Alrighty, here is my birthday post!!!! I hope you enjoy!

“I need to talk to you. Please stop struggling; you’re making it difficult,” the voice pleaded. Emily stopped struggling immediately, recognizing Draco’s voice.

“What do you want, Draco?” Emily whispered. He finally let her go and shut the door. Emily sat on one of the dusty desks, rubbing her arms.

“I told you, I need to talk to you.” He turned around from the doorway, taking in her appearance. “Sorry about the means of bringing you here. I didn’t think you’d come willingly,” Draco said sheepishly.

“You’re right, I wouldn’t have.” She stared him down, wanting him to hurry up so she could leave. “What do you want, Draco?” she repeated.

“I’m so sorry, Emily. It’s just that, well, I’m Draco Malfoy. I have a name to uphold and things I’m required to live up to. It’s how I was brought up. It’s just a show to make my father happy. I didn’t think it would hurt you that much. Ems, please, I miss you.” Draco walked towards her and reached for her hand. She grabbed it back, shaking her head slightly.

“How am I suppose to believe you? To trust you? Draco, I get that it was how you are brought up and that you have certain expectations, but a name is a name. It means absolutely nothing. What matters is on the inside and who you choose to be.” Emily looked at the floor, not knowing what to do next.

“You know who I am on the inside. The only one, and that’s all that matters to me, Ems. Never forget that. And you're supposed to believe me because I’m telling the truth. You’re supposed to trust me because I promise that I will never hurt you.” Draco reached for her hand again, but when she snatched it away again, he didn’t stop. His hand touched hers lightly and then held on tight.

“You’ve already hurt me by being rude to my friends, my godfather. How can I believe you when you lie everyday, when we lied everyday? I don’t know if I can keep up the deceit, Draco.” She looked down at their intertwined fingers. Though she was still upset with him, she couldn’t help but think about how nice it felt. “I know we had agreed not to tell anyone, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a complete git to my friends to keep up the charade.”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
Draco stepped closer to her. “I don’t want to lie to everyone.” He reached his other hand up to her face and stroked her cheek with the back of his hand. “I’m a complete git to your friends because they expect it, not to mention we despise each other, but if it bothers you, I’ll try to stop, meaning I’ll try avoiding them as much as possible so I won’t be tempted.” Draco’s hand moved to her hair; he knotted it there.

Emily looked up, searching his silvery eyes. They looked serious and full of truth. Emily straightened up from the table and leaned into Draco’s chest. Looking past him at the closed door, she whispered, “I believe you.” Draco dropped her hand and put his around her waist. He pushed the small of her back closer to him.

“I’ve fallen for you, Emily Black, no turning back now. I’m in for life.” Draco chuckled, kissing her hair and then her neck. She pulled back to look at him. He laced a loose curl around her ear and then leaned in and kissed her full on the lips. What started out as a couple of pecks, turned into full on passion. Sparks flew from each. When he kissed her, she couldn’t resist him any longer. When he kissed her, they were the only two people in the world and nothing else mattered. When he kissed her, she forgot everything that had happened and just lived in the moment. Emily took a fistful of his hair in her hands and kissed him back as passionately as she could. She had fallen for him, too.

After fifteen minutes of snogging, they slowed the kisses down a bit, each catching their breaths. Emily pecked him on the lips once more. “I love you,” she whispered into his chest. She felt vulnerable. He could reject her and it would break her heart. He could be making a fool of her, he could be playing a joke on her, but she didn’t care. If she was a fool, then she was a fool in love.

“I love you, too,” whispered Draco, stroking her hair. She gave a sigh of relief, hugging him closely.

Emily put her arms around his neck and leaned back slightly. “Where does this leave us now?” she asked.

“I have no idea. I guess, still under wraps, meeting secretly at night to see each other.” Draco shrugged his shoulders.

“I guess so,” she chuckled lightly. “So, you promise not to be too hard on my friends?” she asked.

“Well, I can’t promise anything much. I’ll definitely not stop completely.” Emily pursed her lips. “But, I’ll maybe die it down a little,” he rushed on.

“I guess I’ll have to live with that,” she pouted. Draco moved his hand up to her mouth, lightly grazing his thumb over her lips.

“Just know that every moment, I’ll be miserable knowing I’m talking bad to and about you and your friends.” Draco kissed her forehead.

Right, because I know you’ll be very miserable insulting Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys.” Emily rolled her eyes and both started laughing.

“Well, maybe I won’t be miserable insulting them, but I’ll be miserable if I ever insult you. So if I do, please just ignore it and know that I don’t mean it.”

“Sure, if it’s the truth,”
she replied. “I should probably get back. I don’t want anyone wondering where I’ve disappeared to.” She kissed his lips and he kissed back. They hugged once more, and then Emily told him she’d see him later at dinner. She walked back to the door, opening it a crack to see if the corridor was deserted. Seeing it was, she crept down the hall, on her way to Remus's classroom.

“Rems, I have great news!” she exclaimed as she closed the door to his office. Looking up, he gave her an amused look.

“Oh? So Dumbledore said yes, then?” he looked at her expectantly.

“What? Oh, yeah, the full moon. Yeah, he said I could. I told you, you couldn’t keep me away.” Emily gave him a skeptical look before continuing. “After I talked to Dumbledore, I ran into Draco. Well, actually he ran into me. But that’s not the point. We talked and decided to get back together.” She waited for his response. She had to wait a while, for he just stared at her in shock, studying her.

“Are you sure you want to go back down this road? I mean, don’t get me wrong, Ems, I want you to be happy, I just don’t want you to get hurt again.”

“I’m positive, Rems. I’m in love with him.”
She wasn’t sure if she should have added that last bit.

“Don’t be ridiculous. You’re too young to know what love is.”

“I am not,”
Emily stated through her teeth. “I’m plenty old enough and I definitely know what love is.” Emily was one of the most stubborn people in the world.

“Fine, if you want to think you’re in love, then have at it. But when you realize you’re not really in love and he hurts you again, remember I’ll be right here to pick you up again.” Remus looked down at his half-graded papers and picked up a quill. He started reading the top paper, fixing the grammatical errors as he went. Emily huffed and stomped out of the office. Her once happy moment now ruined by her godfather’s negativity.

On her way out of his office she yelled back at him, “By the way, I quit Divination! Just thought you should know. I don’t want to waste my time.” She made her way through the classroom, grabbing her bag from their earlier lesson. Making her way to the Common Room, she sulked. All too soon she found herself telling the Fat Lady the password. She took a deep breath to calm herself, hoping her friends wouldn’t sense her mood.

