| | |  Barn and Pastures
 As you walk past Professor Wayland's hut, you will notice that there is a huge barn not too far away, with the Nursery between them. The barn is a home to many magical beasts, including some hippogriffs, winged horses, and other large and small creatures. In the middle of the barn there is plenty of open space which is perfect for taking some of the smaller creatures out of their pens to play. There are also pastures outside around the barn with fences surrounding it. You can take the larger animals out there and play with them or ride them. There is also a magical barrier that will not allow the creatures to go outside of the fence, for your protection and theirs. Professor Wayland has provided buckets, gloves, boots, helmets, brushes, etc. for you to use. The students and other staff members are permitted to come in and interact with the creatures. Anyone that enters the Barn area signed a permission slip before entering.

Not wanting to argue with her now, Ewan smiled, holding his hands up in front of himself as if to give in. “Okay, okay... I’m just saying, you’re allowed other friends”. He liked Rylee. She put up with his excessive fooling around when most people would not but... he was not about to act like someone else just because her brother was around.
Watching her closely now, he couldn’t help but notice how at ease she was here. Listening closely now to all the things that she did here, he couldn’t help but be impressed. She loved these creatures. Him? Uh...maybe not all of them. Following her now, his eyes widened as they approached the large winged creatures. “Wooooah, what are they?”, his face widening into his usual monkey grin. They were obviously not horses but could not be that far away either.
Shaking a little, his curiosity at the brim, he took a tentative step towards the creature she nodded to.

Reese nodded as she told him Tobias preferred mice.. Seemed appropriate.. His foxes liked to hunt small rodents as well.. " Alright.. I'd hope they were alive.. It's more fun and natural for 'im to hunt 'em down 'imself..", he replied as he made his way over to where she had told him the mice were held.
In went his hand as he lifted the lid.. " Ah!.. Gotcha!..", he exclaimed as he snagged one by the end of it's tail. The Little Badger Boy was used to hunting alongside his charges at home. So, he wasn't at all squeamish or light-stomached.
He turned back to Quinnie and saw the cutest smile he'd ever seen before on her face.. He could see her dimples.. He'd never seen them before and he decided right then and there that he wanted to see her smile like that always.. He was too busy thinking and deciding that he wasn't aware that he was smiling like a ninny as he stared at her.. Smooth, Prich.. Real smooth

She continued to watch as he impressively snatched one up with relative ease on what looked like his first try. Quinn would often spend 5 minutes trying and failing and end up accio'ing one of the mice instead.
And suddenly was aware of him watching her as she watched him. Warmth spread through her cheeks, a familiar warmth that she was learning meant she was blushing a little. Quinn turned away, watching Tobias instead. "You just, uh...just dangle it by its tail as you lower it in. Sometimes he tries to grab it before you've finished putting it in there." Namely the first time she had feed him. She hadn't been lowering it by the tail and when he struck, he got part of her hand, and managed to somehow look every sheepish and sorry the rest of the week.
Quinn was quite deliberately avoiding looking directly at Reese, at least until the pink tint to her cheeks faded.

Did she just blush a bit? Reesey thought to himself when he had turned to see her smile fully and blush.. His body was in revolt as well as his ears and cheeks burnt red... Way to light it up, Prich..
" Oh.. Ya don't put in in the opposite corner so he can hunt it out?.. Pulsar and Radar love ferretin' out vermin to eat.. Mice and squirrels and rabbits..", he said as he walked over beside her.. Up went the mouse in his hand and into Tobias' enclosure towards the back.
" Are ya gonna watch him get it? ", Reese asked as he looked over at her. He was all full of butterflies and weird feelings.. She made him smile for no reason. And the truth was he liked when she let him walk her back up to Ravenclaw Tower at the end of the day.. She was smart, sassy, witty and as a bonus too.. She was very pretty.

Seeing his 'surrender' she grinned at him. "And I have other friends. So does he. It's gonna happen, we'll both have friends the other doesn't like." She just hadn't expected it to happen so soon or for whatever reason it might be that it was happening for now.
It wasn't just here. She was typically at ease around most creatures. Especially back at home when in the forest. Gosh, how she missed the forest... and the lake. Seeing the look on his face she smiled widely. "These are winged horses. Something like a muggle horse but not really... larger for sure, stronger and faster... not to mention they can fly. Sadly we can't go in there without Professor Wayland knowing... and if he was here we could ask to ride them." Which was what she really wanted to do. It was a lot like flying on a broom only well the winged horse was more in control.
If he was really looking closely he would notice that they were all different breeds but being he didn't know magical creatures well he might not notice that fact.

