I was relieved when finally the train started moving. I settled in my train seat across from Ron and Harry, who were caught up in a game of wizard chess. Within the first few minutes of observing their tactics, I sought interest within the Daily Prophet, from which I read excerpts.
When we pulled up to King’s Cross Station, my stomach was queasy. I didn’t want to talk to Draco, now that I was on the verge of doing it. I forced myself to get up from the seat and gather my bags.
I met Draco’s eye as I crossed from the wizarding world to the Muggle world at platform nine and three quarters as if telling him that I would be back shortly.
On the other side, many members of the order greeted us, giving us hugs. Mum and Dad were there as well. As much as I was delighted to see them, I felt impatience rise up in me. Soon we were saying our good-byes to Harry before his sour-looking relations whisked him off.
“I think I forgot something back there. I’ll be back in a moment,” I whispered to Ron, slipping back through the barrier.
I spotted Draco lingering around the corner. I hurried over, my hands feeling clammy. My throat went dry.
“Draco,” I began slowly. Then I stopped. Nothing could come out. I felt as though I were about to vomit. His face prodded me to say what I needed to, though, and I choked out, “I don’t think we should be seeing each other anymore. We’re of different…standards.” Draco
My face was stony. I crossed my arms and flicked some hair out of my eyes. The statement drove an icy knife through my heart. As much as I wanted to gather her into my arms, I resisted. “Yeah. I noticed. I never should have involved myself in someone of lower standards…mudblood.” My frosty eyes pierced through Herm—Granger. I turned to leave. I needed to turn away before she could see how hard this was for me too. I could feel tears burning my eyes, but as a well-practiced faker, I controlled myself.
“Draco…wait. Don’t go. I…” her soft voice trailed off into meaningless words.
Hermione
He turned towards me again. “Look, Hermione, don’t make it harder for me.” His voice was shaking. “Let’s just go back to our normal lives. Mudblood and Malfoy. It’s easier that way.” I could see the trace of a tear edging his eye.
I swallowed. “I don’t want it to go back to the way it was.” My heart was breaking, and I could tell his was too. Tears were filling my own eyes. For a moment Draco’s face softened and he stepped closer to me, wiping my tears away with a swipe of his finger. “I don’t see any other way,” he whispered. Then he cleared his throat and stood back stiffly. “Until next time, Granger.” The daunting tone of his voice had returned.
“Bye, Malfoy.” My voice trembled; I bit my trembling lip.
He gave me a curt nod, which I returned. Then we parted, going our separate ways. I glanced back only once, to see that he had also looked back. Our eyes met for a second. We both turned away quickly, vowing to ourselves that that was the last time we were going to turn back. From now on, from the outside, we would continue our rivalry. But as for the inside…I think that we would secretly see each other for more than just the mere Granger and Malfoy. fin

that was one of my favorite stories. i loved it. i didnt think it would end like that tho. i was waiting for them to confess they can't live w/o each other. but oh well...sad ending... i cant wait for the epilogue!
