Winter is coming to an end and the early signs of Spring have just started to show. You may notice the little green buds starting to form on the trees, the wet dew on the grass instead of frost, and of course your Charms professor turning into a ghost.
Well, that had nothing to do with Spring, but it was a new development. If you somehow managed to miss the great commotion that occured in the courtyard just recently, you may not know, but your Charms professor had become an untimely snack to the pink critters roaming about the castle. But not to worry! She’s still here in spirit!
Literally.
Not letting her lesson plans go to waste, Dolly had scheduled her lesson as normal and had shown up to the classroom at the designated time. There was no excuse to miss class! She had a little difficulty setting up for class, however, since she was now unable to... touch anything.
Oh well. She would manage.
The Charms Classroom door is wide open and Dolly Dopple, the Charms ghost is hovering in front of the room, hands clasped, her normal smile on her transparent face. As usual, her cat, Laura, is perched on the edge of the desk, completely still. Not even blinking. Still, quite possibly dead. Or was it now a ghost too?
OOC: Welcome to Charms! Keep in mind that it is now late February. This class occurs a few days after the meeting in the courtyard, so Dolly is now a ghost. Class has not started yet! Go ahead and post your student arriving to class. The class will move on in about 24 hours, approximately 8 PM GMT-7.

This... was... .weird!
Did anyone else think it was weird? She knew ghost taught classes in the castle before, but she had never experienced that. At least not until this very moment and Chloe wasn't fully sure how she felt about it. Would the ghost or well professor float through them while she was talking? Would she be able to hear better now that she was a ghost?
Finally walking fully into the room Chloe looked around and stopping in front of the cat, "Ma'am, now that you are a ghost, who is going to take care of your cat?" It was a real cat wasn't it or had it died a while again and the professor had it stuffed? Maybe if it was dead the ghost form could come out and join her so they could be together in their afterlife.
Looking at the cat a little longer Chloe went to find her seat and get ready for the lesson.

Chloe was quite concerned about the Charms professor, especially in light of her recent lack of living... ness. And her apparent inability to recognize that lack. So she showed up to class a little early and made sure to claim a seat near the front.
"Good day, Professor. Do you think I might... right on the board for you today? I'm very corporeal at the moment." And hairy. Don't forget hairy.

Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope.
Nettie was quite positive that she would not be able to take this lesson seriously, or even make it through the whole thing without freaking out.
Dopple was a GHOST. Not only that, she'd been eaten by the little pink creatures that Nettie had adored. They'd turned out to be evil, murderous monsters, and the whole thing just irked her to no end.
AND HER HAIR WAS STILL GROWING.
Things were not going well for Nettie, and even though she tried to smile at the ghost of Dopple as she walked in...nope. Couldn't do it. She could barely look at her. No no no no no no.
She was going to have a panic attack. She was gonna lose it. LOSE. IT.

The most recent events at the castle had put Stasya just a bit on edge. Especially the ghostly presence of their Charms professor, mostly because it was now rather well known that a creature was to blame. It bothered her more than she’d thought, even if she still disagreed with the drastic measures Professor O’Hara had suggested back in the courtyard. She was struggling to give the creature that could have wrought this much havoc the benefit of the doubt, and the fact it was pink was even worse. Either way, the last thing she had expected was to find that Charms lessons hadn’t been canceled for the rest of term, unless the headmaster had brought in a substitute. Some subjects seemed to be a lot easier for a ghost to teach, and she was well aware of the history of the school. Most ghost professors had taught things like History of Magic. Subjects that didn’t necessarily require physical demonstrations, which she thought would be hard for a ghost.
She was pretty sure Professor Dopple wasn’t like Peeves, anyhow. Which put her back to the idea that maybe there’d be a new professor at the front of the classroom, proven wrong as soon as she’d stepped through the doors only to find the familiar but translucent figure of their former Charms professor still standing there, or floating. The mechanics still confused her a little. “Hello Professor Dopple. Will you need help demonstrating any Charms during the lesson?” She was fully prepared to help if necessary. She’d gotten fairly passable at the subject under the teaching of Professor Marchand, at least.