They were all sitting beside the fire. Some were working on their homework while others dozed off. Not completely out of her bad mood, Emily had slammed the portrait shut, the Fat Lady screaming her protests. They turned around and watched her breathe deeply to herself, trying to calm down.

“I’m not hungry. I’m going to bed early. See you tomorrow,” she stated through clenched teeth. She didn’t wait for their responses, but quickly ran up the stairs to her dormitory. She snatched her pajamas out of her chest and quickly threw them on, trying to be as fast as possible before Hermione and Ginny came to check on her. She pulled the curtains around her four poster closed and sat bolt upright in her bed. She looked at her ring, sighing slightly. He just doesn’t understand, she thought to herself. I am in love and he loves me back. He loves me back. Sigh. She slouched down into a laying position on her side. She heard the door open, a few whispers, and then the door clicked closed. It was completely silent besides her sniffling.

She lay there for a while before finally being able to fall asleep, but it wasn’t a pleasant sleep. It was restless, painstakingly restless. She was in The Forbidden Forest. She was running, but she wasn’t alone. Someone caught her hand, she looked sideways at him; it was Draco. He looked terrified, but not only for himself, for her. They picked up the pace, rushing through the branches and thorns. Emily had a gash on her cheek and Draco had scrapes all over his arms. She tripped over a stump, but Draco caught her. They kept going. In the distance, behind them, they heard another body moving through the branches. Emily awoke with a start to an ear-splintering howl.

Breathing deeply, Emily tied her sweaty hair back. She was drenching in sweat, her covers all over her bed, twisted and knotted. She opened her curtains and got up slowly. She took a swig from the water jug. Her throat was dry; she was completely parched. Hearing her stomach grumble she decided she could use some food. Happy that the twins had told her where the kitchens were the year previously, she tiptoed to the door. Closing it quietly behind her, she made her way to the Portrait Hole.

Emily was on her way back from the kitchens with a sandwich in one hand and pumpkin juice in the other when she heard someone’s footsteps. It was way past curfew, so, thinking fast, she hid behind one of the statues. She held her breath as the footsteps steadily grew louder. As she heard the person pass, she peeked out from her hiding place to see who it was, but when she stepped back again, her pajamas caught on one of the points of the statue. Gasping, she tried to get herself loose, then put her hand over her mouth, realizing she had made too much noise.

“Need some help with that, Miss Black?” asked a sneering voice. Emily knew that voice; that very voice made her stomach churn and anger mount. It was Professor Snape. Emily looked like a deer in headlights as Snape flickered his wand to reveal light.

She quickly recovered and replied, “No thanks, I think I can get it.”

“So, we missed dinner and decided a stroll after curfew to fetch food would sustain. That will be fifty points from Gryffindor and detention tomorrow during your now free period, Miss Black. 10:00. Don’t be late or we’ll make it detention all week. I suggest you get back to your Common Room.” Emily watched him turn the corner, his lightened wand drifting with him.

After detaching herself from the statue and cursing it slightly, she made her way quickly back to Gryffindor Tower. Emily collapsed on the nearest chair. Fuming, she finished her meal and then cozied up to the fluffy interior. Her eyes drooped and the next thing she knew, she was being shooken awake by George, Fred, and Lee.

“Hello? Rise and shine, sunshine,” George shook. She blinked a few times and stretched her arms. The sunlight leaked in through the window and blinded her. She groaned from the crick in her neck, deciding internally that chairs are comfy until you woke up.

“Good Morning, Ems! Why’d you sleep down here?” Fred asked cheerfully.

“I got hungry last night and went to the kitchens. I guess when I came back, I just fell asleep,” Emily replied groggily. All of a sudden, she slapped her forehead, remembering what else happened that night. “Crap!” she exclaimed.

“What?” asked George, Fred, and Lee at the same time.

“I forgot. Snape caught me last night and gave me detention. That must be a record. Detention the first week back.” She groaned again.

Fred and George glanced at each other and grinned. “I wouldn’t go that far, Ems. There is no way you could break our records.” They laughed to themselves but when they caught Emily’s facial expression, they stopped in a hurry.

“This is so Remus’s fault!”

“How have you managed that?”
Fred asked curiously.

“He’s the one that made me miss dinner and have to sneak down last night to eat; therefore, making him the one that made me get detention."

Riiiiiigggghhhhhtttt,”
replied the twins together. Emily grimaced at them.

A soft clink on the window drew all of their attention. Walking over to the window, Lee undid the hatch and the eagle owl flew in, landing on Emily’s armrest. The outside of the envelope had Emily’s name on it. She recognized the handwriting immediately and opened the letter.

Emily,
Are you all right? Why didn’t you come to dinner last night? Meet me in room 17 during breakfast. I’ll bring food so you won’t starve. Hope to see you then.
Love,
DM

** Okay, so it was Draco... I wanted to make him out as strong because he is a Quidditch player, and he ran into her from behind, so she couldn't see who it was... That's why she was talking the way she was to the mystery person... So yeah, I hope you liked it and please comment!

Don't hate me, but ,they're what... 13 years old now? I have to agree with Remus. But, you wasn't wrong in writing this. It's funny, how young people think they know everything, and adults are crazy senile people who don't know or understand them.

She reminds me so much of Sirius! You really do good in making her to be her own person, but also much like her father.

And everyone recognizes the Eagle Owl. I wonder what Fred and George are thinking about this.
Great post, Emily. I'll be watching for another post. Hope you had a wonderful birthday.

Haha, I don't hate you, I agree with you, I just think it's funny how young people always think they're in love when they have no idea the true meaning. Fred and George are just going to be oblivious to the eagle owl, because I didn't even think about them recognizing it. They will be more intrigued by the letter she gets... Thanks for the wishes! It was definitely an awesome 18th.

More soon; probably tomorrow because my brother's home and we're doing something tonight...

Hi my lovely readers! It's time for the next post and I do believe that it is time for Emily to know the truth... I hope you enjoy.

Emily read through the letter twice, but when the twins tried to peek, she folded it back up and ran up the stairs to change. Trying to make the least amount of noise as possible, Emily changed into jeans and a turquoise long sleeve tee. Putting on her black converse, she glanced at her reflection in her mirror. She unknotted her hair and then made her way back down the stairs, her letter in her back pocket and her wand in her front pocket.

Turning the corner, she saw the Room 17 sign plastered on a door. Feeling giddy, she peeked inside and spotted Draco leaning casually on a desk. He looked up when he heard her come in and shut the door.

“Hi,” she said apprehensively.

“Hi,” he replied.

