This is a longer post than the others; I hope you enjoy it! :P

“Let’s go,” I suggested quickly.

We headed down the street slowly. I stuck my hands in my pockets, not knowing what to do. My mind was floating in the clouds and my heart was fluttering madly. Does Oliver feel the same? I wondered. He appeared to be quite calm. His way of walking seemed the same as ever.

“Is there anywhere you want to go?” He asked, fixing his eyes on me.

I shrugged. “No where particular.”

“Good,” he replied with a grin. “I have somewhere to go that you might find cool.”

I walked beside him into a small café type of store. Many couples were bent over the small tables, talking quietly. A charming aroma lingered in the warm air.

We claimed a table in the corner of the café. A young waitress soon came over to take our order. She pushed back tendrils of hair that kept falling into her round, jolly face. “What can I get for you?”

“Butterbeer?” Oliver asked me. I agreed, so he requested two butterbeers.

After the waitress had drifted off with our purchases, Oliver leaned back in the wood chair. His eyes penetrated mine. They seemed to be reaching out to me…

Blushing, I glanced away, only to observe other couples holding hands and kissing softly. An uncomfortable feeling came upon me. This place was so—different—from all the places I’d visited in Hogsmeade.

“So…how are you doing?” Oliver inquired somewhat awkwardly. His hands fidgeted on the tabletop.

“Pretty good. I can’t complain. How about you?” I tried hard not to make my voice shake.

“Life’s fine. Our first Quidditch match is coming up in the next month, so I’m really looking forward to that. Harry does seem a bit ‘out of it’, if you know what I mean. It’s probably due to Sirius Black escaping and all.” Oliver paused for a moment to catch his breath.

A slight shiver ran up my spine. Talking about criminals always had that effect on me. “No kidding,” I agreed. “I hope that this year won’t end up like the last. After all, it is our final year here.”

He bobbed his head. We were quiet for a while. After a few minutes, the butterbeer came. Oliver swiftly took out some coins from his pocket to pay. “It’s on me,” he explained with a lop-sided grin.

After we’d finished our butterbeer, we looked outside, where the wind had picked up. Dashing out of the shop, we pulled our hoodies on. I tried to tame my hair (unsuccessfully) since it was billowing around my face, limiting my vision.

“Do you think we should go back now?” Oliver asked over the howling wind. The streets were nearly deserted; most students had decided to leave.

I nodded as I pushed my hair back. We sprinted towards Hogwarts with the cold nipping at our heels. The wind was continuously gathering more and more strength.

“Come on, before the rain comes,” Oliver shouted over the howl of the gusts of wind. He grabbed my hand and I picked up my pace.

I couldn’t help but feel tingling in my hand as he held it. His was warm and strong. My heart thumped in sync with my footsteps. I could tell that he wasn’t even running; he was jogging because I couldn’t keep up with his long strides that could only develop by playing Quidditch for years on end.

We reached Hogwarts just before the rain started to patter on the pavement. Soon it was pelting down on the roof, drenching the unfortunate people who were still outside.

Once we were inside, Oliver let go of my hand and we pulled off our hoodies; it was much warmer in here. “Should we go back to the Gryffindor common room?” He inquired.

Nodding, I ran a hand through my hair to make it appear normal after the wind had made it a complete mess. Our steps were slow and careless as we made our way to the common room. I subconsciously kept glancing at his hand, silently hoping that it’d reach for mine.

He walked me to the door of my room. Uncertain of what to do, I turned to him. “Thanks for the fun time.” My lips formed into a timid smile.

Oliver grinned broadly and, for a moment, looked down. “No problem. We should do it again sometime.” He edged close enough to me that I could smell his strong fragrance.

I fixed my eyes on his face, not wanting to look away. Our eyes locked for a few moments. “Uh, I’ve got to go now,” he muttered, pink in the face. He reached over and gave my hand a squeeze before waving and descending the stairs.

More of my story:

“Great catch, Grace! You beat Harry that time!” Oliver shouted from the ground, face turned upwards towards me. I was hovering on my broom in the sky, holding the golden snitch that kept squirming in my hand.

My teammates were flying around, practicing scoring and hitting bludgers. Harry and I were having a contest to see who could catch the snitch the fastest. I was losing terribly; the score was 1 to 9 for me. Nevertheless, steady encouragement from Oliver brightened my spirits. Harry was looking quite triumphant in his certain victory. Now and then, even he would smile and cheer me on.

My spirits lifted with each dive and dip of my broom. The wind had died down, but insisted on blowing my hair slightly.

Oliver released the snitch once more into the air. It whirled around, looking like a smear against the lush green of the stadium. I instantly dove towards it, with Harry hot on my heels. The snitch was zooming amazingly fast. My fingers were inches away from its glowing body. I urged my broom faster and faster, reaching and reaching…

A hand, out of nowhere, nabbed it swiftly. Looking up, I saw Malfoy’s face sneering down at me. “Looking for this, Mudblood?” The snitch fluttered restlessly in his palm. His piercing gray eyes bored into me. Behind him stood a few other students from his group.

Anger bubbled inside of me. “Yes, thank you,” I growled and grabbed it from him.

Harry landed on the turf beside me on his broom with an air of annoyance. “What are you doing here, Malfoy?”

