Padfoot! Hi! I didn't know you were reading! I have slowed down the amount I post now. I know I post too much sometimes, but some people seem to like it long. It's because this fic is already finshed. If I was posting as I wrote it would be much slower, like my other fic. (which I'm currently stuck on).
Glad you're enjoying it!

Hey! You're doing a really great job! I started reading before I registered onto the site, (a few days ago). I can't wait for more! :) PAMS!

:woot: New reader! You read this fast! A great big welcome to the story! I shall post more tomorrow probably. Glad you like it! The prequel is "A Tale of Two Houses" which is also posted on here. There is a sequel but I've only written a couple of chapters so far. There is also another prequel: "The Private Inner Eye", but I will not start posting that until this is all posted.

That's a time-old question that Physicists are constantly debating. Some believe that the event would become isolated and the rest of the world carries on without them as though they had never existed, and some believe that the whole world goes into a timeloop. But since timeloops are only a theory (supposedly, along with wormholes) no one really knows. I'll leave it up to your imagination.

In the case of the story, I go with the first theory. Someone wanted to either destroy Ron or wipe them all from history. But they messed with the fabric of fate initiating a loop. Fate stepped in and tried to stop the event happening the ony way it knew how.
Philosophers believe that time loops happen to "right a terrible wrong", where somethng happens that shouldn't have. But as I said, it's all theory.

Well, I said I was going to post today, so I shall.

The final part of the chapter follows this important bulletin:

"Emma Watson got a staggering 3 A's in her A-Levels! Well done Emma!"

In local news: Birmingham City council released a leaflet that supposedly had a photograph of the city skyline in it...until someone pointed out the photo was of Birmingham, USA...nice one, guys, duh!

In sports news: Great Britain is a pathetic 10th in the Olympics score boards.

Things are starting to heat up...

Chapter 19: part 3

In the beginning when the land was dark and men walked in blackness, a great spirit took pity of their souls and gave to them light. For Yana knew a man's soul was immortal and should not live in darkness. The father of man, Adarmadama grew concerned for his children however, as when their bodies grew old and eventually diminished to dust, their souls would become lost; drifting forever in the endless universe alone. He turned to Yana who had become fond of the Father of Man and made him a promise.
"When you and your children's bodies die and return to the ground, I will take your souls and keep them safe with me. They shall not become lost, they shall become with Me."
Adarmadama thanked Yana but he had another concern. He knew that not all souls of men were of the light. They were full of anger, hate and jealousy. He was afraid for his people. When he told Yana of this, Yana looked at the children of Adarmadama and saw that he was right.

"I am concerned too, my friend. Their souls are dark. They cannot become with me. They corrupt and destroy the light within themselves and others." He paused once more before continuing. "I have a gift for your children. I will pass my blood onto a chosen few, and they will have special gifts and talents, and these they will pass to their children. Every few generations a new child will be chosen for the gift. I do this not for you, Adarmadama, but for the good of the earth. They alone will have the power to maintain the harmony between the spirit of the earth itself and her creatures." Adarmadama was grateful and thanked Yana.

The class were all transfixed. Harry leant across to Ron and whispered.
"This is a bit like the stories they used to tell us at muggle schools, except all the names are different.
"Did you believe them?" Ron whispered back.
"I don't know. But the story must have come from somewhere." Ron shrugged.
"To be honest, I don't know. But it's a great story." Harry nodded in agreement.
"Professor, what does this have to do with Vampires?" piped up Hermione again.
"I'm just coming to that Hermione." Professor Hedwig grinned. Hermione had actually given up her quill to listen intently, though Harry could see she didn't think much of the story so far. He wasn't really surprised by that. Hermione was a logical thinker and he knew that she probably believed the tale to be simply a myth told to keep people in line.
"It's just some fairy tale." She whispered to them, shaking her head.

"Ages passed, and the children of Adarmadama lived happily together in harmony. Yana kept his word and when their souls left their bodies, he caught them and took them into the Universe with him.
The children of Adarmadama had become plentiful and soon Yana realised he needed some help. He called upon a young wizard called Krynd Sh'a to help him. Krynd Sh'a was a powerful and talented wizard, and one of the chosen children. Yana gave the boy the gift of immortality in exchange for his help. Yana gave him special gifts so that he could help catch all the souls and bring them to the Great Spirit. Krynd Sh'a was proud of his job and worked hard.
However, he was ambitious and soon found that he enjoyed his immortality as it made him feel stronger than his brothers and sisters.
His thirst for power grew with each year and soon the time came when he was no longer satisfied and asked Yana if he could have some of the souls for himself as he could feel the power of the immortal souls he collected and yearned for the power for himself. Yana however could see his greed and told Krynd Sh'a that a human soul could not be harnessed for power, only be nurtured and cared for. Krynd Sh'a was angry and decided that he would take power for himself at the first opportunity.

