Dear Diary,
I do believe to stop this. It's getting ridiculous. Draco has tried to talk to Pavarti, but it's so messed up now....I gotta stop this. Harry promised to help. Kit and Ron are doing their best. But we can't really do anything. They just have to realize this for themselves...

Draco was in his dorm. His mother had managed to make sure he got his own room. Draco was grateful for his mother. She was the only one who was caring towards him. That had been true, until he met Pavarti. For awhile, she completed his life. Now...he wasn't so sure.

The good thing about his room was, he got a private post. Now a large. snowy owl flew down the chute.

"Hedwig.." Draco muttered, and reached for her. Hedwig ruffled her feathers; she still didn't trust Malfoy. Draco murmered to her, and she gave up the letter grudgingly.

"Stay for a minute Hedwig; help yourself." He pointed to the owl cage. Hedwig flew over and began to eat. Draco unrolled the parchment.

Dear Draco,
I promised Hermione that I would help you with Pavarti. But before I do that, I need the whole story. Meet me by the entrance hallway in twenty minutes.

P.S. I mean the whole story.

Draco smiled.

"Alright Potter, you'll get the.." He glanced at the letter, "WHOLE story. I have nothing to hide."

He went over to Hedwig. Benging over the desk, he scribbled an answer.

Dear Harry,
Sure, I have nothing to hide. 20 minutes.

Draco

"Hedwig, come here, I'm ready."

Hedwig inched towards Draco.

"Oh come here, I'm not going to bite you." Hedwig allowed him to tie the letter to her leg. She flew out of the room, quicker than she flew in.

Harry had gotten Hedwigs reply five minutes later. Now he was walking towards the entrance hallway. He didn't really want to talk to Mal-..Draco...but Hermione had asked him to. And he would do it. For Hermione's sake.

Draco came along a few minutes later.

"Looks like we're early Pott-Harry."

"Yea...Draco. So let's go." They started walking, Harry leading.

"Where are we going?"

"Hogsmeade." Harry and Draco climbed into the one-eyed witches hump, and in a few minutes, were in Honeydukes. They sneaked out of the celler and walked out into Main Street. It felt great to be out of Hogwarts and into the clean, spring air.

"So...where shall we go Harry? Three Broomsticks? I'm buying."

"Well, since you sound so determined, let's go." Harry smiled, and they walked to the Three Broomsticks.

The bar went quiet when the two of them entered. Everyone was shocked to see them together, and expected a fight. But Draco brushed past them, and sat at a table. Madam Rosmerta came by his table, slightly nervous.

"Can I get you anything sir?"

"Two butterbeers, for Harry and I please."

"Yes sir." She walked away, relieved. Harry grinned, and sat down in front of Draco. The noise stirred up again.

"Nice job Draco." Draco shrugged, and put a modest look on his face.

"It's been so long since I bought for anyone. I should be thanking you." The two boys laughed, and their butterbeers arrived. Harry held out a galleon.

"Here's a tip. Since he's buying, the tip's my responsibility." Madam Rosmerta curtsied, and took the next table's order. Harry turned back to Draco, and took his butterbeer They clinked glasses, and drank deeply. Harry sighed. "Alright Draco, now that the formalities are over-"

"BURP! Now the formalities are over." Draco grinned.

"Whatever Malfoy. Now, what's the deal with you and Pavarti?" Draco's smile slid off his face. He buried his head in his hands.

"Harry, what am I going to do? She won't talk to me. I can't tell her that it's a lie. All her thoughts. I don't want to get her hurt. Is that a crime Harry? Is it? You know how the Slytherins are. They'll rip her in two, then attack me."

Harry thought about it.

"How do the Slytherins see?"

"They have to have purebloods. That's it. They're very self-centered."

"Well....the Patil family are a pureblood family. They are, in fact, distant relatives of the Ravenclaw family. Which is a very pure strain. So...where's the problem?"

Draco stared, gaping at Harry. Then he gave a loud whoop.

"Harry! You mean it's ok if I date her? No problems?"

"Oh, there will always be problems. But none with your House. And if there is, maybe you can get a transfer. It's happened before. And you've changed."

Draco thought long and hard.

"I would...love...to be a Gryffindor. I don't want to be a Slytherin anymore."

"Would your family approve?" Draco laughed.

"Harry, my family would kill me. But I would have my mother's approval. She alway's does what's best for me. And this is it."


