that was for. As she sat down, she saw the buckets that were floating above the desks. That did not make her feel particularly comfortable. She had the feeling that they were full of something that she did not want falling on her head. Naya got her things out of her book bag and couldn’t help looking up at the bucket every few seconds. This was going to be interesting.

Claudine had mainly tried to avoid Trent and Fuller-Thompson after the events of the Forest. It was only natural that this was sometimes difficult, especially when it came to classes. She shuffled into Charms and immediately noted her Head of House leaning against her desk. “Hi, Professor,’’ she said meekly, her stupid actions rushing back. The second year was highly ashamed of herself. Her gaze? It was focused on the wall behind Fuller-Thomson.
Then she quickly turned to head for the back of the class, barely noticing the hovering buckets and the cups of water. Whatever those were for, she’d find out later.

For the moment, Carys was enjoying the fresh air, even as she’d buckled down on all the exam studies that had inevitably slowed down during the baby assignment. In an odd way, she even felt grateful for whatever chaos Hogwarts was still tossing their way, knowing it couldn’t get much worse than whatever they’d already dealt with. The founders hadn’t been half as nerve-wracking as the mist had been, which was weird but almost welcome. As had been lunch, before she’d headed up to Charms.
“Good afternoon, Professor,” she said with a smile, heading off toward a seat near one of the windows. The bucket hovering above the seat had been noticed, but, once again, it wasn’t anything she’d questioned. Even water was something she could handle. Instead, she merely took out some of her notes to study for exams while she waited for the lesson to begin.

Chloe for one was glad that the spring air was starting to show up more often and that the cold was starting to slowly leave. She was so ready for summer, even though she had months to wait. The school year was rough and it didn't seem to be getting any easier for the sixth year.
With these thoughts, she headed into class. Seeing the professor she smiled, "Hello professor" and turned to find an open seat. Looking around she decided on one just in the middle. This could be a good spot to see what was going on, but not be fully up front.

You know what? Flynn didn't mind that he wasn't great with charms. If he was honest, the thirteen year old didn't have any great undying passion to prove otherwise. As long as he could do basic things like tie his shoelaces, pack his trunk, or make dishes wash themselves, he was content. His passion and energy was reserved for dance specifically and the performing arts in general. Still, it didn't mean he went to class not prepared to try. He DID try, and he was usually cheerful about it, but he had no mad wand skillz and that was fine by him.
"Hi professor!" He greeted the old man in front of him and then took note of the buckets. Well, if he was in for a bracing shower for getting things wrong, at least his mum had insisted all his school robes had various charms on them to help keep them clean and dry! He found a seat in front of Claudine and began to get his things ready.

She'd find out soon enough.
And the first student had arrived. Piers nodded at Fiona in greeting when she entered the room. "Good afternoon to you," he replied pleasantly as she sat down and noted the set up. She was curious, he could tell. Curious was good.

This one looked curious about the buckets, but also a bit more nervous. "Afternoon," he replied simply as Naya took her seat in the classroom.

Ah. And there was Claudine. Half of the party that decided to take an adventure into the FORBIDDEN Forest, which resulted in a rescue from acromantulas, which resulted in two of his dogs being taken as acromantula supper.
He had not forgiven her.
Piers watched her enter the room and responded by merely nodding at her before adjusting his attention to the next student.

Once the classroom filled up with students and it was time to get the lesson started, Piers pushed himself off from the desk he was leaning against. "Alright, everyone. Let's start with a discussion." Something he always liked to do to get everybody's brains working.
"Let's talk about water." A very simple subject. "Water is everywhere, obviously. We need it to live, plants need it to live, everything needs it to live. But sometimes... water can be annoying. Like, when it's dumping ran outside and you have to take out the trash. Now, muggles have many ways to try and solve this issue and we have our own. Let's go over some of those options. Let's start a list. I want you all to list off one way to specifically avoid getting wet when it rains outside, magic or mundane." And with that, he grabbed his piece of chalk and stood by the chalkboard, ready for answers.
OOC: The lesson has officially started! We're starting with a pretty easy question. Class will move on in about 24 hours.

