Always and Forever - Sa13+
 

Hey! It's Katie once again! OK, this is an idea that is pretty simple. It's a H/Hr shipping fic. The Horror! It takes place during school, and I don't even want to specify the year, cause that's what everybody does, and there's only one more unknown year left. So I shall make my own! Gist of the story:

Harry and Hermione are beginning to notice each other after Ron and Hermione's break-up. Luckily, they were able to remain friends. Hermione and Ron try to go their seperate ways, but Harry wants Hermione to be his. Hermione hooks up with different people, and so does Ron. Harry comes close to hooking up with Ginny, but what shall happen?

"Look, it's Hermione!" Was the cry that rang from the Hogwarts Express. Hermione glanced at the cars to find Harry and Ron waving at her. She smiled and waved back.

She did something different to her hair... The thought raced through Harry's mind. He felt something stir inside of him. She's gorgeous....wait, Hermione's my best friend!

"Hey boys, what's up?" She gave Ron a brief hug, then turned to Harry. Harry stared at her, bewildered by her change. She looked lovely. Her hair framed her face gently. The mascara that had been applied showed off her hazel eyes, and her clothes weren't so nerdy....she looked hot!

Harry began to lean foward, and close his eyes. His lips hit the cold hard glass, and earned him a funny look from Hermione.

"Wow Harry...I don't even want to know about your summer now." She sat down next to Ron, and Ron put an arm around her.

"But I do. How was it Harry?"

"Lonely." Harry sighed and looked out the window. He wanted to believe that he didn't begrudge Ron snogging Hermione, but he couldn't help but be jealous.

What was the matter with him?

Chapter 2
 

The train finally arrived at Hogwarts. Hermione, Harry, and Ron got off and choose a carriage together when Hagrid called Ron.

"Oy! Ron! D'you mind helpin' me wi' the firs' years?"

"Alright Hagrid. See you all up there." Ron said, and left. It was just Harry and Hermione. Harry began to sweat.

"So Harry, how was your summer?" Hermione asked while staring out the carriage window.

"A-alright. How was yours?"

"Well, Ron and I saw alot of each other, naturally. But I missed you Harry. Why didn't you answer any of my owls?"

"Oh....I was busy." Harry lied. But he knew the reason. He had been corresponding alot with Sirius. "With writing to Sirius and all."

"So he's alright then?" Hermione asked, unaware of Harry's growing sense of discomfort.

"Yea." Harry remained silent. Hermione kept shooting him strange looks, but didn't say anything until they were almost there.

"Harry, what's wrong?"

"Nothing." Harry answered immediately. Hermione raised her eyebrows.

"Nothing? Good job Harry, but it didn't work." Harry jumped, then looked at her.

"What do you mean?"

"Only that-" Just then the carriage stopped. They had arrived at Hogwarts. Harry leaped out of the car, then helped Hermione out. Muttering a spell, he made her trip, giving him the opportunity to catch her. Man, did she feel wonderful in his arms.

"Harry? You can let go now." Hermione said. Harry jerked himself away from her. "Are you sure you're ok?"

"Positive. Look, there's Ron." Ron came by, waving. He kissed Hermione and the three of them entered Hogwarts.

Chapter 3
 

Harry made sure to distance himself from Hermione. The last thing he wanted was to get into a fight with Ron. Besides, there were other girls at Hogwarts. Surely there must be somebody-

"Hey Harry, how was your summer?" A pretty Gryffindor sat down next to him.

"Erm, it was fine. Excuse me, but what's your name?" Harry asked politely.

"My name is Candi Summers. And you don't really know me, because I've been away for a while. How are you?"

"Just fine....fine." Harry tried to ignore Hermione and Ron snogging. Candi noticed his discomfort.

"Ron and Hermione?"

"How'd you know?" Harry asked, suprised that she had figured it out so quickly.

"Please, everyone knew those two were going to end up dating. It was only a matter of time. Besides, what about you and Cho?"

"Over." Harry said quickly. Candi tossed her long black hair over her shoulder and laughed.

"Not your type?"

"You could say that. How on Earth do you know so much about me?" Harry was dying to find out.

"Well, I'm good friends with Ginny Weasley. Even though I'm older than her. Your year actually. When I'm away, we write to each other, and she tells me just about everything." Harry smiled, and Candi patted him on the back.

"What was that for?"

"Encouragement. You look like you need it. Don't worry, nothing lasts forever Harry."

Harry and Candi sat next to each other during the feast, and got to know each other. Ron and Hermione were too busy going at it to care anyway. By the end of the evening, Harry had made a friend and ally.

"So how long d'you think they'll go at it?" Harry asked Candi as they made their way to the Common Room.

"Oh...I'd say maybe till....after New Years? They did spend most of their time fighting, right?"

"Yea, but now it's snogging. Whipping Sticks." Harry said to the Fat Lady, who allowed them to enter.

"Well, I wouldn't worry about it Harry. See you in the morning." Candi made her way up to the girls dorm, and Harry to his. He paused, reflecting on the evening. Although they had talked about her alot, Harry found he hadn't thought of Hermione all evening.

"Maybe...I shouldn't worry about it." He mused to himself, then saw Ron and Hermione come in, holding hands. "Good feelings gone." He was feeling jealous again.

Ron soon came up, and Harry didn't feel like talking when he did. Ron climbed into bed.

"Harry...my life couldn't have gotten better."

"Good Ron. I'm glad you've found someone." Harry said rather shortly. He rolled over and pretended to fall asleep. Soon Ron was fast asleep, and his snores filled Harry's mind and thoughts until he too, was dreaming.

Chapter 4
 

Harry and Ron made their way down to the Great Hall, where Hermione was waiting. Just then, Candi came down as well, and Harry stopped to wait.

"Hey Harry, sleep well?" She asked and walked with him.

"Pretty well, how about you?"

"Oh, just fine, I usually sleep well at night." They sat down next to each other in the Great Hall. Ron and Hermione were a few places away, but moved over when they saw Harry's new friend.

"Who's your friend Harry?" Hermione asked.

"I'm Candi Summers. I met Harry yesterday, while you two were snogging." Candi said bluntly, but not unkindly.

"Yea well, people do that. How come I've never seen you before?" Ron asked, his ears slightly red.

"I've been away. I know who you are though, Ronald Weasley." Candi took a bite out of the bacon on her plate.

