The depth of my procrastination knows no bounds. I've typed this up, aren't you all lucky people? I would like some of the ice-cream I was promised now please. I enjoyed writing this because of the final line. I thought of that first and had to find a way in which to get there! Seven, part four, Red Amelia stepped out of the fireplace in Lupin cottage, having dropped the children off with Ginny. Just as she did every morning, she had come back to pick up her bag and the sandwiches that Teddy had made before he left. The morning had a certain rhythm to it, a family rhythm and Amelia loved it. She loved hearing the children chatter over breakfast, watching them kissing Teddy goodbye. She loved dropping the children off with Ginny and hearing them call her Grandma, which Ginny would pretend to be annoyed by. As she straightened up, she heard a humourless laugh. “I told you, I told you that she would be here. They think themselves safe and so they drop their guard.” Two men were sitting in her kitchen, and as they removed their masks she saw that they were twins. They were clearly tall, thin and blonde with haggard faces that were vaguely familiar. “You might expect her to be afraid but I don’t think she is Tyr. How arrogant.” Tyr? She realised that they were the Eastman brothers but before she could reach for her wand, Quirinus had twitched his and Amelia crumpled to the floor. “Oh, I am going to enjoy this dear brother.” Tyr had a manic look on his face, as though as he was barely managing to restrain some violent urge. Quirinus smiled cruelly. “I know you are, go to work.” ***** Emil had watched as the other agents fought valiantly in their assault on the French Ministry. At the moment when Emil could almost taste the victory, the Cub and his troop arrived. Even the famous Harry Potter had been there. Emil had launched into the fray, issuing orders to those who were loosing their wits in the face of the oncoming horde of clowns. Morgana herself entered the fight, unmasked and glorious, her hair flying, and her eyes alive with beautiful fury. He watched as she brought down men twice her size with a simple swipe of her wand. He saw her enter the most magnificent duel. Morgana was challenged by one almost equal to herself, the air shrieked with the heat of their spell work as the marble of the Grande Hall d’Entree cracked beneath their feet. He saw the challenger, who indeed was a mirror for Morgana in many ways, become wounded, a deep slash appearing across her face. His mistress laughed and in that laughter Emil saw her fatal error. Her challenger shot a jet of red light at her and Morgana fell to the floor. It was at that moment that he was glad he had ensured his own path to freedom. Emil had learned the lessons of those who had followed Grindlewald and Voldemort; look after yourself. He had studied their mistakes. Before the battle he had switched identities with a willing, dispensable fool by means of Polyjuice Potion. The stooge was to shout orders and the other Agents were to appear to follow them. He saw his stooge duelling with Potter and took his chance; “Avada Kedavra!” The stooge crumpled to the floor just as Morgana had and Potter looked horrified, stupid man. If he could mistake such an insipid creature for the might of Emil Nequam then he deserved to believe that the man had died at his hand. Emil and the Eastmans had beaten a hasty retreat. They had not been idle for a decade though. They had taken steps to rebuild The Movement, only this time they would control it. The child would be a figurehead and a puppet. ***** Teddy saw the door open slightly as a familiar and welcome red head stepped into the room. “You’re lying! He shouted at Quirinus, red sparks bursting from the end of his wand. “Tell me Cub, how long has your kitchen been that sickly yellow colour?” Quirinus asked, as though wondering when Teddy planned on redecorating. There wasn’t a second to loose and simultaneously Teddy and Keith cried “Stupefy!” each of them felling a twin of his own like a spindly silver birch tree. “What in the name of Merlin is all this about?” Keith asked. “Me.” The answer came from the girl now standing in the doorway. She was still not crying and both men looked at her warily. “My name is Hermia Smith, I’ve been school both privately and at Beauxbatons, Susan Bones has been looking after me for the last six months, she collected me from France and…” She took a deep breath “and I accidentally killed the man who told me who my mother was.” “That’ll do for now kid. Where’s your wand?” “They took it.” “Right, well, we’ll find it later. Till then, let’s get these two upstairs. Hang on, what happened up there Keith?” “Oh, well y’know, the girl upstairs isn’t a girl after all. She’s a bloke in very girly robes.” Hermia laughed shakily. “Someone should be here soon Ted, I sent my patronus after I stunned and bound those two upstairs. Ted, it was Jones.” Teddy looked at Keith in disbelief but before he could reply could reply they heard voices in the hallway. “Lupin? Moore? What in the name of all things-” Ron stopped in what would more than likely have been a rather amusing if foul mouthed question as he opened the kitchen door. He saw Susan, unconscious and bleeding and shouted; “We need a healer in here!”A short wizard lime green robes ran into the room