Another age passed. He began studying the people of earth and he noticed that some souls got lost and could not become with Yana. They were dark and tepid, often flowing with anger and jealousy. Some were destructive storm clouds others rank, deep pools of blackness. Krynd Sh'a found he had a kindred-ship with them and began collecting souls for himself: dark souls, festering in their own corruption. One day he came across a man called Hugo Dracus whose soul was so fiercely dark and angry that Krynd Sh'a was drawn to the corruption in his soul.

Now Dracus was a man of power among his people but he was evil and cruel. He enslaved the men from his village, forcing them to build him a great fortress, killing and torturing them for sport. When Krynd Sh'a found him, he was in a jealous rage.
"What is wrong Dracus?" he asked.
"I have power over everyone is this village. But I want a woman from the tavern called Khallindrae. She is beautiful but she hates me, and somehow she always manages to elude me. "
"Why does this woman hate you, Dracus? Women are attracted to power, she must adore you, surely." Assured Krynd Sh'a, an evil plan forming in his mind.
"She does not. Worst of all, she loves another."
"Then kill this man, and she will be yours." Suggested Krynd Sh'a.
"She will not." insisted Dracus.
"Well then, I say this to you. Go find this man, and kill him. Bring me his still beating heart and I will make Khallindrae yours."

But Dracus was suspicious.
"And what do you ask in return?
"I only ask that your first born child shall be given to me, and I will give them immortality." Dracus readily agreed and set off to find Khallindrae's true love. A new plan was forming in Krynd Sh'a's mind, and when Dracus returned with the man's still beating heart he had another proposal.
"Dracus, I shall make you immortal. But you must give me your soul in return." Dracus was overjoyed, and agreed immediately. Smiling, Krynd Sh'a went to Khallindrae and told her that her true love was waiting for her in the castle of Dracus. She went as told, and sure enough found her love standing in the courtyard. But unknown to her, the man was Dracus, whom Krynd Sh'a had disguised as Khallindrae's love. Khallindrae went with him.

The next day, Krynd Sh'a played a cruel joke on them both, and removed the mask from Dracus, so that Khallindrae could see who he truly was. Horrified at what she had done, she tried to flee the castle, but Dracus locked her in the great Keep tower and she was left there with his child growing inside her.

Unbeknown to Dracus and Krynd Sh'a, Khallindrae was a witch, and one of Yana's chosen, carrying his blood in her veins. Fearing for her child's soul she called to Yana for help. Taking pity on his daughter he freed her and in a fit of anger he went to confront his apprentice. Krynd Sh'a laughed and challenged the great Spirit Yana to a duel which Yana accepted and they battled for an age. The seas rose and fell as their spells hurried and tore across the storm-ridden sky.

When Dracus had discovered Khallindrae had escaped, he sent his army to find her, but to no avail. Khallindrae whose newly born son was a strong, healthy boy, returned to her coven. Together the coven was three strong, and protected each other from the armies searching for them. Dracus, furious at his failure to capture the witch took out his vengeance on her people, burning and terrorising the villages for miles around.
Khallindrae, tired of hiding and watching her people suffer decided she was going to confront Dracus and end the reign of terror. But Dracus was now immortal and no spell could destroy him. In a fit of anger she ripped his heart from his body and burned it with a powerful spell. Screaming in pain Dracus cried to Krynd Sh'a for help.

"Dracus, you ask of me so much, and I am in battle myself." But Dracus pleaded with him, and eventually, Krynd Sh'a made him an offer.
"I will give you life. Take some of my blood. It's power will pump the blood through your veins. You have no need for the heart this witch stole from you." Dracus thanked him and offered him anything in return. Krynd Sh'a smiled.
"Your blood, Dracus will grow cold. It will die and your body shall become weak." Dracus was terrified, but Krynd Sh'a had not finished. "Therefore you shall need new blood to survive. To survive you must drink the blood of an innocent and your strength shall be replenished once more, and the soul of your victim shall be mine." Dracus thought this over and eventually agreed.
"But you must be loyal to me, Dracus. To prove you are loyal, your first victim shall be your son, whose soul you promised me long ago." Dracus was horrified, but full of anger and in his insane thirst for immortality and power he agreed.

