Finally, the group made their way back to the holding cells where they found the spy guarded by Harry and Shacklebolt. The man sat on the hard, cold floor, head on his knees.
The man looked up as Moody opened the door and came inside, followed by Harry, Remus and Shackelbolt. The others remained on guard outside in case the man tried to overpower the men inside. But the man must have seen that escape was futile, not wanting to tangle with Moody, especially. He just stared up at them.
"You have two choices right now," Moody growled, holding something in his hand. "Either you drink this willingly or we hold you down and force you to drink it. Which will it be?"
Moody extended his hand, which held a glass full of what looked like pumpkin juice, but everyone knew it also held veritaserum as well.
"An don' try to dump it because there is more where this came from," Moody growled again. "Either way, you're gonna drink it!"
The man took the glass from Moody, and, giving him a look of hatred and resentment, tipped the glass to his lips and drank.
"There," Moody said.. "That wasn't too bad, was it? I imagine you were rather thirsty after having been cooped up in that cubby hole anyway."
The man just stared straight ahead.
After a few minutes, they saw the man shudder slightly, a sign that the veritaserum had taken affect.
"Alright," Moody said. "We already know who you are and where you are from. But what we don't know is who made that cubby-hole and one whose orders were you directed to spy on us from there. So,first, who ordered you here and whose magic created that hiding place?"
The man looked up at Moody.
"I don't know. I never met the one giving orders or the one who made the hiding spot." He said. "I got my orders from a man named Zackarias Smith back in Bulgaria, but he was just a messenger. He is higher up, yes, but not the leader. Very few know the leader's identity. The hiding spot was here waiting for me."
"Zackarias Smith!" Harry and Hermione exclaimed together. "We know him from school!
"Later!" Moody ordered, silencing the two shocked friends.
"Who let you into the ministry?" Moody demanded, focusing again on the prisoner. "Who led you to the hiding place?"
"Again, I don't know," the man said. "They kept well hid underneath a cloak. I was told to meet them late at night at a specified time. I came in by floo powder and they were there waiting for me. They led me to the hiding place and kept me fed and watered."
"Could you tell if was a man or a woman?" Moody asked.
"Well, they definately tried to diguise their voice, but I believe it was a woman. They didn['t say much, but there was enough said for me to make that guess," he answered.
"So this person works here at the Ministry?" Moody asked.
"I would have to assume so," the man said. "They knew their way around."
"You keep saying they," Lupin said. "Does that mean there is more than one person here that is involved in this?"
"Yes," the prisoner said. "Although I never saw anyone else here at the ministry but the one I believe to be a woman."
"Do you know how many others?" Moody asked.
"Two or three," the man said. "But I don't know if they are actually work in the ministry or not. They are local, however, and as I recall, one goes by the initials BZ, and there is one more that they call Marcus. The one that may be the third, I believe is also a woman, but I don't know what they call her. I have seen her only once for a short time back in Bulgaria. She has very dark hair and an arrogant attitude, that's all I know. She is not real tall, but not short either. And she is rather thin. That's it. That Marcus looks like he is half troll, all with crooked, yellow stained teeth. When he talks it sounds more like grunting than speech. BZ is quite good looking, really, dark hair, and tall. That's about all I can tell you."
"All right," Moody growled. "So, tell me, what is it this new "leader" is looking for. What do they want, and why are you involved with them."
"They don't like the ministry rules, and neither do I," spat the man. "They want the mudbloods and half-breeds out and our world cleansed of the creatures that believe they are as good as we full-blood wizards. This here ministry protects these creatures to some degree, and treats half-breeds and mudbloods as equals! It must stop!"
"Do you realize, that under such conditions there would be fewer than perhaps 10 that would fall under the so-called pure-blood category," Mooday replied. "And I can tell you with certainty, sir, that most of them work here in the ministry. That would mean that, whoever it is who would would rule under what you are wanting so badly, would be very much alone and most likely a half-breed themselves! What say you to that? I have checked your records, and you certainly are not one of those fullbloods! That's what I find so funny about men and women like you! You all want to feel superior, but your claims to that so-called superiority are usually just acts of over agression against others - like a bully on the playground! Why not simply admit to what you really want!"