"Well, the mice usually run to the other side once you let go, anyway." They attempted to flee the snake, naturally. Her cheeks were returning to their normal temperature, and Quinn relaxed again.
It still flustered her quite a bit how she was beginning to be around him, and even more surprising was the fact she didn't seem to exactly want that to change. It was odd, and new and confusing, and seemed to increasingly put her off-kilter around him, and yet, not exactly unpleasant either.
Quinn shook her head slightly to clear the thought away and regain some of her normal self. That's all. She just needed to work at staying her normal self around him. A challenge, yeah?
Finally she glanced back up at Reese and grinned widely. "Of course, we're going to watch him." If you couldn't stand to see your snake eat, you really ought not to have one. Her brow furrowed questioningly for a moment just before she turn to watch Tobias slither his way toward the mouse, tongue scenting the air frequently. "Who are Pulsar and Radar?"

“Uh, Duh. You have me” * Jazz hands* Giving her a cheeky wink, he turned back to the winged horse.
Looking at her face now, he could see that she was deep in thought. “Watcha thinking about Ry?”. Curiosity really was going to be the death of him. And then... it was out of his mind. “Did you say...ride”, worry slowly spreading across his face. Secretly, he was happy Professor Wayland wasn’t here. “I mean...uh, aww no. That’s a shame”. Pausing for a second, he looked at her. Then, he began to laugh uncontrollably, a cheeky smile spreading across his face. He knew she’d seen through his lie there, but he didn’t mind. “Maybe I’ll just start with feeding them or something. I’ve only ever been on a horse a few times. There are a few that live in the mountains behind my home”. | |

"That I do," Rylee laughed her grin widening as she rocked back and forth on her heels just a tad bit more.
There she went getting herself lost in her own thoughts again. Oops. "Hmm?" She turned to glance at him. "Oh. Yeah, I did, why?" Did he not want to ride them? The small ginger haired one turned slightly to look up at her friend eyeing him for a brief moment, calculatingly. He looked worried. She could see right through that fake smile on his face. Not everyone was like her, she forgot that sometimes... not everyone was a lion and ready to throw themselves head first into everything and anything.
"It's cool. Don't worry about it. Maybe we can work up to riding them, hm? We can't even really go in the stables without Professor Wayland's permission. Some of the larger creatures can be hard to handle and he doesn't want us getting hurt. We can take care of the smaller ones if you want to meet some of those?"

Making a note of the fact she didn’t answer his question, he turned back at the winged horse, eyeing it up. “I’d try. I mean, I might fall off but hey... if I die, it’s your fault”, grinning at her again now. Honestly, the curiosity would be too much, not for him to have a go. “So, what can we do now? I mean, I want to feed something or hold something. Or is there anything that needs care?”. Looking around now, he eyed up a variety of creatures carefully.
“Back home, we have a dog. I wish I could have brought her here”. He didn’t often talk about his little baby that he had to leave at home. Here? He felt as though he was safe. He was around animals lovers and they wouldn’t judge him.

Reese gave her a little grin when she looked up him.. It was weird how every time he was near her his heart would race and his hands would sweat.. He liked being able to spend his free time with her.. She was always trying to test his nerve and challenge him somehow.. Whether it be a new spell they'd learned that day or intellectually with one debate or another..
"Oh.. Their my foxes.. Well, Pulsar is Rylee's, but I raised him with Radar.. Our older sister has a finnec fox as well.. Maybe over the Christmas holiday you could come and meet them?.. I'm sure Rian wouldn't mind at all.. " he replied brightly.
It would be brilliant if she were to accept his invitation.. He'd be able to show her their den and the trails to his fishing spot by the lake's edge.. They could even go ice skating!

That was a very common thing with her and nine out of ten times it was unintentional. Should he ask the question again it would most likely get answered. With her energy and hyperactive mind she was constantly thinking about things so from time to time things slipped past her. "I wouldn't intentionally let you fall to your death," she laughed shaking her head. "We would ride together. That way I could teach you how to handle them since it would be your first time and all." Did he really think she was silly enough to let him go and ride one of these winged horse alone? Heck, the professor probably wouldn't even allow them to ride them alone yet given their ages.
"Lots. There's tons we can do in here. There's also the other barn for the baby creatures we can check out... Professor Wayland always needs a helping hand in there too." She loved it in that barn! "We can play with the Crups or the Kneazles if you want... um their kinda like cats and dogs... only Kneakles are much smarter." As she spoke she was already making her way over there. Or more like skipping her way over there all the while humming under her breath a little tune HE so kindly got stuck in her head earlier.
"Oh? We don't have a dog... but we have foxes. Three of them. And owls... and my sister has a pygmy puff. Plus Neptune." Couldn't forget him.