Possibly unnerving? Try VERY. The buckets of water hovering over head were VERY unnerving. Nina suspected that they were filled to the brim with water, if not something slimy and gross. What if they were filled with beans??? Professor Fuller-Thompson had some sort of obsession with those, didn't he? Ew. Ew. Ew. She really wouldn't put it past him to filled buckets with some strange liquid and toy with the possibility of having them dumped all over his students.
It was definitely something he would do. He was a sadistic sort of man. Enjoying the struggle of his students, Nina was sure of it.
She was so unnerved by this bucket situation, in fact, that she couldn't pay attention to whatever Professor Fuller-Thompson was sharing. Her eyes kept moving from the front of the room back up to the bucket. She was n e r v o u s.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Fiona nodded back at Naya as the Gryffindor walked by. When Professor Fuller-Thompson asked the class the question, Fiona thought for a few seconds before raising her hand. "There is the Impervius Charm, I believe."

Bernie wasn't going to talk this class. She wasn't going to sit by Claudine, she wasn't going to befriend a House Elf if one popped up, she wasn't going to make any fruit explode, and if she were drenched by one of the buckets over her head, she most certainly wasn't going to break down in tears like she'd done the last time she'd seen Professor Fuller-Thompson.
Every time she looked at him, she felt a surge of pain and regret for the doggos the Charms professor had lost in the Forest. She felt SO MUCH regret and sorrow, and didn't know how to even begin to express it. But she felt SO BADLY about it that she had almost considered skipping this class, except then she'd be stuck in her dorm ALL DAY and what would be the point of even continuing to enroll here at Hogwarts??? She might as well at least TRY to learn from her mistakes, right?
So Bernie sat sadly in the back of the classroom, under her bucket which she felt she would deserve a dumping from, and tried to resist the urge to answer the professor's question. It was just such an easy question, though. Couldn't she just offer one small, meek little answer?
"Umbrellas," the second year whispered, before she realized she had spoken. Whups. There went that plan. "Muggles use umbrellas when it rains."

Isla had just taken a seat and was about to greet the professor, when the lesson suddenly got underway. She spared a second-long glance at the bucket above her, before looking toward the professor. Apparently, it was time to launch into a discussion.
Water. Oh, great. She looked up at the bucket a second time. There was water in that bucket, wasn't it? She gave a quiet sigh then raised her hand. "Rain coats are really good to wear when it's raining," she said. Somebody else had said the Impervius Charm, and she guessed that might be what they were learning today. She wanted to chime in with something different, though, and a rain coat was the first thing that came to mind.
She squirmed in her seat just a little. She could only imagine what the rest of this lesson was about. That bucket was going to release a ton of water on her, wasn't it? And she was going to have to find a way to protect herself using whatever charm they were going over today.

Eiji had had instant regret the moment he had stepped into the room. Not so much for his sake - he didn't really care about getting wet considering how he collected ingredients from the lake and he knew how to take certain precautions - but he was not ready for certain reactions from others. One of which he suspected would be Nina, given how she was acting like a kneazle in a room full of rocking chairs.
As usual, Eiji had entered the classroom with a curt nod before finding himself a seat and had every intention of keeping quiet during the whole question and answer portion. Naturally, the Impervius Charm came to mind instantly at the professor's question. It was what he tended to use on his shoes and trousers when he went wading in the lake but it was hardly his first thought when it came to rain. That was umbrellas which he thought he heard some one squeak in response but their voice was entirely too quiet for him to hear it. In either case, there was a charm for that - creating a magical umbrella and he assumed it was somewhat related to Protego given the light it gave off and that it protected against something specific.
So, were the sixth year inclined to speak up, that would have been his response.