"How?" Ron asked incredulously. Hermione took some toast out of the basket and handed one to Harry.

"I correspond with your sister, Ginny." Candi said nonchalantly, and drank some orange juice.

"So that's what was with all those owls..." Ron mused as the students got their schedules.

"Oh Ron! Double Potions, Double Transfiguration, Divination, Charms, History of Magic, and...oh good, a free period at the end, we're gonna need that." Harry exclaimed, then sighed with relief.

"Well, we might as well get started. Candi, do you want to walk with us?" Hermione offered, taking Ron's hand. Candi looked at her. Harry suddenly realized that she looked strangely like Luna Lovegood. But the feeling soon passed.

"Love to."

Harry and Candi spent most of the time talking. Ron and Hermione tried to get words in here and there, but everyone could tell they had something going on. However, it was all a bluff.

"Muffalio" Harry muttered in Charms, so the two of them could really talk.

"So, how do you think I can win back Hermione?"

"Back? Harry, you never had her." Candi had a rather straightfoward way of saying things.

"Whatever. The point is, they're pretty comfortable with each other."

"Damn." Harry said, watching them. "But....Ron'd understand if I told him, right?"

"WRONG! Don't EVER tell him! It could break your friendship." Candi warned him.

OK, that's enough, I have to leave you!

Chapter 5
 

"Candi, if Ron's my friend, he'll understand-" Harry began. Candi leaned foward in her chair and grasped Harry's shoulder.

"Listen to me Harry. I don't think you understand. They're in love. Messing with love is almost as bad as messing with time. the wrong people end up together in the end, and life is hell afterwards." Candi leaned back on her chair wearily and let go of Harry.

"I think you're right Candi." Harry admitted after a few moments. "But then...does that mean there's no hope?"

"Not exactly. There has to be dozens of situations like this every day. We'll have to go to the library to figure this out." Harry groaned.

"You're just like Hermione! Always going to the library."

"Well, maybe you should try it, it's quiet and refreshing there." Candi said, and vanished the spell around them.

"Hey! How did you do that?" Harry exclaimed. "That's a personal spell! How did you-"

"I know things. That's the bell." Candi was very good at diverting attention. Harry wasn't swayed, and stood back while she gathered her things. How much did he know about this girl? Practically nothing. How could he trust her? She knew magic he didn't.

Harry decided to be a little more cautious around her.

After History of Magic, where they were assigned an essay about the History of the Magic Carpet and How it was Banned and Why, Candi dragged Harry to the library.

"Aw Candi....I hate going in here." Harry grumbled. "Look, it's perfect Quiddich weather outside."

"Stop whining Harry. Do you want Hermione or not?" That shut him up. She sat him down in front of a pile of books she had already retrieved. "Start looking in here. Check the indexes. We're looking for anything involving romance crisises."

"Alright. What are you going to do?" Harry asked while flipping through one.

"I'm going into the Restricted Section. See what I can find. If I'm done before you, I'll help you. Then...you can show me how to play Quiddich." She added shyly.

"You don't know how to play Quiddich? But...you know everything!" Harry was amazed.

"Well, not everyone's perfect. Start cracking." She disappeared behind a wall of books.

After an hour, they admitted potential defeat.

"There are too many books to look at right now. We'll look again tomorrow for an hour, then we'll break for Quiddich. Deal?"

"This will be regular?" Harry asked hopefully. Cand nodded. "Then let's go fin you a broom!"

Harry handed Candi a broom.

"This? This is supposed to carry my fat *ss?" Candi looked at it mistrustfully.

"You're not fat. And yes, it will. Now, mount it." Harry straddled his broomstick, and motioned for Candi to do the same. "Good. Now, kick off from the ground."

Candi kicked hard, and flew straight into the air.

"WEEEEEE!!!!" Candi shrieked as she whizzed through the air. Harry grinned to see her soar. "Wait, how do I get down?"

"Just lean foward! It'll go down on it's own."

Candi landed with little grace, but a huge grin lit up her face. "Harry, that was amazing!"

"Now, watch this." Harry mounted his Firebolt and took off. He circled around the Quiddich hoops, did a few loop-di-loops, and ended by zooming around Candi in a circle a few times.

"Wow..." That was all she could manage. Harry landed safely beside her. Before they both could think about it, they kissed.

And...WHAT!? They weren't suppose to kiss! What about Hermione! Harry you idiot! You want Hermione!
*hits Harry on the head*
I wonder how Ginny is going to get thrown into all of this? Harry wants Hermione but he kissed Candi...where does Ginny come up?
But Harry needs to get with Mione!

Chapter 6
 

Candi was the first to pull away. Harry looked at her guiltily.

"Erm...sorry about that."

"No problem. There's something about a guy on a broomstick that appeals to me too. Now, about your problem...." Harry grasped it like a drowning man. They went back to the Common Room, talking about Hermione and Ron.

After dinner, Harry stayed in the Common Room while Candi went upstairs to take a shower. Just then, Ginny came through the portrait hole. Harry sat up straighter.

"Hey Harry, where's Candi?" She asked, and sat next to him.

"Upstairs. She's taking a shower."

"Oh yea?"

"Yea." There was an awkward pause. Harry started to fidget. Ginny cleared her throat.

"So...do you like her?"

"She's ok." Harry said simply. Ginny rolled her eyes.

"I mean....would you want to date her?" Harry shook his head.

"She's alright, but not for me."

"So then....who is for you?" Harry and Ginny got up and looked into each other's eyes.

"I'm...getting the feeling...that you think you're qualified. Correct?"

"Maybe." Ginny gave a sly smile. "You don't need Legilimacy to tell you that Harry."

"Maybe, maybe not." Harry said, and kissed Ginny just as Ron and Hermione came through the portrait hole.

"What the bloody hell is going on?" Ron shouted so loud that several first years jumped, then ran off.

"Ron, calm down-" Hermione started.

"NO! Harry! What gives? I thought you were my friend?"

"Ron, this has nothing to do with friendship." Harry said. Ron waved him off and flicked The Finger at him.

"I should hope that my best friend would know to keep his bloody paws off my sister!"

"Ronald Weasley, I can kiss any boy I feel like!" Ginny roared at Ron. "And I feel like kissing Harry. Maybe even...snogging." Ginny shivered in fear, then grabbed Harry.

"Where are you going?" Hermione asked them.