"And what would that be?" The prisoner said, scowling.
"Power!" Moody said. "Your own grandfather was a muggle, which makes your own father a "mudblood"! Your mother was only a half-breed, as you put it - and that make you less than half a full blood wizard! Remeber Voldemort, whom people like you always admired for some strange reason? His mother was a full-blood, but her side of the family was so inbred it made them, despite their arrogance, mentally and physically defincient. His father was a muggle! Voldemort himself was only a half-breed. So when are you all going to smarten up and call the spade a spade? It is power over others you seek, and nothing more!"
Moody spat, disgusted, on the floor, turned on his heals and walked out without another word.
The prisoner said nothing, just kept staring at the wall.
Lupin relocked the door and everyone went back upstrairs except for Shacklebolt, who volunteered to stay behind to guard the prisoner.
Scrimgeour broke the ice on the way back up to the Auror's Office.
"Moody definately has a way with words, doesn't he," Rufas said, smiling at the others, who chuckled as they made their way back out the doors and into the hallway that led to the lifts.
"He sure does," Lupin said. "He sure does!"

Thank you so much for that point! i was wondering when people would realize that there really was no "full-blood" wizards left in the world, and that most of the people preaching that, no matter how much they tried to hide it were "half-bloods!" You are awesome! i loved the post!

The Auror's Office and the Ministry along with the Wizengamot met up in the Auros's Office a short time later to discuss what the prisoner had told them.
"So there is at least one person employed by the Ministry who is involved in this group?" Scrimgeour told them. "And the prisoner believes it is a woman. We have just requested that our Aurors be sent out to pick up the one man we know by name and they will also try to find out who the other two are and pick them up as well. We think we know who BZ is as well thanks to Harry, here. We also may have some idea who the woman could be thanks to his recollections as well."
"What do you want to bet it's Blaise Zambini and that aweful Pansy Parkinson?" Hermione whispered to her husband.
"I wouldn't bet against you," Ron whispered back, smiling.
"So," Scrimgeour continued. "Until they return, we must keep our eyes open. If anything unusual is suspected, please report to myself or, if I am not available, to Mrs. Hermione Weasley. She will know who to contact. Hermione, I must see you in private after this meeting, alright?"
Hermione nodded.
"Ginny too!" He added.
Ginny also nodded that she understood.
The meeting was dismissed after a few questions from the Wizengamot members, who then stood up and made their way back to their offices.
Scrimgeour rose to his feet as well.
"I will meet you both back in the office in 10 minutes," Scrimgeour said to Ginny and Hermione.
"Will you be going to search for those three?" Hermione asked Ron after Rufas left.
"Yes," Ron answered. "Harry, Neville, Tonks and Shacklebolt along with some junior members will also be leaving later this afternoon. Mum has asked that you and Ginny stay at the Burrow while we are gone, is that okay with you?"
Hermione and Ginny looked at each other and smiled.
"It will be like old times," Hermione said. "Please tell your Mum well come right after work."
Suddenly Hermione's hand flew to her stomach! She stood, a little hunched and very still, but there was a smile on her face.
"Are you all right?" Ron and Ginny both blurted out, concerned despite the smile on Hermione's face. Both rushed over to her.
"Don't be silly!" Hermione said. "Everythings just fine! I just felt the baby move for the first time is all!"
"Wow!" Ron said as he put his hand on her slightly rounded belly.
A short time later, Ron removed his hand, looking downcast. "I couldn't feel anything," he said dejectedly.
"Of course not silly!" Hermione laughed gently. "It's still too early. But it won't be much longer before you will be able to feel it! Perhaps another month, SO, you better take care of yourself, daddy!!" Her look now serious and searching Ron's eyes.