Derf had spent aaaaaall morning SHAVING. Only his efforts had been in vain as somehow between the wee hours after his run where he had shaved his entire face, arms, armpits ... everywhere and anywhere that was sprouting thick tufts of fur (yes, his skin was as smooth as a kappa's bald spot now) and stepped into the classroom, well, it all had returned to the way it had been. Once again making it look as though the Head Boy had attempted to transfigure himself into a cat or a lion and failed miserably. Not to mention the peculiar way in which he was not just holding his textbook as he entered...but GNAWING on the corner of it.
He, well, he felt some sort of way about Professor Dopple being a ghost...but mum had told him about similar instance happening with an Astronomy professor who had been eaten by a plant. Sooooo...historically speaking, this sort of thing DID happen. Also, Derf still felt bad for the creatures who must be pretty scared and stressed with everything. At least, well, at least the Charms professor seemed content enough?
"Good day, professor," he smiled warmly at the woman, pleased that she was...well...still capable of teaching and helping him with advanced studies and all. "Like Chloe and Stasya also offered...if there is anything you need help with I reckon you can also ask me." She knew he was pretty capable and stuff.
And then he moved to take a seat next to Chloe Kettleburn, partner in...things, swiping some of his obscenely long blonde hair out of his face. "....reckon you can braid this for me a bit so it is out of the way?"

Hanna was in two minds about this class. She adored Professor Dopple, but now she was a ghost. And she was hanging around. Hanna kind of hoped her only reason on remaining here, as a Ghost, was to finish the year. Really, the young Ravenclaw wanted Professor Dopple to pass into the other life, whatever that was, and be at peace. With... her family? Friends? Other people she had once loved and lost?
Entering the classroom, even though she had seen Professor Dopple in her ghost form - it was still startling. "Hello Professor Dopple," Hanna said, trying to plaster a happy smile on her face.

She then sat down at a desk.

Patrick had walked in hearing everyone already ready to help Dopple. He figured she had enough and wouldn’t need him so he sat silently. Taking stock of those in there. Wow people just loved Dopple even if she made them sweat death earlier in the term.
It was like their memories had been erased by her death. No thanks Patrick was glad he may not sweat to death. Taking his seat and looking around he got his notebook ready and minded his own business.

Tina didn't want to come to charms class today, but this time it wasn't out of loyalty to M. Marchand or frustration with Professor Dopple's teaching methods. The woman's ghostly form was a bad reminder for her - and not just a reminder of what the fluffy pink monsters running amok in the school could do! She was a bad reminder of Tina's unkindness. She had been awful to Professor Dopple while she was alive… not so much to her face. She wasn't dumb enough to outright insult a professor, but she'd been mean in other ways… constantly snarking to herself and comparing Dopple to M. Marchand, showing off her charms talents at every opportunity to show what she'd learned from a “real” charms expert, not to mention the purple butterfly she wore in some form to every charms class as an act of protest. She still had the purple butterfly, this time worn as a hair clip, but the meaning behind it had changed. And it wasn't alone. Today there was a white butterfly in her hair with the purple one.
Tina was going to make an effort to be kinder to Professor Dopple. She managed a small smile for the ghostly professor - not much of one, but it was more of a smile than she'd given the woman all term. “Hello, Professor Dopple,” she greeted politely, sparing only a passing glance. It made her too sad to look at the professor for long! The thought crossed Tina's mind to offer help, but seeing as a lot of her classmates had already done that, she wondered if it was necessary. She supposed it couldn't hurt. “If… uh, you need help with anything, let me know,” she added.
Without another word, she took her usual seat at the back of the room and waited for the lesson to begin. Her dart eyes darted around the room, searching for something to distract her from her feelings, and landed on the obviously dead cat on the desk. That cat just gave her an idea! But it would have to wait for now... she had a charms lesson to get through first.

Indigo had been quite interested when he found out that Charms lessons were still being held. He thought that might not have been the case considering... Well, considering their Charms professor was not less than alive. But he supposed that just because she was a ghost now didn't mean that she couldn't still teach. And she seemed to be handling the whole dying thing pretty well.
"Hello professor," he said as he entered the classroom. Instead of moving to his seat, he paused by the door for a second. He was going to ask if being a ghost felt different than being alive. He thought she might be able to answer it pretty accurately considering it had happened to recently. But then he decided against it and moved silently to take a seat.