and began to attend to Susan’s injuries. “Ron, mate, I need to go, they made it sound like they had hurt Amelia.” Ron frowned. “I haven’t seen her today. Take Moore with you, I’ll sort this out.” Teddy and Keith ran through the house and Apparated form the step outside the front door to the end of the garden path of Lupin Cottage. Running up path they saw that the door was open. Fear had forced Teddy’s heart into his throat and it sat there pounding and suffocating him. They dashed through the parlour and into the kitchen, wands drawn. Amelia lay on the floor in a pool of blood. “Keith, St. Mungo’s go!” Teddy couldn’t form a sentence but he didn’t need to, his friend had already stepped into the green flames. Teddy dropped to his knees and gathered his wife up in his arms. She was languid but not cold. How long had she lain on the floor like this? He had expected her to follow him to work, she was never thirty minutes later than him but he had left before she was due to arrive. He started to heal the cuts that he could see. He could hear her shallow breathing and it gave him hope. The minutes ticked by and he wondered where Keith could be. He realised that the plot that morning had not just been about capturing Hermia. The intention had been to kill him and Amelia too. “They failed my love, they failed because we’re still here, we’re still here.” He kissed her forehead and closed his eyes for a long moment, gently rocking his wife back and forth. When he opened them again the room was filled with a brilliantly white light. He blinked several times and the light seemed to settle over Amelia’s chest in two orbs, now pink and pale silver blue. There was a whoosh of green flames from the grate and Keith stepped out again, followed by three healers and Teddy blinked away the tears of relief that were now spilling down his cheeks. He looked back at his wife and the lights were gone. After a few weeks in St. Mungo’s both Amelia and Susan both made full recoveries. Susan elected to keep her memories so that she could give evidence at the trail of Nequam, the Eastman twins and the fourth would be kidnapper, Jones. Teddy had been devastated that Rhodri Jones was the fourth kidnapper. Jones was a highly intelligent man, who Teddy himself had mentored within the Auror department. Jones had been the inside man, leaking information to Nequam. His betrayal had cut Teddy deeply; he had considered Jones a friend. Hermia had elected to keep her memory too. Apparently, she told Harry that it didn’t matter where she had come from, what mattered was what she chose to do with her life. She was very flattered when he told her that Albus Dumbledore had said something very similar once. Teddy and Amelia asked Hermia to live with them. She chose to go to Hogwarts, to make a fresh start. The cottage was magically enlarged to make room for everyone. Genevieve and Miranda, their daughters, were thrilled to be gaining a “cool big sister” but Remus, who was five, took a slightly different view. “Another girl? Why do we need another girl? Daddy, three girls is too many already!” If anyone knows the proper French term for Grand Entrance Hall, please let me know because I sort of guessed! I had lots of fun thinking of names for Teddy's children, I got quiet carried away. They are: Genevieve Nymphadora born in 2023, named after both Amelia and Teddy's mothers. Miranda Andromeda born in 2024, named after two of their grandmothers. Remus Alexander born in 2028, named after their fathers. I almost gave them a Quidditch team of children but I reined myself in. Chapter eight may take a while, I'm really hating it at the moment. No matter what I think of it always turns in to rubbish somewhere inbetween my brain and my fingers. On a different note, I feel completely dense because I can't work out why I've still got the sorting hat on when I am infact a Hufflepuff! Do I need to do something? Someone help me, please! |
Congrats on Hufflepuff, then! :) Anyway, great two chappies here, so here's the reward :D *waitress enters carrying a huge portion of vanilla icecream, decorated with carefully arranged hot chocolate source, and hot raspberries on a golden platter next to the bowl. Do you mean the announcement that says "Sorting Hat Open" or something? If you mean that, then don't worry, it tends to go away after a while - it did for me. Kita |

I just thought that for a wizard, 54 might be a bit young to be a grandmother, since they live so much longer than us muggles. Aww, you've got to love little Remus, more from him later... If you had seen me shoe shopping you wouldn't say I have self control. Quiet the opposite infact. I'm such a cliche. Thanks, I think that might just be the biggest ice-cream I've ever seen! :woot: Go Hufflepuff! :woot: Quote:
I've got a lovely Avvie from the fabulous Kelvin, so that I can show off my colours with pride. |

I love the flashbacks too, they're fun to write. I'm like MacDonald's? Really? I'm like cheap fried food that ultimately makes you ill? *feels slightly insulted* |
Hey! Can't believe I've never commented in here. Thanks again for mentioning my fic! Anywhooo, onto your lovely writings: I LOVE IT! Tonks and Remus are so sweet together, and Teddy and Amelia seem like they could be like a mini-Remus-Tonks-couple. Don't know if that makes sense or not :P. PAMS! - Mel :D |

