I'm posting right now, as a matter of fact! Hermione sat in the Gryffindor common room, scribbling down numbers upon numbers for Arithmancy class. Ink was flying in all directions as she frantically jotted them down, her hair looking even bushier than normal.
When Ron trudged down the stairs, she didn’t even notice, and if she did, she didn’t bother to look up from her homework.
“Hey, Hermione,” Ron began, a pile of parchment in his hands. Then he shielded his face. “Arrgh!”
Finally the homework-addict glanced up. An ink-splattered Ron looked down at her.
“Oh, sorry, Ron,” she apologized hastily and with a wave of her wand, the mess was cleaned up.
Ron edged to where she sat and then finally sat down beside her. “Do you mind checking over my potions essay?” He glimpsed at her hopefully.
Setting down her quill once more, which was drooping tremendously, she eyed him. “You mean, re-write it for you?”
Ron yawned. “Whichever you want. Just help me, will you?” He stretched his long arms back and stifled another yawn.
Hermione gave him a suspicious glance but snatched the papers from him. “Fine,” she agreed, her eyes ricocheting back and forth as she read.
He just watched her. He liked the fire as it illuminated her face, her fiery but compassionate eyes, her ink-smudged hand as it crossed off misspelled words on his report. If only she liked him back. She had no idea how much he thought about her. Maybe if he just reached out to grab her hand…
His finger brushed her palm and she stopped, eyed him again for a moment, and went back to editing.
It was worth another try, wasn’t it? Ron was nervous, though. He was surprised she hadn’t seen that his forehead looked wetter than normal. With a shaky hand, he stretched over to…
“What are you doing, Ron?” Hermione asked sharply accompanied with an exasperated huff. What was he doing? He looked very odd all of a sudden.
Red to the tips of his ears, Ron pursed his lips, then muttered incoherent words under his breath.
“There we go, I’m finished,” she announced and crisply handed him back his parchment.
“Thanks, ‘Mione,” Ron said, standing up and stretching again. “Well, I’d better be off to bed. G’night.” He turned quickly so she wouldn’t see his redness.
“Good night,” Hermione replied, though she didn’t start working on her arithmancy right away. She studied Ron’s broad shoulders as he retreated. He was a curious one, never too smooth. But she liked it, she had to admit.
Ron turned around to face her again just before heading up the staircase, catching her staring at him. She hurriedly glanced down at her paper again and resumed working.
