Harry sighed, what else could he do? Ron would be distraught, but then, in one sense, he had seen this coming. He had been to busy arguing with her to actually admit the blinding obvious.
He loved her.
Hermione was stirring slightly in her slumber, her hazel eyes flickering as if they were going to open suddenly and Harry looked up at Draco. He was clutching her hand tight to him, and looking at her plae peach skinned face with hope. So much hope.
Pansy had been forcibly sedated and Ginny levitated and removed from her side as she had been enjoying poking the passed out Pansy with her wand just a bit to much, even if the thing did deserve it, Madam Pomfrey still had to discipline the youngest Weasley, no matter how much she didn't want to.
Harry got up from his seat and looked at Draco once more, "Look after her," He told him sternly, "Hermione is like my sister and if you do anything to her..." He trailed off enough had been said.
Draco swallowed, remembering all to well what Harry had done to him before. He would have had far more practise by now too. It just added even more trouble to his predicament.
Of all the people...why Hermione? Why kill Hermione Granger?
Oh he knew alright, and he couldn't get it out of his angular head.
Hermione was one of the golden trio, the brains. She was Potter's moral support and common sense, she was the third that actually screamed sense when Ginny wasn't around, but even then, Ginny was the only one he actually listened too. Why hadn't the Dark Lord figured that out?
No, Voldemort and the Death Eaters where determind to kill off the golden trio first and then get to those he loved and cared about. That was probably it. He didn't understand love.
But then, nor did Draco.
What he knew of it was that awful sensation that he wanted more and more of as it boiled through his veins, played games with his stomach, made him want to just...float, you know, that complete blissful feeling, the one that made him want to run and run and run and keep running, as long as he had her with him...
But he loathed that feeling too.
It was tearing him apart.
"Draco?" A weak voice asked.

I just started reading your fic today and it was ah-mazing! I too write about ships I don't actually ship (my fic, I Write Sins Not Tragedies, is a Ginny/Draco which I don't ship - but good girl/bad boy is fun to write, isn't it?) anyways I love this last chapter about how Voldie doesn't understand love. Amazing insight! Sorry if I seem like an excited fangirl :cheerleads:

The deep dark, hazel swirls of soulful orbs flickered open, to her, the world was fuzzy, a strange onset of blurs and white noise. She blinked, willing the white to come in to focus, make some kind of sense. Her body was heavy, her head felt like a tonne. Above her, there were two pairs of bright colours. One pair was pale, bright with life, with love, the other pair, emerald, dark, caring, loving, brotherly.
Her hands were warm, and someone was stoking her hair back onto the soft thing behind her head. Something about it soothed her, it made her calm and she sighed, enjoying the peace she had inside.
She looked up once more, and recognised the cold grey swirls of light. They reminded her of so much...Her memory was fuzzy, and she couldn't think straight...yet she could remember the warmth that those eyes showed her. The adoration...
"Draco?" Her voice was soft, raspy, full of tiredness, but that name seemed so familiar to her...so...right.
"Hermione?" The voice replied laughed in a relived way. She managed a smile in return, yes, that name was hers...
"You're awake," The voice stated, delighted. The voice was gaining more of an identity now, more than two beautiful eyes and a name, Draco. No, the voice belonged to a man with platinum hair, angular features, and a lean muscular body.
"Yeah, i am" She rasped, smiling more.
"I got you something" He grinned happily, his hand diving into his pocket. He pulled out a packet of sweets and placed them on the table beside her. Only, something else fell out too.
A small piece of parchment.
Ron Weasley, who had come to visit, noticed, and picked up the parchment, placing it in his own pocket.
Draco had no idea.

oh great i don't think i can deal with that happening to poor draco. But it was such a good chapter i love how this could be very short but you keep catching me off guard. how do you do that? I always think i've got the story figured out to what's going to happen next and then you go and change it on me but still it's really really really good i love it so much.

"Oh, you're busy..." Ron said quietly, looking at Hermione who was staring, almost...lovingly at Draco. Hatred boiled in his veins as he realised Draco was holding her hand, smiling adoringly back.
"I'll just leave then..." He continued when neither answered.
He did so, clenching his fists, and his fingers crumpled up the parchment once more. It brought a sharp stabbing sensation to him. Was it blank? Or did it have some kind of message on it? Why did Malfoy carry a small bit of parchment with him? The way it looked said that it had been handled and read an awful lot.
Ron scowled and crumpled the letter in his hands, a low gutteral growl emmited from his throat as he stormed down the hall ways. He threw himself into an alcove, and opened up the note.
He took a deep breath before he read it, he was going to savour every word - if there were words on the parchement to savour. No one was going to take his Hermione.
His crystal blue eyes snapped open, and they read the letter from Draco's father in a gleeful, yet horrified way. He swallowed the words like water, stunned at what they said, what they meant.
Draco - Kill Hermione...
The words were echoing through out his head, he was panicking, not sure what to do, what to say. Then the word came to him, in one glorious word.
He swore.
It echoed down the corridor and a pair of naive first years ran away giggling.
Ron stood up, and ran back to the hospital wing...

AHHHH! I love you all so much!  All of you! Thank you so much for your support and comments, and have a (longish) update!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ~ Ron was running so fast, that his bright flame hair was cool with the air streaming like water through it. His bright cornflower blue eyes were sparkling with anger, fear, malice. Most of all, he was petrified. How could he have just left them there? How? Not after reading this! Hermione could be in danger right now! His feet slammed onto the stone floor thunderously, the angry sound mirroring his mood exactly. Draco was smiling at Hermione. She was smiling delightedly back. He was thumbing his fingers gently through Hermione's chestnut mane, his hands gently caressing her face as she got used to the light around her. "My head hurts," She croaked. "I'm not surprised!" Draco replied, laughing in a relieved way. The soft sheets allowed Hermione to close her eyes once more, she was tired, she needed rest. The world of white linnen closed in around her, and she surrendered to the warmth that let her escape for a while. "Night Draco..." She murmered, rolling over so she faced him. "Good night Hermione." He answered quietly, kissing her forehead. He looked about and the famous smirk slipped back on to his face, as he looked about, hoping for several empty beds, and thats what he got. He leant back wards, and stripped it off it's two pillows. He plumped them both up, and slipped them around Hermione's head, so that it looked as though she had a small bedding department from a store under her bed. Draco smiled once more, and tucked the white cotton sheets around her so she was warm and would stay warm while she slept. Madam Pomfrey came over and noticed all the pillows around Hermione's head and glared at Draco. "Don't touch the pillows" He said to her, his voice sounding stern although it wasn't intentional. "Excuse me Mr Malfoy! I wasn't going to touch the pillows, in fact, i was just coming to check up on Miss Granger!" She snapped in reply, a faint pink tinge tainted his cheeks and he looked rather awkward. "Sorry..."He mumbled, "I just wanted her to be comfortable." Madam Pomfrey smiled warmly at him and nodded, "Yes, i think that's obvious Mr Malfoy." She said, changing the flowers in the vase on her bedside table. "Can you tell me something?" Draco asked suddenly, "Can you tell me why she's so tired?" Madam Pomfrey smiled absently, and cleared Hermione's mahogany hair out of her face, "Yes, people who have been attacked to the head often suffer tiredness for a while, she'll be fine." "Oh good," Draco replied, looking at her adoringly. Draco's ice grey eyes flickered towards the door. Someone was running towards the hospital wing very fast...