She made her way over to him and he held out his arms. Emily rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. He wrapped his arms around her waist and she laid her hands on his biceps.

“Do you want to talk about it?” he asked her quietly. She shook her head against his chest.

“Can we just stay like this for a while?” she whispered.

“Of course.”

They stood there for a long while, but Emily’s stomach started grumbling loudly, so they declared it was time to eat their breakfast. Draco led the way to their little buffet. He wasn’t sure what she would be in the mood for and decided better safe than sorry. Emily picked up a buttered bagel and started nibbling on the side. Draco watched her eat. He watched how she gulped down her juice, sighing when her stomach was satisfied. He watched how when she blushed, the red crept from her ears to her pale cheeks. He watched as the blush reformed once again when she peeked at him from the corner of her eyes and saw him staring at her. He watched how her long eyelashes would glide over her skin when she looked down and how when she stopped chewing, her lips looked so full.

“Okay, I can’t take it anymore. What are you staring at? Is something on my face?” she asked him. Her hand automatically went to her face to wipe away what wasn’t there.

“No, no, silly. I’m staring at the most beautiful girl in the world,” he chuckled. Her cheeks went a deeper shade of red.

“So, who is your imaginary friend? Can I meet her?” she chuckled back.

“You are so hilarious. Has anyone told you that before? Total knee-slapper.”

“You know, I believe I have heard that before,”
she grinned. He grinned back, glad that she was happier. “If someone had told me that you could be this humorous, sweet, and sappy a year ago, I would have thought they were mental.”

He laughed aloud. “Yes, well you should consider yourself lucky to be the only one to know this side of me.”

“I don’t have to be the only one, you know,”
she whispered, taking his hand. “Why can’t others see what I see?”

“Because if my father found out, he would forbid me to see you, take me out of school, and probably get your godfather fired. I don’t think either one of us would want that to happen, now do we?”

“I guess you’re right. I just wish we didn’t have to sneak around and lie to everybody,”
Emily sighed.

“I know, and maybe one day, when we’re out of school, we won’t have to,” he suggested. He gently squeezed her hand.

“Yeah, maybe.” Looking back at the table, she grabbed a chocolate glazed doughnut. “Yum. I haven’t had doughnuts in forever.” She smiled to herself and took a bite, sighing at the deliciousness. Draco chuckled and took a bite of his toast.

About half an hour later, they finished their breakfast. Emily checked her watch; it was only nine o’clock.

“I forgot it was still early,” she breathed. “So, what do you want to do?”

“I dunno know; class doesn’t start for another hour. Want to just hang out?”
he asked.

“Sure,” she replied looking around the abandoned classroom. “Hmmm.” She pulled her wand out of her front pocket and flicked at the little space beneath a window. She muttered a spell under her breath and cushions and pillows appeared.

“Nice spell,” Draco chuckled.

“Thanks, I’ve had a lot of practice,” she declared.

“Maybe a bit too much practice.”

“What does that mean?”

“Just that you study too much, Miss Goody two-shoes,”
he chuckled again.

“That is insulting, Draco. It’s not like I spend every waking minute studying,” she joked, pretending to be offended.

“Which is a good thing, or else I’d be jealous of your books.”

“Well, that is something to be grateful for then.”
They both laughed. “Come on, cutie, let’s sit down.”

She took his hand and led the way to the newly conjured cushions. He sat with his back facing the wall and she sat on his left, her head lying upon his chest. She started drawing shapes onto his palm with her fingertips. He kissed her hair, moving his other hand to her waist. She turned around to face him. When she looked at him, he felt as if she were staring right through him, into his soul. He inclined his head towards her and she reciprocated.

His kiss started out slow, tender. His silky lips caressed hers. Emily pulled her fingers through his hair, knotting them there as she let him invade her mouth. Her stomach started fluttering, the butterflies waking up. She turned her body more into him. He grabbed her around the waist and slung her around so she was sitting in his lap, her legs on either side of his waist. He stopped the kiss only for a second to whisper “I love you.” He picked back up where he left off and slowly consumed her again. His right hand went to her cheek while his other glided to the small of her back. He gently pressed her closer to him and she obliged. The kisses started turning more passionate, urgent. She placed one of her hands on his shirt, grabbing the cloth, while the other was still tightly holding his hair. Becoming a bit rambunctious, Draco twirled her around so that she was now lying on the floor, him on top of her. He started kissing her neck and then slowly started lifting up her shirt. Her eyes fluttered open in alarm.

“Whoa, buddy. Draco?” She cleared her throat and loosened her grip on his hair. “Draco? Draco, stop. We can’t. I can’t.” He wasn’t flinching. “Alright, hot stuff, we need to cool it down a bit. Draco, can you even hear me?” She grabbed his wrist that was slowly making its way up her stomach and then lifted his chin with her other hand. “Hi,” she chuckled when he dreamily met her eyes. “Having fun?”

“I was, until you stopped me.”
He started inclining his head towards her again, but she held out her hand to his chest to stop him.

“I think we should maybe cool it for now. I don’t know how much restraint I’ll have next time.”

“Which is exactly why I’m trying to kiss you,”
he replied seriously.

“I said no, Draco. Can you please just respect that?” she asked back, starting to get ticked off. Is sex all guys want? He finally took the hint, huffed, and untangled her legs from his waist, sliding over so he was lying next to her instead of on top of her. “Thank you.”

“Mmmhmm,”
he replied.

“Don’t be upset, Draco. I’m just not ready for that yet.”

“I’m not upset, really. I just need to calm down a bit, maybe slow my heart rate a little.”

They were both breathing heavily. She didn’t interrupt his calming process, giving him a chance to catch his breath. After a couple of minutes of complete silence, Emily reached over and placed her hand around his own.

“I love you, too,” she whispered. He gently squeezed her hand, bringing it up to his lips where he planted a few kisses on her palm. She closed her eyes, sighing, glad to know he wasn’t completely mad at her. She rolled over, putting her head on his shoulder. A few moments later, she glanced at her watch. It was now nine forty-five. Sighing, she lifted her head up.

“I’d better get going. I can’t be late. Maybe we can get together soon though,” Emily suggested.

“How about tonight?”

“Hmm. I don’t know if you really want to listen to me complain about your favorite teacher,”
Emily replied sourly. Draco moved a stray strand of her hair behind her ear and laughed quietly to himself.

“Exactly why would you be complaining about him?”

“Because he gave me a detention and I know it’s not going to go well.”

“Already, Ems? Really? It is the first week back, you know?”

