David Raymond scowled as Kashan Aleen passed him in the hallway, the next day. To his surprise, the girl stopped on seeing him, and made directly for him.

“What’s wrong with her?” he asked Tanzeel quietly. His best friend shrugged.

“Um, David?” Kashan said, sounding her usual, confident self as she stepped up to him. David did not reply.

“Right,” Kashan said. “This is exactly why I wanted to talk to you,” she told him. “Is there any particular reason behind the way you’re treating me? Or the way you scowl at me all the time when you see me?”

David raised an eyebrow. “Like you don’t know,” he shot back.

Kashan pretended to be surprised. “You mean because I turned you down?” she asked bluntly.

“Don’t remind me I ever asked,” David replied darkly.

“Well, I’m sorry,” Kashan began. “But you have the bad reputation of being a player. I mean, it was only a day after you broke up with Orla.”

David scowled heavily, once more. “Well, Orla was never my type,” he said defensively. “And I liked you, so I broke up with her. And no, in case you’re wondering, I don’t like you anymore.”

“Well, you should have done some explaining,” Kashan said sensibly, completely ignoring his last statement. “Really.”

“You should have asked,” David shot back.

“I’m sorry I didn’t, then,” Kashan said sarcastically.

David laughed, all of a sudden. Kashan breathed an inward sigh of relief; so her charm was finally beginning to work. For a moment there, she had thought it had somehow managed to die. “You’re too cheeky, Kash,” he said warmly. Kashan quietly registered the use of her nickname.

“Really? Thanks,” she replied. Then she glanced at her watch. “Gotta go, or Professor Maline will kill me.” She turned around and, several seconds later, she had disappeared out of sight.

Behind her, David Raymond looked as if Christmas had come ten months earlier.

“I knew she’d fall for me, sometime or the other,” David said ecstatically to Tanzeel for the umpteenth time that day. And, for the umpteenth time that day, Tanzeel remained silent. That was when David exploded.

“What is wrong with you?” he asked Tanzeel, clearly irritated. “If you don’t tell me why you’re so down in the next five minutes, you can consider our friendship broken; and I mean it, El. Why the heck are you so thoughtful, every time I tell you she’s fallen for me?”

“Because she hasn’t,” Tanzeel said quietly.

David raised an eyebrow. “And what is that supposed to mean?” he demanded. “That she just walked over to me and began that conversation because she wanted to be reprimanded by Professor Maline? Huh?”

Tanzeel shook his head. “That’s the whole problem, Dave,” he began thoughtfully. “Why did she talk to you that way? And please don’t tell it was because she loves you. I know you’re handsome and everything, and I know every other girl would die for those eyes of yours, but this is Kashan Aleen we’re talking about. And the way she talked to you – That’s not the way the real Kashan talks. She was pretending to be interested in you; I could tell it from the way she spoke. Kashan never gets that warm with anyone so quickly.”

David frowned. “Are you trying to imply that she just wants me to admit that I love her?” he asked.

Tanzeel shook his head yet again. “No,” he said, still lost in thought. “I don’t know just what she wants, but whatever it is, she’s trying to use you to get it. There’s a reason behind the way she acted today, and I really wish I knew it; because I have a feeling it’s nothing good.”

“If you say so, El,” David said finally. “I’ll keep my eyes open, but I’m going to ask her out again, no matter what. Only, just not in the coming week, or she’ll start with that whole ‘player’ thing again.”

Tanzeel did not reply. He merely shrugged.

i must again apologize for so not being able to post. but that was awesome! next time i should maybe wait longer then see and get the info of the days i missed so fast.. :x that was a seriously brilliant plan, and i cant believe tanzeel cant even figure it out. i mean if i did go figure without the kashan's part, i wouldve figured it out by the seventh page at least. But like kashan i wouldve definitely used that plan too. if tanzeel is hot, tanzeel is rude, tazeel means a world to me, hell yeah i am so gonna use that plan! but i wouldnt have talked the way kashan did, giving tanzeel abit too much clues o_o iwoudlve called him away in secret and just maybe drag lily into the conversation =x im sure my best fren wouldnt mind, right? (she's totally bailed me on loads of accounts, but i didnt really lie. “Hey, Kash,” David said, dropping into the seat besides her at lunch. Tanzeel was nowhere in sight and Kashan realized, with a jolt, that he was still at his table; he had not bothered to come over, even for his best friend.

