OK, I need everyone's help I can possibly get. There's a poem contest at my school, and I want to enter, but I can't decide what poem to go with! Should it be

1) Soul Sista
2) A Nighttime Prayer (the revised edition, since there's a 23 line max)
3) A new poem
4) Another poem

Please help me out!

uuuuuh work out some new stuff and then I'll decide!

radcliffes~girl 09-12-2003 07:18 PM

Here's a new one I came up with on my way home from school today. I'll give a bit of background after.

Whatever Happened?

Whatever happened to us, the kids of today,
Is it true that our childhood was wasted away?

Whatever happened to riding your bike,
Roller-blading down the street, flying your kite?

Whatever happened to inviting a friend,
And playing long games that seemed never to end?

Games made with costumes, props, and long drawn out plots,
From as simple as House to the Princesses of the planet Socks.

Whatever happened to spending the day,
Where alone or with outhers, all that happened was play?

Swinging on swings and climbing up trees,
Playing freeze tag and skinning your knees.

Whatever happened to that feeling of joy,
You could only get after a day with your favorite toy?

Whatever happened to those long afternoons,
Playing with Barbies as they travelled the moons?

Whatever happened to running to see
Your favorite cartoon before someone took the T.V.?

Whatever happened to calling another,
To form a play date, arranged by your mother?

Whatever happened to long snowballs fightes,
That ranged from 1 hour to many nights?

Why do we lose the memories of playtime as we grow,
The bottom line, I guess, is truly to show

That one day, House isn't fun anymore,
You call up your friends to talk about a homework score.

Guys start to see girls, and girls start to see guys,
That seemed to have changed before their very eyes.

Barbie is forgotten, the firetruck rusts,
The rest of your childhood gets covered in dust.

Your best friend from 3rd grade who lives down the street,
Barely says "Hi" anymore when you meet.

In less than a year or two you find,
You're a new person, you got a new mind.

A mind that cares about make-up, or that History test,
Working hard at soccer to become the best.

Spending hours on the phone talking to your friends,
About this thing and that, its never ends.

One day, you find you remember,
Your active activites, mostly June to September,

So different is your life now, time just flew by,
You have to stop and just plain wonder why?

Why did we grow up, and stop caring of things
Like dodgeball and cooties and cheap pastic rings?

Whatever happened to a childhood friend treasured so dear
Who's very existance seemed to disappear?

Whatever happened to us, the teens of today,
The adults of tomorrow, the kids of yesterday?

We grew up.

A bit of a change from what I usually write... but I like it a lot. I got the idea from thinking about the summer three years ago, when I spent nearly every day with the girl down the street. Gee, I miss that.

Please review!

oh wow thats really powerful, but personally i think it sounds better when the author reads it to you out loud over the phone (you know what i'm talking about jenn). that was one of the most powerful things i've ever read...

OK, are you ready for a little darkness? Here's a poem I wrote on the spot for a story that it'll be in. Hope you like it!

Crimson

Clearly is my task laid before me
Right are the rules that I set for myself
I fear only the thought of what others shall say
Many before have tried, and failed to
See the reason for which I have done this deed, they
Only see what they want to see
Not my dreams, spilling out in streams above my palms

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, what do you think? Yes, the story is dark, but hey, it comes, it goes, whatever that means!!
Please review!
You know I love you all,
Tons of
-:heart:-