“Hardy har, har. Aren’t you so funny? Yes, I am aware. I went out after curfew last night to get some food. Snape caught me and gave me detention.”

“Well, I guess we will have to take, what is it that muggles call it? A rain check? Whatever that means.” Now it was Emily’s turn to laugh silently.

“Yes, it is called a rain check, oh brilliant one. It means we’ll have to wait until some other time, which, unfortunately, is what we’re gonna do.” Emily stood up, pulling him with her. He pulled her into a hug and kissed her lightly on her forehead.

“So, I was thinking. Maybe we should have code names for when we need to write each other.”

“Hmm, what did you have in mind?”

“I was kinda hoping you had something. You are more creative than me,”
he chuckled.

“How about you can be DaMien with a capital D and M. I can be EBony with a capital E and B. That way, it has our initials. What do you think?” she asked.

“Sounds perfect, Miss EBony.”

“I guess I’ll see you around, Mr. DaMien,”
she said playfully. She kissed him lightly on the lips while the butterflies erupted again. She pulled away to look at him.

“See you soon then,” he whispered dreamily. He leaned in for another kiss. Emily reached up on her toes and kissed him back. They finally pulled away from each other and with a flick of her wand, Emily made all of the cushions disappear.

Emily left the room first, heading for the dungeons. Draco left ten minutes after her, heading in the opposite direction.

Emily felt a draft as she descended the sloping corridor. She hugged herself, trying to feel warmth. Her cheeks were still a bit flushed from her kiss with Draco. Trying to hold onto the happiness that she felt when she was with him, she knocked on her Potion Master’s door.

“Enter,” drawled a voice from the other side of the door.

Emily twisted the knob and slid inside. “Hi, Professor. I’m here for my detention,” she stated hesitantly.

“I am well aware of why you are here, Miss Black,” he said with a sneer upon his face. He seemed to be enjoying this. “You will be ever so lucky today. Today you are going to go through these buckets of flobberworms and ticks. The ticks have been feeding on them, so you need to detach them. The ticks will go in this jar for later use and you can put the flobberworms into this bucket. I’m sure Hagrid can get a use out of him, that is, if he isn’t fired.” Snape finished with a smirk on his pale face. He waited for her outburst.

Emily’s temper flared, but she kept it under control so she didn’t get further detentions. “Yes, Professor. Er... I didn’t bring my gloves, would you happen to have any I could borrow?”

“Didn’t come prepared? Twenty points from Gryffindor.”
Emily’s cheeks flushed, her anger growing. “I’m afraid I don’t have any to spare. Looks like you’ll be doing it bare handed.”

Emily grimaced, nodding her head instead of speaking her mind. She sat down on one of the stools, dragging the bucket with her. Looking in the basket, she frowned. She’s never really liked bugs, but she could deal with them. Spiders were a different matter completely. There was no way possible somebody could get her to go near a spider. They gave her the creeps.

For the next hour Emily separated the worms and ticks. One tick actually got away from her grasp and bit her wrist. She was finally able to get the bloodsucker off of her and threw it rather roughly into the jar. Snape came over every ten minutes to tell her she was doing something wrong. She kept her comments to herself and waited for him to leave before muttering under her breath. It was eleven thirty when he came back over for the umpteenth time.

“If only I could have made your father do this. He deserves far worse of course, after all of what he had done to me,” came his voice from behind her. Emily jumped, not hearing his approach. He’s like a bloody ghost, she thought to herself.

Finally realizing what he said, she blurted out, “You knew my father?”

“Yes I knew that idiotic, cocky prat. You didn’t know? We were in school together,”
Snape stated, a little annoyance evident in his voice.

“Who...who is he?” she asked. She had waited for this answer for as long as she could remember. She had looked in numerous books and newspapers to find the answer and never thought of asking her teachers.

“You don’t know who he is?” he asked incredulously. She shook her head and a twisted smile appeared on his thin face. “Well, well, this is better than I could have thought. Lupin never mentioned him?” She shook her head again and his smile, if possible, became even more twisted. “Your father is the criminal every dementor is searching for. He is the one who turned his back on his friends. He is Sirius Black,” he popped the name from his mouth, speaking deliberately clear.

Great post Emily. I was afraid I was going to have to read between my fingers over my eyes there for a bit, but then, Emily showed her good judgment on the matter.

Here's the next post... I hope you enjoy and please comment...

“Wh...what? No. You’re lying. It can’t be him.” She shook her head. Angry tears were falling from her cheeks onto the dungeon floor. Snape snickered menacingly to himself and nodded.

“Can I be excused, Professor? I finished separating them,” she said quietly a few minutes later. There were many Black's in the Wizarding World--it wasn't an uncommon name. But Emily never thought in a million years that Sirius Black could have been her father. She was completely torn. She was happy that she now knew the truth. She now knew the answer to the question she’d searched for so many times. But, she was also on the verge of wanting to rip someone’s head off. How could he have kept this from her? Let her walk around while others knew the truth? Snape nodded curtly with a gleam in his eye.

Emily closed the door gently behind her and swiftly walked back up the corridor. Her speed walk turned into a jog, which then turned into a sprint. She didn’t care that Remus might have a class. She didn’t care about anything else at that very moment. She just wanted to hear him tell her the truth. The tears were falling more freely than before. Her hair swished out behind her and her palms grew sweaty. But none of that mattered. It didn’t matter that the wind from her run was drying her eyes, making them sting. It didn’t matter that people stared at her as she ran by. All that mattered was the classroom door that was steadily drawing nearer.

Without even taking a breath, she burst through the door. Everyone in the room turned to watch her, but she only had eyes for the man in the front of the room.

“Emily! What on earth happened?” Remus exclaimed, the shock not completely gone.

“How could you not tell me? How could you keep this from me, Remus John Lupin?” she yelled back, walking swiftly up to him.

“What are you going on about?”

“That he is my father,”
she stated through clenched teeth. She couldn’t control her anger any longer and suddenly drew back her hand and slapped him across the face. She heard the gasps from all over the room, but didn’t turn to face the rest of the class.

“Emily, Emily, you have to understand,” he tried to calm her down, but she was in no mood for calmness.

“Understand? Understand, Remus? So I am supposed to understand how you lied to me my entire life? I am supposed to understand why you let me walk around as a fool?” she retorted.

“Maybe we should take this up to my office. I’ll meet you in there in a bit. Go,” he urged. She was in no way giving up, but grudgingly went up to his office, slamming the door shut behind her. She paced around the small space.

Back in the classroom, Remus told the students their homework assignment and dismissed them. He slowly walked up to his office, running a hand through his graying hair. He sighed and pushed open the door. Emily turned abruptly to stare him down.

