Alrighty, so this is the sequel to Meet You Under the Moon, and my fourth fic. It follows George and Emily's third child, Ruthie, through Hogwarts (starting with fifth year because I don't have the patience to go through it all). This is kind of just an introduction into the story

“Ruthie Ginerva, are you ready yet?” George called up the stairs.

“Almost!” she called down.

“We’re going to be late,” George complained.

Emily laughed from the doorframe of the kitchen. “Calm down, babe, you’ll be fine,” she chuckled. George gave her a look before his face softened into a smile.

“Mmmm, did I mention you’re beautiful lately?” he asked with a grin. He walked over to her and pulled her into a hug. He kissed the top of her head as she chuckled lightly.

“Not in the past ten minutes,” she laughed.

“Huh, that must have been a record,” he said seriously. “Ruthie! Hurry up,” he yelled again.

“Georgie, everything will be fine,” Emily soothed as she kissed his cheek.

“I’m ready, I’m ready,” Ruthie said as she jumped down the stairs.

“Hungry?” Emily asked.

“One—I don’t think Dad would want me to. Two—I think I’ll just get something on the train,” she sighed.

“Okay,” Emily said quietly. “Have a good term, I’ll miss you,” Emily said as she hugged Ruthie.

“I’ll miss you too, Mum,” Ruthie sighed.

“Be happier, it’s your fifth year, and you’re a Prefect,” Emily said cheerfully.

“Right, yeah, can we go, Dad?” Ruthie said quietly as she made for the door.

Emily stared after her with worry. Ruthie had been down in the dumps lately but wouldn’t confide in her mother about it. George kissed Emily on the cheek and left the house to take his daughter to the station.

“MUM!” Emma yelled from the living room. Emily rolled her eyes—she knew that yell all too well.

“Be nice to your sister!” Emily said firmly as she cleared the table.


Ruthie sighed from her seat in Potions. She was, as usual, paying no attention to her teacher and staring dreamily at the blonde Slytherin in front of her. His back was to her as she memorized every strand of hair on his head. He fidgeted in his seat and Ruthie suppressed a giggle at how cute he looked.

He glanced behind him slowly, cautiously, and met her gaze. Ruthie felt her face get hot as her blush seeped from her ears to her cheeks. Scorpius Malfoy had caught her. Ruthie’s eyes immediately dropped to the floor as Scorpius turned back around.

“Nice job, Ruth,” Leslie amended. Leslie Jordan. Ruthie’s best friend gave her no sympathy. “Real smooth,” she continued.

Ruthie gave her a sarcastic look and stared at her textbook, which she, evidently, was supposed to be reading. The page was blank for all she cared. The only thing on her mind was the look he had given her as their eyes had met briefly. She couldn’t think of what it really meant. His eyes looked frustrated, annoyed even. She was obviously embarrassed, especially since he wasn’t in to her the way she was in to him. She sighed again, internally kicking and cursing herself for being so stupid to like him in the first place. It was absurd and ridiculous. And yet, it didn’t change a thing.

Ok, yeah, I just read through it speedy like and I did find something you might not like but, I think it's fine... It was a smidgeon short. But I don't think it matters. Characters were introduced, and a foundation was layed, and possibly a plot forming. A little early to tell though. So, all in all, I stick with my first evaluation. It was great. Can't wait for your next chapter.

Not paying Attention-sounds like me in maths! Scorpius Malfoy- what a hotdog! I was thinking at the start of the post how Ruthie was like her mum, but now we know she has the same taste in men too!

Be lucky you even get snow! It's my favorite type of weather and we don't really get it

“Come on, Juliet, let’s go eat,” Leslie said as they walked out of the Potions room an hour later.

“Whatever,” Ruthie replied, not even bothering to giggle at her muggle reference.

“Oh, come on, it wasn’t that bad. I promise,” Leslie said softly, patting Ruthie’s arm. Ruthie yanked her arm out of reach with a scowl.

