“I’m going to find Draco.” Ginny said and walked off to find the Slytherin compartment.

Fred and George were about to call their sister back to them, but noticing she wasn’t listening to Ron’s rants, they decided to walk away to cause more havoc and mischief and trouble. And after giving up, the trio walked to the back of the train to their usual compartment.

“Harry, are you alright?” Hermione asked, seeing the raven haired boy rub at his scar.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just flashback that’s all.” he said.

Hermione looked at her friend with intense worry creasing her angelic features.

Moments later, a worn out Cedric walked in with a roll of parchment.

“Hermione, Ron. Prefect meeting’s about to begin.” he said breathlessly.

Hermione stood up and hugged him. “Come on, Ron. Can’t be late for the prefect meeting.” she giggled and walked with Cedric to the Prefect compartment, Ron following.

“Students! Quiet, please.” Minerva McGonagall said watching over the 8 Prefects with the exception of Ginny, who seemed reluctant to leave Draco.

“Miss Weasley. It is not appropriate for you to be here.” McGonagall said.

“Please, professor. She’ll keep quiet.” Draco pleaded, keeping a tight hold on Ginny.

“Mr Malfoy. I do not approve of this, and she is no exception.” McGonagall told him sternly. But seeing as Ginny wouldn’t budge, she sighed.

“Very well. One sound out of you, Miss Weasley and you’re straight back into your own compartment, 10 points deducted and you will be kept away from Mr Malfoy. Is that understood?”

Ginny nodded understandingly.

“Right. Partnets for Prefect duties are as follows: Granger & Diggory, Chang & Weasley, Bailey & Davies and finally Malfoy &-”

“I’m going to be with Ginny for this, I’m not being paired with pug Parkinson!” Draco cut across McGonagall.

“And I’m not being with snotty Roger Davies!” Elenor Bailey, a Hufflepuff blonde girl shouted.

“Silence! Very well Mr Malfoy. You will be with Miss Weasley, but like it or not, Miss Parkinson is still your Prefect partnet. Elenor, you WILL be paired with Roger Davies, he’s the only half decent Ravenclaw boy with high grades.” McGonagall said. “Meeting dismissed.”

Cedric & Hermione raced each other back to the trio’s compartment. Hermione collapsed onto the chair, giggling. Cedric sat next to her.

“Have a nice time?” Harry asked, amused as Ron walked in.

“Yeah.” Hermione giggled, breathless.

“True love eh?” Harry said jokingly.

“Harry, shush.” Ron said. “I have to tell you something. Away from ‘Queen Elizabeth’ here.” Ron laughed.

“Oi! It’s ‘Lady Jane’ Not ‘Queen Elizabeth’!” Hermione said. “And whatever you say to him can be said now, in front of me.”

Ron sighed in defeat. No point in arguing with that. It was the truth. “Fine.” her said. “I kind of like Lavendar Brown. Dunno what’s possessed me, but, Merlin I think I actually love her.” he admitted, blushing.

Cedric and Harry started laughing. Hermione shot them a death glare and said, “Cedric Liam Diggory! Harry James Potter! It is not funny!”

“It is.” Harry said.

“No it is not! It’s sweet!” she said. Cedric wrapped his arms around her and he felt her relax in his embrace.

Chapter 9: Taking the risk, or not?

Cedric walked from his History of Magic class.

“Ced, where are you going?” Hannah Abbot asked.

“To find Hermione.” Cedric said, and he walked down to the dungeons to the fifth year double potions class.

“Diggory, mate. You’re gonna be late for Divination!” his best friend Richard Hawkins said.

“Tell the old bat I’ve one to the Hospital Wing, please, mate.” Cedric said.

Seeing Cedric near the 5th year potions class Richard said, “You’re really hung up on that Granger girl aren’t you?”

Cedric nodded. “Hey, how about you miss Divination with me?”

“I don’t know.”

“Come on, their double lesson’s almost over, so we won’t have to wait long. Besides, the 5th years have a free period next.” Cedric said.

“And we have lessons to go to and NEWTs to study for.” Richard said.

“I’m staying here and waiting for my girlfriend.” Cedric said stubbornly.

Richard went to retort when the bell went for the next lesson and the 5th year Gryffindors and Slytherins walked out.

Cedric felt the many pairs of girls’ eyes on him as if they were staring at him out of lust.

“Merlin those girls scare me.” Cedric whispered to Richard, who only laughed.

