I am so glad to know that no camels were injured in the making of this last post. I mean, you were talking about car crashes and then you were in a car and I was like and ready to be all and you mentioned camels and I was really like *sigh* But everyone is ok, so I am like *sigh* I had no idea that camels were Rupert's favorite animal. Hmmm... He looks awfully cute in that sad scene. If he were sad due to camel death, it just seems to me that it might be sweet to make him feel better... Hmmmm...

There's no greater feeling in the world than being in love. None greater of course if not the feeling of having that love returned by the someone you love. (T: It's been said better Ottery O: I know but I can't remember by whom or I'd quote them... ) Suffice it to say it had not come unexpectedly to David, but rather had been there since he could remember. For Ottery, given more to bouts of mad passions...(T: Like that time you thought you wanted to be a painter O: That was serious Teddy ) and spontaneous emotions, it had come as a bit of a shock. This was not their tree by the lake (T: Actually it wasn't your tree by the lake yet either... O: Killing the Mood Teddy...Killing the mood *fires all the cannons at Teddy the cynic*) it was not a moonlit castle, or during a stroll in the gardens, it was a rather uncomfortable seat on the back of a truck--a spade was diggin into Ottery's back just then--in the middle of a hot, arid desert, (T: with camels O: Yes Teddy with camels). Love wasn't supposed to come like that...unromantically, but it had.

Still it was the best thing in the whole wide world. Ottery was looking at David and smiling in shock. He was the impetuous one, not his brown haired friend.

"Where exactly would you have us keep our camels?" The words were followed by the sound of laughter.

"I don't think you would want to be hearing the answer to that sir," the Egyptian guide said.

"We better see what's up," a blushing David said as he got up suddenly.

Ottery made to grab the boy's arm but he jumped over the side of the truck. He jumped after him and was greeted by a most peculiar sight. A camel was sitting in the middle of the desert, which came as no surprise, and a small group of tents that were likely the houses of the traveling fat man.

"You're not Egyptian!" Ottery said to the bearded fat man. "You're white...well I mean with a tan." Ruben smacked Ottery upside the head. "Ouch. Come to think of it...you used to be white too Guero." Ottery said to his friend, who promptly whacked him upside the head again. "Ouch. Hello you'd just hit me there!"

David rubbed the bump on Ottery's head, while Ruben gave him a seething look through slitted eyes. He was clearly not amused, only partly owing to the fact that what Ottery had said was true...he was sunburnt, covered in sand, and not at all happy being away from the comforts of home.

"Who's stupid idea was it to make him boss anyways?" Ottery was mumbling.

"You voted for him to be the leader Ottery, and you threatened me with tickles if I didn't go along, remember?" Ottery looked at David guiltily. "Be careful what you wish for..."

"Oh, I don't know. Some wishes are nice...even if they are a little unexpected." Ottery replied grinning wickedly.

As it turned out, the bearded fat man was German, the boys soon came to learn. A jolly old fellow, Ottery kept claiming was Santa Claus hiding out in the desert, and with the exception of the dark black beard he could have been right. They were all seated on cushions around a fireplace in the cold desert night under a clear sky full of starlight, as he told them why he was there. The boys however were more discreet about their ultimate destination or the reason for their journeying so far from civilization.

"So you're just wandering then?" The old gentleman asked, as he took another sip of wine, which he offered to the boys, who declined. Ottery of course had held his hand out for some until Ruben had whacked him again, and he was resting with his head on David's lap as the old gentleman questioned them good naturedly.

"No. We're traveling. Just...seeing the world really. There's nowhere we need to be and nothing we need to be doing." Ruben answered adroitly parrying the curious gentleman's questions with half-truths and evasions.

He invited them to spend the night in a free tent, and the boys gladly accepted as it they could not magic the truck out of the sand with so many muggles around.

The following day, the boys bid the German gentleman farewell, though Ruben was sure it was not the last time they would see him. There was something about the fat man, his lack of curiosity, his willingness to so easily buy their story and just all around disinterest that automatically rang alarm bells in Ruben's mind. Ottery however was distracted with more...earthly matters.

So it was with a lot of distractions, Ottery and David giggling mischievously and Ruben whacking Ottery upside the head that they finally got the truck out of the sand and they were on their way in the early morning. By midafternoon, the guide had led them to their destination. Before them where three excavated pyramids. The boys were lying on the ground behind a sand dune above the excavation site watching the workers digging out the larger structures and trying to keep from being seen by the muggles.

"So how are we supposed to get in there?" David asked as he swatted Ottery's hand away.

Ruben was looking through the omniocculars watching the archeologist sitting under a tent, with electric fans powered by car batteries and sitting at a table drinking wine while they talked about the artifacts they had unearthed. The Scarab was not on the table.

Can't think up a name for the German fat man...will have to come back. Me and the German.

Me and my strange travels... I've been on a number of digs in NY Mostly Long Island, cus I lived there! We have plenty of Native American sites, it was very desirable land back then too... and then the Europeans came and decided they liked it too . We also have lots of historical sites - old houses of colonial type people and such Where I live now - near Lake George - are some very famous battle grounds, ever see The Last of the Mohicans? Anyway, not my focus in Archaeology, I liked to study Africa and early humans. I went on my most exciting dig to South Africa. The southern-most tip of the continent, in a cave on the coast. Three months! That was an experience!

I love Egypt and I've been there too, but not on a dig. I admit though... Indy does make the profession more attractive

Ahhhhh... I've rambled enough!

I've sat here for over an hour, actually more like three, doing other things of course... not just staring at a blank screen. I don't know what the devil my problem is...seriously, it just isn't happenning, I put up a request for a siggy, uploaded pics, cleaned up my files...yeah, this isn't happenning right now. I'm really sorry everyone. Like I said, I won't give you all crap. Sorry.