“It was too,” Ruthie said stubbornly. Scorpius walked past them then, gently grazing Ruthie’s arm. She stopped in her tracks and stared after him. Leslie stopped short right beside her. He didn’t bother turning around this time. “Oh, who am I kidding? He’s so out of my league,” Ruthie groaned.

“Stop it. You’re not giving yourself enough credit. He’s the idiot,” Leslie said airily. Ruthie didn’t respond, but made her way to the Great Hall for lunch.

“Ruthie! Leslie!” James waved at them eagerly from the table. They walked over to him slowly, Leslie blushing slightly. Ruthie sniggered and Leslie nudged her in the side to make her stop. Lily, Hugo, Albus, and Rose had already made it to the table.

They must not have been side tracked by Scorpius, Ruthie thought. She smiled slightly at them, though they were grinning. It wasn’t an innocent grin either. It was evil. I guess the incident in Potions didn’t go as unnoticed as I thought, Ruthie thought embarrassedly. Her eyes dropped to her plate as she concentrated on piling on her food.

“So, how was class?” James asked casually, glancing at Ruthie.

“The usual,” she shrugged. “Boring.” Ruthie side glanced at the others, daring them to comment on what happened with her glare. Nobody spoke.

“Hey, do you know if Uncle George is meeting us in Hogsmeade?” James asked. Ruthie shook her head. How was she supposed to know? It’s not like she’d be going to Hogsmeade Village; she would be studying for her O.W.L.s. “Oh well,” James muttered under his breath, obviously thinking about the prankster supplies he wouldn’t be getting.

“Ruthie?” someone asked from behind her. She jumped slightly from the surprise before turning.

“Oh, hey, Nick,” Ruthie said with a small smile. Nick Davies, son of Roger Davies and Cho Chang.

“Hey, so, er, anything new?” he asked awkwardly. Ruthie mentally rolled her eyes.

“Not really, you?” Ruthie asked. He shook his head slightly.

“I, er, guess I’ll see you later,” Nick said quietly as he made his way to the Ravenclaw table.

“Somebody has a secret admirer,” James sniggered. Ruthie hit his arm with a sigh.

“Oh, shut it before I hex you,” she replied sourly.

“Somebody’s a bit defensive,” Leslie remarked.

“I’ll hex you too, Les,” Ruthie muttered under her breath. Leslie giggled and continued eating, undisturbed.

“But seriously, he’s been in love with you ever since the first day,” Rose said seriously. Ruthie glanced at her cousin in aggravation.

“He isn’t in love with me!” she hissed under her breath. “We’re just friends.” Ruthie set her jaw stubbornly as she played with her food.


“When are you going to realize that he’s just not into you? It’s the same thing every day, and then I have to hear you complain about it and what not!” Leslie yelled. Ruthie’s face grew hot as her eyes narrowed in fury. They were standing in the middle of the courtyard with many eavesdroppers around them. The incident was the same as always. They were in class, and Ruthie just stared at the back of Scorpius’s head.

“I—I just—He’s,” Ruthie spluttered. She glanced around at everyone’s curious faces. Her breath caught as she glanced at a blonde Slytherin, who was watching them with a half amused, half annoyed expression on his face. Ruthie turned bright red as she looked back at Leslie. She unclenched her jaw as her hands balled into fists. “Some best friend you are,” Ruthie muttered miserably before running off toward the lake.

Ruthie sat beneath the familiar tree and absently looked at the bark. She noticed the faint etching of EB and GW: Best Friends Forever in the bark. A heart had been added around it at their wedding apparently.

“Best friends,” she scoffed with a grunt as she turned her back from the taunting tree.

“Ruthie, Ruthie, Ruthie, what are we going to do with you?” James sighed as he sat beside her.

“Go away, I don’t want any company or pity parties,” she muttered.

“I’m not here as a pity party, Ruth, I’m here as your cousin, who is worried about you,” James said defensively. “Besides, I have something for you,” he added as he pulled out an envelope. “It’s from Uncle George; he gave it to me when I went to Hogsmeade. It came with a Chocolate Frog, but I got hungry,” he shrugged with a shy smile. Ruthie giggled in spite of herself.

