This room is, by far, the brightest one in the Department of Mysteries. Clocks can be found anywhere there's a stable spot. A huge crystal bell jar stands at the far end of the room, and it is from this that the sparkling light comes. The bell jar stands on a desk and appears to be full of a billowing, glittering wind. Inside the jar, rising and falling on the glittering current, a tiny object moves through an endless loop. The object is a small humingbird, but it doesn't always stay so; at the bottom of its circuit, the bird is within its egg. As it rises, it hatches and grows into a mature bird by the time it reaches the apex of its path. On the way back down, it becomes a fledgling bird and then reenters its egg, which reforms around it. This progression of time repeats over and over within the jar. Also, a large glass-fronted case stands against a wall within which many Time-Turners of various sizes rest on shelves.

To the very left as you walk in, a dark oak desk sits in front of the whiteboard with a few, thin file folders on it. The nameplate is hard to read, but as you walk closer the name reflects off of the golden background as 'RaeAnn Asteria'. The desk was so neat on it that it was hard to tell if anything had ever been touched. There were few pictures on the desk, if any at all. The drawers were locked, full of personal and departmental items that need not be disturbed. It was so perfect, it was hard to imagine what could be in there.

So step on in, and don't be afraid. The ticking will fade after a while.

"All kinds. It was a muggle cafe, we served a bit of everything." He answered. "Our specialty was gourmet burgers and home cut fries...rather than those nasty greasy fast food kinds..." He explained. Blake didn't see himself as a great chef or anything. He could follow a recipe, he could do an assembly line. But he couldn't make his own concoctions.

"Wow. Impressive. I love kids, but I'm not sure I'd be able to raise them. My older sister has two kids, I love watching them...but I think that might be cause I'm still a bit of a child myself. How old are they?" He babbled good-naturedly, and stuffed his hands into the pockets of his slacks.

Despite getting instructions, Blake was late to work. But could anyone really blame him? The Department of Mysteries was confusing, and he'd never been there before that morning. There were clocks everywhere, and a few other things that he assumed told time in some way or another. He didn't really take time to assess them all. He passed by a case of time turners as he walked further into the room, looking for his department head.

"Hello? Anyone here?" He called loudly, looking around for more people. After a while his ears detected some voice. Blake followed them, and came across a small group of people. He smiled cheerfully at them, and combed his tousled hair out of his eyes. "Morning. Sorry I'm late. Uh....I'm Blake." He stated. This job was the first one he'd had that didn't involve working with family. He wasn't entirely sure how to act really. But in the end of the day he'd never been the type to be unnaturally formal. It would have to be good enough to be himself.

And oh my, now there was someone else. "Hello, Blake. It's nice to meet you. I'm Hunter. And don't worry about being late. As long as it's not too often", he said with a little smile. Probably not a good idea to tell them that it was okay to be late, but he didn't want them to think he was some kind of power hungry dictator.

He listened to the two of them speak to each other for a bit, while he tried to figure out what to do next. He'd never really led a team before. Sure, he'd help settle disagreements and take charge over certain research assignments, but that was more scientific than leadership type stuff. Still, he had to start somewhere. Her cleared his throat and tried to look important, but friendly. Firm, but diplomatic. That type of thing. "So, as I've said, I'm Hunter, and I'm the division head here. For this room, of course." Oh God. What was wrong with him? "Um, just a brief overview of how things here work. As I'm sure you know, time has been one of humanity's greatest puzzles for some time. We've spent decades attempting to understand whether or not time is a substantial, but intangible thing that dictates a part of how we move through life, or whether it is simply something the human mind created in a vain attempt to simplify life further, and how either theory effects as us we live today. What's so interesting about that is that we've hardly progressed, in relation to the time we've spent on it. Paracelsus said, "Time is a brisk wind, for each hour it brings something new... but who can understand and measure its sharp breath, its mystery and its design? ". Hopefully, we will be able to. That's what we do here. Attempt to understand time as well as deal with any time related catastrophes that may - "

His speech ended upbruptly as he stared at one of the clocks on the wall. He noticed it before, when he was first shown to his office. It had been ticking then. Now, it was stock still. And he was pretty sure it didn't run on batteries. He turned back to Blake and Addie. "I'-I'm sorry. I- do you- that clock isn't working, is it?" Maybe he was simply imagining it. That would be preferable, considering the alternative.

