Ottery lay in the tub resting his head on his hands as he floated on the water. "Thank God for company," he thought. He had just escaped a beating at his vicious aunt's hands. About anything really, he seemed like such a warm and caring person to the boy, if a bit too naive, and trusting. The Muggle had just eyed everything curiously. He was the one who interested Ottery more though. Namely because he wanted to ask him for a go in his car.
There was a knock on the window, Ottery said, "Come in," and Ruben was there at the window. Ottery had been expecting him. But first he'd had to have dinner, whenever Ruben's mother finally got her son in the house she did everything she could to keep him in. But, short of locking his rooms window, or chopping the tree that grew next to it, there wasn't keeping Ruben locked up any more than Ottery not when they didn't want to be.
"So what's with the car?" Ruben asked, and suddenly Ottery didn't know what to say. To his best friend of forever. It was just then that the prospect of going away finally hit him with some reality.
All summer long Ruben and he had been waiting for their owls from La Academia De Magias y Hechizos in Mexico City...it was the nearest magical school, unless you wanted to go to the states and neither of them wanted that. But Dumbledore hadn't said anything about Ruben being invited. Ottery thought it best perhaps to keep quiet about that, at least for now, while he thought about it.
"Oye Ruben. Let's go see David tomorrow?" He asked, sinking half his face in the water to make bubbles.
"All right. You want to take the horseless carriage?" He asked, a wicked smile on his face.
"It's the only way to travel." Ottery replied laughing back at him.

It was early morning, and there was a cloud of dust from whence a flock of chickens were flying, scrambling to get out of the way of what was causing the dust storm.
"Ottery! You sure you know...what you're doing?" Ruben asked a big smile across his face, his blonde hair whipping across his face.
"Of course I don't...but you gotta learn sometimes, no?"
Ottery was at it again. He had borrowed his aunts wand, and Mr. Ford's car, and a few experimental spells later he had managed to get the thing flying, driving and running forward all at the same time. As opposed to going in reverse, rolling over, and honking incessantly which scared the cows and woke up half the neighborhood. The boys had just managed to escape when Ottery's mean aunt came running out of the house brandishing a roller in her hand.
He knew he was in trouble. Borrowing his aunts wand without permission, borrowing Mr. Ford's car without permission, and (T: Well honestly Ottery, just being plain Ottery. O: Tell me about it.  I was there remember?) simply because she disliked the boy, it seemed. Discipline, that's what he needed, not love, but a strict voice, and a strong hand, both of which she implemented with equal severity and applied as often as necessary, which was, to her way of thinking, not often enough!
The dark haired boy smiled, chewing gum, his hazel eyes covered under the goggles he had found to keep the dust out of his eyes. Ruben was laughing with him, those chickens were dropping eggs as they were flying in a mad panic, it really was too early in the morning to be driving as fast as they were. Muggle cars of the time could not do more than 35 miles at most, but with help from a little bit of magic and the fact that it kept trying to fly off the ground, Ottery had gotten the old jalopy going 99 miles per hour. They were going out to see David and his father Jesse the old hermit, who lived as far away from Tocantins and people as he could get...much to his youngest son's chagrin. Every chance he could Ottery and Ruben would go out to see him, or kidnap him and bring him into town until trouble had him going back home. The dark haired boy wanted to see him...to talk to him too, as they were best mates as well. Going to Hogwarts or not was going to be a difficult decision to make, and he wanted time to think it over outside of his aunt's influence. She wanted rid of him there was no question of that...
"Ottery, the Cow!!!" Ruben yelled, waking his friend from his reverie.
"Santa vaca!" he yelled swerving the car.
"The bull, Otts, the bull!" Ruben screamed again tugging on his friend's arm as Ottery, in changing directions to miss the cow, was about to plow straight into the bull.