Unfortunately, the death of the charms professor hadn’t deterred Dopple from holding classes. Cordelia had secretly been hoping charms would be cancelled for the rest of the term. Oh well, there were worse things that could happen, like... Well she’d already seen the worst of it. Surprisingly enough, Cordelia was still rather emotionally numb on the subject of the Professor’s death. Cordelia stared at the cat or kneazle or whatever it was as she walked in. It was almost certainly dead now that Dopple could no longer feed it. Experimentally, Cordelia reached out and poked the cat to see if it would move or otherwise show any sign of life. ”Hello, Professor. How’s the afterlife treating you?” Could cats become ghosts too? Because Cordelia was half expecting to see a translucent copy of the cat rise from its body and join Dopple. Hopefully the professor wouldn’t be able to turn up the heat in here today considering her, er, condition.

Having a ghost for a professor in your favorite of all subjects was...strange. There were limitations now, for one, and even as she heard the others volunteering to help where they could, Vita knew they weren't as skilled as Dopple was. Or well, she assumed. The woman was old and a bit lacking in the observational skills department, but surely she wouldn't have been hired if she wasn't good at her craft..
Hello Professor. Happy to see you didn't let anything stop you from holding class. That's the spiri-" ...The brunette went pink, realizing what she'd said. Was that okay to say when speaking with a ghost??? She decided to just make a quick exit in case it was rude and took up a spot by Indigo.

When the first students arrived in class, Dolly was as chipper as ever. She waved her wrinkly hand at the first student, but she could tell that she was a little put off. But she was surprised to find that her concerns were about the kneazle! How nice of her! ”Oh, she’s a very good mouser,” Dolly replied with an affectionate look towards Lisa, the kneazle. ”She’ll be just fine. She always finds enough to eat.” It was VERY nice of her to consider her.

Dolly had come to the realization and acceptance that she was in fact DEAD. But really, it hadn’t proved to be much too different than being alive, so not much had changed!
When the head girl arrived, Dolly gave her a bright smile. ”Oh, how very considerate of you! Yes, would you please?” The only downside about being dead was that you couldn’t touch anything anymore! It was more strange than inconvenient, though.

That’s.
The.
Spirit.
”Oh!” Dolly exclaimed, covering her mouth for a moment.
And then she burst into a fit of giggles. ”That’s the spirit! OOOOHHOOHOHO! How CLEVER!” Really! Quite hilarious! How PUNNY.
After recovering from her fit of giggles, Dolly clapped her hands together... and then realized that they no longer made noise... Oh, dear. How strange. Just another thing to get used to!
”HE-HEM. Hello, class!” She called out loud(ish) and clear. ”Thank you all for coming to class today! I see a few of our friends are missing... I do hope it wasn’t those creatures.” Perhaps she should have kept that thought to herself. Err, anyway...
”I must say, it is wonderful to see you all! I see some of you are sporting a new fashion trend, eh? The fur! Oh, it’s so FETCH, isn’t it?!” Young people and their strange fashion trends! It was so fascinating to see. At first she thought maybe just the Head Boy and Girl had just done it to be silly, but no, there were quite a few students sporting full coats of fur. How fun!
Dolly clapped her hands together again (force of habit) and floated a little closer to her students. ”Alright, I won’t tell you what we’ll be learning today just yet, but I want to start with a question to get your brains churning. But don’t worry! It’s not too hard!”
She then remembered that the head girl had offered to write things on the board for her. ”Oh! Miss Kettlebark, could you write this question on the board please? Tell me, what is something that you wish you could change about your physical appearance? Got a big nose? Some bushy eyebrows? A little mole on your chin? Do tell!” She was curious to know.
OOC: Class has officially begun! As you can see, Dolly is dead, but isn't really bothered by it. Go ahead and have your character answer the question above! Class will move on in about 30 hours so I can get back onto my original time schedule. That'll be about 7pm (GMT-7) on Friday the 1st.

Fur? Nettie did not have FUR. She had hair - albeit lots of hair, much more than normal. Was what what she was referring to. She'd noticed that a lot of the other kids seemed a little...hairier than usual. She'd just thought at first that puberty had hit everyone SUPER hard. Her brain was churning now, though - was it actually FUR? And did it have something to do with her Rapunzel-like locks?
So lost in thought, she almost forgot to answer the professor's question. She raised her hand. "Well, right now my hair is too thick and really hard to control. I think besides that...I'd like to be taller?" she suggested. In truth Nettie didn't have many insecurities. She was awesome. Her height was actually one of her favorite qualities about herself - she was small and cute. Pocket sized!