Ruthie held out her hand and James put the rectangular package in her palm hesitantly. She tore open the paper as James stood to leave. She tipped over the contents of the envelope and a white gold chain with a heart dangling on the end fell to her fingertips. A small piece of folded parchment flew to the ground and she picked it up mechanically.

Ruthie Ginerva,
You don’t want to talk about it with your mother—I get it. I hope you like the necklace. We had it made for you. Ever since you were little, you’ve had a big heart. I really do know what you’re going through… Believe it or not, I had some boy problems in school. Not that I’m saying that this is about boys… When I needed someone to go to, I had your Grandpa Rems, and you have anyone at your choosing, Ruth. We’re all here for you, even Grandpa Rems. I’m sure he’s watching over you at this very moment. You’re not alone, sweetie. I love you. See you soon.

Ruthie glanced back at the necklace her mother had sent her. The truth was that she was afraid to tell her parents or any of the other adults, for that matter. She knew how her dad and Uncle Ron felt towards the Malfoy family, so it’s not like they would understand. She pulled the chain over her hair and let it dangle from her neck. Her fingers curled around the heart as she stared off into the lake.

“Can I sit with you?” Rose asked quietly, sitting down despite getting a response.

“I guess so,” Ruthie sighed.

“So…how are you?” Rose asked softly. Ruthie shrugged, not meeting her eyes. “I saw…what happened, that is. I’m sorry, Ruthie. I’m sure Leslie didn’t mean anything by it… She’s probably just having a bad day or something…”

“It doesn’t excuse her actions in my book,” Ruthie said stubbornly. Rose sighed. Ruthie pushed her black curls over her shoulder, catching one strand to twirl in her hands.

“So, you like him a lot, don’t you?” Rose whispered.

“That obvious?” Ruthie sighed. Rose giggled quietly.

“You should tell him,” Rose said quietly.

“He’s just not into me that way,” Ruthie said bitterly.

“How will you know unless you try?”

“Can we not talk about this?”

“I guess, but know I’m here if you want to talk, Ruth,” Rose said softly before standing to leave.

Ruthie sat there for a while, staring at the black water until the dinner bell rang. She slowly made her way back to the castle and sat beside Rose and James, ignoring a sulky Leslie.

“Ruthie, I really am—” Leslie began.

Ruthie held up her hand and Leslie paused. “I don’t care what you have to say. Just give it a rest. And stop talking to me,” Ruthie snapped before she stuffed a piece of chicken in her mouth. Leslie stared at her in shock before her eyes turned back to her own plate. James nudged Ruthie in the side, which made her harrumph. She glared at him, and he glared back.

“What?” she snapped.

“Don’t be so rude,” James snapped back.

“She brought it upon herself,” Ruthie growled under her breath.

“So much for best friends,” he hissed.

“I could say the same thing,” Ruthie said loudly. They glowered at each other, almost every eye in the Hall on them. “I’ve lost my appetite,” Ruthie said, narrowing her eyes. She left the Great Hall in a hurry, not making eye contact with anything but the floor. As she ran for her dormitory, she let a few tears escape. I didn’t do this, she chanted over and over in her head.

Instead of curling up n her bed, she went to the open window and stared out at the bright moon and the twinkling stars. She noticed the brightest and stared at it intently before closing her eyes all together.

Star Bright, star light, the first star I see tonight; I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight… I wish for him. Ruthie sighed as she turned to her four poster bed and climbed in. She drew the curtains around her bed and curled up as her tears overtook her.

Aww Honey! Don't cry Things will work out! I'm sure of it. This was cute Emily, though I think Leslies actions added to the mix and made her upset too which is terrible. Girls shouldn't cry over boys or horrible "friends"! Though quite a big number of us do

Classes were almost the same. Except that Ruthie didn’t talk to anyone anymore. She ignored Leslie and her cousins and focused on her homework alone. Quidditch tryouts were approaching and she would be taking up her previous position as Beater. She already told James that she’d help him with the tryouts, but she wasn’t sure how it was going to happen because they weren’t on speaking terms at the moment; she put that to the back of her head. She wanted to practice before tryouts though so she wouldn’t look rusty. She would have liked to practice with James, but that wasn’t going to happen. Instead, she practiced with Nick, which was annoying. He hardly ever shut up, so they really didn’t get a lot done.