Ride together? Hmm... Okay, at least if he died, he could drag her with him. “Sounds good to me. We just need to find the Professor now!”. Would she let him alone on the winged horses? No although a lot of people here wouldn’t care if he got hurt. Thankfully, she wasn’t one of those people. Hopefully.
He couldn’t help but smile at the way she skipped over to the smaller creatures. AND...YESYEYSYESYYEYSYEYSYEYSY! She hummed the song! His evil plan had worked after all! “That sounds amazing! I mean, I’d love to play with them!”. Following her now, he also skipped. Just because. I mean, why not! It looked fun when she did it. And well, you know, who doesn’t love a guy that skips amazingly well! Skipping now in a slightly dramatic way, he followed her, a cheesy wide smile across his face. “This girl is on FIIIIIIRE!”
“Owls? Foxes? Pygmy puffs? Okay...Wizard families have slightly different pets”. Smiling at her last comment about Neptune, he had a soft spot for the rat who had once called his called his shoulder home...for a whole 2 minutes while his owner did cartwheels. “You ever need a babysitter for Neptune, you let me now”. | |

Quinn froze for a fraction of a second, before turning back to Reese. She studied him, quite like she always did, but this time it seemed more inquisitive and intrigued. "You have foxes? What are they like?" And, wait... "Really? I'd love to meet them!" Oh and the whole fact you just invited her over wasn't lost on her either, Mr. Reese Prichard.
Quinn was having a very hard time not smiling suddenly. And there likely wouldn't be any issue with it. Her parents probably wouldn't even be home over Christmas Break. It'll likely just be her and Keesey, as usually, and Christmas Eve and Day with the Greyvsons. That was a bit of the upside to being invisible to your own parents. Rarely did Quinn actually have to check with them about doing anything.
Quinn had been so focused on Reese and his foxes and that invite to his home, that she discovered, upon turning back to to look at Tobias, she'd missed him actually catch the mouse. It was currently half in his dislocated jaw; the tail and hind legs already motionless.

Reese nodded without hesitation.. " Mhmm.. They're intelligent and have amazing memories.. Normally they aren't a pack animal, brought they were raised as a litter of kits.. Which is not to say they don't rove off on their own at times.. But we're a family.. Me and my foxes.. They got me through a dark time last year when Ry came to Hogwarts and I was left on my own..", he said as he shared a bit of himself with her.. " I know it sounds silly and all, but... She's my best friend.. And she's my sister.. In case ya haven't noticed, I'm not so great at makin' friends around here.. It wasn't no diff'rent back home either..".
He was beaming before he knew it when she accepted his invitation to hang out over Christmas break and meet the foxes and she'd be able to meet Rian and his nephew, Saros! " Yes!.. Seriously.. It's gonna be the best time! ", he exclaimed.
Then he noticed her focus had shifted and she looked slightly bummed out.. Oh.. They'd missed the main event.. Oh well.. They were talking and all and he was sure he'd be there for plenty more feedings for dear old Tobias.

Quinn nodded along. It didn't sound silly. "No, I understand. It's hard when you're not used to being alone." She paused for a minute, as if debating something really quickly. "It's hard even if you're used to being alone. I... I was in the hospital alone for about four months before Beth learned where I was and came to visit. It was horrid. For a bit, I honestly didn't care if I survived or not..." She didn't look up at him at all. She wasn't trying to compete or anything, just point out that, even if you're used to being alone, finding yourself even more alone can be truly devastating. So, no. He wasn't being silly at all.
"I don't have a lot of friends either, you know." Of course she preferred it that way, unlike him from the sound of it. "I don't think it matters how many friends you have. It's a quality over quantity thing, I suppose." She didn't have many friends, in large part because she tended not to like many people and wanted to avoid them. But also, it didn't matter to her. She had friends like Beth Greyvson, who gave up a part of herself to save Quinn; like Octavia Loftbottom, who was hufflepuff through and through, and a pure loving soul that decided she was going to be Beth and Quinn's friends and didn't stop trying until she was, no matter what they'd put her through; Like Reese Prichard, whose presence makes her smile like no one else does, and who she was starting to suspect maybe she thought of as something a little more than friends; and Eria Lovecraft, who could be her long lost older sister with how alike they seemed to be and who seemed very, very protective of Beth and her.
Her friends were few, but she'd never trade them for any number of other friends. They, in her view, were some of the best humanity had to offer.
Finally Quinn turned and looked back at Reese, studying him yet again as was her way. "I'm looking forward to it." And if she were being even a bit truthful with herself, found it nerve-wracking at the same time.