"I will," Ron said. "You can count on that!"
Ginny quietly left the room so that they could be alone. Ron and Hermione didn't even notice that she had left as they hugged eached other tight.
Several minutes later, Ron and Hermione left the roon and found Ginny waiting for them outside.
"Ron, " Ginny said. "Would you please tell Harry that I will be down to see him as soon as our meeting with Scrimgeour is over?"
"Sure Ginny," Ron answered, smiling at his younger sister. "I will tell him."
She and Hermione waved goodbye to Ron and made their way back to their office to meet Rufas.
A short time later the two women walked into their office and found that Rufas was not waiting for them alone. Moody was also with him. They walked into their bosses office and shut the door behind them.
"We want you to set up that meeting with Umbridge as soon as possible," Rufas said.
Ginny and Hermione looked at each other in surprise.
"But you said that you didn't think she was involved in this?" Hermione said.
"And my feelings on that matter still haven't changed," Rufas said. "But Moody feels, and I agree, that right now we can't discount anyone."
The girls glanced at Moody, who nodded darkly.
Suddenly, Hermione jumped to her feet and began pacing back and forth. Startled, the others just sat there watching her. They could see she was deep in thought.
Hermione then stopped, turned, and walked over between Moody and Rufas and leaned foreward, placing both hands down, palms flat, on the table. She looked at them both, who stared at the wrapt expression on her face.
"I just could be her!" Hermione said. "Remember her Inquisitorial Squad?
"Her what?" Moody said.
"Her Inquisitorial Squad!" Hermione repeated. "After she broke up the group of Dumbledore's Army that led to Dumbledore's being replaced by Umbridge as Headmistress, she gathered a group of students - all Slytherins, to help her keep order at the school. Draco Malfoy was in it, and so was Pansy Parkinson. I am not sure about Zambini, and I know that Flint was already gone from the school by then, but what if they kept in touch, Pansy, Zambini and other Inquisitorial members. If Umbridge if after power, and we all know how much she loves being in control! Well, do you it is possible SHE might be leading the plot against the Ministry which had turned it's back on her and dismissed her after she and Fudge were exposed for the horrible things they did?"
Moody, Ginny and Rifas stared at her in surprise, but after a few seconds Moody got to his feet.
"Hermione," he said. "You just might be on to something here! Good work! I must get back to the office and tell the others what you just told me. Right now, do nothing where Umbridge is concerned until I get back to you. If you are right, she is much more dangerous than we thought!"
"Do you really think it's possible, Alistair?" Scrimgeour said, looking up at him.
"Aye!" Moody said. "It's possible! I will report back to you as soon as I can, Rufas."
Ginny and Hermione watched him as he limped across the room and opened tha door. Then he was gone.

Later that evening, Ginny and Hermione apparated to the Burrow where Molly and Arthur Weasley were waiting for them. Ginny had said goodbye to Harry earlier and the Aurors had taken off for their assignments. Molly had made their favorite - onion soup, which took the chill off the early winter's day. Fred and George stopped by to eat as well, taking a needed break from their exceptionally busy joke store.
The twins tried to keep Hermione and Ginny's minds off their husbands and the potentially dangerous work they had been sent to do by showing them some of their newest joke inventories.
"I wonder if we could hide some of those in Umbridges office?" Ginny said with a laugh. Hermione joined in, recalling how frustrated Umbridge got when students successfully used the twin's various store inventory against her! Of course they couldn't say anything about the suspicion surrounding Umbridge since the capture of the spy, but both knew the other was thinking about it. It was a pleasent evening and the girls got a good night's sleep there.
The next morning, however, it was back to business, and the first thing that greeted them in the office was a meeting with Moody.