"OUT!" Ginny said firmly, and dragged Harry out the Common Room.

Chapter 7
 

Candi wrapped a towel around her soaked head and came out of the showers, singing a little tune. She finally made a friend that her parents could be proud of. Not that her other friends were unworthy. Still....making friends with the blood traitor family wasn't putting her in her father's good graces. But Harry Potter was a worthy catch and a nice person.

She hopped down the last few stairs and entered the Common Room. There were Ron and Hermione, Hermione comforting Ron, who was looking angry.

"What happened? I was only gone for 20 minutes." Candi towel dried her hair next to Hermione. "What did I miss?"

"Oh, Harry and Ginny just ran off to make out, and Ron's all in a tizzy." Hermione said apologetically. Candi shook her head.

"Idiot. Excuse me please." Candi rushed out of the Coomon Room, her hair streaming, looking for Harry.

She finally found him in the kitchens corridor, snogging Ginny Weasley. She coughed loudly, and Harry disengaged himself.

"Oh....Gin, could you excuse me for one brief moment?"

"As long as it's brief." Ginny gave Candi an 'I'm-Happy-To-See-You-But-I'm-Still-******-At-You' look. Candi ignored it for the time being.

"Harry....did you forget about Hermione?"

"No.." Harry said, a little uncomfortable.

"Well, you sure aren't convincing me otherwise. Cause I'm not going to help you with Hermione if you go snogging with Ron's sister. OK?"

Harry became a little red in the face. "Look, I'm not saying that I don't love Hermione. But that can wait. I'm with Ginny right now, and-"

"Sure, right now. But what about tomorrow? The next day? Harry, if you're just pulling my leg, please let me know, and I'll-"

"No Candi, you're right. But I'm not ready for Hermione yet. After she breaks up with Ron, then maybe we can do something about Ginny. But for now, let's just play by ear, ok? See you later." He gave Candi a grateful look, then trotted back to Ginny.

Candi shook her head. She didn't understand some people. Not at all. She made her way back to the Common Room, where Ron and Hermione were still there.

"Little git...I woulda said yes...why didn't he ask me?" Ron asked Hermione, his head in his hands.

"Look Ron, I'm sure this was spur-of-the-moment. I know Harry would have sat down and talked, but you know Ginny. She's a little....um....excitable-"

"EXCITABLE??" Ron interrupted Hermione. "She's excitable? I would say a little unpredictable, maybe kinda spontaenious, but certainly not exciable. Excuse me please." Ron shoved Hermione and Candi out of his way, and went up to the dorms.

"Why can't guys sit and talk everything out?" Hermione asked Candi.

"Well, you know guys. They always have to be in action. They're big attention-babies."

Hermione laughed. "You're exactly right! Where did Harry find you anyway?"

"Under a rock." Candi said amiably. Hermione had tears streaming down her face.

"Candi, you're awesome! Wanna hang out, no boys?"

"My pleasure." The two girls linked arms and headed outside.

Chapter 8
 

"Now, the problem with boys is, they're way too serious." Candi noted as the two of them went out of the castle. They strolled towards the Lake.

"True. And they're very egotistical." Hermione added as she watched the Giant Squid. It came lazily to the surface, and snatched a bird out of the air. The water rippled outward.

"Yes. Especially Harry and Ron. They're the worst cases I've ever seen."

"Really?"

"Oh yes. Harry's all gung-ho for saving the day, and Ron tries to make himself appear just as good as Harry. It's sickening." Candi threw a rock into the Lake. Hermione did the same.

"I never noticed it in Ron befo-" Hermione was cut off by Candi's responce.

"Never? Hermione, they do it every day! Every single day! How can you not see it?"

"I suppose it's because I do see them every day, and it's just regular being them for me. I don't notice anything different. Now, if they were acting selfless, then I'd notice a difference." The two girls giggled.

"You'd have to check for a fever." They burst into laughter.

"RIGHT!" Hermione was holding a stich in her side. Candi was rolling around on the grass, laughing hysterically. Just then, a shadowy figure approached the girls.

"Mind if I join you?"

"Sure. T-Take ah-ah-a s-s-s-seat." Candi gasped. Luna Lovegood sat down and looked at them mildly.

"Having a good time?"

"T-time of our l-lives. Wh-what about you?" Hermione tried to gain some control.

"Oh, just got a letter from Daddy." She said. "He's found a book that tells exactly how to capture a Reef-Blown WaterGirckle."

"A what?" Candi sat up.

"A Reef-Blown Watergirckle. They live in Lake that hold a vast multitude of sea-creatures. Like the Lake." She looked at it. "Daddy wants to do an expedition into this Lake. But Dumbledore's afraid it will disturb the peace."

"Oh really?" Hermione almost went into another fit of giggles. "How so?"

"Reef-Blown Watergirckles are very dangerous." Luna warned them.

"I'll be sure to look out for them when we go swimming." Candi said seriously. Hermione almost lost herself.

"Good idea Canderia. You'd be in trouble if they caught you." Luna got up. "I'd better write him back. Good-bye girls."

"Bye Luna." They said in unison. She waved and left.

"What a strange girl." Candi murmered to herself. "And how did she know my name's Canderia?"

"She's Luna, she knows everything. That's why she's in Ravenclaw." Hermione remarked, watching Luna's figure get smaller and smaller.

Chapter 9
 

Ron was up in his dorm, relishing for the first time that he was all alone. He needed to think. Think about Ginny, Harry, Candi, and the most painful of all: Hermione.

Ron loved Hermione. Simple as that. But who was Candi? When did she arrive at school? Ron didn't remember her being at the Sorting. And what right did she have to come in and ruin their lives? Ron was feeling ver mean at that moment. He decided to confront her and her possible lies.

Candi and Hermione were just walking in the the Common Room.

"Candi, I'd like to have a word with you."

"Of course Ronald. Excuse me please, Hermione." They went over to a pair of overstuffed chairs. "How may I help you?"

"Who are you exactly?" Ron said right out.

"My name is Caderia Summers." Candi said. "Who are you?"

"I-I'm...this isn't what we're talking about!" Ron exploded. "What year are you in?"

"Yours." She said calmly.

"Why weren't you at the Sorting?"

"I was away. On personal business." Candi emphasized personal. Ron didn't take the hint.

"What could be more important than your education?" Ron shot at her.

