Walk

Because the christmas holidays were fast coming to an end, and because they knew that they would have no sucess whatsoever at tackling Malfoy in his natural environment, Harry and Hermione agreed that they would wait untill they were back at school to talk to him.

The journey back to school was not a pleasent one. Ron was still talking to neither Harry or Hermione, Hermione felt increasingly nervous and tense about the next time she would see Malfoy, and Harry couldn't believe that, at some point, he was going to have to be civil to Malfoy and would be working to bring him closer to the group whe, on any other occasion, he would be running in the other direction. However, the time came further than they thought.

They had been on the Hogwarts Express for about an hour, sitting in a kind of awkward silence, when the compartment door slid open.

"Ah!" Malfoy stood at the door, flanked by Crabbe and Goyle, looking triumphant. "Here we are! Weasle, King Potter and the Mudblood."

Harrys hands balled into fists. But he stared strait ahead, not acnolaging the blond boy at the door.

"What, not speaking today are we?" he smirked. "Not even you Weasley?"
Ron looked up in distaste.

Malfoy turned his attention to Hermione. It was easy bait, to insult them while they sat there and took it. He sniggered.

"You're quiet too," he said, accusingly.

She looked up at him, tears in her eys, and he froze. For just a moment, the tiniest flick of movement. Then he turned, and walked out of the compartment.

"What the hell was all that about?" Said Ron, speaking for the first time in days. Hermione wiped a tear from her cheek.

Illusion

It was dark. Hermione stood in the shadows of the castle, just watching. Taking in the sounds and the scents of her surroundings. A slight breeze streamed around her, curling her hair around her shoulders and face. She let them linger. No one was here to observe.

She looked up automatically. The sky was a deep, velvet purple, glittered with a thousand diamonds, each of which sparked to their own rhythm. And at that moment, she felt weightless. She had no troubles, or worries, or thoughts. Just those of the beautifulness of her surroundings. She could do anything tonight; she could fly and not fall, she could swim to the bottom of the lake and not drown, she could jump off of the highest turret of the castle, and land softly on her toes. It was a good night, she thought to herself.
Footsteps were approaching - breaking though her silent reverie. Muted slightly by the dark grass, they stopped beside her. But she did not jump or start, because nothing would hurt her tonight.

For a few minutes, Hermione and the owner of the footsteps stood side by side in silence. When she turned, she was still calm. It was as though she had known who the footsteps belonged too all along, and so the owner came as no surprise to her. He was a little taller than her, wearing black with his hands tucked in his pockets by his side. His silver hair shone brighter than the moon. He was looking at her. Not scowling like he usually did, but looking with polite, knowing interest. She returned his gaze, feeling contented.

Draco Malfoy reached out a white hand – made paler in the darkness. He put his arm around her waist, and curled her into him. She felt secure, locked against his chest. His other hand found the back of her head, and began to softly stoke her hair. She listened to the steady rhythm of his heart, his even breathing.

Eventually, she looked up, longing to see his face. He gazed down at her with intense eyes. Slowly, in the light of the moon, he bent his head to meet hers. Their lips gently brushed, testing. He smiled and bent again, this time kissing her harder, and she obliged. They remained like that for a long while. When they broke apart, Draco‘s lips moved to Hermione’s ear.

“I love you, Hermione Granger,” he whispered. His voice silky smooth...

Hermione suddenly awoke, breathing heavily. As she looked around her, her heart plummeted. She was in her dormitory, and she had never left it.
