"I can't believe he asked them to join. I mean seriously, what was he thinking?" Ottery complained as he paced up and down the empty tower room. A floor above would have been the roof had it not been destroyed by a stray German Fighter that had been blasted out of the sky by the Muggles on it's return to the Reich. It was the uppermost room of the Dark Tower and one the Professor had been kind enough to enchant to make it invisible to outside prying eyes. Even other professors. The off-limits sign kept most of the curious at bay, and should anyone prove too interested, there were rememberance charms and forgetfulness charms on the stairways up.

"One's a midget prat and the other's a..."

"A bit more than you can handle?" David asked. He was sitting on the broken stones that had been the wall of the tower, dangling his feet off the side precariously. Being an metamorphmagus meant you didn't have to worry about little things like falling off your broom, or even needing a broom at that.

"I can handle Mel just fine," Ottery said, walking away from his friend to look at the moon shinning over the lake.

"She's in love with you, you know..." David said quietly.

"I mean seriously. That redheaded, freckly faced little imp is supposed to be some kind of expert what? Distraction? That's what I'm here for? I distract the bad guys, I'm the noise maker."

Ottery was insistent on ranting, so he most likely hadn't heard what he had just said. David sighed, and let it slide. It was a talk best left for another day anyways. He was afraid, as always, how Ottery might react.

"He's not telling them everything, either. If he tells them...if...if Wulfric..." Ottery was clearly angry, but less obviously, something only someone close like David or Ruben could see, he was scared, he felt cornered and trapped and he would lash out like a cat backed into a wall. They had seen it too many times. In desperation Ottery was dangerous.

"Ottery, calm down." David said running over to his friend. "Dumbledore isn't going to tell anyone more than they need to know. You already know this...calm down, mate. Seriously." He was looking at Ottery's light brown eyes with his own darker ones, which complimented his light brown hair.

"It's all my fault. It's all my bloody fault," he was saying as angry tears rolled down his cheeks.

"What is? What are you on about?" David said.

"You, Ruben, me...it was my stupid...I made the...I never should...have...made you come, with me to Britain, all those years ago."

"As if you could have stopped us," David answered smiling sadly, the flicker of long lost days passed by. "I wasn't going to let you leave forever. I think I would've died."

"And look what it's gotten you? Nothing but cursed and..." Ottery said looking away. He wanted to jump off the tower to a swift death, but he had much to attone for first. It would be cowardly to leave that way.

"Ottery, shut up."

"It's my fault. It's my sin. It's my responsability, don't you understand? Ruben's right to hate me, so are you...if you ever could. Because of what I did to you. It's not...anyone else's burden. It's mine."

By now you're all wondering what that burden is? What the curse is? Where's the bloody car chase? :evillaugh As soon as I figure these things out I'll let you know...gah this is getting angsty...hmm...must insert humor...and action now *sighs*

Ruben woke up to find Ottery lying curled up next to David on his bed again the following morning, the Teddy Bear sitting on the floor with the same grumpy expression that it always seemed to have. He wondered what Ottery had ever seen in such a pugnacious, sour-looking stuffed animal, Ruben had never seen anything like it in all his life. Exactly how was that supposed to be conforting to a child? Maybe that was the reason Ottery always had his nightmares (T: Blame it on the bear sure. Not that evil witch of an *smacks* O: No Teds...no *glomps Teddy*)

Egypt 1920

(T: You haven't confused your readers enough already? O: C'mon...I've got the smartest readers on SS. T: Because they read your story? O: Obviously )

The desert was searing, the sun a large blazing yellow orb of heat pinned in a cloudless sky raining it's light over the dunes of sand which were the only thing that could be seen in any direction for miles. The little Ford truck was doing all of twenty miles through the thick sands bouncing up and down over the dunes as their Egyptian guide expertly manuevered through the unmanueverable (T: *smacks Ottery* Did you spell that right? O: I don't know... ). In the truck Ruben was chatting away with the driver, under the effects of the spell that Dumbledore had taught him to speak other languages. The Egyptian man assured Ruben that the truck was loads better than camels since trucks did not bite you, spit on you, or were stubborn about when they wanted to go or not. Just the same Ruben did not like the idea that they could be sunk in the desert under the weight of the large metal truck, which was to say nothing of their running out of fuel. In the back, on the bed of the truck, surrounded by supplies and sitting cozily their backs to the trucks cabin.

"I can't believe you kissed him," Ottery complained, pouting and refusing to look at his best friend.

"For the millionth time Ottery, I didn't kiss him, he kissed me." David replied blushing a little.

Ottery turned on him almost snapping his neck with the quickness of it. "Ouch," David smiled a little but bit back a giggle, it wouldn't do to tempt Ottery's temper he didn't relish the thought of his friend not wanting to talk to him. "So, you let him. It wasn't like you were trying very hard to stop him, was it?"

"Ottery it was by surprise, and you were there too, why didn't you defend me?"

"ME? HOW IS THIS MY FAULT?" Ottery screamed going hysterical.

Ruben tapped on the window, and the boys turned to see him smiling at their Egyptian guide, but when he turned to look at them he gave them a warning stare. Ottery stuck his tongue out, crossed his arms and turned away, not looking at Ruben or David.

I've only done it a year and a half now and I already lost count of how many I've seen. But I could see you teaching them when they get older. You have that way about you! And that is very meaningful - and no blood (hopefully)!

When last we left our intrepid heroes...trouble was ensuing...the dramatic kind...

"I'm not saying it's your fault Ottery, but it isn't mine either. I didn't ask him to do anything, this Wolfram fellow."

Ottery however was not talking. He was angry, and jealous as you could be. The Slytherin had gone and done exactly what he had been planning only he had been quicker about it. Ottery was not angry at David, but he couldn't very well admit that...and he was angry and he needed someone to take it out on and...well...David had the misfortune of being the one there.

"How much longer do you think 'till we get there?" Ottery asked, before the other boy could say anything else on the matter. He was changing the subject his way of saying it was done.

"I dunno." David answered quietly wiping his eyes. Ottery missed that, as he was busy wiping his own eyes.

"So how much longer is it to the pyramids?" Ruben was asking the guide.

"Well, they should be just over this next dune sir."

"Great, I need to get out. We've been sitting in here for hours now and my legs are starting to cramp up and..." Ruben was cut short as they drove over the next dune the guide had to swerve quickly to avoid hitting a camel (T: Chicken! O: I can't hurt Rupert's favorite animal T: Gah Ottery you're such a sissy... O: ).

"Holy camel," the guide screamed.

"What the devil's going on...whoa," Ottery said as he fell on top of David. "Serves me right for trying to stand up in a moving vehicle."

David for his part was blushing.

"Don't smile at me like that I'm still angry at you," Ottery said, smiling himself.

"Who's stupid idea was it to put camels in the desert?!" Ruben yelled as he jumped out of the truck and slammed the door.

Ottery and David broke out laughing. Mid laugh, David and Ottery stopped to smile at each other, and David kissed Ottery.

"Where exactly would you have us keep our camels?" A fat bearded man asked, laughing at Ruben.

"I don't think you would want to be hearing the answer to that sir," the Egyptian guide said suddenly, watching Ruben, who was standing there his white robes flapping in the soft breeze.
