| | Charms Lesson 1: Aparecium Charm When you walk into the Charms classroom, the big bold words on the chalkboard will remind you of the reading you should have done before class: Aparecium Charm. It’s a chilly autumn day, so the windows in the classroom are shut to keep the cold and the rain out. And although it’s just afternoon, the sky outside the windows is darker than normal, and an odd shade of purple, so the lights inside the room are lit a bit brighter than normal to illuminate the class room.
Professor Fuller-Thompson stands at the front of the classroom in his usual position, leaning up against the edge of his desk, waiting for his students to arrive, making note of who was there on time, who was running late and who was flipping their textbook open at the last minute because they forgot to do the reading. OOC: Welcome to Charms class! Just a reminder, this is the first OOC lesson, but this would not be the first charms lesson that your student would have attended. Class Progression:1. Greetings / Question 1 2. Replies / Question 2 3. Replies / Mini Activity 4. Main Activity

Well Chloe could do that. She listened to all the directions and sat thinking about what she could say. Hearing Ewan's words she just grinned, because there were a few in the class she could write to and say different things, but for now she would just practice. So pulling out a new piece of parchment and picking up the quill she started to write down her little message. Quote:
I really should study more.
That had many truths to it, but it was also something to write down. Watching as the ink disappeared her mind started wondering of all the amazing things they could use this ink for. All the notes she missed out on over the years that could have been hidden with this ink. Yes, the professors could just do the spell, but they would have to realize it wasn't blank paper first. This term was young, so maybe she'd use it this year.
Pulling out her wand she said the word, "Aparecium" and watched it reveal itself again.

| doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo No. Nina did not have something to say. :)
Aparecium was nothing complex, and Nina was slightly bothered by the simplicity of the task at hand. Of course there was always the option of trying it nonverbally, something she would opt for seeing as she wanted the extra challenge. She was a seventh year now. If she wanted to get into a GOOD university, she would have to ensure that her spell-work was impeccable. Nonverbals were important for NEWTs too. She knew the examiners liked to see students use them. It showed capability and capacity. Both were things Nina possessed. Mhm.
Of course she began by practicing the movement and incantation separately. Easy or not, it was a must. Without saying the incantation she tapped on her parchment three times, which was all the practice she needed as it was incredibly simple She did whisper the incantation to herself a few times though. Enunciating was key. ”App-ah-ree-see-uhm.” Just like that three times.
And when she was ready she pulled her parchment in close and took the provided quill and began to write in CRISP and TIGHT handwriting. My name is Nina Castillo.
She wasn’t about to write a REAL secret. Duh. ”Aparecium!” she tapped three times and watched as the hidden ink began to reveal itself. Easy. Just below where she wrote the first line, she picked up her quill, setting down her wand, and wrote another line. My name is Nina Castillo. I am a seventh year.
This time she concentrated very hard. Silently, she tapped the parchment three times.

| Who Am I? Ern's 2460FUN It was really cool that a Professor was teaching students how to make invisible notes. It was like they were all getting tacit permission to pass notes in class. What a cool thing to do, teach. Kale appreciated it. Classes were long. He needed something else to do when teachers got boring.
He scribbled down his private note.
And then tested the charm. "Aparecium. app - ah - REE - see - uhm. APARECIUM!" It felt a little weird in his mouth, like all new charms. Still, after a few more tries, when he finally felt he could go ahead and give it a whirl, call tapped his wand three times and said, "Aparecium!"
Slowly, his private words formed on the paper: The Headmaster needs a haircut.

He just knew that as a student he had hated teamwork, so he tried not to demand it too often.
Piers continued to walk around the room, watching the students work, giving Bernadette a suspicious look when she covered her paper with her hands. She was always up to something, wasn't she? Nope nope nope, not with Profesor Fuller-Thompson walking by. She'd just... make a new message on this side of the paper, AND write it smaller and neater this time. Blake Ryan has good hair.
By now she'd recalled that the professor had said to tap the parchment THREE times, and also, that's what had worked before, so she did just that.
"Aparecium!" Tap TAP TAP. Lo and behold, her message was visible!!!1 Blake Ryan has good hair.
Ugh, nooooooooooooo! Bernie was suddenly embarrassed by the sight of her own handwriting. Stupid stupid stupid, she internally admonished herself; she'd done the same thing on this side of the parchment that she'd done on the other side. What if Blake saw it from across the room gosh, Bernie, that was REAL likely and and and thought she LIKED him got a big head?! She had to cover that up too.
Bernie hurriedly rolled her parchment up into a scroll and then squashed it under her elbow, resting both her elbows on her desk and her chin on her fists. Nothing to see here, sir. Move along, move along.