"Hannah Leigh-pronounced Ah-nuh-Lay- and Nathan are thirteen, Chris is seven, Josh is four, and the three triplet girls are six." Addie explained.
Then, she greeted Hunter.
"Hi! Do you want me to fix that clock?" she took the clock down and examined the back of it. "Yes, it's just been disturbed by a flyaway spell. But the spell must of been a few years ago, apparently it's been slowly deterioting..." She stopped.
"Likeiada", she muttered. "There, good as new." she said brightly and replaced it.

Wow. Seven kids at her age? It was a good way to spend your time and energy...but wow. To be a mother at such a young age, to have no other choice but to take care of them. Blake wasn't entirely sure what he'd do if Josey died and he had to take in Evelyn and Nate in. If she died there would be no other choice. His mother wasn't in a position to raise two young magicians. She'd not have lasted with him had his father not been there. She'd never be able to take care of Evie and Nate. Josie had already realized that and talked to him about it. He was their godfather...he'd take them in if something happened. But seven?

"As I said, impressive. I'm not sure I'd ever be able to do something like that." Blake stated and shook his head once. "Well if you and the kids are ever craving a good burger let me know. I'll come over and grill you some up." He offered, feeling a bit foolish about it...but not going back one way or another. He needed to make friends. He needed to form friendships with people if he was going to be living here. How would he make friends if he was constantly worried about sounding stupid?

"Its good to meet you, Hunter." Blake stated with a smile, then listened as he explained their job in this room. Then came the broken clock...Blake watched hesitantly as Addie stepped forward and examined the clock, fixing it without a second thought. "So what do all these clocks do? I'm assuming they are more than what they appear?" Blake stated, looking over at their Division Head.

"Thanks!" she said to Blake's offer. As she heard Blake's question to Hunter, her brain started having some ideas about the clocks.
Maybe they are some kind of chart.
Maybe they are something like a muggle seismogram.
Maybe, they are a portal to Hogwarts, like a portkey!
None of these ideas seemed realistic though. It could just be a regular clock, but it was the Department of Mysteries.

Hunter's mouth opened and closed as he watched Hannah seemingly fix the large clock. It was so strange, how much magic was used here. He stared at the clock warily. It seemed to be good as new...for about 10 seconds before it started wavering. Something was wrong. He looked around at all these clocks, having no idea what they did. He hadn't gotten briefed yet.

"Well, thanks for trying. I believe these clocks can not be fixed by regular means", he said confidently. How he managed to sound confident was beyond him at the moment.

Hunter gave Blake a tentative smile. Yes, these seemed like good people. He was glad to have them on board. "Yes, you're correct in that assumption. What specifically they do, I'm not sure yet as I haven't been fully briefed", he admitted a bit sheepishly. He would get there. Eventually. "But I imagine some of them control anything but time. Or rather, time for different things. For example, imagine having a clock count down the minutes of your life." Okay, that was morbid. Hunter couldn't help finding it fascinating though.

He looked back and forth between the two for a moment. He wanted to know more about them, of course. That way he would know what kind of assignments they could handle and whatnot. "So, tell me", he started, addressing them both. "What made you want to work in this room. And what do you expect to do here?" Yes, bluntness was always good.

It was easy to assume that people wouldn't have gone to such trouble to keep this room a secret if the items in it could just be fixed with the simple flick of a wand. Sure, it looked like just another room filled with clocks, and for most of his life Blake would have taken it for just that...He'd been raised with muggles so in his mind what you see is what you got. Everything had changed though. He wasn't in the muggle world any more. He was in the magical world, and a room full of clocks wasn't likely what it seemed.