He was still angry with her, Claudine didn’t need anyone to tell her that. Usually, she wouldn’t care a bit but the guilt about the fate of some of Fuller-Thompson’s dogs weighed heavily on her shoulders. She slumped unhappily in her seat as though trying to hide from him (essentially, this is what she aimed to do). What hurt most is that Bernie didn’t sit by her but Claudine mentally kicked herself almost immediately after this realisation. This was one reason why she hated getting close to anyone: they hurt you eventually.
Claudine tried to remain hidden even though her attention was focused on her Head of House’s voice. There were a few answers that occurred to her but would she speak up? No.
Half listening to Professor Fuller-Thompson, Józef's eyes kept flicking to the buckets hanging ominously over each of the students heads. He was certain (as certain as one could ever be in a Hogwarts lesson) that they were full of water, and along with that certainty came an overwhelming desire to upend them all somehow. Maybe jumping onto desks, or wacking them with something.
He didn't even really think about magic. Nor did he think about magic when the Professor asked his question. The only two answers he had were umbrellas and rain coats, and they'd already been suggested.
There was also the act of not being a wuss and just embracing the rain, but Jó felt that that was not what the Professor was looking for, and so he keep quiet.

Charlie was not sure she was going to be a fan of this class. Water on the desks, water above her head. Did their Professor know how long it took to take this mass of hair? She wondered how many points she would lose if she sat off to the side of the chair. But before she could ask he started the lesson... great now she’s have to risk going to her next class with a wild lions mane of hair. 100% not a fan and totally not okay with this pure after thought by a mostly nice professor.
Hearing the question about rain she chuckled, “at sporting events muggles stand in ponchos” she refused to be in the rain and would absolutely never be caught in a trash bag with holes for her arms and head. No ma’am not happening.

Flynn wasn't sure he had ever really found water annoying and he had to think about that for a few moments. Getting caught in the rain could be fun, and he found if you were kind of just accepting that you would get wet it meant you could stop thinking about being wet and just carry on with your day, especially if your mum imperviused your clothes to begin with and would dry you off with magic after. But um. You know. The first thought he had for an answer was probably the most obvious. Flynn put his hand up.
"Stay inside until it stops." he wasn't being funny either! That's why houses were invented. And castles, he supposed. Shelter! And rain WOULD stop eventually.

When class officially started and the professor started talking about water, Naya couldn’t help but glance up at the bucket above her head. It reminded her of those huge buckets they had at muggle water parks............the one’s that periodically dumped an equally huge amount of water on people’s heads. The professor wouldn’t do that, would he? She surely hoped not.
Turning attention to the question that he posed, Naya listened to the responses that were given. Finally, she raised her hand to add to the conversation. “Like my classmates said, raincoats and hats are good for keeping you dry. I also think it’s important to keep you feet dry and you would need rain boots for that.” Having wet feet, especially when it was cold, was no fun at all.

But Cecelia liked everything about water! She LIKED unexpected rain showers, 'specially in the summer time. She LIKED the way the water puddled up and created the perfect little pools for jumping in. She even liked dancing in the rain, though ONE time she got sick 'cause she stayed outside in a storm too long. She supposed she COULD think of ways to avoid getting wet, though. There were plenty.
"There are spells that could freeze water, so maybe there's one that could turn the rain to snow? You'd still be pretty cold, but you wouldn't get as wet as you would in a rainstorm, at least not if you were just outside for a little while."

She sat with her parchment open ready to take notes when the professor started to talk about water. She found it interesting to hear that some might think the water wasn't a benefit but a problem. She figured she would lean more to the problem when it came to quidditch, but knowing it was helping all the plants and creatures made it less bad in her mind.
"There is an umbrella charm." She had seen her mother use it a few times, though having actual umbrellas were fun too, they had many designs and colors. She enjoyed seeing them open, especially the ones that closed in reverse.

”A hat!” he repeated as he scribbled it onto the board. ”Though that will only keep your head dry and not for very long.”

But um. You know. The first thought he had for an answer was probably the most obvious. Flynn put his hand up.
"Stay inside until it stops." he wasn't being funny either! That's why houses were invented. And castles, he supposed. Shelter! And rain WOULD stop eventually.
Pies turned around at that answer and looked at Flynn. ”Well. That is an option.” It sort of went around his question, so he didn’t write it down on the board, but he wasn’t wrong.

Piers adjusted his attention to Naya when she offered her answer. ”Ah, excellent point. Rain boots are quite helpful.” And with that, he turned to the board and added “rain boots” to the list.