The deal was done.

Dracus went to seek his son who at this time was barely a young man, and an innocent. While the boy was sleeping, Dracus slit his throat and drank his blood. Almost immediately he felt strong and powerful and he saw that what Krynd Sh'a had told him was the truth. As promised the boy’s soul was handed up to Krynd Sh’a who in a fit of spite bestowed upon the lad the same cursed immortality he had given Dracus.

The Coven, upon this discovery swore they would avenge his death.
However when they found Dracus he was powerful beyond all their imaginations and they could not defeat him. But together they decided that his reign of eternal terror would be in pain and torment. Already without his immortal soul, Dracus was a shell and his only joy came from the morning sunshine rising over his kingdom. Khallindrae and her coven cast a powerful spell together and cursed Dracus so that if a single drop of sunlight touched his skin he would burn in terrible pain.

At last, and after an age of duelling, Krynd Sh'a was defeated, but Yana took pity of the dishevelled wretch and exiled him. As he was cast away, Krynd Sh'a swore he would return and create more creatures from dark souls like Dracus and vowed that one by one, he would destroy Yana's chosen.
Yana returned to earth to find Khallindrae and called her coven of three together, giving them a special purpose and gift. Handing them each a sacred amulet, he bestowed on them the task of protecting the world from the evil creatures Krynd Sh'a had created.

Krysta paused and Harry and Ron were speechless. Almost immediately Hermione's hand shot up in the air and Harry noticed the frantic expression on her face. Harry noticed Dean was practically on the edge of his seat with excitement.
"Yes Hermione?" Professor Hedwig asked, looking at the girl with a look that showed she understood something. Hermione lowered her arm and Harry thought she looked a little worried.
"What happened to them?" she finally asked. He voice sounded strange.
"The vampires?"
"The Coven. What happened to them?" Krysta looked at Hermione almost sadly and took a seat on the very edge of her desk.
"They…they died." A murmur spread through the class and Harry was confused. This wasn't a very good ending to the story.

"But they lived on, didn't they? They passed on their gift." Hermione babbled and Harry could tell she had worked something out in her head and was asking Krysta to confirm it. Krysta smiled.
"Oh yes." She said in a low, firm voice and her expression grew dark. "Every generation brought a new Coven into power."
"They were descended from the original coven, the original Sk'Natherra weren't they? Descended from Khallindrae." Hermione was beyond excited. She sounded desperate. Ron frowned and gave Harry one of his 'what the bloody hell' expressions. Krysta took a deep breath Harry could see their teacher was a little uncomfortable.
"Here." She said gently and handed Hermione a book that Harry was sure would fall apart if someone sneezed near it. Hermione accepted it and ran her fingers over the motif on the front cover. Harry couldn't see what it was but Hermione couldn't seem to tear her eyes away from it.
"Thank you Professor."
"This…will answer your questions."
"Will it explain?" she asked, looking up at Professor Hedwig with wide eyes.
"It will tell you what you need to know…the rest is up to you." Hermione nodded gently. The conversation at the front of the class had been quiet and only the few surrounding desks could hear it.

"Hey, Professor have you ever seen Buffy The Vampire Slayer?" called Dean from further back in the room. Krysta looked up with a grin.
"Mister Thomas, I'm afraid I do not own a television."
"Coz this it's just like your story!" Dean continued and Krysta smiled back at him. She walked further towards the back of the classroom where even the Slytherins seemed fascinated by their lesson though some of them wore dark expression and exchanged knowing looks. Some of them seemed to be looking over at the pale, hunched over figure of Draco Malfoy who kept his head down, like he was trying to make himself invisible. The lesson seemed to be tapering off and Krysta chatted with some of the students near the back of the classroom who were asking her more specific questions about blood drinking and ripping hearts out. Harry and Ron turned back to the front and looked over at Hermione. She was practically in a trance. She hadn't opened the book yet, she was just sitting there staring at it. And she continued to do so until the rest of the students had left the room.