"Family business. Problems. Issues. But I wouldn't expect you to know about that." Candi's remark hit home. Ron stared at her, stunned.

"I had a brother leave the family to take sides against it. Percey dumped his family for the Ministry. The Ministry! Don't tell me I don't know about family problems! That practically killed my mum and dad!"

"Then show some sympathy!" Candi threw herself out of her chair. "I was in Algeria, caring for my parents. They were sick with Yellow Fever."

"Yellow Fever?" Ron asked, caught off guard.

"Yes idiot. Yellow Fever. I cared for them for 5 years, and they both managed to die on me. I was alone. I managed to get back to England only because my mother wanted me to finish my education. Ring a bell?"

Ron was flustered. He didn't know what to say.

"Candi, I-"

"I suppose you think I'm doing something wrong, being Harry and Hermione's friend? Something stupid like that, right?"

"I...erm..."

"Well, if you wanted to keep your friends to yourself, you could have just told me. I'll go now." Candi went to leave, but Hermione grabbed her arm.

"No Candi. I still want you as a friend. Ronald, I can't believe you. I want you to apologize to Candi."

"Not on your life!" Ron folded his arms.

"Then until you do, we're through!" Hermione said fiercely, her eyes tearing. She whirled away up to the dorms, Candi dragged at her side.

Chapter 10
 

That night, Candi stayed awake for a long time. She had alot to think about. What right did that Ron have, to think he can just order her around? Like her parents?

Flashback

Candi walked over to the sink to fetch the cool water rag. She layed it against her mothers burning forehead.

"Candi! Get over here!"

"I can't, I'm caring for Mom." Candi called. At 13 years, she was very responsible.

"I told you to get here b*tch!" Candi hung her head and went.

She shook her head. It didn't help to think ill of the dead. On her left, she could hear Hermione's steady weeping. Candi felt terrible. She had ruined their relationship.

Flashback

"Candi, dear?"

"Yes mother?" Candi was by her side in a flash.

"See what's keeping your father, please?" Her mother fell back against the pillows, her eyes a sickly yellow color. Candi grasped her hand.

"Of course." A bang at the door. Heads turned.

Her father in the doorway, his face pale, his eyes shot with blood. He stumbled in the doorway, then collapsed. Black vomit flew from his mouth, and Candi realized he also had Yellow Fever.

She began to scream. So much screaming....so much...

Candi screamed herself awake. Jerking up from the bed, she tossed a fearful glance to the door, where she was sure her father would come, eyes bloody and yellow, her mother fainting as she screamed.

"Candi, are you ok?" Candi gave a little yelp as Hermione's head came out of the darkness, stained with tears.

"I-I'm fine......fine." She gave a not-so-reassuring smile, and Hermione gave her a Look, but went back to bed. Candi turned on her side, away from the door.

It was a long time before she fell asleep.

The first morning of Hermione and Ron's break-up was awful for both. In that tiny 9 hour span, everyone seemed to know that the Hogwarts power-couple had broken it off. Girls were warding off guys attempts to talk to Hermione, and guys were clapping Ron on the back, saying it was ok, more fun to play the field than sit in the box.

Candi was devestated by what she caused, and confronted Hermione about it at lunch.

"Hermione, do you hate me?"

"Of course not! What a thing to say!" Hermione said, and took a bite of her ham sandwich. Harry gave Candi a queer look as well. He was the only boy allowed within the wall of females.

"Well, I did help you and Ron break-up." Harry choked on his peanut butter sandwich. He hadn't heard this part.

"It wasn't your fault Candi. Ron's so thick-headed, did you really think I was going to support him insulting you?" Hermione whacked Harry on the back calmly. "Harry, you need to take smaller bites.

"S-sorry Hermione." Harry coughed. He looked at Candi, then finished eating. Candi knew what he was thinking.

This was his chance at taking Hermione for his own!

Chapter 14
 

Harry pulled Candi aside after lunch.

"Do you have a free period now?"

"Yea, why?"

"You have to help me with Hermione, now that Ron's out of it." Harry whispered urgently. Candi shook her head.

"Harry, that's a brilliant plan...with one tiny flaw."

"What?" Candi turned his head to the small sea of Gryffindors, and pointed out a long-haired red-head.

"Ginny Weasley. Your girlfriend."

"Oh." Harry turned red. "Well....."

"Harry, I told you not to get into a relationship with Ginny. Now what do you plan to do?" The bell rang and students shuffled to their classes. Harry looked around.

"Let's go up to the Tower so we can talk." Harry pulled Candi's arm and took her to Gryffindor Tower. "Truffles."

"Correct." The Fat Lady said, and swung open. They sat down on the chairs closest to the fire.

"Harry, why did you get together with Ginny?" Candi asked right off. "After knowing full well what it could cause?"

"I didn't know that Hermione and Ron would break up!" Harry defended himself. "You can't blame me for everything."

"No," Candi sighed, "I can't. But that doesn't make the situation any better, or easier to solve. Now, are you serious about your relationship with Ginny?"

"Of course not. But Ron will kill me if I break up with Gin just to date Hermione."

"You have a bigger problem than that Harry." Candi warned. Harry looked puzzled.

"What?"

"what if Hermione says no? What if she isn't ready for another relationship?" Harry hung his head.

"Candi...why do you have to be so negative?" Candi laughed gently. Harry looked up and smiled thinly.

"Not negative....practical. Honestly, didn't they teach you English at that muggle school you used to go to?"

"No, I kept getting beaten up. I learned alot of swear words though." Harry added slyly, and Candi laughed.

"Good thing McGonagal can't hear you. She hates swearing." Harry cursed, and Candi laughed harder. She stood up.

"Mr. Potter, that kind of language is not permitted at Hogwarts." She said primly, sounding almost exactly like the stern professor. Harry clutched his side and fell over, laughing wildly.

"Th-that w-was amazing." Harry gasped. "Wh-who else can y-you do?"

"I hate Harry Potter." Candi said grimly. "He's just like his father. Too bad I can't poison him, Dumbledore wouldn't be pleased. He might make me...take a shower!" Candi fell over and twitched at the floor.

Harry almost died from laughing. "Snape would love to poison me!" He roared with laughter, and Candi joined him. Just then, the bell rang.

"Over already? Time flies when you're mocking professors." Candi looked at the clock.

