Mission 3:Your story is about yourself, a muggle, attending your favorite character's wizarding birthday party.
995 words. ^^ It was the most bizarre and wonderfully magical thing I had ever done. And it all started when I picked up this small letter.
Birthday Time! Remember, this is a surprise, so don’t tell anyone!
You are cordially invited to attend the festivity to celebrate the 35th birthday of our beloved Sirius Black!
“Someone must have dropped this…” I thought as I continued walking, reading the remainder of the letter.
…Be sure to memorize the address!
“Number Twelve Grimmauld Place, London?” I asked myself aloud. I had never heard of it. But as soon as I had spoken it, the invitation burst into flames. I threw it down on the ground and stomped it out.
Curious as I am, I walked up to the man nearest me and asked him for directions. I got laughed at. Quite irritated, I walked around until found this odd looking family with one rather large, round boy, and one tall thin boy with glasses. I don’t know why, but I asked.
“Excuse me…” I said as I walked up to him, “but have you heard of a ‘Twelve Grimmauld Place’? I’ve…been invited there this evening and I need directions.”
He stared at me, blinking his large, sparkling green eyes.
“Yes, I have. You-“ he paused, “you got an invitation?”
I nodded. “Well, I had one, but it caught fire after I read it.” This seemed to confirm to him that I did in fact receive one. Whether it was actually for me or not, I didn’t tell. I was far too close to finding this mysterious place.
“Well, great. I can take you there if you like. My name is Harry.” he said with a smile. “I’m on my way to buy a present. Would you like to join me?”
With curiosity, I agreed. I followed him and the odd family to this rather run-down looking shop. The man waved his fat finger at him, “You’d better be back by midnight!” he threatened. He rubbed his finger across his mustache nervously as he grabbed the boy’s chunky wrist, put his hand around the woman and ushered them away quickly. The thin boy just looked at me and gave an apologetic smile. “Nevermind them. This way.” he said he opened the door.
I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had to have been dreaming. There were…people, everywhere. But it must have been some sort of party, for they were dressed up as if it were Halloween. “Is…is this Grimmauld Place?” I asked, captivated by the surroundings.
“No, this is the Leaky Cauldron.” he asked, giving me a look as if I should’ve known better. “I’m going to get him something from the Weasley’s shop.” he said with a mischievous grin.
“Oh, right. Good idea, Harry.” I said, pretending that I knew what he was talking about.
We went in a very loud, flashy shop with gadgets, noisemakers, and these adorable little pink fluff-balls called 'pigmy puffs'. Harry even got me a sugar quill to taste. After Harry payed with 10 ‘galleon’ things, we walked out into the busy street. What did he say it was? Oh yes, Diagon Alley. We exited through the dim, Leaking Pot place and back into London.
We walked for a while without a word. I don’t think either of us knew what to think. I of course, in utter shock and amazement, just had to find out about this Place. If these other places I had been to was so amazing. How much more so a place that no one was supposed to find? My excitement grew with each block. And then, we stopped.
In front of the most foreboding, and creepiest building I had seen in my life. I had passed by this very spot plenty of times. I was sure I would have noticed something that ugly. But after what I had seen already, a house appearing where it shouldn’t did not surprise me.
“This is my godfather’s house.” he said with a smile.
We walked in through the massive doors and I couldn’t believe my eyes. The inside was bright, and cheery. There were plenty of people laughing and talking, especially this friendly red-haired family, and a pink-haired girl with a ‘Weird Sisters’ shirt. The Mr. Red-head, Weasley I believe, seemed very intent on asking me the strangest questions. “Do you have a car? What about a toaster oven? A house elf?” The whole event fascinated me. So this was Grimmauld Place. As I turned to get some more to drink, I bumped into this tall, disheveled looking man. Despite his scruffy appearance, he had this gleam in his eye. And when he smiled, you couldn’t help but return it.
“Sorry miss…” he said, giving me a wary look, brushing some confetti out of his eyes.
“Amber. From London.” I said. “I…got an invitation so Harry brought me here.”
“Ah! So you’ve met my godson.” he said with a loving smile. I blinked in realization.
“So you’re Sirius Black!” I said happily. I finally met the man this whole party was for. But my realization was returned with a heavy silence across the room. Everyone seemed to be staring at me.
“You’re not from Hogwart’s, are you?” he asked. A light-haired man with some scars on his face walked up next to him.
“From where?” I replied honestly. The man with the scars whispered something in his ear. I acted like I didn’t notice everyone staring at me. “Well…happy birthday!” I said enthusiastically. He started laughing, and everyone joined in. What was so funny? Someone handed Mr. Black a drink, and he handed it to me.
“Well, thank you for coming.” he said with a charming smile.
“No prob.” I said as I took the drink. I took a sip, and everything began to fade away…
When I woke up, I was in my bed. It’s all true. But I haven’t told anyone. After all, if I told you, would you believe me?