The two boys walked out of the pub, the money on the table. They walked back to Honeydukes. Draco stopped. He bought 10 cases of Gunther's Greatest Chocolates. He grinned sheepishly at Harry.

"She...she likes these. Let's go."

Harry and Draco went back to Hogwarts...as friends.

Dear Diary,
Draco and Harry went off to see Professor Dumbledore. I wonder what they're up too. He won't tell me! He says it's a suprise...

Draco and Harry walked up to the Eagle. Draco turned to Harry.

"I don't know about this Harry. What if I'm a true Slytherin at heart? What if the Sorting Hat says no? What if-"

"Draco, c'mon. If you've really changed, then the Sorting Hat will see it."


"Lemon Drop." Harry said, and the stairs appeared.

The two boys, one Slytherin, one Gryffindor, entered the stairwell.

Harry raised a hand to knock on the door, but the door opened by itself. Draco gave Harry a nervous glance, then stepped into the room. Harry followed.

Dumbledore was seated by Fawkes. Fawkes flew over and sat on Harry's shoulder. Dumbledore smiled.

"Now, what can I do for you, Mr.'s Malfoy and Potter?" Draco looked at Harry for help, but he busied himself with Fawkes. Draco took a deep breath.

"Headmaster sir? I...I would...like to know that...isitpossibletochangeHouses?" Drao mubled that last bit quickly, looking at the ground. Dumbledore stared amazed at him.

"Being a Slytherin..."

"Has no more glory, Headmaster. It doesn't bring me pleasure anymore. Not the guys, not the girls, not even my private dorm. I want to see if I changed enough to be a Gryffindor, sir."

Dumbledore shook his head, then got up.

"Draco, the Sorting Hat never lies. If it saw Slytherin in your heart, then that's where you belong."

"But sir, please, can't you try? Draco's changed." Harry spoke up for Draco. He was rewarded with a look of pure gratitude from Draco. Dumbledore brought over the Sorting Hat.

"Now Draco, don't be disappointed if you're still a Slytherin. This sort of change rarely happens."

The Sorting Hat was placed on Draco's head. Draco heard the Sorting Hat's voice in his right ear.

"Back again, Malfoy?"

"Yes sir. I want to-"

"You want to be a Gryffindor. Well, the first time I looked into you, all I could see were evil deeds, and a bad heart. Now you say you've changed, is that right?"

"Oh yes sir. Please, have I changed enough?"

"Well, let me take a look....hm.....I guess you could be....hmm...umhum....yes.....you could be a...GRYFFINDOR"

Harry grinned, and clapped as hard as he could. Dumbledore gave his small smile, and took the Hat off Draco's head. Draco hugged Harry, then Dumbledore. Harry thanked Dumbledore, then led Draco towards the door.

"Harry?"

"Yes sir?"

"Make sure that Draco bunks with you, alright?"

"Yes Sir!"

Then two boys, both Gryffindors, walked back to their Common Room...together.

Dear Diary,
I'm glad that Harry came when he did. Otherwise, I think something terrible would have happened...

Hermione and Pavarti were in the Common Room. Hermione was trying to comfort Pavarti....but to no avail.

"Hermione, it's over. I should have known that Malfoy wouldn't want to be with me. I guess he thinks that I'm not a pureblood. I mean, that's the only possible reason."

"Pavarti-"

"I mean, I'm a descendant of Rowena Ravenclaw. If that's not pure, then I don't know what is!"

"Pavarti-"

"What does being a pureblood have to do with anything anyway? I mean, I could get along just fine without my ancestors blood. It's not my fault-"

"PAVARTI" Pavarti stopped.

"What Hermione? I'm ranting here!"

"I know, but you're attracting attention." People were turned around, staring. One of them happened to be a very nasty first-year, by the name of Finnigan Skewart.

"Awwww.......is the poor Indian confused? Doesn't she wish-"

"SKEWART! One more word and I'll have you in detention so fast your head will spin!" Hermione was standing, sparks flying from her wand. Pavarti bowed her head. She had heard racial jokes before, and was tired of them.

"What? Can't she fight for herself? Or is she just a scaredy cat?" Skewart was up too, and faced Hermione.

"Knock it off Skewart, and that's a detention. Go ahead, make it two."

"Fine Buck-Tooth, I will!"

Hermione gasped, and flung out a nonverbal spell. Skewart was sent flying across the room. One of his friends got up and leapt at Hermione. His hands knocked her wand away, and reached for her throat.