"There are spells that could freeze water, so maybe there's one that could turn the rain to snow? You'd still be pretty cold, but you wouldn't get as wet as you would in a rainstorm, at least not if you were just outside for a little while."
When Cecelia offered her answer, Piers considered it and nodded. ”That is a good idea, though you would have to be careful not to turn it into ice as that might be a bit... dangerous.” Especially if somebody were to turn one of these water buckets into ice. Yikes.

"There is an umbrella charm." She had seen her mother use it a few times, though having actual umbrellas were fun too, they had many designs and colors. She enjoyed seeing them open, especially the ones that closed in reverse.
”Umbrella charm,” Piers repeated, turning to the board to write it down. ”Extremely useful.”
Once Piers felt the list was sufficient enough, he dropped the chalk back onto the tray and turned back toward the class, dusting his hands off. ”Alright, all of those answers were very good. Some are certainly more useful in a rainstorm than others, but they’re all good for certain occasions. Today we will be working with the water repelling charm.”
Piers grabbed his wand and waved it at the board. The list disappeared and in its place appeared the incantation for the charm, as well as the wand movement.

”This all should be one you’ve heard of, if not already tried. Today, we are going to master it. We’ll start by practicing. You all have two cups of water and a glove on your desk. You’ll put on the glove and practice the incantation by tapping the glove. After each time you practice, dump a bit of water on your hand to see if you’ve done it. Keep trying until you do. We’ll worry about the buckets later.” Meaning... they should probably worry about the buckets.
”Alright everyone, get to it. We’ll do this for ten minutes or so.”
OOC: time for the mini activity! Sorry for the delay! The students will have about 2-3 days to practice the charm.

Fiona inwardly beamed when she discovered that she had indeed offered the right suggestion. Fiona hadn't performed the charm personally but she had seen her parents perform it so she felt confident in being able to master the charm.
Donning the glove on her left hand, Fiona held her wand in her right hand and tapped the glove as she said, "Impervious!" She then placed her wand on her desk and picked up one of the cups of water. She poured a bit of water onto part of the glove and could feel the liquid saturating where she had poured.
Sighing to herself, she placed the cup back down on the desk and picked up her wand. Concentrating immensely, Fiona tapped a wider area of her glove and in a slightly louder and clearer voice said, "Impervious!" The Slytherin second-year then swapped her wand for the cup and once again poured water onto her glove. To her delight, it had worked.

Claudine’s silence had the desired effect: she was ignored by Fuller-Thompson. Perhaps if she kept this up, he would forget her entire existence. This was completely fine with her. Instead of dwelling further on anything, she made her notes. Somewhere while doing that, she slid lower into her seat so that it was almost only her forehead showing.
It came as no surprise to her that they were focusing on that particular Water Repelling Charm. Claudine didn’t really see the use of the glove (couldn’t they use the Charm on their hands?). On a regular day, she would have asked Fuller-Thompson but in the light of recent events…
“Impervious.’’ Her gloved left hand was tapped. Some water from the cup was poured. The glove remained dry as ever. The spell was one she had done before so this activity was easy for her. But couldn’t they have used the Water Charm instead of the cups?

The Impervius Charm had been the obvious answer, even though most of the students, Isla included, had tried to chime in with a little something different. She glanced up at the board where the incantation and wand movement had been jotted down. None of this made her feel any better about the bucket suspended above her head. Not yet, at least.
She reached for the glove on her desk and put it on her left hand. The two cups of water seemed a lot safer than the bucket, but who knows--maybe the bucket would be loads of fun! It might be nice to have water dumped on their heads. If the water wasn't ice cold, that is!
The first year pointed her wand toward the glove. "Impervious!" she said. She tapped the glove just as the incantation left her lips. Time to see if it had worked! She put down her wand and grabbed a cup of water instead. Being as careful as she could, she released a few droplets of water onto the glove. Nothing had happened, but she kind of thought it might be because she had only used a few droplets instead of a slightly larger amount. She gently poured a little extra water on the glove, and it was then that she realized she could feel a bit of it trickling through. Hmm...