Tom had been sat trying to figure out how to pronounce the spell, he had tried over and over again to say the world right. "Aparcium!" He tried to figure it out again "Aparecim!" nope that didn't sound right, he took another deep breath and then he smiled. "Aparecium!" That sounded more like it.
Tom then practice the wand movement, he tried it a few times before he then took another deep breath and then he practices some more because he wanted to make sure things were perfect before giving it a go.

Giving a small nod to the answer of the professor, the Ravenclaw prefect jotted down a quick sentence and watched as it vanished before his eyes. Huh. Maybe he’d have to invest in something like this just for some fun. Quote:
Ewan Jones
Ravenclaw
Prefect
Looking around, he cast a quick glance around at everyone around him trying to see if anyone had passed a note around but nope. Cool. Guess he’d just reappear his own note then. He didn’t mind honestly. It would save time and effort at least. ”App-ah-REE-see-uhm” he muttered under his breath to himself once or twice before finally casting the spell on the piece of parchment in from of him. ”Aparecium”
Nothing too difficult about this he thought as he gave his wand three simple taps which caused the writing to appear again. Simple. Easy. Nice. Maybe he'd write a few notes to other people later.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee There wasn't any more ink that Phoebe could possibly squeeze onto this sheet of parchment, which meant she had to actually try the spell. She sighed as she dropped her quill and picked up her wand. Maybe no one would even notice if she couldn't cast the spell correctly. Everyone was so focused on their own work...
"Aparecium," Phoebe whispered. Nothing. See? She knew it. It never worked right away, and sometimes it didn't work at all. "Aparecium," she swallowed hard and tried again. ANYTHING? Was the ink coming in a little? Or maybe she'd set the paper on fire and those were scorch marks.
UGH she was terrible. ForGET it.

Islay just watched everyone as they handed notes about and just sort of leaned her head on her hand for a moment. A small pout forming on her lips as she sat there, debating what to write and what to say as she took her pen and wrote a simple note. Siiiighh... i am mad at Landen for leaving
THERE she watched the ink disappear as it dried. Sad, it was true.
“Aparecium!” tap tap tap she watched as her message became visible. i am mad at Landen for leaving
Well...there it was, she was mad and that probably wasn’t healthy right?

Caledon Roth The Leaky Cauldron | Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Blink, blink. Okay… Heath definitely didn't expect Professor Fuller-Thompson to turn his question back on him, but he wasn't too flustered about it because he knew exactly what he'd do. Technically he wouldn't be in that situation in the first place. If he found anything that even remotely looked like a diary, he'd hand it in to a professor instead of trying to read it. But if for some reason he was in a position to read it, he'd keep the secrets to himself, no matter whose they were! So, was he supposed to actually answer that question or…?
The professor had already moved on, so Heath was going to take that as a no. He copied down the information on the board, listening carefully to the instructions given. This activity sounded refreshingly simple… though knowing his luck with wandwork, he’d still find a way to mess it up! At least the invisible ink quills were pretty cool-looking. For a moment, Heath wondered if they’d be allowed to keep the quills when class was over, but he supposed that wasn’t important right now. He took out a spare piece of parchment and used the quill to scribble down a message. It wasn’t anything deep or revealing, just the first thing that happened to come to mind. “App - ah - REE - see - uhm,” Heath said quietly. “App - ah - REE - see - uhm, aparecium, aparecium…” That spell was kind of a mouthful, but at least the wand movement was easy. Tap, tap, tap… He practiced the movement a few times, tapping his parchment in series of three. Okay, that was enough of that! TIme to try it for real, he supposed. Gathering his concentration, he tapped the parchment once, twice, three times and said, “Aparecium!”
Heath looked at his parchment, and… nothing happened. Why was he not at all surprised? “Aparecium,” he said again, this time slightly louder. Still nothing, ugh! The more tries it took, the more worried he became. What if he couldn’t do the spell before they moved on? What if the professor thought he was failing on purpose? Or worse, what if everybody thought he was dumb and made fun of him for it? He looked around nervously. Was everybody looking at him? It felt like everybody was looking at him! No? Okay…
Heath lost track of the number of failed attempts he’d made by the time Professor Fuller-Thompson said they were moving on soon. As soon as he heard that, his worry instantly turned to frustration. Wait, he could use that! The only times he had success with spells were when he was alone (which wouldn’t happen in a classroom setting) or when he had something to distract himself from his fear of failure. He took a deep breath, allowing his frustration to build until… He gave the parchment three firm taps and said, “Aparecium!”
Finally, the message appeared on his parchment; it was somewhat faint, but there nonetheless. Quote:
May the Force be with you!