During lunch on the following Friday, Ruthie sat beneath her parents’ tree, writing her Charms essay. She felt someone sit beside her, but she didn’t look up. She was on a roll with her essay and she knew that if she looked up now, she would forget what she was going to say. The person beside her didn’t seem to mind; they just sat quietly, waiting for her to finish.

Ruthie finally put her quill down fifteen minutes later and looked over at the mystery person. Her breath caught for just a minute, before she grinned widely.

“What are you doing here, Teddy?” Ruthie asked in shocked surprise.

“I, er, got a disturbing letter from a certain cousin… She thinks you could use someone to talk to and thought I was the best for the job,” he shrugged.

“I’m glad you’re here! How’s Vic?” she asked.

“She’s good, but we’re not here to talk about Vic, Ruth… We’re here about you,” he reminded her. Ruthie sighed, her smile dropping into a frown. “You can talk to me, you know,” he said, gently nudging her knee with his. She smiled slightly and nudged him back.

“I know,” she breathed.

“So, start talking,” he said as if it were an easy thing.

“I, er, like this guy…” Ruthie started.

“Ah,” he sighed. “Of course you do,” he muttered under his breath. “He isn’t right for you,” he said suddenly.

Ruthie stared at him with her eyebrow arched in amusement. “You don’t even know who it is yet,” she said, a smile playing on her lips.

“Fine, then, who is it?” he asked. She always loved his overly protective brother side. He was her absolute best friend.

“Well…” Ruthie hesitated. “His name is…Scorpius,” she said quietly, mumbling the last word. Teddy leaned in.

“What was that? I thought we talked about mumbling. Open your mouth, Ruth… Who do you like?” he said, chuckling lightly.

“Scorpius,” she said barely above a whisper.

“Scorpius?” Teddy muttered, deep in thought. “Where have I heard that name before?” he said more to himself than to her. Ruthie fidgeted uncomfortably. “Wait! Isn’t he the Malfoy kid?” Teddy asked as he stared at Ruthie. She nodded slowly, a sheepish expression on her face. Teddy gulped loudly, trying to keep a calm expression on his face.

“Are you mad?” Ruthie whispered.

“No, I’m not mad… Surprised a little, but not mad. Uncle Ron may be mad if he finds out, or even your Dad for that matter…” Ruthie turned her head sharply back to the lake. Her father and uncle were two of the main reasons she didn’t tell anybody.

“Are you disgusted with my taste?” Ruthie whispered.

“Nope,” he said after a little while. Ruthie looked at him with a skeptic look and he laughed. “You’re a bright kid, Ruth. If you like him, it’s for a legitimate reason. He must not be that bad,” Teddy decided. Ruthie sighed in relief.

“Promise you won’t tell anyone?”

“Promise.”

“I guess it doesn’t really matter anyway… He doesn’t like me back,” Ruthie whispered.

“I’m sure he does… And if he doesn’t, then there is something mentally wrong with him. Maybe if you talked to him about it…” he suggested. Ruthie made a face and he laughed again.

“C’mon, Ruthie, you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain,” Teddy said soothingly as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder.

“Easy for you to say, Mr. Happy With His Girlfriend And No Longer Needs To Worry About Putting Yourself Out There,” she muttered.

“I guess that’s true, but still,” Teddy said, suppressing a laugh.

“Fine, I’ll think about talking to him,” she said with a sigh. Teddy chuckled, patting her arm.

“That’s all I’m asking.” Teddy pulled out a bag from his traveling coat and started taking out boxes of Chinese food.

“What’s all this?” Ruthie asked as she sniffed the food, sighing in content at her orange chicken.

“Dinner… from your favorite Chinese restaurant, the Panda Express,” Teddy said with a grin.

“Yum!” she exclaimed as she reached for a fork. Teddy chuckled while he started dishing out different types of chicken into one of the Styrofoam boxes.
