For the next few months, Emily did her class work and then went home to her husband. October rushed into November and November faded into December. George and Emily decorated their house on the weekends with lights and a tree. For Christmas, Emily and George were going to be staying at the Burrow. They had finished all their shopping a week before and wrapped them all the night before they were to head over to the Burrow. Emily, George, and Fred would be sharing the twins’ room. George was a bit grumpy about this until Emily promised him she’d make it up to him when they got back to their own home. Fleur and Ginny shared a room, which Ginny was extremely unhappy with Emily about this, as if it were her fault. Harry and Ron shared his bedroom at the top of the stairs. Emily and Ginny decided to have a girls’ day and went for a walk around the village. They talked about the latest gossip and the happenings in the wizarding world. Remus surprised Emily again on Christmas Eve when he came home. On Christmas Eve night, the Weasleys, Fleur, Remus, and Harry gathered round in the living room. Mrs. Weasley tuned the radio onto a Christmas broadcast of her favorite singer, Celestina Warbeck. Emily was curled up in George’s lap in one of the armchairs as they listened to “A Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love.” Fred started up a game of Exploding Snap with Ginny while Ron kept glancing over at Bill and Fleur. Remus stared at the fire while Harry started up a conversation with Mr. Weasley. George started whispering the lyrics into Emily’s ear as she giggled. “Oh, come and stir my cauldron, And if you do it right, I’ll boil you up some hot, strong love To keep you warm tonight,” he whispered. Emily turned her head into the crook of his neck and kissed it gently. She rested her forehead against his skin as he played with her fingertips. Her other hand was tightly interlaced with his other hand. “This is our first Christmas together as a married couple,” Emily whispered. “I know,” he whispered back. “I love you,” he whispered as he brought her fingers up to his lips and kissed them. “As I love you,” she whispered into his neck. He chuckled as her breath tickled his skin. Her lips brushed his silky skin and he sighed in content. Emily closed her eyes to the sound of his thumping heart. The next thing she knew, she was being carried up the stairs by her husband. “Mmmm,” she sighed. “Sleep, my love,” George said quietly. “Mmmm, I have to change,” she mumbled. George somehow opened the door to their room. Fred stayed out in the hall until Emily and George finished getting dressed. George helped Emily take off her red, long sleeve dress and green skinny jeans and change into a pair of silky shorts and a comfy T-shirt. Emily crawled under the covers while George took off his jeans and shirt. He told Fred that it was safe to come back in, and then George slipped into bed too. Emily immediately curled up into his side as he wrapped his arms around her. He kissed her forehead as she drifted off into sleep again. George prepared a breakfast in bed for himself and Emily. Fred had already left the room. So, they were alone as they ate their waffles, bacon, eggs, and strawberries. Afterwards, they opened the presents on the end of their bed, which ranged from their traditional Weasley sweater to new sweets from Harry and Ron. The only presents that weren’t there were the ones from each other. They had both decided to give each other their presents in a more private setting. Emily and George walked down the stairs hand in hand, sporting their new sweaters. She looked around at everybody in the kitchen as Mrs. Weasley finished making lunch. Everyone had on their new sweaters too, well, all but Fleur, who apparently didn’t get one. Emily watched her entire family as Mrs. Weasley gushed over the presents the twins got them and Ginny picked a maggot out of Harry’s hair. Emily smiled as George poured her a glass of tea and sat beside her, taking her hand. Ron knocked over the gravy and Bill cleaned it up. She giggled as she watched Ron’s face drop and Fleur kiss Bill. “You are as bad as zat Tonks,” Fleur said. “She is always knocking—” she continued. “I invited dear Tonks to come along today,” Mrs. Weasley interjected. She glared at Fleur before she continued. “But she wouldn’t come. Have you spoken to her lately, Remus?” Emily watched her Godfather fidget uncomfortably for a moment. “No, I haven’t been in contact with anybody very much,” he responded. “But Tonks has got her own family to go to, hasn’t she?” “Hmmm, maybe, I got the impression she was planning to spend Christmas alone, actually,” Mrs. Weasley said. Before Mrs. Weasley could turn her annoyed look at Remus into an argument, Harry interceded. “Tonks’ Patronus