They didn't find her for hours but when they did they weren't overly surprised to find her in the library. She didn't look up when they came in, or even when they sat down at her solitary table in a shadowy corner. Her face was literally buried in the book. Harry finally was able to get a look at the front cover. The emblem was a golden dragon, wings wide open across the cover. It was raised off the surface of the book and Harry stared at it in wonder. What did a dragon have to do with vampires?
"'Mione." Ron was the first to speak. To begin with she didn't look up. When she finally did she look like she's just had cold water splashed in her face. She looked around at her two friends as though she'd only just realised they were there.

"Hi." She said then smiled faintly.
"What is it, Hermione?" Harry asked, the dragon still catching his eye. She looked down at the book for a moment, hugging it to her chest. Finally she lay it down on the table and they boys leaned over it. The open page was filled with hand-drawn pictures and writing. A few moments examination told Harry that it was a journal.
"It's their story. What happened to them, and to the ones that followed them, to their heirs. It was passed on to their children. The talismans were a symbol of their link to the Great Spirit. It protected them." She spoke in narration and the boys listened to her voice intently as they studied the tales laid out before them on the ancient pages.

"I haven't read it all yet. It says Khallindrae died at the hands of Dracus himself. One of her coven escaped with the children. They grew up to take their places and so it always was."
"So they are all descendents of the original coven, the shacky natterjack thing?"
"Sk'Natherra." Hermione corrected nodding.
"What happens if the members of the coven don't have an heir?" asked Harry. Hermione flicked a few pages and they peered down at them.
"It has happened. Only one of the families of the coven is still of the original blood. Khallindrae's family in fact. The other members of the coven were killed before they could produce an heir or a daughter."
"So it has to be a girl? That's sexist!" cried Ron, then hid his face and Madam Pince glowered in their direction.
"Hell hath no fury, like a woman scorned." Hermione said quietly and Harry thought she probably had a point.

"So what happened?" asked Harry encouragingly. Hermione took a deep breath.
"Well it appears that if there is no heir to pass the burden onto, Yana chooses one himself. A newborn child is chosen on the eve of their death, and the gift shall be passed on. Of course the problem is that…no one can possibly tell who that child might be or where they might be. The new coven could spend most of their lives just trying to find each other again." She fell silent for a moment and the boys kept quiet, their heads swimming with thoughts.
"How did we end up with that necklace then…" began Harry then stopped dead. He suddenly realised that the question wasn't how did he end up with the necklace, but how did his Mother end up with the necklace? Hermione smiled and nodded.
"Don't quote me on this, Harry, but I think your Mother was a member of the Coven."

It was like a bomb dropping on them. Harry's heart skipped several beats as the impact of this new information tried to find a place in his knowledge. His eyes were wide in shock. He couldn't take it in.
"My Mother but…"
"It would go a long way to explain…You-Know-Who's fear of her." Hermione continued. Harry shook his head, though not in disagreement. It was too huge, too massive a thing to be thinking about.
"I…I always thought it was my father." He said quietly.
"Understandably. All you've ever heard is how powerful a wizard he was. But how much have you really heard about your Mother?" she asked, and Harry knew she was right.
"No one ever really talked about her." He agreed. He shook his head again. "I can't believe this, this is too…"
"Huge." Concluded Ron and Harry nodded.
"Why didn't anyone tell me? And why does Voldemort want one of the talismans? What use could it possibly be to him?" Ron shrugged and Hermione looked thoughtful, but eventually shook her head also.

"Well, Hermione I know you think a lot of her and everything, but it's about time Professor Hedwig gave us some answers." He said firmly and after a few seconds Hermione nodded in agreement.

He stood outside her room a little nervously. He liked the woman but he was still in awe of her. It was quiet in there. He couldn't hear any voices. Maybe she wasn't in. His hand hovered over the door unsure whether to knock or not. In a flash sense of determination he declined the notion to knock and burst into the room boldly.
"I need to talk to you about my Mother…" he announced loudly and confidently before stopping dead in horror.
Two figures sat on her desk. One was Krysta herself who looked up in surprise and panic. The other, to his disappointment was Professor Snape.

But this wasn't the reason for Harry's horror. He stared unbelieving at what he saw. Krysta's robe sleeve was rolled up around her shoulder and Snape was wringing a clear liquid onto it from a cloth he had twisted in his hands. Krysta's face was wrecked with guilt. She tried to cover her arm up but it had been too late. Harry had already seen it. He turned on his heel and tore out of the room in hate, loathing and the distinct feeling of betrayal; the image of the skull and snake burnt on her arm running wildly through his mind.

