It was a very chilly November afternoon, the sun was getting lower in the sky, but not low enough that you couldn't see. Tristan had decided to have the lesson outside of his hut because he needed to use the fire pit, though it used to be a lot smaller than it is now. The fire pit had become very large! Large enough so that every student would be able to sit in the camp chairs around it.
Oddly enough, Tristan was able to create a giant camp chair out of hay bales just to the left of the fire pit. It was so large, about 4 people could sit on it comfortably, but they would need a step ladder to get onto it. Good thing it was only meant for him to use! Sitting at the edge of his giant chair, sipping his Hot Chocolate, Professor Wayland waited patiently for his students to arrive.
OOC: Welcome to the first CoMC Lesson of the term! Though this is our first lesson together, this is not the first CoMC lesson of the year, so please keep that in mind! Please make sure you take a gander at the CoMC Rules while waiting. Class will start in 24 hours. Class has begun so please jump in and join us! Remember if you post your character arriving late there will be IC consequences.

She couldn't remember having Care of Magical Creatures at this hour--which naturally sent her thinking process into overdrive. What creatures were better studied around this time of day? Or was it some kind of life project that could only be seen around now?
"Hello, Professor." The Ravenclaw greeted, pulling her sweater closer as she approached. A fire. After the last term, this sort of thing no longer surprised her. Jessa simply cast a bubblehead charm then went to take a seat.
It didn't take long for her own heating charm to conflict with the warmth coming off of the flames. It was either or; she couldn't have them both. Knowing that the fire would be going nowhere anytime soon, the 14 year old ended her own charm and allowed the fire to get to work.
Oh! Before she forgot. "I've been meaning to ask you, do undead creatures count in the list of experiments I need to tell you about?" He'd insisted she needed permission and he may even have been interested, who knew.

CoMC was Emmeline's ultimate favorite subject for OBVIOUS reasons. Plus, she was never, ever late to these lessons 'cause she could just walk over from the baby creature barn. Sirius usually had loads of energy in the afternoons, though, and it was kinda sad to have to put him back in his kennel for any afternoon lesson. Even though Emmeline was pretty sure he just took a nap until she showed up again. Still, she'd gotten in a good amount of play time with her cruppy by scarfing down eating a super quick lunch today, so the second year was in a really chipper mood as she bounced over to Professor Wayland's hut.
The first thing she noticed was a HUGE fire pit, coool! She wondered if they were going to work with creatures that liked fires today or something. The second thing was that Professor Wayland was sitting on a realllly big throne made of hay. Emmeline couldn't help giggling a bit at the sight as she waved and called out, "Hiiii Professor Wayland! I like your throne--uhh, chair." He hadn't noticed that slip up, right? Blushing a little bit 'cause she totally hadn't meant to say that out loud, Emmeline plopped into one of the camp chairs super close to the fire. It was cold and stuff AND she wanted to get a good view of the creatures when they came out, mhm.
Zarina was interested in coming to COMC. Zae was always interested in the animals and see what they provided for the magical community. This slytherin was not a fan of the colder weather. As she walked down towards the grounds bunched up in her robes and scarf, she saw in clear sight a firepit. Thank merlin there was a fire pit. She wouldn't survive without one. Zarina made sure she sat right in front of it with her hands out. Her hands were always the ones that got cold first.
As she was content with the warming up process, she noticed the Professor sitting there. Well hot merlin. He was cute. She beamed and giggled a little bit. "Hello Professor..." she greeted him with. "Would you by any chance have any cocoa to spare?" Worth a shot to ask right? I mean this slytherin was in the mood for some cocoa.

No matter what, there was no way Stasya would have missed a CoMC lesson. Nothing would have stopped her from finding her way down to the barns or wherever the lesson was being held, even if she'd been hurt or sick in the hospital wing. It was creatures, so she'd be there. And besides, she wasn't hurt or sick or otherwise being stopped from going. Plus, she could practically see the giant fire pit from the castle.
She'd gone back to the castle after her usual daily visit to the barns to see Dobby, Albus and the winged horses to clean herself up, but it was an excited blonde that skipped down to the fire pit. Fire meant all sorts of possibilities for creatures after all. She'd even tried to peer inside the pit to check for salamanders before choosing a seat kind of between the fire and the professor's giant hay bale throne. "Hi Professor Wayland!," she called up to him with a big smile, before giving Emmeline and Jessa grins too. Hopefully the lesson was going to start soon. She wanted to know what creature they were learning about now.