has changed its form. Snape said so anyway. I didn’t know that could happen. Why would your Patronus change?” Harry asked. “Sometimes… a great shock… an emotional upheaval…” Remus said slowly after he finished swallowing his turkey. “It looked big, and it had four legs,” Harry said. “Hey… it couldn’t be—?” “Arthur!” Mrs. Weasley exclaimed. She rose from her chair, staring out the kitchen window. “Arthur—it’s Percy!” she said with her hand over her heart. Everyone stared out the window. Emily could feel George’s hand tense in anger around her hand. Percy wasn’t exactly welcome anymore. She peeked at his expression. He didn’t look all too happy to see his brother. Ginny stood up to get a closer look. “What?” “Arthur, he’s—he’s with the Minister!” Emily glanced at the man with Percy. He was limping a little and his hair and coat were flecked with the white snow. Before anybody could react, Percy opened the back door and stood in the doorway. There was a moment’s silence where Emily stared at her brother-in-law. “Merry Christmas, Mother,” Percy said stiffly. “Oh, Percy!” Mrs. Weasley said as she threw herself at him. Emily vaguely listened as the Minister started talking. She kept glancing at George and Fred and the way they were glaring at their older brother. Emily looked over at Percy, who was standing there awkwardly, staring over everybody’s heads. He looked like he didn’t want to be here at all. Emily studied him and then her husband as the Minister asked for Harry to accompany him for a stroll. Her head snapped to Harry, who finally broke the silence by agreeing. “It’s fine,” he said quietly as he passed Remus. As Mr. Weasley opened his mouth to speak, he added, “Fine.” “Wonderful!” Scrimgeour exclaimed as he let Harry pass ahead of himself. “We’ll just take a turn around the garden, and Percy and I’ll be off. Carry on, everyone!” The atmosphere around the kitchen wasn’t very delightful after Harry and Scrimgeour left. Fred, George, and Ginny all glared at Percy. Emily held George’s hand tightly, trying to make it so he couldn’t do anything. Everyone realized, as soon as Scrimgeour singled out Harry, that Percy wasn’t here to say hey to his family. He was here so the Ministry could get to Harry. After about fifteen minutes after the two had left, before Emily even realized what was happening, George, Ginny, and Fred all started throwing mashed parsnip at Percy. Percy fumed in the doorway before turning his back on his family and storming out of the house. Mrs. Weasley immediately started crying and the day was basically ruined for her. Deciding they needed to cool off, Fred went back to the shop to work while Emily took George home. She Apparated him home, since the last time he was mad, his Apparating wasn’t at its best. George went to the kitchen and started putting dishes and silverware in cabinets, slamming them closed. Emily walked slowly into their kitchen after she took off her jacket and hung it in their small coat closet. George slammed another cabinet, causing Emily to jump slightly. “George,” she whispered. He didn’t register her at first, so she tried again. “George,” she said a little louder, but not by much. He turned slowly to face her, leaning up against the table top. His eyes were trained on the floor. Emily took the fact that he had calmed down enough to face her as a good sign, and she sighed in relief as she moved over to him. She wrapped her arms around his waist and looked up into his eyes that were trying so hard to avoid hers. “Georgie,” she whispered. His eyes met hers and he heaved out a great sigh. He bent his head lower and rested his forehead against hers. “He is such a git, I’m sorry you had to see that,” he whispered. Emily shook her head a fraction. “Don’t be sorry, it’s not your fault he’s a git,” she said quietly. He smiled slightly with a minute chuckle. Emily smiled in return as she kissed his chin. “You know,” she said with a smirk. “This is our first Christmas together as a married couple… And we are alone,” she whispered seductively. Emily started kissing George’s neck lightly before bringing her head back up to rest against his. George cracked into a smile as his arms wrapped around her. “Mmmm, you’re right. How rude of me to think about that prat when you’re in my presence,” he chuckled. George kicked off from the counter and picked Emily up. She wrapped her legs firmly around his waist as he started for the first set of stairs. Emily giggled as he finally made it to their room and they plopped down on their plush mattress. “Happy Christmas, Georgie,” Emily whispered as he kissed her collar bone. “Happy Christmas, Ems,” he said against her neck. *Alrighty, let me know whatchya think :) Disclaimer: If any quotes seem familiar, they are the one and only JK Rowling's :) |