Haha aw poor Krysta. She's gonna have a super hard time getting Harry to forgive her this time around.

One thing I'm confused on: Harry says he always thought it was his dad. Does he mean he thought his dad was one of the Coven? Or that Voldemort feared him?

Chapter 20: The Betrayal

"I'm telling you it was a Dark Mark!" he screamed angrily. He could feel the blood rushing to his face. He struggled against Neville's grip. He was currently pinned up against the wall in their dorm. Ron was hopping around in the background not quite knowing what to do or make of the situation.
"Take it back Potter!" Neville yelled and for the first time ever Neville looked furious. Harry was beyond angry right now and he defiantly bared his teeth.
"I know what I saw Neville. Your friend's a Death Eater." He hissed and Neville shook him, a roar of anger escaping his curled lips. They were very mildly distracted as a group of people Harry couldn't see over Neville's shoulder crashed into the room and several voices all began speaking at once. Through it all he recognised Hermione's panicked tones.
"Neville what are you doing, let him go!" she cried and he felt Neville falter a little. But it only lasted a second and Harry was shoved back against the wall causing him to grunt. He was fuming, his green eyes a few shades darker than usual and seemed to be almost glowing with anger.

"He said Krysta was a Death Eater." Growled Neville and Harry heard several gasps.
"What?" that was Ginny. She sounded utterly shocked and confused. "Harry how could you say such a thing?" He couldn't see the owner of the voice but he knew it was Hermione again.
"Because I saw it and I know what I saw. She has a Dark Mark on her arm, and she's friends with Snape." Harry expected another outburst but didn't get one. There was only silence. He felt Neville relax and finally he managed to struggle free, staggering away from the larger boy he pulled at his robes, trying to put them back in place. He looked around at the people in the room angrily. He couldn't believe they were siding with Neville. Hermione and Ginny stood close together by Neville and Ron hovered uncomfortably in the middle of the room. The girls look horrified. Their eyes were wide and full of confusion.

"But she can't be." Ginny sounded like a child who had just found out that the Easter Bunny wasn't real.
"Maybe it wasn't real, Harry. Maybe it wasn't even a Dark Mark. Maybe you made a mistake." Hermione was shaking.
"I know what I saw, Hermione." He insisted. He couldn't believe they didn't believe him. He took one last look around the room. Fine. If they didn't believe him, he knew someone who'd listen. Pursing his lips in a livid scowl he swept out of the room, running down the stairs as fast as he could.

Harry stopped dead by the spiral phoenix staircase. The stairs were already open. Taking a cautious step onto the lower stair he moved slowly listening for any voices above. It was quiet. He continued his ascent carefully slipping through the door at the top silently and only then could he hear low voices.
"Even your tears can't heal it, Fawkes." The voice was gentle and dulcet, though it filled Harry with dread and anger. He couldn't see the Headmaster but he could see a large armchair with it's back to him. An arm clad in black was visible on the table in front of the chair and Fawkes sat calmly on the unseen person's arm: unseen, but not unknown. So she had beaten him to it. He ducked back a little when a more familiar voice was heard.

"I'm afraid only one thing can cure that war wound, my child."
Harry couldn't see Professor Dumbledore but he assumed that he must have been on the other side of the table in his usual comfy chair. He heard a sigh, a woman's sigh and Fawkes hopped off Krysta's arm.
"I guess you're right. Thanks for trying old friend." She spoke gently and warmly to the bird who chortled a little and ruffled his feathers apologetically, accepting the soft strokes she bestowed on his plumage.
"So unfortunate the boy should discover it in such a way." The Headmaster continued and Harry could almost picture the look he was giving her over the top of his half-moon glasses.
"Well I didn't know he was going to burst in like that. Severus feels awful. It was bad enough when they found out about him." She sounded exasperated. She'd told him the truth at least.
"The boy will understand when it is explained."
"He doesn't trust me, I think."
"Maybe, child, maybe. But there are others dear to both of you who can set things straight." Again Harry knew that knowing smile of Dumbledore's and almost felt Krysta's returned smile.