Shivering, that was a thing, even with her charms at work. She just wasn't meant for the cold is all. Junia hugged her arms as she approached the assembling group of students, relieved to see the fire pit. That was a good sign. The fifth year even managed a little smile for the man in charged when she greeted him. "Hello Professor Wayland, nice to see you...cool chair thing." He didn't happen to have any more of that hot chocolate, did he?
Taking a seat, the brunette rubbed her hands together and waited for class to begin.

As Kirk stepped outside to head for his lesson, he could feel how nippy the outdoors were getting. It was November, with the nearly sixteen-year-old wizard, he bundled up a little bit more than he normally would during this time of year. After feeling under the weather not too long ago, the last thing he needed was for the symptoms to repeat again.
"Hello, Professor." He greeted. Big chair, cool. He went to take a spot so his own thoughts can form on how today will go.
It was cold outside so Henry jogged his way down towards the professor's hut for CoMC class. It helped get his blood pumping and warmed him up enough until he reached the fire pit which was sure to keep him toasty during class.
"Good afternoon, Professor!" He greeted the man cheerfully before slipping into one of the camp chairs and leaning closer to the fire. Was that hot chocolate that Wayland was drinking? He found himself wishing that he had brought enough for the class, but Henry made a mental note to get some after class.

Katy was ready to spend some time outdoors, so she was grateful the professor was throwing class right out in the open air today. Granted, that seemed to be his preference, but she wasn't about to complain. Not while the weather was good and she was feeling cooped up all indoors.
"Good day, sir. You have a real... thing with hay bales, huh? Do you own stock in hay futures or something?" She took up her own camp chair and sat daintily in it.

Ah, Care of Magical Creatures. Derf's favorite lesson. Zoryn didn't care for the subject all that much, but she didn't hate it either. Sometimes they got to play in dirt and that was fun. But most of the time, it was just kinda in her class schedule so she showed up because she didn't have anything better to do, which was all but a fortunate coincidence for Professor Wayland, right?
Yes.
Zoryn Amari Spinnet, aka Professor Wayland's most FAVORITEST student, was here at last!!! AND she was going to grace him with her presence by sitting next to him so that he wouldn't have to search for her in the darkness. Your welcome, sir. 'Cause getting old and having a midlife crisis meant that your eyesight goes bad, and Zoryn didn't want to make Professor Wayland have to strain his eyes any more than usual. What an INSPRIATION, she was.
Beaming at the sight of the fire, Zoryn sent waves over to those she knew (especially Jessa and Emmeline) before marching up to Professor Wayland's thrown of hay. Hm. It was a little tall, but there was definitely enough room for the two of them... So Zoryn would have to make it work.
Good thing she was so great at climbing things.
A talent which would truly show forth today. And with that in mind, the Gryffindor kicked her foot into the hay bale and got some leverage. With a small hop, she was able to muster up enough momentum to get herself up. "What's up Professor W?!?!" Finally on top of the pile of hay on all fours, the Gryffindor adjusted herself so that she could kick her legs over the edge and let them dangle. "Oooh,
neat! Have more to share?" 'Cause if he didn't have hot chocolate for all of them, then that was real rude. Zoryn didn't mind sharing the mug either, sharing is caring y'know?

Daisy was very appreciative of the large firepit considering the nippiness of the November air. "Hello, Professor Wayland!" she greeted warmly as she made her way to the lesson and sat down in one of the camp chairs.

It was a chilly November afternoon indeed! She cast a heating charm around herself as she left the castle. Hugging her arms closer to her, Vi made her way to the grounds and was relieved to see that they would be sitting by a large firepit. That was so cool! "Hello Professor Wayland! How're you?" asked Vi with a smile, giving a wave to Emmeline and Zoryn. Then the sixth year took a seat in one of the many chairs, feeling warmer being next to the fireplace already.