“Who told you?” he asked quietly.

“Does it even matter?” she asked back.

“It matters to me, Ems.” He sighed again, motioning for her to sit down on the couch. She obliged and he took the seat next to her.

“Snape told me, during my detention,” she stated quietly, studying his features.

“Ah, that explains everything,” he sighed again. “Emily, listen to me. I didn’t tell you to protect you. You wouldn’t have understood. It’s complicated.”

Emily jumped up from the couch and started pacing again. “Protect me? Complicated?” Her voice rose back to yelling.

“I knew you wouldn’t understand. I was trying to protect you from this, Emily. From the pain that I know you are feeling right now. Please, believe me,” he pleaded.

“The only pain I feel right now is betrayal from you, is deceit from you, is empty words that came out of your very mouth. ‘He’s a great person, Emily,’” she mocked him. “You liar! I thought you loved me. I guess I was wrong, because if you loved me you wouldn’t have kept this from me.”

“Emily, I do love you and that is why I kept it from you. It would have crushed you if you knew about him, his past.”

“That isn’t what crushed me, Remus. What crushed me was the lies that came from the one man I have always trusted, have always loved, have always believed.” Emily stared at him, her eyes full of tears. Remus tried putting his hands on her shoulders but she shook them off.

“You can’t comfort me now, Remus,” she stated. She started for the door but he blocked her.

“You are not leaving until you understand,” Remus said calmly.

“You will never be able to explain to me why you withheld the truth,” she stated solemnly. She ducked under his arm and darted down the stairs. Hurrying from the classroom, she ran flat out to classroom 17. She closed the door behind her and flicked her wand to make the cushions reappear. She fell on top of the cushions, sinking to the floor. She sobbed into her hands, her mascara dripping down her cheeks. Her hands stopped shaking just enough for her to be able to jab her wand and make parchment and a quill appear. She started scratching away.

DaMien,
I don’t know if you’re in class, but I could use your shoulder right now. If you can, come to where we met this morning. Please. I need you.
EBony

Tears smudged the note but she sent it off anyway with another flick of her wand. Settling back into the cushions, she let her tears fall onto the cloth, creating stains.

Draco was sitting in History of Magic when a folded piece of paper flew in through one of the windows and dropped right in front of him. Some of the students noticed and watched him curiously, but Professor Bins, oblivious to everything, droned on about some war. He read through the note quickly, becoming alarmed from the tearstains and shaky handwriting. Deciding on his best excuse, he cleared his throat.

“Professor?” he stated rather loudly.

The professor started and then stared at Draco with a surprised expression. “Yes, Drew? What is it?”

“My arm is starting to hurt rather badly, I think I need to go see Madame Pomfrey. May I be excused?”
he asked innocently, flinching when he grazed his arm with the opposite hand.

“Of course, of course. Hurry up,” Professor Bins stated rather dully.

Draco hopped from his seat and snatched up his books with his ‘good’ arm. After reaching the corridor, he ran up the stairs toward classroom 17. Seeing it straight ahead, he started to slow down and glanced around to make sure nobody had followed or was watching him. He slid in the door and shut it behind him, locking it. He looked around the room and heard sniffling from under the window. He jogged over to her; she didn’t bother looking up, but kept crying into the cloth.

“Emily!” Draco exclaimed as he bent down to her level. “Are you all right? What happened?” he asked franticly. She didn’t respond, so he became even more worried. Draco gently touched her shoulder, moving it up and down her arm and then across her back. He softly placed his hand around her waist as he lay beside her, as if they were spooning. Emily turned over and buried her face into his chest as he hugged her closely. He started rubbing her back, making a shushing noise. “Everything will be okay, Ems. I’m here now,” he soothed her.

Hearing her nickname, she erupted to a new round of tears, thinking of Remus. Draco was starting to become frantic, not knowing what he should do. He rubbed circles into her back and kissed her hair.

“I don’t really know what's going on, but I want you to know that I love you, Emily, and if I did something wrong, please just tell me,” he whispered against her hair.

She lifted her head a fraction, looking at him through her blurry vision. “You didn’t do anything. It’s all me. All me.” More tears fell from her eyes as she said this. Draco wiped them away with his fingertips.

“Don’t cry. You’re too beautiful to cry, to hurt. Talk to me.” He waited for her response, but she just watched him. His eyes were pleading but she just shook her head.

“I...I can’t tell you, Draco. I can’t tell anyone.” Emily wrapped her arms around his neck and snuggled closer to him, not wanting to let go.

“If you change your mind, I’m here,” he promised.

Emily’s tears eventually subsided and she leaned back to look at his face. He watched her cautiously, afraid she might break down again.

“Th...thanks for coming,” she stuttered.

“I'll always come if you need me, Emily. No matter what I'll always be here for you,” he proclaimed. He placed his hand on her cheek, rubbing soothing circles over her temple with his thumb.

“I love you, Draco, I really do,” she told him.

Draco leaned in and kissed her forehead, then he kissed her nose and chin, finally making it to her lips. He pecked her lightly, not wanting to cross any lines. She looked deep into his eyes, and making the first move this time, leaned towards him. He didn’t object and kissed her again, longer this time. She opened her mouth slowly, letting him invade her. She started kissing him more passionately, as if she needed to kiss him. She rolled them over so that she was on top of him and threaded her hand through his sleek hair. Her other hand moved down to his chest, while his hands lay delicately over her back. He started drifting his hands down her spine and placed them in her back pockets.

dot, dot, dot j/k, nothing happens... Let me know what's on your mind...

Emily, you've done another great job. I can't pick out anything to highlight and comment on, cause it was all very good. I do hope that Remus has something special planned for Snape. Ah, but nothing he could do to him, could make him feel better. And Remus hasn't ever been the vengeful type. Oh, well, I'll just wait for you to post your next chapter. Hope it's soon.

Thanks! Remus really isn't the vengeful type, so he will probably let Severus slide, but I'm not sure yet...The next post may be later tonight if I can finish my Calculus review... If not tonight, then tomorrow for sure... See you then

Alrighty, here's the next post! I hope you enjoy!

It was one in the afternoon when Emily made her way back to her dormitory. She expected it to be empty, thinking everyone else was in class. She hugged herself closely as she ascended the last flight of stairs. She felt empty, void of feeling. She had tears in her heart and confusion in her veins. She didn’t understand any of it. She whispered the password to the nosy Fat Lady and trudged inside. Fred was sitting in an armchair, his head in his hands, staring at the fire. George was pacing back and forth in front of Fred, looking worried. He inclined his head toward Emily and stopped dead in his tracks. Fred turned to see who had entered and jumped up from his chair.