"The attempts to round up our suspects is going well," Moody said "Two of them have already been taken in, and we may have discovered even more, whom we are checking on right now. Can't tell you much yet, but we can tell you that we have captured Blaise Zambini, Marcus Flint and a witch named Millicent Bulstrode. They are now after the witch that the prisoner mentioned. Turns out she is higher up than even Zambini, and no one knows where she might be hiding. But Mrs. Weasley was right when she told us yesterday about the group Ubridge formed. Everyone captured and wanted so far are former Slytherin students."
"Does that mean Delores Umbridge is the one behind it?" A Wizengamot witch inquired.
"It raises the suspicion, yes," Moody said. "But so far we have found no proof. We have two of our Aurors following her right now, and they will report any suspicious activity on her part immediately. We have a new special Auror whom we recently discovered. They have some very special talents, and I assure you, little will escape their detection."
Hermione raised her eyebrows at this. How come she hadn't heard of this new Auror? She felt a slight twinge of resentment as she was supposably still an Auror despite her position in the Ministry and her pregnancy. She swallowed that resentment though as she reminded herself how quickly everything was moving right now in the attempt to catch these new troublemakers. Surely Moody would tell her later when he had the time.
"As far as meeting with Umbridge is concerned," Moody said, looking at Ginny and Hermione, "I think you should hold off for a while. But I want to know what she says if she approaches you again in the halls or lunchroom, and Ginny, you are to be with Hermione at all times when she leaves this office, understood!"
Ginny nodded quickly and Hermione also nodded her head to show she understood.
"I want to meet with you both in my office at 2 this afternoon," Moody said. "Can you be there?"
"I have a meeting with the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures at 1 p.m.," Hermione said. "But it should be over by 2. I suppose there is a chance we could be a few minutes late, but we will be there."
"That will suffice," Moody said. "Send a flying fax if anything changes."
"Of course," Hermione said.
The meeting then broke up with everyone going to their respective offices. Hermione did the same to do some studying up for the meeting she had after lunch. She like to research the meeting itineraries of each office before they met so she would be familiar with as much of what was being discussed as possible. She was making a name for herself with the departments and gaining their respect. They were also beginning to value her opinions on those matters of importance they often discussed during these monthly meetings. Hermione had also noticed that the members of the Wizengamot now took her seriously and treated her with more and more respect even though, by now, she had only attended one of their meetings in her own capacity as First Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic. Even Rufas himself treated her more like an equal than an employee! She was gaining confidence and found herself very glad that she had accepted this position! She was feeling at home here.

Aww...that's wonderful for Hermione! First she feels her baby move, then she feels at home in her new job...Great news!
This whole Umbridge thing is a bit scary...just because Hermione lead her into a forest full of Centaurs doesn't mean she needs to get revenge! Sheesh...LOL

Just wait until you find out just who this new Auror is!!!!! You are just gonna laugh, but I assure you, this Auror brings natural talent with them and if you think about it later, you will see exactly what I mean! No one would even suspect that this person would ever become an Auror! This new Auror will be exposed soon and I can't wait to see your response!!!!! Until then, anyone care to venture any guesses?

I am really interested to see who it is, I have some ideas, but I am not sure, I have to go back and research what you have already written to make sure they are not already an Auror! great post! Good guesses but wrong!!!!! This person cannot be found in the Auror's list found here either, although I think I might have mentioned them in passing once! I'll have to go back and check!!!!! Okay! They have been mentioned once in this story, but not as an Auror. This is a very new assignment as Hermione doesn't even know about it yet, but it was Hermione herself who gave Moody the idea of approaching them about the job! Any more guesses?

Luna? Grawp? I went back through the whole story to try and find out who it might be, but I honestly have no idea. It could be anyone, really...

Your'e about to find out who this new Auror is!
Hermione and Ginny headed to the Auror's Office at about 1:55 p.m.. Hermione had been right in thinking the other meeting would not take longer than an hour. They entered the office to find Moody waiting for them.
