Lissy, what can I say. You make me cry too. I'm just kidding. You all are too sweet, I've been kind of in the dumps lately...life's closing in on me and...cornered animals always lash out...so if I've been cold or mean to anyone here I'm sorry, you're the only one's who are my truest friends and I love you all, you all always care enough to try to make me feel better. I love you all for that. Somedays I need it more than others.

Everything was darkness and sadness and despair and all the world could go away because it would never change. Everyone loved the Baron, Wolfram despaired of ever being like his father. Even his enemies liked him. He wanted to escape the long shadow cast by that man, but he knew he never would, they had the same name, they had the same blood, and blast him they had the same curse. He was crying angry tears. He was finding it hard to breathe. He was so angry he was having to remind himself to breathe, he was killing himself because of the old man. Dam him, dam him and his blasted quests and his stupid goals, and his evil plans, he was his own person, he didn't need to follow everything the Baron had laid out for him. But if he disobeyed the old fool he would be left with what? Gone the inheritance and the happy easy life. But it wasn't such an easy life.

He walked into the chamber and found his father sleeping on the floor an empty wineskin next to him hardly the regal figure he knew the old man could impose. He wanted nothing more than to kick him. To knock him over and beat the fool senseless.

"Forget this," the younger Wolfram said. He walked out of the chamber. Let his father lose his precious prize right under his own drunken nose. He knew there would be consequences but at the moment they mattered very little. He wanted to go home. He wanted to go back home and feel safe and warm and loved. If only for a bit.

"Oh." Ottery answered, a little surprised. Dumbledore had mentioned that then, likely he had been thinking about something else when Old Wulfric had said that. He blushed to think what it was his mind had been on at the time. It hadn't been chocolate.

"This adventures getting old." Ottery exclaimed and walked past the kids, let's just get it and go, already." He made to grab the red scarab.

"Ottery DON'T!" Ruben exclaimed, but he was too late to stop his friend.

What happened next happened quickly. A momentary mistake that would change their lives forever.

An old cottage on a hill.

"Is that it?" The little boy asked. "Just like that and wham it's over?"

"What you wanted maybe a car chase?" The cranky old man asked. The children knew better than to take him seriously, he was always going off on a rant about something or other. It was hard to take the old codger seriously sometimes, blathering on about martians and his teddy bear as it were.

"No. But what happened to Ottery, viejo?" The little girl asked more diplomatically.

"Yeah, I mean, what happened?" Another boy asked, and the old man raised his eyes to see a group of children sitting around him before the fire, listening to his story.

He silently blessed them all for humoring a crazy old man and his lunacies, and he sighed.

"Did he have a happy ending?" A girl with short brown hair asked, sweetly.

The old man smiled at her, his saddest smile. She was dear to his heart. He could not lie to her, to spare her though.

"No. There were no happy endings for Ottery St. Catchpole. There were bright sparkles of happiness in his life," the old man smiled, remembering the soft melody from the music box, the angels, a cute and funny redhaired boy, and old friends, "but his life was a bittersweet symphony."

"Save the lectures old man, what happened then." An impatient little blonde girl asked, pouting with annoyance. She was obviously used to getting her way.

"What happened was that he had great adventures with his friends. He saw the world and he was happy when he could be. Now go off with you, I'm an old man and I need my rest." El viejo told the children. They knew they would get no more stories out of him. At least not on that day. When they were gone he walked over to his bed, where a frayed old bear sat waiting for him.

"You're a fool you know that," the bear said, it was not a question.

"I'm an old fool, and I'm tired." He lay down to sleep. In the silent evening, his bear hugged him goodnight.