"Oh that's right, give it all to the dog to deal with." Came another voice and Harry gave a start as a hand clamped him firmly on the shoulder. He looked up guiltily but relieved to see Sirius.
"Alright there Harry, I'm sure you can eavesdrop much better up there." He said motioning to the raised landing and table at which the Headmaster and Professor Hedwig sat.
"Sirius!" cried Krysta, leaping from her seat. "Are you mad, what are you doing here?" She looked overjoyed but deeply worried. Sirius shrugged and let go of Harry forcing him into a chair.
"I was hungry." He replied as if that was answer enough for everything. The teacher rolled her eyes and Dumbledore looked up with concern as he clapped his hands. Sirius descended on the food that appeared on the table like a vulture.

"I hope you were careful, Mr. Black." Dumbledore said with a sly grin.
"Aren't I always?" he asked not looking up from the food."
"Hmmm." Krysta dropped back into her chair. She looked over at Harry who was in a bit of a daze.
"I think someone needs a explanation." She said gently. Whilst Dumbledore leaned back in his chair placing his fingertips to his lips in a pyramid shape and Harry folded his arms stiffly. He didn't know what to make of this scene at all. He watched silently as Krysta rolled her sleeve up to her shoulder and once more the ugly image of the dark mark met Harry's eyes. He couldn't take his eyes off it. It looked painful, swollen and red. Sirius looked up from his food in shock. He glanced worrying at Harry and then back to Krysta again.

"What are you doing?" he cried grabbing her arm and trying to cover it up. She shook him loose and Sirius looked round at Harry again.
"Harry it isn't…I mean…it is but…"
"Sirius, it's ok. Harry has already seen it. He had the unfortunate experience of walking in on Severus and me earlier." She tried to explain placing a reassuring hand on his arm. He raised an eyebrow and scowled.
"What were you doing with that…" he began in disgust then seemed to remember Professor Dumbledore was listening. "…with Snape." He finished pretending to study the food on the plate in front of him.
"He has a potion…" she began but was interrupted by Sirius's snort. She pulled her sleeve down again and frowned at the man in the seat next to her. "…it makes the swelling go down a bit. Both our scars have been inflamed recently…which can't be good." She said thoughtfully.

"So you're like him then." The three adults turned together to look at Harry who was sitting in his chair, rigid and expressionless.
"No she isn't!" answered Sirius raising his voice a little. Krysta's reassuring hand returned to his arm and Sirius seemed to calm a little.
"Professor Hedwig is not a Death Eater, Harry. Nor was she ever."
"Damn straight." added Sirius, smiling a little at Harry. Harry just looked a little confused in response.
"Then…the Dark Mark?" Dumbledore smiled and looked at the teacher in front of him.
"This is your story, my dear." He said with a little bemusement in his voice. Krysta smiled back a little uncomfortably before turning to Harry. She still looked guilty, in Harry's eyes at least.

"You know that your Father and Mother were aurors." She began and Harry nodded. She nodded slightly and paused before continuing. "And knowing Miss Granger's persistence, between you, you've probably put two and two together and got sixteen." Harry frowned a little.
"You probably know by now that your Mother was so much more than just a witch, Harry." Harry tensed a little. He was beginning to realise that the whole point of their vampire lesson had had double motives. She nodded when she saw his response.
"You Mother was a sister of Natherra." Krysta laid it out for him.
"The Coven." Harry concluded and Krysta nodded. Krysta paused again. She looked uncomfortable and unsure of what to say next. She looked at Sirius who simply offered her a smile. She reached inside her robes and from her neck produced an object that was all too familiar to Harry. The necklace was absolutely identical to his Mother's. She laid it on the table and he reached for it slowly and uncertainly. He examined it closely, his hands shaking. Eventually he looked up.
"And so were you." He finally breathed. Relief seemed to cascade into her features.

"I am the Granddaughter, many times removed of Khallindrae herself." She finally said and Harry's eyes widened in wonder and intense shock. With shaking hands he handed the necklace back to her and she took it, replacing it around her neck. He was completely void of anything to say. He looked at Dumbledore for any kind of aid but he simply smiled over his glasses. Harry swallowed hard.
"But…why that?" he asked, his finger pointing at her arm. She covered it up unconsciously, although the robes covered the evil looking scar completely. She was thinking carefully about how to tell her story, he could see that.
"He wanted…no…Voldemort…" she stopped again and he could see she was having great problems with this story. Her voice was shaky. "He was afraid of us. Of our power." She finally began after Sirius took her hand, holding it in his. Harry could see first hand how close they were. Why had he never mentioned her before?