Eria finished all of her homework and turned in everything in a timely manner...now it was time to spend the rest of the day in her favorite place. The barns and pastures were the most welcoming places in the entire compound and kept her sane most days.
Really any time she wasn't studying or reading almost she found herself with the animals. They made more sense than most of the people and they were far less stupid and judgemental.
Today was the day she always spent time with the Augerys first, every week. She had discovered, quite by accident, that the birds seemed to be cheered up by somber music. Ever since that discovery, she had made it a point to come entertain the creatures on a very regular basis.
Walking through the barn, with an acoustic guitar on her back, she spotted Quinn off-hand. Oh, copper mop was with her... She gave them a nod as she passed through and kept walking to her meeting.
The lanky she snake greeted each bird by name, speaking softly. Getting the bucket she normally used, she over turned it for a seat and checked the tuning of her acoustic guitar. Laying the instrument across her denim clad thigh, she slowly began to pluck a somber tune. Her eyes closed as she felt the rhythm and the lyrics started to spill from her lips. "I hurt myself today...To see if I still feel...I focus on the pain...The only thing that's real..." | |

Reese smiled softly as she didn't judge him for his closeness with his older sister. Most people usually did. And he wasn't all about making loads of friends.. He really dislikes humans for the way they hurt each other without provocation.. For no good reason except for to inflict unnecessary pain.. People as a species were despicable .
He listened in turn as she explained just why she understood his overwhelming loneness when Rylee had gone off to school.. And his little badger heart broke as he heard about His Raven Quinn's level of loneliness and he instinctively wrapped his long lanky arm around her shoulder and gave her a little side squeeze. " It's not that I want loads of friends... I'm rather happy with the ones I've made..", he assured her with a little smile reserved only for her.
Reese could tell, even with all their nervous energy, that she was really looking forward to visiting his home over the school break that was coming up soon.. " Me too!..", he said with a smidge of rose color tint to his cheeks.

Yeah? They're both younger years so it wouldn't be hard for them both to sit together on the same winged horse. Rylee laughed softly. "I don't think he's here right now but when he is, we can ask him." No, she wasn't. She wasn't the type to let anyone get hurt on purpose even if she disliked them.
This wasn't at all uncommon so calm down there. Rylee Prichard liked to skip and she liked to hum. "Awesome! Wait until you see them!" She looked over her shoulder to see him skipping behind her. And yes, she laughed. It was funny. "She's walking on fire!" She sang the next line throwing her hands up in the air laughing.
"Yes, yes and yes. Well not all wizarding families have these types of pets. Lots do have cats and dogs and muggles pets. Owls are common though, we use them to carry letters and deliver packages. The foxes... not everyone has those and they really have nothing at all to do with being a wizarding family." Rylee smiled warmly at his offer to look after Neptune for her if she ever needed him to. "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for sure."
Reaching the stables now she looked between the Kneazles and Crups. "Which ones do you want to play with first?" She cast a look over at Ewan. It was his choice.

Quinn's breath caught the moment she felt his arm around her and that little squeeze. It was nice and pleasant and Quinn had little clue how to respond, so she simply glanced around the barn a bit. She spotted Eria and returned the older snake's nod with a small smile, before turning back to Reese.
That smile of his brought out one of her own. And then, because she found it a bit hard to think right this second, Quinn looked away again, down at Tobias. The mouse was fully gone now, just the end of its tail sticking out of the snakes mouth, and a giant bulge still working its was slowly to Tobias's stomach. Interacting with her snake was finished for today.
"We should leave him to digest," she said. Quinn secured the snakes enclosure again and turned to Reese. "Tell me about what your home is like?" She was curious, and at the same time thought it wise to know what to expect when she visited.

Wait. Both of them sit together? He meant... *Blush* “Uh, yeah. That sounds good to me”. He wasn’t sure why he was blushing but it did sound like the best idea in all honesty. I mean, the one time he went on a normal horse, it didn’t go well. Not wanting to go into detail about it, he smiled at her. Grinned actually. Her laughing at him skipping was priceless. “Walking? She’s skipping on FIIIIRE!”. And with that last phrase...an idea began to take hold in his mind and it was genius. He already knew she would quiet possibly cry with laughter.
As he reached the stable now, he quickly made up his mind. “Has to be the crups!”, a smile spreading across his face. He missed his Annie a lot. To see a Crup? It was the next best thing. “Any advice on the crups? I know they’re not the same as Jack Russells”.