Here we are, final chapter, part one. Thanks to the lovely Paintbrush for beta-ing for me. Eight, part one, Black. “Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Cosmo, Caitlin and Teddy, Happy Birthday to you!” Teddy and his twins blew out the fifty candles on the enormous Hogwarts castle birthday cake: forty for Teddy and five for each of the twins. There was a round of applause and Cosmo and Caitlin jumped off his knee and ran to Molly, hugging her and shouting “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” Teddy knew why his children were so grateful; they had tasted their mother’s disastrous attempts at baking. He looked over at Amelia; she had a slightly wounded expression. She was a fantastic mother but her kitchen skills left a lot to be desired, that was why he did most of the cooking. The cake was in the shape of Hogwarts because the twins had recently become obsessed with going to school, largely because Remus was due to start that September. He was talking about it non-stop and so of course the twins were too, they idolised Remus. Teddy looked at the cake closely and was amazed to hear deep gruff barking coming from Hagrid’s hut, where Freda was apparently supposed to be enclosed. The detail was remarkable; the surface of the lake seemed to ripple in the breeze as did the trees of the forbidden forest. The lights in the windows flickered and the white marble of Dumbledore’s tomb gleamed. Molly came to the table with a large kitchen knife to start slicing the cake so that it could be served. “Molly thanks for such an amazing cake but next year we’ll have to keep my candles off. I think fifty three is the point where it stops being a cake and turns into a towering inferno.” He smiled and kissed her on the cheek. He looked over at the twins who were whispering to James’ son Oscar, no doubt planning some trick involving the goodies they had been given by George. The three of them broke into peals of laughter and Teddy made a mental note to keep his wand safe and his drink even safer. “There’s the Birthday Daddy!” Keith was punching him on the shoulder genially, gripping his wife’s hand tightly. “Hello Keith, Victoire how are you?” “Oh fine, fine.” Victoire kissed him and where years before his cheek would have tingled now he felt nothing more than brotherly affection. She passed him three beautifully wrapped gifts. “Thanks.” “The pink one is for Caitlin.” “Oh and I was hoping that one was for me.” He flashed her a wide grin. “You don’t change do you?” “Who me? Never grow up, never get old, that’s what I say.” The three of them laughed easily and Keith started telling a story about a muggle whose memory he’d modified that day after a highly amusing incident involving a puffskein that had somehow been hiding in his handkerchief. “… and he’s on his back, legs in the air shouting ‘No! Not my brain!’ while…” Teddy’s attention had been drawn to the garden gate. What looked like a dark cloud had begun to form in the air, despite the mid-afternoon sun shining brightly in the otherwise cloudless sky. “…There's no need for living in the past Now I've found good loving gonna make it last I tell the others don't bother me 'Cos when they look at you they don't see what I see No I don't listen to their wasted lines Got my eyes wide open and I see the signs But they don't know about us And they've never heard of love…” Remus watched the flame haired woman singing while he leaned against the bar. The drink in his hand didn’t taste as good as anything he might have been served in the Three Broomsticks but it wasn’t too bad. He looked at his watch. She was late but that wasn’t unusual. The song ended and there was a cheer from the crowd. He rather liked the singer, she seemed nervous but her voice was amazing. “So that’s what you look like!” She was chatting to the crowd and she proved to be witty and acerbic in a charming kind of way. The band played the opening cords of the next song and another cheer went up. The singer seemed to relax into the new song and Remus wondered if she liked it more than the first. He turned to the barman, this time asking for lemonade. He wanted to keep his wits about him. He felt slender arms creep around his waist. “I must warn you that if you are going to pick my pocket, you may find more than you bargained for.” He heard a feminine chuckle. “Is that a promise?” He turned and saw her, lovely long brown hair and her beautiful face. “I hope you know by now that it most certainly is.” He kissed her lightly on the lips and his skin tingled where it had met hers. “Who is this singer?” “Kirsty MacColl. Isn’t she great?” “Yes, she has a really unique voice.” “Come on, let’s dance.” Remus looked around. No-one else was dancing really; they were either standing by the stage or sitting at the tables. Before Remus could comment on this, she had pulled him into a clear bit of space and had started to waltz which didn’t exactly fit the music. Remus gave a hoarse laugh. This was why he loved her, she was totally unexpected. On the way home, she chatted about the singer and a new band that she wanted to see the following weekend, the new exhibition at the V&A, the man on the tube who had been staring at her shoes in a rather disconcerting way and how she was thinking of applying for a job with a rival firm