| not throwing away my shot | Slytherpuff | roll for initiative | woof you ❤ Ooooh invisible ink! This was very cool. Alexandre excitedly reached for the quill with the invisible ink and pulled out a clean sheet of parchment. What should he write, though? He couldn't think of anything that really needed to be written in invisible ink. He supposed he could pretend he was a spy and had to get a secret message to his fellow spies without anyone else finding it. Yes, that sounded fun. He scrawled his message on his parchment. Meet me under the oak tree at dawn.
Yes that sounded like a message spy would need to send. He watched as the invisible ink faded and then his message was no more. This stuff was so cool! Where could he get some of his own? Never mind the fact that he didn't have anyone he really needed to send secret messages to. But he could send Willow a note with invisible ink and help her with the spell. That sounded very exciting!! But he was getting of track. He had to actually practice the spell himself now. He took out his wand and tapped it on his parchment three times. "Aparecium." He was a little surprised to see his message start to appear. On his first try too!! |

| Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia Well, it looked like just about everyone was getting the hang of the spell. Piers spent a good ten minutes wandering around the room, watching the students practice and succeed, offering tips and suggestions to those who looked like they needed it. Thankfully he didn't peep any atrocious secrets - thankfully the students knew better than to hide their deepest darkest desires with an easily revealed invisible ink. "Alriiiight, everyone. Wands down," Piers said, gathering everyone's attention as he moved back up to the front of the classroom. "You're all doing great so far. We'll get to practice some more, but we're gonna move onto our main activity for the rest of the class." Piers stood in front of his desk again as everyone settled down. "All throughout the classroom, there are pieces of paper laying about, some tucked into books, some laying on a shelf, others under different items and knickknacks. When you find one, I want you to cast the charm onto the paper and see what it says. Some have jokes, some are utter nonsense, and some..." Pause for effect... "Have special little surprises that you will definitely like." And that was the ONLY hint he was going to give because he didn't want anyone fighting over pieces of paper. "One thing to keep in mind is that EVERY piece of paper I've placed DOES have a note on it, so if you don't see a note, that means you haven't done the charm correctly, so keep on trying until the ink appears, alright? If you don't have any questions, then go get to it. You've got about twenty minutes to find and reveal as many as you can." And with that, Piers clapped his hands, signaling that they should get up and GO, GO, GO. OOC: Hey guys! Thanks for sticking with us this far! This brings us to our main activity. Just to reiterate, there are SEVERAL (like 200) scraps of paper scattered ALL over the classroom. Piers gave some examples (under trinkets, hidden in books, hiding in pots, under desks), but feel free to be creative as to where your student finds them, as long as it would make sense in a classroom setting. IMPORTANT NOTE: I WILL REPLY TO EACH POST AND TELL YOU WHAT YOUR PAPER SAYS. Do NOT write in your own note. If you do, I'll delete your post and PM you and ask you to try again. If you're impatient because I don't reply fast enough, don't worry, you just need to post once and you'll get points. It IS the weekend, after all, but I'm going to try my best to be as fast as I can!
As an example, you can have your post be something like "Billy bob found a piece of paper under a dog miniature statue! Billy Bob cast the spell on the paper and waited to see what would appear..." And then I'll quote your post and reply with what the paper says. Make sense? If you have any questions and/or want clarification, shoot me a PM or VM and I'll reply as soon as I can. If your character has a question for the Charms Professor, please put "Professor" or "Question" in the title of your post to make sure I see it.
You have FOUR DAYS to complete this activity, so don't stress. Just have fun! |

WOOHOO, MAIN ACTIVITY!
You know what that meant, right? Class was nearly dismissed! Not that Isla hated Charms. Or Fuller-Thompson. Both were very, very cool. She just thought class being dismissed was even cooler.
Okay, so time to roam the room and hunt down the hidden papers. This would be a really good opportunity to just smack somebody in the back of the head and be like, 'OOPS, sorry! I thought I saw a paper!' Her Head-of-House would be so disappointed in her, though.
Isla peeked around and around, until she finally decided to try under her desk. She knelt down and twisted her head in an unnatural manner as she peered this way and that. AH HA. A paper! The second year unattached the paper from its hiding place and sat down in her desk. She placed the paper in front of her. "Aparecium!" she called out. Tap, tap, tap!

| Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Fiona wasn't particularly good at finding things. After all, wasn't that more of a Hufflepuff thing? She was going to have a good go at finding as many of the mystery pieces of paper as she could and so she began her search. She came across a slightly battered and dusty copy of "Quintessence: A Quest" that was located on the middle row in one of the bookshelves towards the side of the classroom.
Carefully flipping through the pages of the book, Fiona found a piece of blank parchment. She grabbed both the book and the piece of paper and returned to her desk. Placing both items down in front of her, Fiona tapped the paper three times with her wand and said, "Aparecium!" |

Ohhh, that explains why there was a random piece of paper under her chair. She saw it when she sat down before class began, but didn't pick it up because ... well, she just didn't. When the main activity started, she stood up from her seat and immediately picked up the paper under the chair. Placing it on her desk, she cast the Aparecium Charm on it. "Aparecium," she said as she tapped the paper three times with her wand, just like the way she practised earlier. A message began to reveal itself slowly, which meant that the charm worked! She hoped it was one of the special messages that the professor mentioned, because she was curious about what he meant by that.

| a bit of catchup at the beginning (just for the flow) and then *tries it nonverbally* Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict Still with thoughts of the gossip paper in her mind, now along with Disillusionment charms and the like, Carys had been wondering what other uses the charms had been applied to. Even so, she had quickly sketched a sunflower on her parchment when the mini activity had been introduced, only taking her wand out once she had set the quill back down. It was definitely odd not knowing what was on the parchment. Even if instinctively she did know, not seeing it was rather disconcerting. She’d still practiced the incantation in her head as usual before putting it into practice. Aparecium, aparecium, aparecium. Once she felt confident, she whispered it out loud once before tapping her parchment three times, choosing to actually try it as a non-verbal charm. She didn’t want to let her OWL score down.
As the lesson had moved on, she’d glanced up from the sketch long enough to acknowledge what they were supposed to be doing. Finding pieces of parchment should be pretty simple. She was a Hufflepuff after all. Still, she wanted the challenge, so she had gotten out of her seat to wander toward the shelves by the walls. Something told her it was a good hiding place, even before she saw a corner peeking out from between the pages of a book. She’d pulled the book off the shelf and opened it to make sure it wasn’t just a bent page, and once that was done, she tapped the parchment three times again. Aparecium

ooo... secret messages from the Professor!! What fun!! Blake was able to get some of his message to appear before, but that was when he already knew what was said, maybe he'll have more motivation now that he really really really wanted to see what was on it.
Focusing hard, Blake took out his wand and prepared. "Aparecium" Blake said tapping the paper in front of him, one, two, three times! He was very confident it was going to work this time and he was certain he could start to see something appearing ..... what did it say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| we've totally been here all this time PHILOMATH ❅ not one atom, but two ♪ ♪ made of starstuff ❅ def main(): Ronan wasn't really sure if he liked this spell, or that everyone would be really good at it. He DID like the invisible ink, that was really neat, but now there was no point to it because everyone would know how to make hidden messages visible.
Anyway.
Confident enough with the incantation and his tapping abilities (all spells should just be tapping instead of waving in his opinion), Ronan ran a hand through his hair as he looked around the classroom. Hidden papers. He saw people bending under their chairs and tables, so just to be different he didn't check there and instead went over to the opposite side of the classroom, by the windows. Aha! Reaching up on his tiptoes - where was Maxie when you needed him - Ronan snatched a piece that was wedged between the window and its frame.
He squinted at it as he made his way back to his desk, trying to spot where the invisible ink was. Stupid, obviously, but he tried all the same. "Aparecium!" tap tap tap Ronan cast, and waited.

| not throwing away my shot | Slytherpuff | roll for initiative | woof you ❤ This activity sounded like so much fun!! Alexandre was HERE for it. He felt like a real spy going around and finding hidden, secret messages. He wished that he was wearing a better outfit. His school robes were not very spy-like. But he decided it was okay because if he really was a spy he would have to wear what everyone else was wearing so he could blend in and not be suspicious.
He hopped up from his desk and started searching around the room. It was harder to find hidden messages when everyone else was also looking for the same hidden messages. A few times he had spotted corners of papers but someone else beat him to it. So he found an area of the classroom that had less people searching in it and looked there. He was looking high and low, over and under things. And then he saw a corner of a piece of paper peeking out from behind the chalkboard. He hurried over to it and pulled, until he was holding the entire scrap of paper. Success!
Alexandre smoothed out the paper and set it on the ground, crouching over it with his wand. Seeing as he couldn't see anything on the paper there was no guarantee that he was even looking at the right side. He would just have to hope. And if this side didn't work he would try the other next. He tapped the paper with his wand three times. Tap, tap, tap. "Aparecium." And he waited to see if the secret message would show. |