"Don't be late to class children It's important!" Professor Flitwicks voice squeaked from Harry's mouth, and they burst into giggles. They picked up their books and hurried to class.

Candi made plans to go to Hogsmeade with Hermione that weekend. This gave her the perfect opportunity to talk with her about Harry. They met outside the castle.

"Got your permission slip?" Candi asked her. Hermione held it up. "Good, cause I'm shopping till I'm dropping!"

"But you do that anyway." The girls laughed and entered the small wizarding town. Candi pulled Hermione to about 10 different little shops, coming out with more and more bags. Hermione laughed when she couldn't pick them up anymore.

"Maybe you should take a break Candi."

"Break from what?" Candi huffed, trying to carry all her bags at once. Hermione laughed and helped her out. "Thanks."

"From shopping. You should really find some place to put them. Wanna send them back to Hogwarts?"

"Nah, better mail them to my apartment." Candi headed over to the owl post office.

"You have an apartment?" Hermione asked amazed. Candi nodded and picked out a rather large owl.

"When you live by yourself, you have to stay somewhere, right?" She asked Hermione, paying 5 sickles for the owl. She tied some of the parcels to the owls leg, and it flew off.

"I suppose, I just never really thought about it." They left the office, Candi's arms much lighter. "Wanna stop at the Three Broomsticks?"

"Sure." They made their way down the street and entered the cosy bar. It wasn't too full at the moment, the weather wasn't too good outside.

"Butterbeers dears?" Madam Rosmerta came over and seated them at a table near the window.

"Yes please." Hermione said. She clicked away.

"Hermione, we need to talk." Candi began, a little hesitantly.

"About what?"

"Um...Harry." Hermione almost fell out of her chair.

"Sure...what about Harry?" She righted herself. Candi accepted the butterbeers from Rosmerta.

"Well....what about him?"

"Like, what do I think about him?" Candi nodded. "I guess I see him as a good friend."

"That's it?" Candi was rather disappointed for Harry.

"Well, if you promise not to tell...."

"Promise!" Candi leaned foward, her butterbeer forgotten.

"Sometimes....I get the strangest feeling that I like him...alot. It was happeneing when I was with....with Ron. Is that bad?"

"No, I don't think that's bad. But I don't know if I should tell you this..."

"Oh, c'mon Candi! Let me in! I'm practically your best friend, next to Harry!" Hermione begged. "Don't hold anything back from me!"

"If you promise not to tell Harry I told you." Candi said firmly. Hermione nodded. "Well....Harry likes you Hermione."

"Alot?" Hermione's face lit up slightly.

"Yea.....he got really jealous when you and Ron started dating." Candi admitted. This wasn't necessarily true. He got jealous only the beginning of this year. But if Hermione didn't know, then whatever.

"Oh wow...thanks for telling me Candi." Hermione couldn't stop smiling. They left Hogsmeade an hour later, a smile still on her face.

Candi and Hermione were back at the Common Room just before dinner. Harry noticed Hermione's smile, and Candi pulled him aside.

"She likes you too Harry. A lot."

"Really?" Harry's eyes lit up. "How did you ever find out?"

"A girl has her ways. Now c'mon, I'm starving." She linked arms with Harry and escorted him to the Great Hall.

An explosion met them there. In the middle of the hallway stood Hermione and Ron at opposite ends, one looking ready to kill the other. Harry and Candi exchanged nervous glances. This didn't look so good.

"So you were out the whole day, and didn't even let me know?" Ron roared at Hermione. She looked ready to cry, but held her ground.

"I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU EVERYTHING RONALD WEASLEY! WE'RE NOT DATING ANYMORE, REMEMBER?"

"THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T TELL ME THINGS FROM TIME TO TIME!!" Ron shot back. Hermione lost it.

"I DON'T BELIEVE YOU! YOU GO AROUND AND TELL ME WHAT TO DO BEFORE WE'RE DATING, WHILE WE'RE DATING, AND NOW I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO TRY IT WHEN WE'RE NOT!! STOP TRYING TO RUN MY LIFE RONALD! I'M SICK OF YOU! I CAN'T BELIEVE I WAS EVER YOUR FRIEND!"

Hermione burst into tears and ran from the hall. Ron, caught off guard, looked stunned for a few minutes. Harry looked at Candi. She nodded, and mouthed, I'll take care of Ron. Harry threw her a grateful smile and rushed after Hermione. Candi went to Ron and took his arm.

"C'mon, before the whole school comes over...like they haven't already." She led him into the Great Hall. They sat down, and Candi saved a place for Hermione and Harry.

"Why for Hermione?" Ron asked grumpily.

"Cause she's still my friend. And as her friend, I think I have a right to know: Why did you guys fight anyway?"

Ron looked away. Candi looked at him. "I....I thought...she was with...Harry." He finished miserably. Candi looked at him, shocked and slightly disgusted.

"Why do you care? You two broke up."

"I didn't...she did." Ron said quietly. "I never stopped loving her."

"But she doesn't love you anymore, does she?" Candi asked him, a little more tenderly. Ron shook his head sadly. "Well, I can't say I blame her for blowing up at you."

"But-but-" Ron spluttered.

"No Ron. You have no right to get mad at her. She was with me the whole time. If you guys were still talking, then you'd know."

"But she-"

"No Ron, you stopped talking to her when you and I had that fight. Don't lie." Candi warned him, and Ron fell silent. Candi looked at the doors. Where were Hermione and Harry?

Harry raced after Hermione as soon as he was given the ok from Candi. He had a rather hard time finding her, but finally found her in the Charms hallway, crying silently.

"Hermione?" She flinched. "It's me, Harry."

"HARRY!" Hermione cried out, and Harry embraced her. For a brief, shining, moment, they were the only two students in the school, the whole world. Then she broke away from Harry.

"How are you?"

"Completely awful." Hermione hitched a breath. "I should have told Ron where I was going-"

"No." Harry said firmly. "There's no reason too. You don't tell me everything, why should you have to tell Ron?"

"I.....I....I don't know." Hermione trembled, and Harry pulled her towards him. She pulled back, but then fell against his chest, sobbing.

He pushed her back slightly, so they were facing each other. Harry put his hand under her chin, and lifted it up so their eyes met. He bent down, and Hermione didn't resist.

Their lips pressed together, and they were clasped in a whirlwind of excitement and passion. Harry plunged his hands into Hermione's golden brown hair as the kiss deepened. Hermione broke away and gasped for air, but went back for more.