“Hello, David,” she said politely. “What are you, uhh, doing at my table?”

“Nothing really,” David replied. “I just though I would say hi.” He certainly showed no plans of leaving soon, though. Grabbing an ivory plate, he began to tip one of the many dishes in front of them into it. “How were classes today?” he asked her pleasantly.

“Fine,” Kashan said, shortly. The briefer here responses were, the more talkative David would get; Kashan knew that. She also happened to know that he wanted her to talk back. And she wasn’t going to let him guess her plan by doing that.

“Is that all?” David asked. “Didn’t anything interesting happen? I mean, you’re supposed to be the trouble-maker in chief around here.”

Kashan smiled. “Thanks, but it’s actually your class that has all the potential trouble stocked inside,” she said sweetly. Beneath the table, Lily kicked her, apparently to indicate that she was getting too chummy; Kashan forced herself not to kick her best friend back.

“I guess it’s my turn to say thanks, eh?” David said, grinning. He quickly cleared his plate and stood up, his hands in his robe pockets. “It was nice talking to you, Kash; see you around.” With that, he had left, only to join his gang of friends at the Goldam table moments later.

Kashan distinctly saw Tanzeel frown and lean in towards David to ask him something, apparently even more displeased with David’s answer than he already had been.

“God, I’m excited about this,” Kashan said, apparently thrilled to bits. A week later on, and things between her and David had definitely heated up; but that was not what Kashan was excited about right now – It was the first Quidditch match she would ever be playing, and that, too, as team captain.

Glancing at her wristwatch, Kashan realized with a jolt that there were only ten minutes to go before the match commenced. “I feel sick,” she whispered to Lily, who had been trying to encourage her ever since morning. It was a good thing Kashan had not had anything for breakfast, or else she would have vomitted.

As she walked out on to the pitch, some time later, shouldering her Firebolt, she could hear applause ringing out from every side. The rest of her team followed and, up above, the commentary began. Madam Midge stepped over to them, whistle in hand. “Captains, shake hand,” she said solemnly.

Kashan grasped Roger Turner– the Redden Captain’s – hand briefly before swinging one leg over her broom. Then the shrill hoot of the Quidditch Instructor’s whistle sounded, and she had kicked off, spraying mud in all directions. It was wet, moist weather, with a cloudy sky, but Kashan was feeling too energetic to notice any drawbacks about the clime. As she waved down to Lily, before speeding off in search of the snitch, she could feel her excitement mounting.

Red-den scored. Then Greensoph. Half an hour later, Red-den was leading with twenty points, and still the snitch was nowhere in sight. Gregory Mustang, the Red-den seeker, was peering cautiously around. And then Kashan saw it: a glint of gold right next to Gregory. A moment later, she was speeding towards it. Gregory heard her, turned around, and –

The snitch had disappeared.

Groans rang throughout the stadium. Kashan could not say she was not relieved, though; she knew that Gregory had had more chances of catching the snitch than her, which was exactly why she glad the tiny, gold ball had disappeared at the last moment.

“And Turner scores yet again. He’s definitely seems excellent form tod – Wait a second; what’s this –? Yes, it seems Mustang has seen the snitch!”

What? Kashan jerked herself out of her thoughts as the commentary rang in her mind. In several seconds, she was almost neck-to-neck with Gregory. Almost, but not quite. Gregory inched forward, outstretched his hand – and then the whole stadium suddenly erupted into cheers.

Kashan landed on to the ground, tears leaking down her cheeks, the rest of her team crowding around.

– Then she opened her palm, and let the golden snitch fly off.

*squeeeeals!* Nice fake! Why was she crying? And ok. Things had "heated up" with david? You're going to need to explain that a little more dear.

HA! He was a bad commenter. Kash had the snitch all along!