Avalon was busy revealing another one of her own messages when Professor Fuller-Thompson moved on to the main activity. She put her wand down to listen to the directions. Oh, that sounded fun! It was kind of like a scavenger hunt, except without the clues....which was totally fine with her, because she was getting a little tired of answering riddles every time she needed to enter her common room. For this task, all she needed to do was look for pieces of paper.
She started searching around the room, but it was a little harder than she thought it would be, with everyone scurrying around and trying to find messages. After a few failed attempts at looking under desks and shelves, Avalon noticed a little note tucked into the window frame. Elated, she skipped over to it. After smoothing it out, she tapped it with her wand three times. "Aparecium!" Now to see what this hidden message had to say.....

The piece of paper that you have chosen reveals itself after you perform the charm. Quote:

"Yo, Pheebs," Bernie worked her way over to her desk, since they COULD move around and look for hidden messages now. "Pheebs, you have to tap the parchment three times to see the message."
Don't worry, she'd done the same thing the first time. As for hidden messages? Bernie walked around her friend and tried to see if any were hidden like on the back of her chair or other side of her desk something. Hmm, nope, not seeing anything yet. Perhaps it was her helpfulness being rewarded, or just a coincidence, but a little piece of blank parchment floated down from the ceiling and landed right on the Gryffindor's head. What would it say? Carefully flipping through the pages of the book, Fiona found a piece of blank parchment. She grabbed both the book and the piece of paper and returned to her desk. Placing both items down in front of her, Fiona tapped the paper three times with her wand and said, "Aparecium!" When the parchment was found and brought back to the desk, it remained blank for a few moments. But once the spell took place, the ink began to reveal itself. "Aparecium," she said as she tapped the paper three times with her wand, just like the way she practised earlier. A message began to reveal itself slowly, which meant that the charm worked! She hoped it was one of the special messages that the professor mentioned, because she was curious about what he meant by that. The parchment had been hiding in plain sight, which some may have took to mean that it wasn't anything special. But once the girl performed the charm, she would find that it was indeed special...
Aparecium Once the parchment was plucked from the book, it lay blank for a few moments. Oh, a nonverbal charm. How exciting. Would that get her a even MORE special message? Quote:

And the little strip of parchment was free! It stayed blank as it laid on the desk. Until the charm was performed, when it revealed its hidden message... Quote:

Well, she had just barely managed to successfully cast the charm before Professor Fuller Thompson was advising that it was time to move on to the main activity. Which apparently included finding special notes about the class? Well, that sounded easy enough. K glanced around the room watching the other students for a brief second, most of whom seemed to find one near their general vicinity, before she moved over towards the book cases. If she was hiding notes about in a classroom, she knew of at least ONE spot she'd be sure to put one.
Scanning the book case, K grinned when she found their current textbook, sliding it off the shelf before opening it to their previous reading chapter. And finding a note within. She slid out the piece of parchment before putting the book back in it's rightful place and pulling out her wand. Three taps. "Aparecium!"
She kinda hoped she was getting a joke one. What was Professor FT's sense of humor like?

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes. Quite an interesting activity this was going to be. Claudine was quite ready to take up the challenge and as she observed everyone, a lot of them had already gotten up from their seats to begin the hunt. This slightly put her off the assignment as this would mean mingling more than usual with the fellow students. Well, it wouldn’t hurt to start at her own desk, right? The girl reached under her desk with her dominant hand to let her fingers brush the underside in the effort to find a parchment. Unfortunately, there was none there.
Disappointed, she straightened up. Oh. The chair. The Snakette snuck her hand under the it and almost immediately, her fingers found a slip of parchment. Excellent. The slip was set on her desk. Wand in hand, Claudine got to work. “Aparecium.” Tap, tap, tap. Come on, message. |

SECRET MESSAGES HIDDEN AROUND EVERYWHERE?! Aboli thought that was DEAD cool of her head of house to think of. He was a clever man, wasn't he? Must be, if he's a professor.
So...Aboli went in search of her first note. Everyone had DARTED in all directions and found the very obvious ones. So...she went diggging into the behind-spots and nooks and crannies, and found a note stashed in between two floorboards, sticking up ever so slightly! AH HA NOTE WE FOUND YOU! She snatched it up and gave it a quick three taps. "Aparecium!" she cried, excited to see what it said!