This is how Ginny Weasley saw them as she was walking from dinner.

Ginny hid behind the corner when she saw Harry and Hermione talking to each other. It wasn't like she didn't trust her boyfriend, it was just.....she could see a spark between them, and it was begging to be ignited. She peaked around the corner.

"Oh no...." She whispered. They were kissing each other! And it wasn't a friendly peck on the cheek. Her eyes filled with tears, then a rage overcame her.

They embraced, and walked off. Ginny ran up behind them and was careful to be as quiet as possible.

"You know, you're still dating Ginny, aren't you?" Hermione asked shyly.

"I suppose....but I could easily break-up with her. Ron didn't approve of us going out anyway."

"And naturally, that makes it ok to break-up with me?" Ginny burst out. Harry and Hermione jumped 10 feet in the air.

"GINNY!" Harry yelped. "I-I didn't see you there."

"Well, I saw me here....and I saw you over there." Ginny pointed behind her. Hermione turned bright red.

"Gin...I-"

"Save it Hermione!" Ginny cut her off. "I know what you're expecting. You want me to get angry and break-up with Harry, so you don't have to worry about sneaking behind my back."

"Gin-" Harry began.

"NO! That's not going to happen. We're still together Harry. You were just comforting Hermione. Natural. These things happen. So we're cool."

"Ginny, please, listen to him." Hermione begged.

"Hermione, stop it. Harry, let's go." Ginny clutched at Harry's arm and led him away.

"Ginny, what was that all about?" Harry wrenched himself away as they came back into the Common Room.

"Harry, you and I are dating, not you and Hermione. You just forgot that, I understand." She explained patiently.

"Don't patronize me Ginny. I love Hermione." Harry said angrily. Ginny paled, her face sharply contrasting with her firey red hair.

"So....you never loved me? It was...just to get Hermione's attention?"

"It didn't start out that way Gin. I did admire you, and like you alot. But I see you more as a little sister, not as a...a....a lover." Harry blushed.

Ginny stared at him for a few minutes. Then slapped him across the face. Her handprint stood out, bright white, then red. She ran up the stairs, crying.

"Gin, wait!" Harry ran after her, but slid down when the stairs changed into the slide. Hermione came through the hole and ran to him.

"Harry, what-"

"She's gone Hermione. I hurt my best mate's sister." Harry said, full of remorse.

"Harry, it's not your fault, it's mine. I should not have given in. Then you two would still be together."

"Hermione, I wanted to kiss you. Because I happen to love you." Harry stood up and embraced her.

"So what do you think I should do now?" Ron asked Candi as they made their way back from dinner.

"Tell her you're sorry you yelled at her. It wasn't your place to interrogate her about where she's going. You don't do that to Ginny, do you?"

"No." He sighed. "I'm glad you're my friend Candi. I need one right now."

"Harry's still your friend Ron." Candi reminded him. "And Hermione wants to be as well."

"Really?" He looked up, hopefully.

"Of course." She took his arm. "You're a cool guy when you're calm."

They laughed. Ron held open the portrait hole door and Candi stepped through. She stared at the sight before her.

Harry and Hermione was lying on each other on the couch, arms wrapped tightly around themselves. Harry was kissing Hermione's neck, and Hermione was stroking his hair. Ron's face exploded once more.

He coughed loudly. They both jumped.

"Hey Ron." Harry said casually. "Congradulate us, my good man."

"For what?" He asked, a little too loudly. Candi kept her arm on him, in case he lost control.

"We're going steady now." Hermione announced proudly.

"And...what about Ginny?" Candi asked.

"We're not together anymore. We....erm...kinda had a row. But that's in the past now." Harry concluded, and got up. He went over to Ron. "We still friends?"

Ron looked at his hand, then at Candi. She raised her eyebrows, and nodded. Ron took Harry's hand and shook it, then went upstairs without another word.

Ron had been distant from the happy couple, and Candi knew why. It was something that Ron had said to her they day they started going out. He said he never stopped loving her. Candi felt it was her duty to do something about this. His appetite was failing, and he was doing even worse in his classes, if that was even possible, because he wasn't asking Hermione for help.

Her chance came Easter break. Hermione was going home, and Harry was going with her. Ron chose to go home, but stayed when he heard that Candi was staying.

"My parents can spend a week without me, they'll live." Ron excused himself to her when he took his name off the 'going home' list.

"Were you going anywhere?" Candi asked as they walked outside.

"We usually spend Easter with Charlie, but I never liked going to his house anyway. His maid is terrible. Muggle, you know?" They went over to the Lake and sat down.

"Yea....I wish I could remember an Easter with my parents." Candi said sadly.

"Why can't you? Surely you guys had an celebration. What about your other family?" Ron questioned her.

"I never knew my other family. We were always on digging sites, and anyway, mom was the only one who really cared about me. The only time I ever made my dad proud was when..." Candi fell silent.

"Yes?" Ron pushed her gently.

"There were a few other kids at the sites, you know? And sometimes, we'd play games. And then we'd get into fights." Candi seemed to struggle. "I beat this one kid up."

"Why?" Ron was shocked that such a gentle person would attack another kid, especially at their age.

"It was something stupid I'm sure. I can't even remember. But I remember mom cleaning my lip. I busted it wide open. I could hear her crying, and my dad talking. He said something like 'that kid's going to kill someone someday'. And mom was mad when he said that." Candi stopped talking.

Ron looked at her. It was like he was just getting to know her. Almost a whole year, and he still knew nothing about this strange girl sitting next to him. He reached out, and put an arm around her. She looked at him.

"Consider this comfort and an apology. I shouldn't treat you like a stranger anymore." Ron said, and Candi nodded. She leaned into him, and they stared out into the water.

"So where do you go for summer break?" Ron asked a few moments later.

"My apartment."

"You have an apartment all to yourself?" Ron was amazed.

"Yea, why?"

"Doesn't that cost alot?"

"Yea, but my parents left me quite a bit of money before they died. They were pretty famous. Dan and Molly Summers?"

"Oh yea, they were on the news last year!" Ron exclaimed. "They were reported missing."

"That's because we were away. I was taking care of them." Candi murmered, hardly noticing he was there anymore. "We must have been gone for 4, maybe even 5 years. Seems longer."

"I'm sorry they're dead." Ron tried to comfort her.