Malfoy straightened up and eyed us suspiciously. “If I’m not mistaken, this Mudblood here isn’t under the consent of any teacher to play or even practice. We’ve told Professor Snape.” He glanced around and added in an unworried voice, “Oh, look. Here he comes now.”

The rest of the team had already gathered to find out what was wrong. No one spoke. “Get out,” Harry snarled at Malfoy. His veins were pulsing in his forehead.

Malfoy stuck up his nose and calmly left. Those behind him were sniggering and shooting glares at us. I tried to keep my face emotionless, but couldn’t, when I locked eyes with Leanne in the crowd of Slytherins. She gave me an apathetic look and shrugged, then walked away. My eyes lingered on her back as she sauntered away.

We could only watch as Professor Snape came striding towards us in menacing steps. A look of scorn blanketed his face. I could smell his stench, which made me feel sick to the stomach. Actually, I was already sick to the stomach from seeing my best friend amongst the Slytherins and not making an attempt to defend me.

Sorry, school and basketball has been really busy lately...but I present to you the next portion! *drum roll* :)

“Well, well,” Snape began, clucking his tongue. “The Gryffindors are creating trouble. Again. Grace Allen, Oliver Wood, come with me.” He managed a menacing smile and pushed Oliver and I forward. “Oh yes, and I will deduct fifty points from Gryffindor.”

The pit in my stomach grew with every footfall. I wondered what would happen. Would the team hate me forever?

Oliver gave me a sad glance as we walked towards the school. Not wanting to face the world, I stared at the grass, longing for a hole to appear and swallow me up.

Snape continued to thrust us onward. Unfortunately, Professor McGonagall appeared around the corner. I could feel Snape’s wicked smirk of victory. Professor McGonagall spotted us immediately and hurried over.

“What’s happening, Severus?” She interrogated sternly. Her eyes flicked to each one of us.

“I understand that Oliver did not seek your permission to let Grace play as back-up seeker for Gryffindor,” Snape said in a slick voice. He glared at me once again with ice-cold eyes.

Professor McGonagall’s stare was severe. “What?” She gasped in disbelief. Her eyebrows slanted into dark lines of disapproval. Her eyes focused on Oliver. “I thought you were more sensible than that, Oliver,” she scolded. “From the start you very well knew that my authorization was necessary for any changes within the team.”

“Exactly my point,” Snape agreed. “I’ve taken fifty points from the Gryffindor house, but I think that a consequence is needed for this behavior.”

I wanted to kick him. Hard. I knew that this meant that I would be banned from the team before the first match. My teeth gritted together.

Maybe it was only me, but a slight expression of regret flickered across Professor McGonagall’s face. Regaining her composure, she straitened her back. “Yes, of course. I believe that Filch needs help cleaning the trophy room. They can help him tonight, beginning at eight o’clock. No magic will be allowed.”

Snape nodded solemnly, but I knew that inside he was glowing with pleasure. He excused himself and ambled towards the school.

Next portion...

When he was out of sight, Professor McGonagall turned to us. “I’m sorry about the punishment, you two, but with Professor Snape standing there…” her words trailed off. “Of course,” she added in a stricter voice, “The detention will do you good. I hope that next time, Oliver, you will consult me first?”

Oliver nodded slowly with a distraught expression on his face. His hands fidgeted in his pockets.

“And Grace, I’m afraid you will not be able to continue to train for the Gryffindor team. It’s against the rules. And besides, if you did join, you know that all of the other teams would immediately demand the same treatment,” Professor McGonagall concluded. “Well, good bye for now.”

We watched silently as our headmistress strode in the other direction without a second glance backward.

My mouth could not form the right words for at least a full minute. Everything seemed to freeze; the one thing I dreaded had come true in an instant. Stealing a glance at Oliver, I could see that he was also absorbing the news with a saddened heart.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I scrubbed the trophy vigorously, driven with frustration. It was already nine o’clock; Oliver and I had been cleaning for an hour. My hands were sore from polishing the plaques of honor. Filch hovered in the background, making sure that we didn’t do anything against the rules.

“I’m so sick of this,” I grumbled through grinding teeth, hoping that Filch didn’t hear me. I moved on to the next trophy, which I noted was a Quidditch award. This didn’t lift my spirits whatsoever.

“Same here,” Oliver agreed. He had completed many more trophies than me, despite my efforts to speed up. “I don’t know how Muggles do this every day!”

Filch crept over to us. “ There’s something I must do for a while. Don’t create any trouble when I’m gone,” he warned in his usual husky voice. The look on his face confirmed that if we didn’t obey, we’d get into a large mess.

Oliver didn’t say anything, but nodded, not taking his eyes off the Quidditch trophy he was cleaning.

The moment that Filch closed the door, Oliver slammed the trophy down on the shelf. “When are we going to be allowed to stop?” He raged as if I weren’t there. “This is so stupid…” He slowly calmed down, and then gazed at me sympathetically. “Sorry about that,” he muttered. “That was really immature.” He picked up another medal and started polishing once again.

I tilted my eyebrow, partly in amusement. A smile tugged at my lips and I found myself trying to stop from giggling. I just stood there for a while, shoulders shaking, and stifling sniggers.

He must have seen my reaction in the corner of his eye. “What?” He asked in a more light-hearted tone. Once again he set the medal down. “What’s so funny?”

Merry (belated) Christmas!!!
