Draco was following Candi like a dog. He just couldn't keep away from her. Unfortunately, he wasn't too subtle. When she was in the library, he was flipping through a book five feet away from her. When she went to get something to eat, he was munching on an apple right next to her. Finally, she confronted him.

They were walking the hallway that led to the outside stairs, and suddenly, Candi whirled around. Draco was casually walking behind her. He bumped into her.

"Ouch!"

"Look, kid, why are you here?" Candi placed her hands on her hips. Draco thought she looked stunning.

"Um, just going up and out." Draco said, trying to act casual.

"Oh, really? Where are you going?"

"Um......out?" Draco said sheepishly. The game was up. She smiled.

"What's your name again? I feel like we've met."

"We have! You saw me with Sam, that day in the Owlry. Remember?" Draco was practically begging for her to remember.

"Yea, what was your name again? Dweeby?"

"Draco! And you're Candi Halley!"

"Hm...do you want to go into town with me?" Draco gasped. He nodded, dumbfounded. "Good. Let's get a move on."

Draco held Candi's arm as they walked into town. They were given appreciative glances. But then, Draco saw Hermione and Ashley. He waved.

"Hey guys!" He tried to get their attention. Ashley waved, and Hermione tossed Candi a look of deepest loathing. Draco's hand went limp He got a curious feeling...almost as if he had been caught cheating. He shook his head.

"What's wrong?" Candi asked, concerned. Draco tried to smile.

"Nothing hon, let's get moving."

However, he found out later, nothing was to be the same again.

Hermione didn't talk too much after seeing Draco and Candi. Ashley sensed her hurt and anger, and wisely didn't bring up the subject. It brought itself up at dinner.

Draco sat down with a flop next to Ashley and Sam, and began to tuck in at dinner. Sam laughed.

"Nice to see you too. Where have you been all evening? I was gonna invite you to go swimming."

"I was busy. Candi showed me around town." Draco boasted. Ashley felt Hermione stir next to her, and changed the subject.

"That's nice. Sam, did you end up going swimming?" But Sam was enchanted by Draco.

"She actually went to town with you! She doesn't do that to anyone!" Sam was in awe.

"Well, she went with me. And we had a great...time...." Draco trailed off. He remembered Hermione's look of anguish. He dropped the subject quickly. Hermione got up and left. Ashley watched her leave, and gave Draco a Look.

"That wasn't very smart Draco."

"What? Why did she leave?" Draco was pretending to be confused, and Ashley knew it.

"You know why. Hermione wanted to spend time with you!" Ashley stood up and put her hands on her hips, food forgotten. "You're being to naive, it's ridiculous! I can't eat anymore." She left after Hermione.

Sam and Draco looked at each other. Sam sighed and pulled Ashley's plat eof food towards him.

"Draco, good buddy, you can't predict the wrath of girls...cause they give you nothing but trouble."

Hermione left the Banquet Hall, tears streaming down her cheeks. She tore down the stairs and into the Ravenclaw Dorms. She flopped down on her bed and cried. She was so confused!

Ashley came in and sat next to her shaking body. Ashley hugged her.

"A-Ashley....I don't understand why I'm up-upset. D-Draco-"

"Hermione, boys are scum, and ignoramoses. They don't know when to be funny and when to be serious."

"I know..." Hermione sat up. "But...he never bothered me before. I don't know why it would bother me now..." She dried her eyes.

"Hermione, someday you'll learn that guys just aren't worth the trouble and tears. Then you'll be happy. But until then, we've gotta put up with them, ok?"

"OK." Hermione gave a little laugh. Ashley and Hermione left to find the boys.

Draco and Sam went to the Ravenclaw Safe Room. They played a game of pool, a muggle sport that was quite entertaining to Draco. Ashley and Hermione came in. Ashley spoke to Draco.

"Hermione?" Draco came over to her. Hermione almost didn't pay attention, but Ashley gave her a nudge.

"What Draco?" She turned, her arms folded.

"I...I wanted to say I'm sorry. And...would you care to join me for a flying date tomorrow after classes?" The last part he spoke hastily, so HErmione knew it wasn't too planned.

"I-I can't fly." Hermione admitted, but her cheeks were glowing. Draco smiled.

"Oh, I can teach you. It's easy."

Hermione and Draco linked arms, and went in a corner to talk about Quiddich and flying in general.

Hermione and Draco walked up and out of the underground castle and into the open air. In Draco's hand, there were two brooms. In Hermione's hand, there was an instruction manual. Draco sighed when he looked at it.

"Hermione, I'm your instruction manual. You don't need that. How many times must I tell you?" Hermione shook her head.

"But Draco, What if I need it?" Draco took the book and threw it away. Hermione watched it fly and gasped. "Why did you do that?"

"Because you don't need it. You've got the best teacher in the world."

Draco pretended to swagger around, making Hermione laugh. He loved the sound of her laughter. "Now, let's get started." Draco gave Hermione one of the brooms. "The first thing to know about flying is what broom you're riding."

"Ok..." Hermione said, tentatively taking the broomstick away from Draco.

"Now, your broom happens to be a Comet 540. Pretty late model, good condition, see how the tail is slightly tilted? That makes you more aerodynamic. Understand?"

"Yes......no." Hermione was getting a little worried.