“Emily!” they both exclaimed at the same time.

“Are you okay?” George asked, hurrying over to her side.

“Not really,” she replied, looking at the floor. “Did the news spread that quickly?” she asked them.

“We wouldn’t really know. As soon as Lupin dismissed us, we came straight here to wait for you,” replied George. He looked sincerely worried about her, and, for that, she was grateful.

“So you were in the class I interrupted then?” she asked them.

“Yeah, we saw it all,” answered Fred.

Emily nodded. “Shouldn’t you two be in class or something?” she asked.

“We have a free period. We dropped Divination last year."

Emily chuckled despite herself. “Smart move. I dropped it yesterday.”

Fred and George smiled half-heartedly, nodding their agreement.

“I’m gonna take a shower and clean up. I’ll see you later I guess,” she said after a minute of awkward silence.

The twins moved aside and she made her way up the stairs to her dormitory. She grabbed her charcoal gray sweats and a lime green T-shirt. She glanced over at her side table and saw her picture frame. Sighing, she picked it up and sat down at the edge of her bed. She watched as the little girl laughed along with her godfather as they carved a pumpkin. She watched them smile, having a good time. She envied them. Life seemed so much simpler when she was younger. Where did the time go? she thought to herself. She placed the frame back in its place and stood slowly. She made her way to the bathroom, dragging her feet. Turning the water knob to hot, she held her hand under the faucet waiting for the water to heat up. When it finally reached her desired temperature, she pushed a button and the water started spraying from the showerhead. She undressed quickly and stepped into the tub. She shivered once, causing goose bumps to flare up and down her body. She lifted her head up and let the burning water flow over her face. The pressure of the water loosened her tight muscles. She washed her hair and then her body. She shaved her legs and washed away all of the loose bubbles on her body. She stood under the burning water for a few minutes before sighing and turning off the faucet.

Emily grabbed a fluffy white towel and fastened it under her arms. She walked over to the mirror and studied her expression. She tucked her damp hair behind her ears and looked deep into her own eyes. She was looking back at Sirius Black’s daughter, a murderer’s daughter. She was disgusted with herself to have his blood pulsing through her veins. Getting sick of looking at herself, she dried herself off and got dressed. She dried her hair with her towel and pulled her fingers through it to relieve a few of the knots. She dragged her feet back to her room and put her wet towel and dirty clothes in a basket. Deciding she wanted to sit by the fire, she made her way back downstairs. Expecting that the twins had left, she thought she would be alone.

“You two are still here, huh?” she asked them.

“We wanted to make sure you were okay,” replied George.

“Emily, you know if you want to talk, we are here for you,” continued Fred while George nodded his head fervently.

Emily looked at the two red heads. Out of the entire school, these two were her best friends. They had grown pretty close last year, and she knew she was lucky to have them both. They hadn't talked much since they've gotten back this year and that was mainly due to Draco, and their time spent together. She wanted to change that; she missed her best friends.

“If I were to tell you something, would you promise to not disown me as a friend?” she asked hesitantly.

“Disown you? Why would we ever disown you?” George asked, confused.

“Just promise me,” she replied. Fred and George both nodded and she motioned for them to take a seat on the couch. Emily sat in between them and took both of their hands in hers, holding them tightly. She didn’t want to give them a chance to leave, to run away from her. She looked down at their intertwined fingers. George gently squeezed her hand, letting her know that they weren’t going anywhere.

Emily wasn’t sure how to start so they sat there in silence. “I guess I’ll start with last year. You know how I was always in the library and you thought that I was just studying?” she asked. She saw them both nod in her peripheral vision. “I wasn’t studying. I was looking for something, for someone.” Emily glanced up at the flames of the fire. “I was trying to find out who my parents were. Remus wouldn’t tell me, so I had no other choice but to research it myself. I found nothing.” She sensed their searching eyes upon her face, but didn’t make eye contact. “I don’t deserve to live,” she whispered suddenly. She heard Fred’s intake of breath and George’s gasp.

“What in the name of Merlin are talking about?” George asked.

“He’s a murderer. He’s the reason Harry doesn’t have parents,” she whispered. She held onto their hands, not allowing them to let go.

“Your Dad is You Know Who?” Fred asked incredulously.

Emily frowned. “No, he isn’t Voldemort,” she stated impatiently. She heard both of their intakes of breath at the sound of his name. “He killed those people, my Mum, he betrayed his friends.” Emily glanced at both of them but they still seemed confused. “He broke out of Azkaban,” she whispered. They both gasped and tightened their hold on her hands.

“Sirius...Sirius Black is your Dad?” Fred asked. Emily nodded and let her tears fall silently down her cheeks.

“How am I suppose to look at Harry ever again without feeling guilty? How am I suppose to be his friend when my Dad is the reason his parents are dead?”

“You're not at fault for his actions, Emily,”
George said after a little while. “You aren’t him and you never will be. Stop punishing yourself.” George knelt down in front of her, his hand still in hers. She kept her eyes on her lap, not wanting to look at him. George lifted his forefinger to her chin and brought her face up to look at him. “It isn’t your fault, Ems,” he whispered. Fred nodded his agreement from beside her.

George brushed away her tears with his fingertips and then leaned in to hug her. Fred joined in and they sat like that for a while. Emily cried softly in the crook of his neck. After about fifteen minutes, Emily pulled away.

“You’re not going to tell anyone, right?” she asked them quietly.

“No, we won’t tell anyone,” Fred promised.

“So, did you and Remus make up?” George asked.

Emily stiffened. “No, we didn’t. I yelled at him and then left. You aren’t suggesting I should, are you?” she asked. George pursed his lips and Fred looked down. “He lied to me my entire life! Why should I?” she shouted at them.

“Calm down, Ems, he was just trying to protect you,” George said defensively.

“Why does everyone keep telling me that?”

“Because it’s the truth,”
Fred answered simply. Emily looked up into George’s soft brown eyes.

“I guess you’re right,” Emily sighed.

“There’s no guessing about it. It’s the truth.”

“So, you think I should go talk to him?”
she asked the two boys. They both nodded, as did she. “I guess I’ll see you guys later. And thanks.” Emily squeezed both of their hands with hers and then let them go. She went through the portrait hole and started down the corridor for the Defense Against the Dark Arts’ classroom.

Emily arrived outside of Remus’ classroom far sooner than she had hoped she would. She peeked in through the window of the door and saw that it was empty. Taking a deep breath, she twisted the knob and stepped inside. Emily closed the door behind her and made her way to his office. She knocked lightly on the door.