Since Wayland wasn't around she decided to let the topic of riding the winged horses drop and turn her full attention on the other creatures. The ones they could actually interact with right now. Well after she finished laughing that is. Rylee let him continue belting out the song while she just laughed now. It really was a good thing she had decent balance or she may very well have ended up on the floor and who knows what may have become of Neptune!
"To the crups!" Rylee laughed tossing her hand into the air. Advice on the crups. "Um.. well their really high energy but we should be fine since there's no muggles around. That would be a problem." As for Neptune, well she was making sure he was safe outside the stable in her bag which she would keep open on the floor out of harms way. "I recommend you sit.. or you might get knocked over." Some of them liked to jump up on people. Not that she minded it very much. "Ready?"

Wow this girl was hyper. I mean, he was hyper. He loved to sing randomly and break out into dance just to make people laugh but she just did it... just as much as him. Strange.
Tossing her hair? Was everything dramatic with her? Not wanting to be one upped, he reached back for his wand when her back was turned. With a small wave and flick towards his hair, it changed colour. “THIIIIIIIIIIIS GUUUUUUUUY IS OOOOOON FIIIIIIIIIREEE!!”. Tapping her on the shoulder now, he gave her a cheeky wink as she turned around...and then fell over again. This was his best idea every! He hadn’t seen his hair yet but...he knew he could pull it off. Sort of. Ish. Maybe. Possibly not. But that’s what made it funnier.
Still chucking on the floor, clutching his ribs from laughing too much, he beckoned at her, “Release the hounds!”. Being attacked by a cute little crup? He was born for this...."I'm ready!!!!!". | |

Hyper was a nice way to put it. She didn't mind. It wasn't like she was in lesson or anything. Just so they didn't startle any of the creatures. Which she wasn't doing. Singing wasn't a bad thing, she did it all the time.
Very intently talking about the crups was she until she was tapped on the shoulder. "Hm?" Rylee turned around just at the very same time as he belted out 'This guy is on fire' probably as loudly as he could! Was his hair bright red?! What in the name of Merlin was he doing?!
...
...
At first she did nothing. She just stood there. Then she laughed. It was almost as if it had to sink in or the entire thing had caught or by surprise that she didn't think to laugh. Only now she was laughing and she couldn't stop but she was also opening the stable door and there were the little crups coming for them. "Inside the stable.." she giggled plopping down onto her bottom inside the area where it was safe to play with the crups that were already jumping at them and yipping excitedly.

Okay so maybe going red for the day wasn’t the most flattering of looks but hey, it was so worth it. Laughing even harder now at her expression, he leaned back until he was flat on the floor, his body still convulsing with laughter. Despite her obvious shock, he knew that when it sunk in, which it did, she’d giggle. And so she did. VICTORY!
And it was because of this laughter that he had temporarily forgotten the prescience of the crups! He knew now though, as the first of the crups bounded up to him, the crups paw landing heavily on his chest. Breathing out heavily now as it looked down on him, both paws resting on his chest, he couldn’t help but smile. From certain angles, it certainly did look like his dog back home. “Well hello there”, his voice slightly louder than a whisper due to his lack of breath. Reaching up slowly, he confidently moved his hand through the chocolate brown ears of the crup, rustling its fur softly. Despite the hardness of the floor, he couldn’t help but feel more at home here. That was, until the crup decided to give him a slobbery lick across the face. “Hey, come on now you!”, his voice full of a fake anger, he chuckled and nuzzled its nose.
“Heey, Ry, can I keep this one?”
Turning now, his face looking younger, he smiled at her, the red hair long forgotten but ever present.

Her own laughter was nothing compared to the boy laying on the ground. How either of them could even talk anymore let alone breath was beyond her with the way they were laughing this morning.
Laughter soon faded into smiles as they were surrounded by crups. Wagging tails, paws and cruppy kisses to the face. Rylee caught glimpse of Ewan with one of the crups standing on his chest and she had to laugh. "One of them did that to me last term! Literally knocked me right over backwards when he jumped on me," she told him with a giggle and wide smile on her face. The crup she just so happened to be playing with had made it's way onto her lap for a belly rub.
"I don't think so? You have to be a certain age to adopt one. You can come in here and play with them all the time and help take care of them." That was almost as good, right? At least until he was old enough to actually adopt one himself? Or maybe he could talk to Wayland about adopting one somehow?