CREAAAAAAAAAATUUUUUUUUURES!
Derf was stoked and had been drumming on his thighs and desk the entirety of the rest of other lessons waiting for his favorite class. BOLTING down from the castle, the Hufflepuff greeting the professor with a MASSIVE grin and quickly took note of the obvious fire pit.
Well then. THAT drummed up LOADS of ideas. Along with wondering if Vivian happened to have more marshmallows with her so maybe they could have smores after. OH! OOOOOOOH! WHAT IF THEY WERE HATCHING DRAGONS AND THEN TRAINING THEM TO ROAST MARSHMALLOWS AS A MEANS OF BONDING WITH THEM?!
"Dragons?" he hissed eagerly at the professor.
The third year's eyes were aglow in eagerness as he came to a stop and plopped down in a seat...

Etta was excited for her next lesson.. for obvious reasons. She headed down to the grounds, looking forward to class and trying not to focus on how cold it was. She was already tired of this weather, even though winter had barely even set in. She greeted the professor with a huge smile and wave. “Hello, professor! Hope you’re doing well today.”
She wondered what they’d be learning as she took a seat next to the fire, putting her hands out to warm them up. Ugh, COLD. Some tea would be nice right about now.. heh. The girl rubbed her hands together, hoping class would begin soon.

Daisy turned and smiled as a fellow Hufflepuff sat down next to her. "Hello, Derf! How are you?" She began rubbing her hands together, feeling the cool air a bit too much for her liking.
"He... Hello, Professor," Maisie said. It was super chilly today, so the little Ravenclaw was bundled up in a thick cloak. She was wearing an oversized Ravenclaw scarf and had her satchel swinging at her hip. It was blue with hand-embroidered silver stars. It reminded Maisie of the night sky, and her mother, a magical seamstress. Maisie had methodically gone through her bag before leaving the castle, checking she had parchment and ink, a quill and a spare quill, her textbook... Her dragonhide gloves (the one fabric her mother could do nothing with), were swinging from the strap.

Usually, Rhea would be extra grumpy when the weather was like this. But, today, it somehow seemed fitting. She was cold on the inside and the outside now. It gave her a sense of peace. That, paired with the fact that she had Care of Magical Creatures to look forward to, resulted in her mood being surprisingly pleasant.
As she approached the hut, Rhea noticed the camping chairs that were set out around a huge fire pit. So much for her being one with the cold. Still, if the location of the lesson - specifically, the fact they were sat around a massive fire pit - was anything to judge by, it seemed like they'd be having an interesting class today. The fifth year nodded at Professor Wayland. "Hello, Professor," she said as she sat down in one of the empty camping chairs.
.... Shuffle .... Shift .... Shuffle ....
Ah. The seats were even less comfortable than they looked.

"Awesome," he grinned, taking note of how not-awesome Daisy was doing though. Notably how the cold was effecting her loads more than himself. He was not exactly the sort that was well equipped for an icy tundra by any stretch of the imagination, but this particular subject just had a way to get his blood pumping and therefore...he felt particularly warm. "Here, use mine," he offered as he unraveled his Hufflepuff scarf and wrapped part of it around her hands.
Ought to help a little until they were up and moving doing things.
He would have offered to conjure come bluebell flames or something but...er...that usually ended in disaster and there was loads of hay around.

Shay was looking forward to Care of Magical Creatures class as she headed out of the castle. As usual, she enjoyed being outside and took her time getting to the meeting area. It was cool, but not uncomfortably so and Shay enjoyed her walk to class.
When she arrived, Shay saw a humongous fire surrounded by many chairs. Well that was cozy and the warmth would be welcome on a cool day. "Hello Professor", she said. "Can't wait to see what you have planned for us today." Finding an empty chair, Shay sat down and prepared her things for class. Maybe she would have a chance to visit Coco when they were finished.

CoMC class was one that Noelle enjoyed. The professor was gorgeous, the animals were amazing, and she just always had fun.
So even though it was chilly, Noelle was excited to be going to class. She had her robe pulled around her as she looked around. She saw the giant throne for the professor and grinned and sent him a little wave before joining Shay by the fire pit. "Hey there lady." She said happily and nudged her.

He saw his professor sitting in a huge hay bale seat. He smiled a bit because it was very similar to the bonfires he had been to asa kid in America. This felt very familiar to him, and he was extremely ready for this lesson. He sat down around the fire and greeted the professor, "Good afternoon, evening? Can't remember today." He chuckled while sitting down.