“Enter,” she heard Remus say sadly. He was still upset about their interaction, which made Emily feel slightly guilty.

Emily opened the door and poked her head inside. “Is it a bad time, Professor?” she asked quietly.

Remus looked up. “Emily! I wasn’t expecting you. Of course it isn’t a bad time. Please come in,” he replied, perking up a bit at the sight of her.

“Remus, I came to apologize.”

“There is no apology needed.”

“Please let me get through this,”
she replied. He nodded and she continued. “I know it was wrong for me to slap you and yell at you.” He started to object, but she just held up her hand. “I am so sorry. I have waited for that answer my entire life, Rems, and when I found out the answer from the person that I despise the most, I lost it. He told me what I’ve wanted to know for so long in a second and I didn’t even bring it up. I’ve been asking you this question for seven years and you would never tell me. I don’t care if Snape told me out of spite and hatred; I care that it was him who had to tell me. You could have been honest, but I do understand why you didn’t tell me. And though I don’t understand how it really protects me, I’m glad you will always be there to protect me.” Emily finished and looked down at her feet, feeling ashamed at her actions from earlier.

Remus looked at his goddaughter, wondering why on earth this year had to be the dramatic one. He closed the space between them and engulfed her in a bear hug.

“I love you and I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you, but I just couldn’t bear looking into your eyes and telling you the truth. It was too much for me, Ems. Sirius didn’t just betray James and Lily that night. He betrayed you, Amelia, Pete, and me. I didn’t want to face the truth. I am terribly sorry you had to hear it all from Severus and that it has caused you so much pain. I promise you that I will not let him come anywhere near you.”

“I know you won’t, but I kinda wish you would. I would like to give him a piece of my mind,”
Emily chuckled.

“Can I ask you a question?”

“You technically just did, but I guess you can ask another,”
Emily grinned. Remus grinned back, happy that her sarcasm was finally back.

“When is this year going to become less dramatic?” he asked.

Emily started laughing and Remus joined in. “Hopefully soon, but who knows?”

“I fervently hope that it is sooner rather than later.”

“I’ll try to die it down a bit,”
Emily promised.

“You never were much of a drama queen, Ems, let’s not change that. Deal?”

“Deal.”

Emily and Remus talked for another hour or so. They caught up with their personal lives and about the upcoming full moon. Emily looked at the clock, and, noticing it was almost time for dinner, decided to go back to her dormitory to change for dinner.

The portrait swung open and Emily walked inside. Emily was grinning when she looked around the room. It was full of people. Some were trying to finish homework, while others were talking leisurely. George nudged Fred in the side and motioned to Emily.

“Well, well, well, Fred. What do we have here?” George asked his brother loudly. Everyone in the Common Room started staring at them.

“Seems someone’s a bit happy,” Fred accused. Emily chuckled at both of them.

“So does this mean you made up with Lupin?” George asked Emily.

“Maybe,” she replied, smiling. George walked up to her and started circling her. “What are you doing?” she asked him.

“Trying to figure out who you are. Because you looked nothing like this earlier,” he accused, coming to a stop in front of her.

“I guess I decided that zombies just aren’t me.”

“Nice word choice. Don’t you agree, Fred? Zombie is the perfect description.”
Fred nodded his agreement and Emily put her hands on her hips.

Fred looked at Emily, grinning. “I told you--”

“Did you know I told you so has a brother, Fred? It’s called shut the hell up,” she cut him off.

George glanced at Fred and then back at Emily. “Captain Sarcastic is back,” he grinned.

“I do believe I am, Lieutenant,” she replied.

“What does this make me exactly?” Fred pouted.

“The General?” Emily suggested. Fred perked up and grinned. They all started laughing. Fred gave Emily a hug and then Ginny came up to her.

“I’ve missed you,” she whispered in Emily’s ear, hugging her.

Emily leaned back and grinned at Ginny. “I’ve missed you too, Gin.” Emily looked around the room, taking in everyone.

Emily went upstairs to change into something more appropriate and put a little mascara on. She took her wand off her bed and pointed it at her hair. She made it less frizzy and more curly. It fell in ringlets against her back. Emily glanced in the mirror and then went back downstairs to join her friends. They all sat around the fire talking about their summers. Emily was sitting on the floor, Ginny on one side and George on the other. He looked over at her and she stared back. She gave him a quizzical look. He reached over and put a strand of her hair behind her ear. She had goose bumps where his finger lingered. She blushed and looked away from him. Others had noticed their interaction and were staring at both of them.

“What?” Emily asked the group.

“Oh nothing, nothing,” replied Fred with a mischievous grin.

“You’re delusional, Fred.”

“I have no idea what you are talking about,” he replied.

Emily rolled her eyes and the conversation picked back up. It was around six o’clock when they decided to head down for dinner.

They made their way through the Great Hall and over to the Gryffindor table. Emily glanced up at Remus and smiled. He winked back at her and she chuckled. She found a seat in between Fred and George. She looked straight ahead at the Slytherin table and scanned it for Draco. She found him staring at her and gave him a wink to let him know everything was well. He smiled, looking down, and started talking to his friend Blaise. Pansy was on his other side, a bit too close to him, listening to everything he said very intently. Emily grinned and then helped herself to some food.

*Alrighty, that is officially the end of chapter 1... Boy, was that long, or what?!
The quote about I told you so having a brother is from Breaking Dawn when Bella says it to Jacob, but in the book, Bella says it's from an episode of The Simpsons, so it belongs to the writers of that show... But anywho, Please comment.

Emily, I think Chapter 1 is officially great! And I don't care how long they are, as long as I enjoy reading them. I'm glad the truth is out and now, the two of them can enjoy each other's company, and she can be with Remus during the full moon. Ummm, is there a hint of a budding romance between George and Emily? Oh dear, I would like this to happen, but I don't do well with triangles. I'm sure you'll be tasteful. And I don't like Draco, but he is so sweet to Emily, I hate to see his heart broken. Whew! I'm glad you're the one writing this and not me. I'll be watching for you're next post.

New post time! I hope you enjoy

Chapter Two: Secrets

Things continued normally for Emily, well, as normally as they could anyway. The next month was void of drama, just as she’d promised. She had spent the full moon with Remus in his office. Dumbledore placed a few charms on the door so no one would be able to enter and then lifted them the next morning. Emily and Draco still sneaked out at night to see each other, sometimes during the daytime, too. Draco continued to torment Harry, and then started on Remus. If Emily was around when she heard him insult her godfather, she would summon a silencing charm under her breath to make him shut up. She would never get caught. They would, of course, fight about it later, but always made up with Draco promising to not do it again. He didn’t really live up to that promise; he would only make those harsh comments when she wasn’t around.