"'Mione!" Pavarti cried out, and scrambled for the boy. Hermione started to gasp.

Suddenly, the portrait hole burst open. Harry and Draco came walking in.

"Harry! Help!"

"Hermione!" Harry yelled, and hexed the boy off her. Draco ran towards the boy, and Harry went to Hermione's aid. Draco pulled out his wand and pointed it at the boy.

"Look, take your friend Skewart and get out of MY Common Room. NOW"

The boy grabbed Skewart and scurried out of the Common Room. Draco turned to Pavarti.

"Are you alright? What happened hun?"

"Finnigan was making fun of me. Hermione hexed him, then that guy attacked her.....did you just call me hun?"

"Yes I did. Pavarti.....I'm sorry for the way I treated you....and....I just wanted to let you know that....I'm a Gryffindor."

Pavarti pushed him away and looked him straight in the eye. "What did you say?"

"I said I'm a Gryffindor. For you. And I love you Pavarti. Please take me back. Please?"

Pavarti grinned, then kissed him.

Dear Diary,
I'm so glad Pavarti and Draco are back together. And Draco, of all people, a Gryffindor?!?!?! Well, I guess some people can change for the better, and Draco's living proof. But I wonder what they'll do about Quiddich teams....

Hermione walked with Harry out to the Quiddich pitch. The rest of the team would show up in a few minutes. Harry was a little nervous.

"Hermione, I just don't think that this is a good idea."

"Harry....what's wrong with it? The team's bound to accept him...He's a GRYFFINDOR!" Harry took her gently by the shoulders.

"But..'Mione. He used to be on the opposing team-"

"So he can tell you usual Slytherin tactics. He'll be perfect! Oh please let him join!"

"All the positions are taken!" Hermione stamped her foot.

"NOT TRUE!! Dean quit after he broke his broom. Draco can try for a Chaser! Geez! What are tryouts for if there are no positions open?"

"Alright alright!" Harry laughed. "You win!" He kissed her. Hermione kissed him back, but before they could turn it into a full blow out snog, the rest of the team turned up.

"Hope we're not interrupting." Ron said, his arm around Kit.

"Not at all." Harry said, and gave Hermione a final kiss. He surveyed the team. Their ranks did look smaller, Hermione was right.

"Where's Ginny?"

"She left the team. It was interferring with her studies. O.W.L.'s." Ron shook his head.

"Well, looks like we're looking for two Chasers. Alright, everyone trying out, line up facing me!"

A small line was formed. Harry could see Draco, looking slightly nervous. Good. That meant he would play well.

"First, we're going to try some simple warm ups. Mount up!"

Soon, all the boys were out on the field. Out of all of them, only Draco and a girl were flying well. Harry singled them out.

"What's your name?"

"Candi Summers."

"Candi, you and Draco fly around. I'm going to throw the Quaffle at you, and try to score against Ron. Ron, mount up!"

Ron flew towards the goalposts. Harry tossed the Quaffle to Draco. Draco raced towards the goalposts. Harry intercepted him. Draco started to swear. Harry stopped the tryout.

"You have to be aware of your suddoundings! Another player isn't just going to say, 'Please, can I have the Quaffle?' You must BE AGGRESSIVE! Now back into play!"

This time, when Harry moved in, Draco threw the ball to Candi, who made a neat score past Ron. After a few more rounds, while switching people in and out, Harry called off tryouts.

"Thank you all for showing up. I know that it's a difficult choice to pick out members, but I have made my decision. The new Chasers for Gryffindor will be....Candi Summers, and Draco Malfoy! Please lock your brooms back up in the broomshed. Thanks for all of you that showed up!"

Draco came up to him.

"I really made the team Harry?"

"Sure did Draco. You fly much better without so much stress. I'd be glad to have you on the team. And Candi is a great find! I can't wait to try her out."

Draco spotted Candi.

"Hey, Candi!" She turned around.

"Hi Draco. Glad to be on the same team as you."

"Can we walk you back up to the castle?"

"Love it." Harry and Draco took Candi's arms, and walked her back to the castle. Hermione saw them, and huffed. Kit laughed.

"Chill 'Mione. He's just being courtious. Why don't you walk me back up with Ron?"

"No need ladies." Ron said and put an arm around each of them. "Plenty of Ron to go around."

Hermione and Kit laughed, and walked back up to the castle together.
