Cedric breathed a sigh of relief. “Great! I’ll meet you outside the Ravenclaw common room, then, at 6:30 on that night.” When I nodded, he added, “And you can call me Ced instead of Cedric.”

The night of the Yule Ball finally arrived and I found myself frantic to get myself ready. My dress hung by my bed, wrinkle-free, and my shoes were placed right under the dress. Soon I was changed and then proceeded to apply make-up. Marietta did my hair, as she was the experienced hairdresser of the group.
I was done before everyone else and my friends encouraged me to go down by myself, so that Cedr—Ced and I could walk to the Great Hall undisturbed. I approved of this idea and check the mirror once more before heading down daintily to the main common room. Quite a few heads turned and some fellow Ravenclaws waved at me. Waving back, I stepped through the portrait hole.
Ced was waiting for me outside, leaning against the staircase post and brushing a hand through his hair. When he saw me, he immediately straightened up and beamed. “You look…stunning,” he complimented, and I was happy to hear that it was genuine.
With a nervous giggle, I replied, “Thank you.”
Holding out his arm for me to slip my hand through, Ced directed me to the Great Hall, where I would hear soft music playing and the sounds of mingling students. Wow, he’s got muscles, I thought to myself with an inward giggle. I felt like I was floating.
When we arrived at the Great Hall, I breathtakingly took in our surroundings. The Great Hall had been transformed; magical snow fell lightly from the enchanted ceiling, which displayed a clear, starry night. Christmas trees lined the wall and everything was sparkling.
Ced introduced me to some of his Hufflepuff friends and their dates before it was officially time to start. Professor McGonagall reminded us that we were to open the Yule Ball with a dance.
My grin widened when the opening music started and the champions along with their companions walked through the crowd of students. I waved to my friends and they gave me good-luck smiles.
Taking my waist at exactly the right time, Ced guided me across the shining floor. His hand was trembling slightly, but thankfully his other hand, which held mine, was not sweaty. I melted under his piercing gaze and nearly forgot that we were in front of everyone else. Soon, the pressure was relieved and everyone else joined in.