Sirius Black still hadn’t been captured, which did worry Emily, but she worked hard to not show it. George, Fred, Lee, and her hung out quite a lot. George and Fred told them their plans of a joke shop, which Emily and Lee thought was a brilliant idea. They would always brain storm new products to invent. Emily spent most of her time with the twins, which did cause some talk between Lavender and Parvati, the biggest gossips in the school. Emily ignored them and when they would come and question the three, Emily would always tell them to get a life and stop invading hers.

The Hogsmeade trip was coming up, which caused much excitement around the house. Emily had never been to the village before and was excited about going. The month of October zoomed by and before she knew it, it was Halloween morning.

Emily hurriedly got dressed into her favorite jeans and a light purple shirt with the muggle band, Maroon 5, on the front. Emily put on some matching purple converse and checked her hair in the mirror. Then she went downstairs to meet George, Fred, and Lee. After they quickly ate their breakfast, they all made their way to the Entrance Hall.

Emily and the others walked down the path to Hogsmeade, their excitement building. Once they arrived, the boys showed her Zonko’s Joke Shop. It was the most exciting shop by far to Emily. They spent most of their time in there and then the twins stocked up on stink pellets and other accessories. They showed her Honeydukes, where she bought some candy, and walked by the Shrieking Shack, where Emily couldn’t help but smile as they told her the ‘spooky’ story about it. Little did they know, Emily knew the story already. She knew where the story had formed and who made it seem creepy. Emily and the guys visited the Three Broomsticks where Emily finally got to try a Butterbeer. It is now her favorite drink. Overall, Emily had a fairly great time.

While at one of the round tables in the pub, a small owl flew in toward Emily. It had a letter in its beak. She took the letter and recognized the handwriting. The owl hooted once and then left. Emily opened the letter and started reading.

EBony,
While everyone’s in Hogsmeade, I thought we could meet. Classroom 17? I’ll be waiting.
Love,
DaMien

“Well, who was that one from? Actually, who are all of your 'secret' letters from?” George asked impatiently as he watched her read the letter.

“It’s...from Remus. He wants to talk about one of my classes. I guess I’d better get going. See you guys later,” Emily waved. She heard their faint goodbye as she closed the door to the pub.

Emily went to Classroom 17 and found Draco waiting for her. “Hey,” he said as she closed the door behind her. He made his way over to her, giving her a hug and kiss on the cheek.

“Hey,” she smiled. Emily flicked her wand and made their cushions reappear. Draco dragged her by the hand over to the window. They both sat down, making themselves comfortable. They talked for a long while about Hogsmeade and classes.

“You and Weasley sure have been pretty cozy this past month,” Draco accused suddenly.

Emily grimaced. “I could say the same about you and Pansy,” she retorted.

“You know that’s different.”

“You’re right; it is different. I’m not arranged to marry George.”

“Exactly. So why do you two flirt so much if you aren’t expected too?”

“I don’t ‘flirt’ with George, Draco. He is one of my best friends. And just because you’re ‘expected’ to flirt with Pansy, doesn’t mean you two have to be all over each other all the time. If you haven’t forgotten, Draco, I am your girlfriend.”
Emily was starting to get upset. She wouldn’t have come if she had known he was just going to make bogus accusations. She folded her arms across her chest, letting go of his hand in the process.

“How about we make a deal? You stop hanging with Weasley and I’ll stop letting Pansy hang all over me.” Draco actually sounded hopeful, which made Emily even madder. Emily stood up quickly, rounding on him.

Hi Emily, Very nice! I was so into your story, that when you said this:

I thought it was part of the story, and Emily was threatening to quit Draco. I looked closer at the begining, cause I noticed there wasn't an , ", after it, and seen that it wasn't a ", but an * . I had to laugh at myself then. I'm glad Emily had a good month. And I'm glad she and Remus got to spend the full moon together. Great post, and I'll be watching for your next one.

Here is the next part... I hope you enjoy muy mucho!

All of the students were heading back to the castle, George, Fred, and Lee among them. Fred and George hung back in the Entrance Hall, looking for Slytherins to test out their newly acquired stink pellets on. They didn't have to wait long, as some came heading in their direction a few moments later. They hid behind some gargoyles and aimed perfectly. The Slytherins they hit happened to be an idiotic bunch and never found Fred and George.

After having their bit of fun, George and Fred made their way to dinner laughing. Upon arriving, they looked for Emily, but didn’t see her. They looked up at the staff table and saw Professor Lupin. Assuming she went to bed early, the twins enjoyed a delicious steak and mashed potatoes.

After finishing the feast, Fred and George followed their fellow Gryffindors up to the Common Room, but the hall was packed. After many questions of what was going on, Professor Dumbledore finally arrived. George and Fred watched as Peeves bobbed over head. Dumbledore told McGonagall to get Mr. Filch to search every painting in the school.

“You’ll be lucky,” cackled Peeves.

“What do you mean, Peeves?” asked Dumbledore.

“Ashamed, Your Headship, sir. Doesn’t want to be seen. She’s a horrible mess. Saw her running through the landscape up on the fourth floor, sir, dodging between the trees. Crying something dreadful. Poor thing,” he said in an oily voice.

“Did she say who did it?” asked Dumbledore quietly.

Somehow, before Peeves even said the answer, George knew what he’d say. George stared at Lupin, wondering where on earth Emily could be. He was starting to grow worried. She wasn’t at dinner and someone had broken into Gryffindor Tower. What if he got her?

“Oh yes, Proffessorhead. He got very angry when she wouldn’t let him in, you see. Nasty temper he’s got, that Sirius Black.”

George didn’t wait for Dumbledore to tell them what to do. He grabbed Fred’s arm and dragged him to a deserted hallway.

“Where do you think Emily is?” Fred asked him, a sense of worry in his whisper.

“I don’t know,” replied George frantically as he reached in his back pocket.

“You don’t think he got her, do you?” he asked his brother.

George looked up at his twin. “He had better not have touched a single hair on her head,” he threatened. Fred nodded his agreement as they smoothed out the Marauder’s Map. They stood there for a long time looking for her little dot.

“Look! There, on the second floor,” Fred pointed out. “Wait a minute! She’s with Malfoy!” he gasped.

George stood there looking dumbly at the paper before snapping out of it. “Maybe she needs our help,” he replied. Fred nodded and the two took off through the secret passageways.