"I have a new Auror to introduce you to," Moody told them. "But this person remains under Top Secret security status. This person was not trained as an Auror and has been undergoing stringent training for the last few days only. Hermione, it is you I have to thank for giving me the idea that we could use this person. She has unique abilities that, with the exception of few people, remain relatively unknown. Her past career also gave her exceptional surveilance skills that we can use. And because of that past career, it is unlikely that anyone would ever suspect that she is now working for us!"
"Who is it?" Hermione asked, puzzled.
"Come, I'll introduce you." Moody said, raising to him feet.
He led them back into the private portion of the office where those who worked undercover had their offices. Hermione saw the fireplaces that made up the Aurors own secret floo network. This was necessary because those who were undercover for any reason could then come into the office without being seen. Hermione herself had used it to attend secret meetings at the office.
Moody came to a door and opened it, motioning for Ginny and Hermione to enter. They looked around the comfortable office, but saw no one.
"Well, where is she?" Ginny said.
"You can't see her?" Moody asked, smiling.
Hermione looked around closely.
"There!" she said suddenly, pointing to a small beetle sitting on the leaf of a plant, a look of unpleasant surprise on her face. "It's Rita Skeeter!"
There was a soft "pop" and the former journalist, who had lost favor with the Daily Prophet after being forced by Hermione to write Harry's story for the Quibbler, stood before them, blond curls framed her thin face. She stared at Hermione as both girls stared back at her. It wasn't a particularly pleasent moment for them at all.
"Pull up a chair and sit!" Moody growled.
The three women obeyed.
"Remember what I told you both when ya got here," Moody said.
Hermione sat for a moment, thinking.
"Yes!" she said suddenly. "I understand. She certainly has those unique talents!"
"Thank you, Hermione, I think," Rita said, giving her former nemisis a small smile.
Hermione smiled back.
"This is very important," Moody began. "Can the three of you forget the past and move forward? Otherwise you will jeopordize the mission!"
Rita stood up and walked over to Hermione.
"It has been years since circumstances forced you to do what you did, Hermione. I don't blame you for what you did. You gave me a real wakeup call when you forced me to right that article. What I was doing was wrong and I admit it! But, Hermione, I never tried to help the Death Eaters or their crazy leader! And I am truly sorry that I allowed Fudge and the Daily Prophet to pressure me into writing those things I did about your friend. Back then it seemed I only looked at the dark side of life. I have changed a bit since then."
Hermione watched her eyes as she spoke, Ginny too. It was surprising to both of them that they found her to be sincere.
"Everyone makes mistakes," Hermione said, holding out her hand to Rita.
Rita smiled and took Hermione's hand, then Ginnys and she held hers out as well.
But Rita hadn't lost all her pomp, as she demonstrated by grabbing the girls and pulling them to her in a big hug.
"With your bright minds and my inconspicuous appearance, we can do marvelous things to help any mission!" Rita said.
Moody couldn't help but laugh.
"Don' squeeze our Hermione too tighly," He cracked. "She's gonna have a baby in the spring!"
Rita released her hold on both girls, and turned to look at Hermione. "Congratulations!" Rita said, beeming. "I am so happy for you!"
"Thank you," Hermione said, rubbing her side where Rita had pulled her into the hug.
"Okay now," Moody said. "Pleasantries are over, it's time to get down to business!"
Everyone sat down around the table where Moody was sitting.
"This is the plan," Moody told them. "Starting on Monday, Rita here will be planted in Delores Umbridge's Office. She has informed me that, as an insect, she requires little nourishment as long as there is a plant in the room. We all know that Umbridge has several plants in her room, so that is already taken care of. She will get into the office very early on Monday, before Umbridge arrives, by riding on my shoulder as I make my rounds. I will be dropping off a note to her, sliding it under the door where she will hitch the ride inside. That note will be written by you, Hermione, apologising for not being able to meet with her this week due to other engagements. You will offer to meet with her next week and ask her to send you a time when she'll be free. Then, when she replies, you will be sure to be there at that time. I have arranged this with Rufas and he will okay any schedule change you might have due to this. Ginny, of course will go with you. Rita will be there and will alert us immediate to any possible trouble. Now, Rita will be keeping tabs on who Umbridge is meeting, where she goes and so on. She will even travel along with Umbridge when she goes home at night. This is most important because if Delores is up to anything, that is where most of any sort of plotting will take place. Rita is aware that certain people know about her ability to become a beetle, especially the former Slytherins that would be involved, and she can effectively hide herself from them without missing anything they might say or do. She knows she must not be seen by anyone, period."