.......... Um.
Listen, Dopple getting killed was like really tragic in the moment, right? But it was supposed to mean that Charms was canceled for the rest of the term. So, uh, not to be inconsiderate or anything. BUT WHY WERE THEY STILL HERE?????????? Leave it to Hogwarts to keep the show going. Honestly. What was the point of having a dead Professor if it didn't even get you out of class? Would this school really stop at nothing?
Also, what the hell was a FETCH? And why was Dopple trying to make it happen? IT WASN'T GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!!
And uh, the fur predicament? Zoryn literally didn't care. Soz. Because it looked like that wasn't enough of an excuse to get out of class either. SAD!
"I'd like to be taller" did she have a spell for that? Because it would make things MUCH easier in the Faith Chosen department. Their mismatch of heights made certain activities far too difficult.

Well, that was a relief.
Vita smiled a bit sheepishly when the old woman burst into laughter. She'd never been one to make jokes, but she was happy to pretend she was trying to be funny all along if it pleased Dopple. Better than the alternative. Imagine she'd said that to Moaning Myrtle? ...Yikes.
The fur being a fashion statement was a bit of a stretch and honestly, now that she'd slipped once, the sixteen year old could not stop thinking of words without associating them with ghosts. For example, she could picture Dopple asking the head girl if she'd found her coat at a boo-tique and it made her want to cringe.
How could she be sensitive to the professor's....condition when all she could do was fixate on it?
The struggle was real.
Thinking REALLY hard before speaking out loud, she finally offered, "I always wanted blue eyes. I think they're quite b-beautiful." Not bootiful. Never that.

Indigo smiled at Vita when she sat by him. He was going to ask her how her day was going so far but she had entered just before the start of class and Dopple was talking now, so Indigo stayed quiet and tried to listen to what she was saying. To be honest, his mind was still preoccupied with ghost-related thoughts. When she was still alive she'd been a bit... unobservant, and he was pretty sure that was mostly related to her poor eyesight and hearing that came with being extremely old. But since she was a ghost now did that mean she was able to see and hear much better?
Indigo tuned back in to catch the end of her question. What would he change about his appearance? "I'd like a tattoo." Did that count?

Chloe smiled hugely at Derf when he sat next to her, although she jumped to her feet when the professor asked for help. She could write the question on the board, sure. With her fur swaying, Chloe carefully wrote out Dopple's words before returning to her seat.
"It's Kettleburn, ma'am. And aside from my hairy little problem, I wish my face wasn't so round." Not a problem at the moment, since it was covered in fur.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy thought about what she would like to change about her appearance and then raised her hand. "I wish I didn't have a huge scar on my leg," she replied pointing at her left leg. She had been happy with her appearance until the incident.
So....this was going to take some time to get used to.
Not just for him it seemed, seeing as Professor Dopple, too, wasn't QUITE used to her lack of...aliveness. And solidity. But she didn't seem all that bothered by it either. Which was partly why the professor's next question came as quite the surprise to Cameron. Something they wanted to change about their physical appearance? He frowned.
Was Dopple's answer to that "be less...dead"?
"I beg your pardon, professor, but isn't that a rather superficial question?" Did they really need another reason to think about what they DIDN'T like about their appearance?

His ears reddened just a little at that smile of Chloe's, though he was a bit disappointed when she did not have the time to braid his hair away from his face because...well...he need it, you know? So instead his attention moved back to Professor Dopple, also ready to jump to it at a moment's notice when she needed something - likely a demonstration in modification of some sort, seeing as the topic of the day seemed to be heading.
Though...was this topic REALLY appropriate? Everyone in this school was already so insecure about one thing or another and, well, he was just going to stop overthinking.
"Sometimes I wish I had gotten some of my tattoos done with animated ink," he offered up. Otherwise...he had finally come to be at peace about himself, so highlighting something he was not too keen on was a big no thank you. "Reckon it would be pretty neat to see that, you know?" Like his sun tattoo on his shoulder.