"Voldemort?" he asked. She nodded, a bitter smile on her face.
"Only in the beginning. Before I was induced, before your Mother, before…before our third…"
Harry frowned when she paused again. Who was the third?
"My mother led one of the first strikes against him. They almost defeated him too. But he had become more powerful than they could ever have imagined. He had become so powerful, so quickly. They just didn't know what hit them. And then…he killed my mother." She stopped dead here as a tear of anger slipped down her cheek. Harry gasped slightly. "He was afraid of her…so he killed her."
An image flashed through Harry's mind. The panther, the stone alter, the woman who looked like Krysta and the dark figure that loomed over her wielding the dagger.

"I saw it." He gasped and she looked at him hard.
"What?"
He looked up at her and was surprised to discover that a tear had also fallen down his own cheek. Was this empathy?
"Your Mother…on the alter in the forest. He killed her there, didn't he? The dagger." He said, the words tumbling from his mouth as he imitated holding the dagger in the air. Krysta's mouth had fallen open with horror.
"You've seen through me." She gasped. "You've seen my dreams." Harry stared at her, dropping his hands onto the table. It was at this point that Dumbledore intervened.
"You've had other dreams of this nature, Harry?" he asked looking thoughtful. Harry swallowed and a slight feeling of guilt passed through him.
"Yes, Professor. The panther. And I feel like I'm falling, but I follow the panther and it leads me." Professor Dumbledore looked over his glasses at Krysta who was looking horrified.

"You were there in my mind the night Hermione was attacked. You followed me up the stairs when I healed her. You followed me in my dreams." Harry didn't understand her mumblings. He frowned and looked at Dumbledore questioningly.
"Perhaps, my dear, a demonstration would help explain." He suggested to Krysta who looked up a little dazed.
"Er…yes sir." Harry was surprised when she got up out of her chair and moved away from the table a few feet. Sirius leaned closer to Harry and whispered.
"I love it when she does this. She always put me and your father to shame." Harry looked at his Godfather with bewilderment.
"Don't scream." She warned with a faint smile. Before Harry knew what was happening his Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher had gone and in her place stood a sleek, powerful deadly looking panther.

Chapter 20 part 2

Harry's immediate reaction was to cry out it alarm and pull his legs up onto the chair, tucking his knees into his chin. He realised almost immediately that this was of course pointless. If a panther is going to maul you, it will do so.
Before Harry could even remember to breath, his teacher was before them again and Harry let his feet find the floor once more. He barely noticed that his breathing had been reduced to short, sharp rasping breaths and behind his glasses his green eyes were wide in shock. Finally he swallowed and watched Professor Hedwig return to her seat. He forced himself to swallow, as his throat had become suddenly dry.

"It was you? All the time?" she smiled a little nervously and Harry thought how ironic it was that she was nervous, when he was the one who had just found out that his teacher could turn into a deadly great cat at will.
"You killed Nagini!" he cried suddenly and she took a deep breath before nodding.
"And not before time." Muttered Sirius.
"You saved Ron." Harry added and the tone of his voice had lost the edge of shock and fear it had held.
"I think you'd agree he was worth saving." She said quietly. She looked away from his gaze for a few moments.

"But the Dark Mark?" He prodded gently after a while. She looked back around at him and He distinctly heard Dumbledore release a deep breath.
Whatever Krysta's explanation may have been, she never got to make it for to everyone's surprise a figure stumbled at speed through the entrance from the stairs and all three of the other occupants of the room seemed astonished when Professor McGonagall practically crashed into the table panting deeply, a look of terror in her expression.
"Minerva, what…" began Professor Dumbledore, only to be interrupted.
"Professor Dumbledore..." she began, clearly out of breath. She looked down at Krysta, whose chair she was leaning against. The witch in black instantly got up from her chair and supported her senior as though she were afraid the woman would collapse.