"Knowing that Umbridge woman," Rita said. "She would squash me the moment she saw me, never realizing what I really was."
"That's right," Moody said. "Rita knows what the stakes are and has still agreed to help us."
Hermione and Ginny glanced at her, they couldn't help but respect her for this.
"Any news from those in the field?" Hermione asked.
"Good news!" Moody said. "They have been able to locate that woman we were looking for. They captured her early this morning. They are bringing back, in total, eight prisoners. They should arrive here at about 4 a.m tomorrow morning. It is up to you whether you want to be here when they arrive."
"I do!" Ginny said
"So do I," Hermione said. "Who was the woman, anyway?"
"Another former Slytherin," Moody said. "A Miss Pansy Parkinson."
Hermione and Ginny's eyes widened, but found that they were really not all that surprised.
"Pansy was definately a part of the Inquisitorial Squad," Hermione said. "She was very close to Draco Malfoy back then. I got the feeling though, that Draco only just put up with her, although she was supposably his girlfreind at the time."
"I remember her all too well," Rita said. "So eager to invent things against others for me to use in my stories! I thought she was a disgusting little snake! Whatever happened to Draco? He was the one who first discovered that I was an unregistered animagus."
"Draco, believe it or not, changed completely after Dumbledore's death. He was finally rescued, barely alive, after his father and Voldemort were killed. It ened up that the whole assassination of Dumbledore had been plotted by Severus Snape and Dumbledore himself. Dumbledore was dying, Merlin knows he was well over 150 years old, and the curse that destroyed his hand when he destroyed one of Voldemort's horcruxes, was attacking him from the inside as well. He had only a few weeks to perhaps a month left to live. This way, he thought, and rightly so, he could help save more than one innocent life by making it appear that Snape had turned back to Voldemort. We all beieved it, until that final battle where Snape ended up helping Harry destroy Voldemort. Without Snape's help, Harry surely would have died in that battle, and many others along with him! Snape was a remarkable Occlumens, so Voldemort never suspected that Snape and Dumbledore had been plotting against him! Anyway, Draco was rescued and is now living quietly somewhere in Wales with Severous Snape. I hear Draco has recovered well and is working for the Ministry there. Snape has retired, but still helps the Ministry on occasion."
"Wow!" Rita said softly, "I never would have guessed! What's a horcrux?"
"Nevermind," Moody growled. "Ya don't wanna know! Very evil thing, anyway."
"But Sir," Hermione said. "You can't just leave it at that! She's curious, and curiosity fuels the desire to know! Is she one of us now or not?"
"She is," Moody agreed.
"Then know this much," Hermione told her. "A horcrux is an object that a dark wizard can use to make himself nearly impossible to kill, but at a terrible price! You saw what Voldemort looked like - no longer human, that was the result of using horcruxes."
"That's enough," Rita said, digustedly. "I don't want to know any more!"
"I don't blame you," Hermione said, smiling grimly.
Hermione looked at Moody, who nodded at her.
"Sometimes I think you're wiser that I am; sometimes," Moody said, looking at Hermione.
"Oh, I doubt that, sir," she replied, blushing, but deeply moved by what the man had said.
Alright, off with ya both!" Moody smiled. "Rufas is gonna blow a fit if I keep ya from him any longer! Get to writing that letter, Hermione, and I guess I'll see you both later, when your men arrive!"