because it had a better reputation than her own. Remus listened to her, commenting where necessary but feeling again and more strongly than last time that he didn’t deserve her, that he was too different, that he was being selfish. He heard footsteps following them and cast a glance over his shoulder. He couldn’t see anything but he felt uneasy. “I think we should go my way home.” “What are you talking about your way? It’s only just up -” He silenced her with a kiss, whispering “My way home. The quick way.” He raised his eyebrows as she still looked puzzled, willing her to understand. “Right, ok then.” He saw an alleyway up ahead and gripping her hand tightly, he lengthened his stride. The footsteps behind them increased in pace too. As they turned into it a voice came out of the darkness. “Dirty wolf, messing with a muggle!” She gave a small cry and crumpled into him. Having no other option, holding her up, he turned on the spot as quickly as he could and they disappeared. He took her to back to Lupin Cottage and settled her on the sofa. She was breathing, apparently just stunned. He looked down at her and waves of guilt crashed over him. She had been attacked because of him. She was a muggle, completely defenceless against wizards. A woman as beautiful as she was should have a real man, not a monster who brought trouble to her door. She should have someone who could protect her and he clearly couldn’t do that. The black cloud swirled closer and Teddy knew what it was. “HERMIA! GET THE KIDS INSIDE!” he bellowed. “EXPECTO PATRONUM!” His patronus bounded off towards the heart of the cloud, swiftly followed by several others. He saw Harry’s stag charge, horns down, ready to engage with the fiends. He could distinguish a horse, a weasel, a terrier, a fossa, a snow leopard, an eagle, a hyena, an otter and a lynx joining his own jaguar as his family ran towards him, wands aloft, sending their own silver guardians out at the oncoming storm of dementors. There seemed to be at least a fifty of them, trying to claw their way through the patronuses with their pale, skeletal hands. The patronuses shone silver bright against them. The dementors seemed to group together to try and drive through a weak point in the defences and seemed to grow nearer. Teddy turned to see Remus standing transfixed, staring at the fight. Hermia was trying desperately to pull him away but he seemed with unable or unwilling to move. “REMUS! INSIDE, NOW!” Not even father’s voice seemed to wake Remus from his trance and he still resisted as Hermia pleased with him to move, almost pulling his arm out of the socket. It seemed that the dementors were gaining ground; they were now in the garden. A lone dementor had broken through and sensing weakness, headed towards the boy. Hermia drew her wand and cast the charm, but only whips of silver leaked out of the tip. No-one noticed the dementor gliding towards them. Remus was still rooted to the ground and Hermia was desperately repeating “Expecto Patronum” still unable to produce a shield patronus. With the dementor only feet away from them she stepped in front of Remus and took a deep breath. “EXPECTO PATRONUM!” The silver light erupted from the tip of her wand, taking the form of a huge bear. The bear charged at the dementor, driving it back towards the group of wizards who were fighting its fellows. “Remus, go inside, please.” The gentleness of her voice finally seemed to wake him and he turned and ran into the kitchen. “WATCH OUT! MIND YOUR BACKS!” Hermia followed her bear as it continued to swipe at the dementor. It rose into the air, fleeing in the face of the relentless attack. Some of those who had run into to take care of the children now came to join the fight. The force of so many patronuses was too much for the dementors and they scattered, the black cloud that they had formed swirling away like dirty water down a drain. The sky was soon clear and cloud free once more. Most of the patronuses vanished but Teddy’s prowled back towards him, almost as though it was expecting a reward. He nodded subconsciously but his attention was on Lilly, who had sunk to the ground in shock. It was the first time that she had used the charm defensively. He helped her to her feet as Cosmo ran out of the kitchen shouting; “Chocolate for everyone! Nanna Molly said so!” He gave Lilly a big chunk and then made sure that everyone had a piece, making frequent dashes back to the kitchen for more supplies. Teddy walked over to Harry. Keith joined them. “Well sir, what do you make of that?” Keith asked, sounding drained. Teddy looked at his hand and saw that his chocolate was untouched. He gave his friend a stern look and Keith popped the chocolate into his mouth, grimacing. “Well, I’m not sure what to make of it Moore, but don’t go repeating that.” Kingsley too gave Keith a stern look. “Me neither, but I think we need to put some feelers out.” Harry looked at Teddy “Up to a mission?” “Me? Always.” Teddy wanted to know who had tried to attack his family and why. He would find them and make sure they never did it again. Those who have read the Remus drabbles will know who his muggle girlfriend is. The singer they went to see is the late, great Kirtsy MacColl. I felt guilty after mentioning princess of *hp*'s story and not any of the other stuff that I love on SS.