"Krysta, my dear, I'm so glad you're here."
"Professor, what…" a shadow passed across Professor Hedwig's face and she stopped in mid sentence. "Oh no." she finished. Harry frowned. Whatever it was that had happened, Krysta seemed to have sensed what it was.
"When?" she asked and Professor McGonagall took a deep breath before answering.
"Less than an hour ago. There was nothing…it was so fast."
Krysta stumbled backwards, her eyes wild with an emotion Harry couldn't quite read. She looked wild, haunted, terrified and furious.
"We can only assume that he succeeded in his…aims." Professor Dumbledore spoke calmly but even Harry could see the slight panic in his eyes.
"The reports say that none…none were left alive." Harry felt his eyes pop out of his head. What on earth had happened? What tragedy had claimed lives and who had been behind it?

"The first blow has been struck." Krysta murmured. Sirius covered the lower part of his face with his hands and closed his eyes. Harry couldn't hold back his tongue any longer.
"Professor? What's happened?" he asked gently. Krysta did not respond but he felt a warm hand on his shoulder and he looked up to see the Scottish Transfiguration teacher looking down at him. It was Professor Dumbledore however that spoke.
"The first strike in a pending war has been made."
"A war?" he asked. He was confused. "You mean Voldemort?" he asked. Krysta still stood a little distance away with her back to them, though at his question Harry noticed a slight snort from her direction.
"There are many evils in this world, Harry. And I'm afraid, He-who-must-not-be-named is only one of them." Harry's faced grew into a deep frown at Professor McGonagall's words.
"Something else?" he asked. "What happened?" his head was swimming with so many questions that he felt dizzy and disorientated.
"St Mungo's has been attacked." Harry couldn't hold hack a gasp at this news.
"St. Mungo's? The hospital? Who would do such a thing? How could a hospital pose a threat?"
"This wasn't about a threat. This was a statement. This was Dracus telling us that he's here and that he can do whatever he pleases…and there's nothing I…we can do to stop him."

"Dracus!" Harry cried causing everyone to stare at him. "You mean the vampire from the stories?" he stared around at each of the adults in the room. He couldn't believe his ears.
"I'm afraid they aren't stories." Professor Dumbledore spoke slowly. He was visibly trying to remain calm in a situation that would have others running for the hills.
"I know. I know it's just…it all seems like some fairy tale." It was Sirius's turn to laugh in response. Harry fixed him a little coldly.
"Well Harry. You could say your entire life is a little like a fairy tale, even by wizarding standards." Harry knew he was right in a way, but this? This was unbelievably big.
"Are you sure? Are you sure it's him?" he asked almost desperately. It was Krysta's turn to nod slowly.
"I'm afraid this had been on the tarots for some time. We just had no idea it would be so soon."
"And it couldn't happen at a worse time." Added Dumbledore looking hard at the boy before him. Harry knew what he meant by his comment.
"You mean Voldemort." He said and the Headmaster nodded.

"A bad time? This was no coincidence. Dracus has timed this perfectly. Now he has his little court jester back at his side."
"You call Vol…You-Know-Who a court jester?" asked Sirius with a slight sneer in his voice. Krysta moved close to the tall man and spoke in a low, cold voice.
"Compared to Hugo Dracus? Yes." Sirius held her hard stare for a moment then moved away and sank into a chair. Harry swallowed hard. He didn't like the sound of this guy.
"He's a vampire?" he asked meekly. Krysta turned to him.
"Yes. He is The vampire. The first. He has power and can command all other vampires. Not only that but a man of power in his lifetime: a landlord in a time when landowners ruled all around him. Now in the form he takes, he is the link between death and life, light and dark."

"It was his vampires that attacked the hospital then?" Harry asked, falling into a chair. He felt like he was in a dream as Krysta spun this tale around him. She nodded in response.
"A vampire is a hunter. Often they hunt alone, and they hunt to feed. Nothing more. Darkness fills the place where their hearts once beat. They hunt to feed, but they hunt for the kill. Their bodies feed off blood, and their twisted minds feed off the terror of their victims. They are the true children of Krynd Sh'a."
"Krynd Sh'a. The dark soul catcher, Yana's apprentice?" Harry asked and his teacher nodded once more.
"Dracus is Krynd Sh'a's puppet, though pride would never allow Hugo to admit such a thing. It is he who has led the armies to our gates. The vampires who once hunted alone now hunt in packs. As we stand here, Harry people are dying."
She held her hand out over the table and Harry gasped as a mist began to swirl densely in the air. Within the shifting shadows he could make out faces: terrified faces of people fleeing their homes. Men, women and children pursued by dark figures, crashing to the ground where their life force was drained from their bodies.

To be continued....
