Draco’s Pov.

Why was it so hard to walk away? He had one job to do; give her the packages, and leave. Maybe throw a few insults in there for good measure. But he had failed to do one of those things, and very nearly failed to do another.

Draco was confused. He was angry at himself that this should be happening to him. NO, he told himself, this isn’t happening. You’re wrong.

But how can i be wrong? A voice sneered inside his head. We feel the same things, you and I. We see the same things, experience the same scenes. Where we disagree is on the path. You know the correct path, it would be simple. She could love you.

He shook his head to clear it before he could linger on that idea.
But he couldn’t deny that it had been hard. Hard to leave, and hard to walk away from those eyes. They fascinated him. They were warm, honey coloured and beautiful. But at the same time managed to convey so many emotions at the same time.

You saw something in those eyes, the voice in his head sneered. Something you don’t want to admit to yourself. That is why I am here. You wanted to touch her skin, to feel her hair. And you will not stop wanting to, never. You can keep me out if you try, but I will win. You know I will.

Draco broke into a run along the corridor, trying to clear his head.

Hermione turned the packages over in her hands, slowly making her way back into the common room. The names on the packages were written differently. The first said “Harry Potter” in the writing that was obviously a girl’s. It was rounded and loopy. The other, read, “Hermione.” No second name. The writing was neat, small and spiky.

After quietly running Harry’s up to his dorm, she settled herself in the largest armchair by the fire to open the package. It was slightly bulky, and it rattles a bit. She gently tore the paper back.

The first thing she saw was a letter in the same spiky penmanship. She held it by the fire so that she could read:

She shook the rest of the paper out, and something jangled out of it, falling into her lap. When she looked down, she gasped.

It was a long, silver chain – real too, by the weight of it. The chain itself was beautiful. Tiny markings ran around it in dips and swirls. But it was not this that made her gasp.

Two pendants swung from the chain. The first was a lion, unbelievably realistic, and beautifully carved. Next to it, swung a tiny silver snake, half-coiled. Hermione fumbled for the clasp and put it on, and it fit perfectly around her neck, as though it was always meant to be there. The mini Gryffindor and Slytherin pendants swung side by side.