"Don't worry about that. Now, time to mount the broom. Swing your leg over the stick. No, the other way. Good girl. Now, grasp it-"

"EEK!" Hermione slid off the broom and hit the ground. Draco put his hand over his eyes. "Sorry." She said sheepishly, and mounted again, keeping a firm grip on the neck.

"Better. Now, kick off with your feet."

"Do what in the shower?" Hermione was extremely confused.

"What? Just push the ground with your feet. Not too hard, mind you."

Hermione kicked the ground, and her broom took her up. She cried out in delight.

"Draco! I'm flying! Oh....my...." Hermione's face turned green. Draco quickly jumped on his broom and kicked off. Hermione began to slide off the broomstick. Draco flew underneath her, barking instructions.

"Hermione, hold onto the broom. Grasp the neck! Lock your ankles. Sit up straight! No! Don't look at the ground! Shut your eyes!" Hermione's eyes snapped shut, and she began to sit up straighter. The broom was stationary. Hermione opened her eyes.

"D-Draco....am I ok?"

"You're fine. Do you want to keep flying?"

"Yes. I just...I'm afraid of heights I guess." Draco flew next to her, keeping the pace slow and steady. They made their way around the upper grounds. Sam and Ashley came up and watched the lesson.

"...now, don't grip the wood tootightly, otherwise your broom will speed up. And we don't want that right now, do we? Just relax."

Hermione's broom was steady, and they soon flew down after about an hour. Ashley and Sam helped Hermione off the broom. She clutched her back, then her knees.

"Draco, I don't know how you do it every day. My knees and back are killing me!"

Draco grinned. "Yea, but you'll get used to it. Maybe by next week, we'll start having races, if you're up to it Hermione."

"I'd like that." Hermione said, and looked deep into Draco eyes. Sam and Ashley seemed to disappear. It was just the two of them. Draco leaned foward, and Hermione likewise. Before they could follow their instincts, Sam cried out.

"Ah! Snakes!" He hopped on Hermione's broom and flew off. Ashley screamed.

"Sam! YOU CAN'T FLY! WHAT ARE YOU DOOOING!" Draco broke away from Hermione and flew off, trying to save Sam. Hermione and Ashley watched with worry as Draco caught up to Sam and led him back down.

"Sam, next time, watch what your doing." Draco said, laughing. "What were you afraid of?"

"S-Snakes...they're everywhere." Sam said nervously, looking around. "You can't be too careful."

"C'mon silly, let's get you inside." Ashely giggled, and helped Sam start towards the shed that would lead them down into the school. Hermione looked at Draco longingly. Draco shared her glance for one brief moment, then followed Sam and Ashley down into the school.

Hermione, Draco, Ashley, and Sam headed into the ground and into the Ravenclaw Safe Room. Draco put the brooms away, and Hermione conjured up some snacks. Sam reached for a cookie.

"Mmm...thanks Hermione. Those snakes really gave me an appetite." Sam munched hungrily. Ashley watched him.

"I never knew you were scared of snakes."

"Oh yea, snakes creep me out. Just the way they slither, and their eyes....ooooh." He shuddered. "My sister Tara and I abhor them. She's worse than I am."

"Tara?" Hermione asked interested. "Does she go to this school?"

"No, she went to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Graduated Valedictorian. But a snake appeared while she was giving her speech. Well, to make a long story short, they had to practically drag her down from the tree. Wasn't a good day for Tara, I'll tell you right now."

"Sounds interesting." Draco said.

"Well, the real funny part happened-"

"Ugh, I can't believe he wants us to do this." A girl with long red hair entered the room with a blonde. Both were pretty and got Draco's attention quick. Hermione ignored them.

"True, but, we are his best friends. It's our duty to deliver even the most grueling messages. Oh look, there she is."

The two girls walked over and sat with Hermione. "So, what's going down?"

"Beg pardon?" Hermione asked, extremely confused now.

"Beg what? Oh, never mind. My name's Jaimie, and she's Adrienne." The red head said, and Adrienne waved."

"That's nice. Kindly let me know what you're doing here?" Hermione said.

"Oh yea, that. Well, our friend Scott wants to know if you'll, like, go out with him, and maybe be his girlfriend." Adrienne said bluntly. Lisa grunted.

"Who's Scott?" Draco asked, abruptly cutting off Lisa. Hermione glanced at him.

"He's this guy from Hufflepuff who seriously digs Hermione. He can't stop talking about her. It's really annoying." Lisa said, looking down at the ground.

"She's just upset because Scott used to be her boyfriend." Adrienne whispered to Ashley. Ashley nodded understandibly.

"Don't talk about that!" Lisa punched Adrienne in the ribs. "I told you I don't care anymore. So how about it Hermione?"

"I...I...." Hermione looked at Draco for help. Draco nodded.

"She doesn't want to." He said firmly. Lisa looked relieved. Adrienne curious.

"And who says so?"

"Her boyfriend says so. So you go tell Scope or Stop or whatever his name is, she says no." Draco put an arm around Hermione, and Hermione grinned. Lisa and Adrienne shrugged their shoulders.

"Fine, but don't blame us if he get's upset about this." Adrienne warned as they left. Hermione gave Draco a grateful look.

"Thanks boyfriend."

"You're welcome girlfriend."

Then they kissed, sealing the promise of a life together, for as long as they could.

Awww....how sweet!