It was nice that Professor Dopple was still her perfectly happy self. That hadn't changed, at least, and Hanna found herself forgetting about the fact that she was a ghost. She was still... well... Dopple.
Oh, too soon Professor. Even though it was her that had perished.
She tried not to giggle as Chloe was referred to as Kettlebark, which was easy enough. Hanna watched the question go up on the board by Chloe's very solid hand, and pondered it. She raised her hand, after listening to some of the other things people didn't like about their physical appearance. "I wish my toes were slightly longer," she said. "They don't look as good as my dance teacher's when I point them." That was something she was a bit self conscious about. Her inability to make her feet look very long when she pointed them.

Tina kept her eyes on the motionless cat on the desk, memorizing its features… the shape of its head, its ears, its color and markings. She knew she probably looked pretty weird studying a dead cat so intently, but she didn't care. There was a reason behind it that would reveal itself eventually. She was so absorbed in the cat that she almost forgot this was charms class, and she jumped slightly at the sound of the professor's voice.
Blink, blink. Tina wasn't sure whether to be amused or appalled when Professor Dopple referred to some of her classmates’ fur as a new fashion trend. That seemed too out of touch, even for Dopple! Before she could judge too much, she reminded herself that the woman had recently died and was probably still traumatized. She was just going to chalk that up to shock.
Tina considered the professor's question for a minute… something she didn't like about her appearance? Oh, wow! Where should she start? Well, for one thing, she wished her eyes weren't quite so dark, and she would've liked to have smaller hands and feet. But if she had to pick just one thing that she didn't like, it would have to be her long, scrawny arms and legs! “I wish my arms and legs were a bit shorter,” she said after raising her hand. “They look too big for my body, and it makes it difficult to find clothes that fit properly.” Especially shirts and trousers. She always had to have them charmed to be longer in the arms and legs.It was annoying!

Ah yes, the first student. Dolly pointed at the young, furry girl. Apparently her fur was too hard to control. That was too bad. It really did look FETCH.
”Ah, yes height! I wish I were a bit taller too!” Although now that she was a ghost, she could float as high as she wanted to!

Oh, and another one that wanted to be taller too! Dolly nodded and then paused, recognizing the girl from that TRAGIC visit in her office when she discovered that she was DYING. ”Oh, my dear. How are you feeling? You look well!” She looked very good for a dying girl!

Never that.
Dolly's eyes moved to the next girl the one who had (probably accidentally) made the joke about being in the right spirit. ”Awww, yes, blue eyes are lovely, aren't they?!”

Then her eyes moved to the boy right next to the girl who had just spoken up (she should really learn their names someday). A tattoo?? How interesting. ”Oh, I see! Tattoos are quite fun. I’ve had quite a few removed in my time!” She had lived a long time, you know. That was a long time to make mistakes.

”Miss Cattleburn, yes, that’s what I said.” Wasn’t that what she had said? She was very grateful for the help of her to write things down on the board for her, though. ”A round face! I’ve always thought they were quite cute, but that’s alright. We all have our own preferences!” Her own face was quite saggy these days.

You know, it hadn’t been long since Dolly had... died, but she had gotten used to the life as a ghost. It really wasn’t that bad! She did like this boy’s comment though, and it got her to float up a little higher in excitement! ”You are quite right, my dear boy! Hold onto that thought.” She’d get to that later.

Someone had already mentioned tattoos before, but animated tattoos were something fun! ”Oh, yes indeed!” Dolly exclaimed when the head boy piped up with his answer. ”Yes, I reckon that would be quite neat!”

To be honest, Dolly was expecting more responses like “less acne” and “better beard growing abilities”. Certainly not anything about toes, but that was just fine. ”How very strange! But just as well, alright!” There was nothing wrong with wanting longer toes, she supposed!

Taking the last raised hand, Dolly pointed to the young girl and waited for her response. She thought her arms and legs were too long! Interesting, yes indeed. ”Well, that seems quite unfortunate! You know, you can always use charms to make your clothes longer.” But they wouldn’t be going over that in class today.
Once everyone was done offering their answers, Dolly moved on to the next portion of the lesson. ”Alright, excellent job everyone. Now we’ve got another question to get your brains even MORE warmed up.” You could never have too many brainstorming sessions!
”OH! Mr..... err.. Mr. Head Boy!” She was still bad at names. ”Could you please write this next bit on the board? Just write down some answers as they come out.” Then she waved her hands excitedly and turned her attention back to the class. ”Alright, now, for the next question, I want you all to tell me some ways, magical or mundane, that people use to enhance their beauty or hide their blemishes. Hmm? List them all, go on.” There were a lot of ways!