Harry, Ron and Hermione walked past Cedric and Richard.

“Cedric!” Hermione said and he caught her eye. She freed herself from her friends’ linked arms and ran and hugged him.

“Aren’t you meant to be in class?” she asked.

“Yeah, but I want to spend it with my girlfriend.” Cedric said.

Hermione blushed and giggled. “Go to class Ced.” she scolded, as the trio, Cedric and Richard walked to the Gryffindor Tower. They got to the portrait and Hermione whispered the password, the two Hufflepuffs didn’t notice.

“Why? I’m just gonna fail Divination and Herbology completely anyway.” Cedric whined.

After five minutes of whining and Cedric nuzzling into Hermione’s neck, she finally gave in.

Ten minutes later, the boys were engaged in a debate on risk, Hermione scolding them telling Harry and Ron to study, her head stuck in a Charms textbook.

The subject came to the debate of risking life and Hermione dropped the book, which landed on Richard’s head.

“We’re all taking a risk in being alive in the Wizarding world. You and Harry are at greater risk than the rest.” she said, growing pale.

“How?” Cedric asked.

“You’re meant to be dead, if Voldemort knows you never died from the Killing Curse, He’ll … try to catch you and kill you. He does the same to Harry.” she reasoned, her whole body trembling. “I’m just scared that once I turn my back for just a fraction of a second, that you or my friends won’t be there anymore.”

Richard and Ron looked at each other, clueless, while Harry and Cedric wrapped Hermione in a hug and comforted her.

“We’ll always be here, love.” Harry said.

“Yeah, we’re not going anywhere.” Cedric told her gently. He took her in his arms bridal style and carried her upstairs to the Girls’ Dormitory. Thankful the stairs had let him up, and that there were no other girls in the Dormitory, he laid Hermione on her bed.

“Cedric, I have to study.” she protested, but the man that was her boyfriend wouldn’t listen.

“You’re taking a break. What’s wrong with that?” he pouted.

“Exams. They’re two months away.” she said.

“Hermione, love, you will pass with flying colours as always, with or without studying. Besides, you’re always in the library, you’ve probably learnt the seventh year lessons.”

She blushed. “Fine. I’ll take that risk, for you. But if I fail, you’re taking my exam re-take and I’ll hold you responsible.” she giggled.

“Fair enough.” Cedric smiled.

Meanwhile, in a hideout in Hogsmeade, Voldemort & Wormtail were watching the two through a mind control spell which didn’t affect the victims until wanted to.

“Wormtail, you said you had finished theboy during the summer!” Voldemort hissed.

“N-no my Lord Voldemort. I o-only weakened him, My Lord.” Wormtail whimpered.

“How?!” Voldemort spat.

“I c-cast a d-dark ch-charm o-on hi-him, m-my L-lord. He will have pain spasms as though he is being tortured with Cruciatus.”

“The boy is vulnerable then?” Voldemort asked thoughtfully.

“Yes my Lord.” Wormtail said.

“Very well. You’ve proved yourself useful again. Mudblood Granger has everything to risk now, friendship and … dare I say it, love.” Voldemort laughed maliciously.

Chapter 10: My heart will go on... or will it?

November rolled by like day and night, as did the 5th year mock OWLs assessments.

The 5th year students filed into the Great Hall where the exams were to take place.

"Good luck." Cedric told hermione and kissed her forehead.

She smiled and was pulled into the Great Hall by Harry.

The students took their places by their test papers and parchments. Unfortunately for Hermione, she was seated beside Draco Malfoy.

"Who knew a piece of Hippogriff dung worthy of a Mudblood could get a boyfriend? Diggory doesn't love you, Granger. He'll leave you because you're filth, dirt, a nobody." he sneered, but one word she hated to hear was "And you're also unwanted. Everyone hates you."

She had heard that word so many times before, but not from her parents, but from random strangers or her ex- best friends. She however ignored him.

But Draco's words still echoed in her mind."Diggory doesn't love you. He'll leave you. Dirt. Filth. A nobody. Unwanted." But one word repeated itself over and over again ... "Unwanted."

She finished the exam forty-five minutes into the exam and pent the last hour and fifteen minutes. So she spent the final hour checking, re-checking and going over answers she may have missed or didn't seem right. Draco's words still echoing through her head.

The exam finally drew to an end. The students began file out of the Great Hall. As Cedric had promised, he waited for Hermione by the lake, where they spent most of their time with each other if they weren't studying or with friends.