"I'm sorry.....my mom's dead. I hated my dad. Hated him!" She cried out, and slammed her fist on the ground. "Nothing I did was good enough for him. NOTHING!"

"I'm sure he just didn't know what to do." Ron said, but Candi shook her head.

"No...he hated me since the first time he saw me, I'm sure. One, because I was a girl, two, because my name was Canderia, and three, it was because I even existed."

"Candi-"

"NO! He never liked me. Ever." And just like that, she started to cry. Ron took her in his arms and hugged her. She hugged him back, her body racked with sobs of hurt and anger.

"When did they die?" Ron asked, stroking her head.

"Just this past summer. It took me a while to get back to London, about three weeks. I'm all alone Ron." She looked up at him. "I'm the only family I have."

"Candi....you've got me as a friend. And you can borrow my family. Lord knows I have enough." Ron smirked, and Candi gave a weak smile.

"Thanks Ron. That....means alot." They got up and walked back to the castle.

"Wanna hang out over break?" Ron asked her before they stepped into the portrait hole.

"Ew, with you? No way." Candi laughed at his expression. "I'm kidding! I'd love too!"

"Great, I'll owl my parents and tell them we have a new member of the family." Ron smiled, and went to get his owl. Candi looked up at him.

Why doesn't Hermione see what a great person Ron is? She asked herself.

A week had passed since Candi and Ron's little 'talk.' They were now the best of friends, and rumors about their relationship were spreading like wildfire. Candi didn't let it bother her, and brushed it off as folly. Ron's ears turned red when her mere name was mentioned.

"Hey, Ron!"

"No, we're not dating, engaged, lovers, or even sparring partners!" Ron shouted before the person came into view. "I don't love her, and we're NOT RUNNING AWAY TOGETHER TO LIVE IN EGYPT!"

"Umm....I just wanted to say hi." Hermione said timidly. Ron backed off.

"Oh...hi." He turned and walked away.

"Ron! Sit still and talk to me!"

"Now look who's shouting orders." Ron snarled. Hermione fell silent. "You dump me for Harry, and expect me to listen to you?"

"Yes." Hermione said defiantly. "I did nothing wrong, you knew our relationship was headed downwards, and still you-"

"I never stopped caring for you, loving you." Ron said in a dead quiet voice. "It was your own imagination that broke us up."

"Ron, that's not fair." Hermione began.

"No, it isn't fair. Excuse me, but Candi and I have to be somewhere right now." Ron let Hermione see the small spring of tears in his eyes before turning away.

"Ron-"

"Save it Hermione." He kept walking, his back to Hermione. Hermione grew angry. He had no right to treat her in the wrong. She ran up to him and spun him around. She slapped him in the face.

"You shut up and listen to me! You're not being fair, and you know it! I was sick of you always ordering me around, telling me what to do, when to do it, you were driving me crazy! And you didn't bother to find out what was wrong."

"Hermione, I don't care anymore. We're finished, through."

"Don't you walk away from me again!" Hermione shrieked at him. "I WON'T HAVE YOU IGNORING ME!"

Ron whirled around to face her in a rage. He took her face in his hands and kissed her fiercely and hard. Hermione responded violently and the two of them stayed like that for several minutes.

"There....I didn't ignore you. Happy?"

"Why you-" Hermione didn't get a chance to finish her sentence. Ron walked away, leaving Hermione with butterflies in her stomach.

Gotta go, gotta do some school work.

Harry and Candi were alone in the Common Room, a suprise to both of them. But not too much, as it was 11pm. Candi was working on her Potions essay, and Harry was writing a letter to Sirius.

"Argh....killjoys's feathers should be used for solidifying the potion, not while mixing the potion! Geez!" Candi ripped up her paper and threw it into the fire. There were already a small pile of ashes there from further papers.

"Having problems?" Harry asked.

"Oh....yes." Candi admitted. "I've got so many things going on, I can't focus on my potions essay."

"Well, I've finished mine, let me look at yours." He got up and stood over her. He bent down and read what was written. Candi noticed that he smelled....quite wonderful actually.

"Well?"

"There's nothing there." He said simply. Candi rolled her eyes.

"Well....DUH!!! I just through the paper out! It's hopeless, I'm a failure at Potions. Just like Dad said." Candi buried her head in her hands. Her body shook with silent sobs. Harry put an arm around her.

"Candi....c'mon, don't cry....it's just an essay."

"You're right. I shouldn't lose it like that." She dried her eyes and regained her composure.

"There you go." Harry smiled at her, such a warm smile that Candi felt warm all the way down to her toes. What was with her?

"Thanks. What are you doing?" She asked pleasantly. Harry looked at her so hard that she felt like she was being x-rayed.

"Can you keep a secret?"

"Of course Harry. You can trust me with anything." She assured him.

"Well.....see, I have a godfather-"

"Lucky you." Candi muttered.

"And...well, he's not a good person publically."

"Everyone's got problems Harry."

"It's Sirius Black." He said finally. Candi jumped.

"The mass-murderer? You sure know how to pick your relatives Harry." Harry laughed and gently punched her shoulder.

"Stop! He's a perfectly nice person. And he's never missed a birthday."

"You're lucky to have such a caring relative, even if he is constantly on the run, right?"

"Yea, I am." Harry said thoughtfully. "Who's your godfather?"

"I don't know." Candi said, her good feelings gone. Harry noticed her change in mood.

"Oh...I'm sorry Candi." He led her over to the couch and put an arm around her.

"It's ok. Really. I'm better off without family anyway. It just doesn't pay."

"That's what I thought to begin with. But...you're family is all you have Candi. You need them."

"Well, I don't. I don't need anyone." Candi said, more to herself than Harry. Harry forced her to look at him.

"What about me Candi?"

"I...suppose..." They closed their eyes and leaned foward. Just as their lips were about to touch, there was a sound from the portrait hole. Eyes flew open, and the space between them widened as Hermione stormed back into the Common Room.

"That arrogant....oh, I'm so mad!"

"What's wrong baby?" Harry jumped up and went to her. Candi slammed her fist on the couch.

"Darn it!" She whispered silently.

"Oh...just Ron." Hermione said.

"Let's go for a walk. See you Candi." Harry walked out, Hermione on his arm. Candi ran upstairs into her dorm and cried herself to sleep.

