Hey! Sorry it’s been taking me forever to respond to a post, but I promise I’m working on that. As most of you know, I’ve been home lately because I had surgery for appendicitis. But now that I’m feeling better, I’ve decided to post. I’m trying to post more often, but it’s been hard lately. So here’s the next post, I don’t think it’s that good, but my creative streak has been downhill. And I sort of rushed it a bit, because I’m really excited about the next post. And also, I’m sorry that it’s only Ginny’s part… but I wanted to post for you guys, but I ran out of time! Ack!

Ginny

The carriages stopped and I bolted out before Luna or Neville had the chance. The first look at the castle gets me every time. It’s beautiful! I looked around for any of my friends, and guess what I see. Of course… a pair of gorgeous green eyes covered by a pair of wire-rimmed glasses, underneath a patch of messy black hair. Merlin, he’s handsome!

I looked away quickly and continued to walk up the steps into the Entrance Hall. The smell of the delicious food filled my nostrils, and I hastily walked into the Great Hall. I was one of the first ones in there, but I didn’t care. I was hungry!

I sat down at the Gryffindor table and waited for someone to join me. Luna traipsed in with Neville and walked right up to me. Oh great! Don’t get me wrong, they’re very nice friends, but they’re not the same as Hermione or Harry.

“Hey Ginny, you must be hungry,” Luna noted. Well, of course! I practically ran in here!

“Just a little,” I said simply. Luna sat down across from me and Neville sat next to me.

After a moment, more students filed into the Great Hall, including Hermione, Harry, and Ron. I noticed Harry look at me for a moment, but then Ron drew him back to his attention. Ugh! Stupid Ron!

Then, Professor Flitwick walked in with some nervous looking first years and the sorting was about to start. He conjured up the three-legged stool and a ratty old hat, placing it on top of the stool. The ripped brim opened up and the Sorting Hat began to sing.

Times have changed, we're all aware
We have a new leader as well
Dark times do lie ahead
So the past we should not dwell
Open your eyes and you will see
A darkness laid upon us all
But do not fear, our hero is here
Ready to fight when we call
Though you are here to be sorted
And sorting is what I shall do
For the houses are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw
Hufflepuff and Slytherin, too
Slytherins are the ones of course
Whose ancestry is purest
The Ravenclaws are the ones
Where intelligence is surest
If you should be in Gryffindor
Then you have braveness in your name
The others would be in Hufflepuff
Where they're treated just the same
So I am here to sort you
As you have listened to my song
Remember as I split you up
I think this sorting is wrong
We all must unite here as one
Or we'll crumble from within
I have warned you that danger is coming
Let the Sorting now begin...

An applause broke out from the entire Great Hall. I applauded extra loud. That song was the best yet, and was completely true. Though, I’ll bet anything that half of the students here didn’t understand it.

“Now, when I call your name, you will place the Sorting Hat on top of your head and wait to be sorted,” Professor Flitwick squeaked. “Once you are sorted, you may join your table.”

I loved this part!

“Arthur, Michael.”

A short little boy with chubby little cheeks and dark brown hair walked up to the front, his legs shaking uncontrollably. He sat down on the stool and placed the hat on top of his head. It covered his eyes and half of his face, causing me to giggle slightly.

A small silence approached and then, “RAVENCLAW!”

A huge round of applause broke out from the Ravenclaw table, and the boy ran over there, looking relieved.

The sorting continued, ending with ‘Zabini, Jade’ being sorted into Slytherin. No doubt that was Blaise’s little sister. Then, Professor McGonagall stood up and called for a silence.

“May I have your attention please?” she called, waiting for the silence. “Thank you. As you all know, this year is going to be a bit different. With the loss of the Headmaster Dumbledore, we are in a right state. Security around the school has been modified and added. You are safe here. Please, go along with the school year as usual.

“The same rules apply. Entry into the Forbidden Forest is forbidden. No student is to be out of bed after nine o’clock at night unless under permission of a teacher. No student should be alone after dark. And, under no circumstances, should you leave the school grounds. Trips to Hogsmeade are still being questioned, but we will let you know if it is safe or not.

“I would also like to welcome our new teachers to the staff. Professor Hanson will be taking over Transfiguration.” An overworked looking lady stood up. She had light gray hair that was pulled back into a bun, like McGonagall’s. She looked old and frail, with a stern smirk on her face. A small applause broke out for her. “And Professor Illiad will take over the Defense Against the Dark Arts as well as Gryffindor Head of House.” A tall, broad man stood up and took a small bow. He looked fairly young, yet very strong. He had dark brown hair and a young, fresh face. With the appearances of an Auror, he looked to be fitting for the job. Odd, though. I thought McGonagall would choose the old lady to be the Head of House. Again, another small applause for him. “Professor Slughorn has agreed to stay another year for Potions and has generously taken the spot for Slytherin Head of House.” A fairly decent sized applause broke out from Slytherin. “And now, you may eat.”

Food appeared instantly on every table, but suddenly, I wasn’t as hungry anymore. Everything McGonagall said ran through my head a million times. I mean, of course we’re in a right state because of Dumbledore. If he hadn’t left, then everyone would feel a lot better. And safe? Please. All the teachers have been saying that for years, and I still haven’t found one year in which we were safe. Personally, I find it impossible to go along with the school year as if everything were fine, considering the fact that… it’s not!

And Hogmeade… how could they be questioning that?! It’s the only time that students get to take a break from school. And possibly the only time I get to be with Harry… Wait- nevermind!

“Ginny? Why aren’t you eating?” Hermione asked me. I didn’t even realize that she came over.

“Oh… uhh… I’m not hungry, I guess,” I replied simply, looking down at my hands.

“But you just said you were hungry,” Luna pointed out. Yes, Luna, I know I did… but one can change their mind.

“Well, I sort of lost my appetite,” I said. I looked up at Hermione, who looked a little worried. Then, I stole a glance at Ron and Harry a few ways down. They were both looking at me, and again, with worried looks.

“I’m fine, I swear,” I told Hermione, looking back her way. “I’m just… uhh… really tired,” I added, which wasn’t completely a lie.

Hermione smiled weakly at me and then walked back over to Harry and Ron. I continued to stare at the food as it switched from dinner to dessert. I can’t believe that after a few words, I wasn’t hungry anymore… but it got me thinking. I hate it when that happens!

Once the food cleared, Professor McGonagall stood up again. “And now, you may adjourn to your warm beds and sleep. Goodnight.”

I jumped up immediately, making my way out of the Great Hall. I wanted to go to the Common Room… but I didn’t want to go to bed yet. I knew that I had to wait… and I think you know why too!