Interesting throne there, professor. Char was happy enough with a camp chair though, especially when she found one right next to Henry. She smiled at him happily and waggled her little finger at him, their sign for 'I wish I could kiss you right now but we are in public and also don't want to break rules in class'. It was more fun in a way, the sign, since only the two of them knew it's meaning.
"Hi Professor!" She greeted the man as she sat, eager to see what was in store for them today.

Walking down to Care of Magical Creatures was almost an auto-pilot like routine by now. He had done it so many times before, that he was pretty sure his body knew the way even with his eyes closed. Not that he actually walked it with his eyes closed, 'cause safety... but you know - it was the thought of it just happening and then all of a sudden, realising you were there. At your destination. With no idea of how you got there.
..... Anyway.
With a grin and a quick wave to Professor Wayland, Remy moved to his own chair in front of the fire. So far, so good. He always liked a good fire... especially one that was outside in Winter. Good choices so far, Professor. Very nice.

Of course his first student to arrive was none other than Jessa Cambridge! He smiled, "Hello, Jessa." He was very happy she was making good choices this term....and then that question was asked.
He gaped at her for a second before being able to answer. "Firstly, Undead? Secondly, YES. I would definitely consider that something to talk to me about." He sighed, taking another sip of his Hot Chocolate.

Tristan hadn't noticed Zoryn making her entrance. But soon he noticed her head just below his feet. He wasn't sure if he should be shocked or angry. He was kind of a little bit of both. Zoryn knew she wasn't supposed to be up here. These hay bale creations were specifically for him because they could easily fall apart. As soon as she sat next to him he gritted his teeth, and thought in his head...what would Rose do?
"Zoryn, you know these hay bale creations are not for students, they are only for me. You need to get down now and sit with the rest of the class,
or I will take points away." He paused, "There will be refreshments at the end of the lesson. Now, please get down." He was actually still upset with her for the incident in the barn. But he wasn't going to bring that up.

It was more fun in a way, the sign, since only the two of them knew it's meaning.
"Hi Professor!" She greeted the man as she sat, eager to see what was in store for them today.
"Hi Charlotte!" He said with a grin. Tristan had heard of the pairing between the young Gryffindor and the Head Boy. He thought they were rather cute together. Ah, young love! He sighed looking down at his watch again. Time to start!

..... Anyway.
With a grin and a quick wave to Professor Wayland, Remy moved to his own chair in front of the fire. So far, so good. He always liked a good fire... especially one that was outside in Winter. Good choices so far, Professor. Very nice.
Ah, a straggler! He was just in time though! Tristan gave the young man a quick wave and smile making sure there was no one else behind him.
Before he hopped down from his giant camp chair, he made sure that Zoryn was seated by the fire. That child was going to be the death of him. He was sure of it! With a flick of his wand the hay bales started to separate and rolled around making a neat pile by the side of his hut. That would do for now.
He made his way to the front of the group. "Good afternoon class! As you can see, today we are doing something with fire. But did you notice that the fire isn't one gigantic fire? It is actually in fact many small individual fires." He gave the students a moment to look into the depths of the flames. "Now, if you look hard enough you will be able to see the creature we are working with today." He grinned, giving them all a chance to see if they could find the creatures.
"If you haven't found one yet, I will tell you what they are!" He paused with a grin, "Salamanders! But not your typical everyday muggle Salamander, obviously. That would be positively boring." He said a little dramatically.
"Now I have a few questions for you. You may answer all or one. I leave it up to you." He paused. "What are the characteristics of magical Salamanders? How do they differ from Muggle Salamanders? Is there more than one type of magical Salamander?" He paused before continuing, "Please only give one characteristic so that everyone has a chance to answer." He then waited patiently for the answers to come flowing in.

Please remember that if you show up late there will be IC consequences.

Ah... Salamanders. Kirk guessed that would be alright. The heat was pretty nice for this type of weather. He remembered reading a tale on the Salamander versus the Jarvey and how the Jarvey attempted to ingest a tiny one, with disastrous results, naturally.
Kirk considered the characteristics on the Salamanders. He didn't read too much on the muggle versions, but he would assume they're not as noticeable. If he were to guess, they probably did produce flames often. But he wasn't going to share something he wasn't 100% on. Instead, he focused on one distinction. "They can appear scarlet or blue depending on how hot their flames are." That had to be one.