Hermione had noticed a change in temperature when she ran into the Common Room last night, and she felt that it came from one person. Candi. Later that day, she confronted her.

"Hey Candi, mind if I walk with you?" Hermione ran up to her during free period.

"Of course not." Candi sensed right away an air of coolness around Hermione, and figured she'd better watch what she say.

"What were you and Harry doing last night in the Common Room Candi?" Hermione got right to the point. Candi stumbled. She didn't even have time to put up a defense!

"We weren't doing anything. At least, not together. Why?"

"Oh, no particular reason." The coolness was definitely there. Candi stopped walking, and so did Hermione. "What's wrong?"

"Hermione, is there something you want to ask me?"

"Yes."

"Well, what is it?"

"I want you to stay away from Harry." Candi just looked at her.

"Why? He's my friend."

"but more importantly, he's my boyfriend. I see the way you look at him. And then, last night...." Candi thrust her hand out.

"What? Wait a minute....what about last night? Nothing happened! You have no right to accuse me of this without some proof." Candi exploded.

"I have every right! He's my boyfriend!" Hermione yelled, sparks flying from her wand. Candi looked at it, slightly nervous.

"No...you...don't!" Candi whipped out her own wand, now more nervous than ever. Hermione was the best witch of their age, and Candi had only just returned to Hogwarts.

"You wanna go?"

"Everte statum!" Candi yelled, and Hermione was sent flying across the hall. "Yes, should be fun."

Hermione got up shakily and regained her stance.

"Furnunculus!" Hermione responded.

"Protego!" Candi quickly put up the Shield Charm. The spell rebounded off it and his the wall. It moaned.

"Impedimenta!" Hermione threw the spell out, and Candi was frozen. "I think you've had enough." She started to walk away.

"Non-verbal spells 'Mione." Candi's voice taunted her from behind. "Locomotor Mortis!" Hermione's legs were bound together.

"You let me go!" Hermione raised her wand.

"Accio Wand!" Candi cried out, and Hermione's wand zoomed from her hand to Candi's.

"Coward! Give me my wand back!" Hermione snarled, enraged.

"You can have it back when you've cooled off. I seem to rememer helping a couple realize they belonged together. I believe it was a boy named Harry Potter who asked me to step in and assist!" Candi said sarcastically.

"Liar!" Hermione shrieked. The bell rang, free period over.

"No. Bye Hermione." Candi tossed the wand inches in front of Hermione's outstretched hand.

"CANDERIA SUMMERS! LET ME GO!" Hermione's words echoed in the halls. Candi ignored them, still seething from Hermione's wild yet dangerously accurate accusations.

Oh dear, not good. I don't like fights. I like this chapter! I think I'm on Canderia's side. She helped, didn't she? and she's right, Hermione doesn't have proof. Canderia's clever than I thought. Please post more!

My friend is always going on about how Harry and Hermione should be together and I never really thought about it but - wow! I like the pairing, and you are doing an excellent job!

Candi stormed into her next class and sat down violently next to Ron.

"Erm...hey Candi, what's the matter?"

"Hermione's my problem." Candi dumped out her books and searched for her Charms textbook. She put it on Ron's desk as she cleared up her own.

"What's she done now?"

"Only accused me of trying to steal Harry from her. The nerve! The absolute NERVE!" Candi threw her textbook onto the desk, then turned to Ron. "So how was your free period?"

"Better than yours, apparently. Harry and I finished our Potions essay. Completely off his rocker, Snape is." Ron complained. Candi tried to take interest, but seemed to be drifting away.

"....and you as well, Miss Summers?"

"What?" Candi shook herself. Flitwick was looking at her, and so was the class.

"I asked if you were planning on practicing for the final exams, Miss Summers." Flitwick repeated patiently.

"Oh...of course Professor." Candi said cheerfully. Ron gave her a funny look.

"You ok?"

"Fine, just-" The door slammed open and Hermione came in, hair flying and furious. She sat down with a thud next to Harry.

"Is everything alright, Miss Granger?" Flitwick asked from his desk, looking concerned.

"Fine Professor. Just had a little scuffle. Fine now." Hermione threw a murderous glance at Candi, and put her arm around Harry. Harry looked at her, suprised, yet pleased.

Candi and Hermione shot each ither dark looks all throughout class. Ron and Harry looked thouroughly confused. When the bell rang, Hermione was the first to leave, dragging Harry behind her.

"That nasty little....c'mon Ron!" Candi pulled Ron out of his chair and out the door.

"I'm coming! No need to yank!" Ron fixed the collar of his robes. They turned the corner to see Hermione and Harry making out in the hallway.

"Why you little witch!" Candi exclaimed. Hermione broke off to smile maliciously at Candi.

"Candi, what's-" Ron's words were cut off as Candi kissed him deeply. Hermione looked over and saw them.

"Is that what it comes down to?" She shouted, and kissed Harry again. The challenge was accepted. Students crowded around the kissing couples, and Harry and Ron were clearly enjoying themselves.

Finally, Hermione had to pull away for a breath. Candi pulled away after a few more seconds in triumph.

"I WIN!" She pumped her hand in the air. Hermione pulled out her wand.

"Watch out!" Neville called from the crowd, but it was too late.

"Petraficus totalus!" Hermione crowed, and Candi was down on the floor, Petrified. Ron glared at Hermione.

"I can't believe you'd do that! What was that for?" He knelt down next to Candi. Hermione pointed her wand at Ron.

"Get away from her. I don't want you near her again!"

"You can't tell me what to do Hermione, we're not dating anymore!" Ron snarled at her. "Locomotor Candi" Candi's body floated in the air.

"Is she ok?" Harry ran over.

"She seems ok. I'm bringing her up to the Common Room. Control your girlfriend." Ron said to Harry.

"Not my girlfriend." Harry said after a thought.

"What?" Ron asked, stopping. Hermione was looking at him too.

"We're breaking up Hermione." Harry said, this time to Hermione. "I can't believe you'd attack my best friend, just because you were jealous."

"Harry, I didn't!" Hermione protested. Harry raised his hand.

"It's over 'Mione. I'll help you with her Ron." Harry and Ron left, Candi between them.

"Harry! Come back!" Hermione called, but Harry didn't turn. She fell onto her knees, tears pouring down her cheeks.

I think Hermione does deserve that. Canderia did nothing wrong. Harry's right, too, how would you attack your friend just because you're jealous?