When the clock started wavering again Blake wasn't terribly surprised. It had been a good try on Addie's part...but these clocks were weaved with magic, more than one spell would be necessary to get it running properly again.

"Ironic name this room has. 'The Time Room' when there is little time being measured in here. Not in the usual sense at least." His gray eyes shifted to the chicken clock, then back to Hunter. He could see the discomfort on the man's face. Blake grinned in response, hoping to ease the man's discomfort. They could just figure out this department together.

Blake had heard of one such clock in the biography of Harry Potter...a clock that kept track of humans whereabouts. Perhaps they'd be making such things in here. Or repairing them...or just storing the more dangerous ones. A dangerous clock...what would your mother think? Blake thought in amusement.

"Well for me when one of my old teachers found out I was moving to England she told me this department was hiring. She's the one that suggested I apply for the job. The woman had been my Divination Professor at Salem Academy. She thought that this job was right down my alley. At the moment I just really want to understand everything in here." He confessed. There were so many clocks around the room...there was so much to learn.

Ah. Finally someone who shared his obsession with knowing how everything worked. "Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I haven't been a position where I didn't know exactly what was going on for a while. It's...uncomfortable", he said, grasping for the correct word. That word was a bit of an understatement, but it worked for now. "Though I must admit, I am a bit excited about being able to discover something new", he confessed.

He listened to Blake talk and furrowed his brows a bit in thought. A Divination's Professor, who dealt in basically guesswork, recommending a scientific branch of the ministry. How intriguing. "Wonderful. Perhaps I should send her a fruit basket for sending such a promising employee my way", he said with a bit of a smile. "At any rate, I hope you enjoy it here. I think I will." He wondered if it was perhaps a bad idea to voice his insecurities, even if his indication was subtle.

He glanced back at the clock. It was unsettling him and he didn't know why. Maybe he should have a talk about it with the department head. Surely he would know something about it. And it would release his worries.

Addie shrugged. "I guessed that would'nt fix it, that's for muggle clocks." she paused.
"I've always been...fascinated by time. When my sister died about two months ago, I was, I guess, mad at time. But when I was asked to take care of her children, I couldn't say yes fast enough. They taught me that time is the-to use the cliche-healer of all wounds."
She paused.
"Does that make sense?"

"OH yes. If I'd not gotten a job in this department not knowing what was down here would have driven me nuts for years." Blake stated with a laugh. His sister always did tell him he was the nosiest person alive. Blake had always shrugged it off though. If an argument was supposed to be private, don't have it in the middle of the Safeway. There was always an excuse to stick your nose where it didn't belong.

"I'm certain I'll love it here." He agreed with a nod of his head. Professor Townsend did teach a subject that involved a lot of guessing, but how were you supposed to wrap your head around something this obscure if you couldn't open your mind to different possibilities. Blake was only good at Divination because he understood the rules, because he knew how it worked and was good at putting two and two together. He'd found a way to turn Divination into a science.

"So, what are we going to be doing? Keeping the clocks clean? Fixing them? Do we make time turners down here?" He babbled. Maybe they'd have to go through some training first for something like that...but this was the Department of Mysteries...it wasn't like everyone knew what went on down here. He was allowed to have a few questions.

Hunter listened to Addie tell her story. It was so depressing. He shifted uncomfortably. "Yes, it actually makes a lot of sense. When a person experiences an overwhelmingly negative event, they often times end up investing themselves into a factor or cause of the original event. The mind assumes that if it can understand what happened and why more fully, it will allow the person closure of sorts. It's actually one of our more positive defense mechanisms." Okay, he was shutting up now. She no doubt knew all of this already, seeing as she'd gone through it. Still, uncomfortable situations compelled him to babble. A defense mechanism of his own, he knew.

He turned his head towards Blake as the man spoke, thankful for something easier to talk about. "Yes, I still haven't asked the department head if I'm allowed to enter into any of the other departments. It's a bit frustrating being surrounded in mystery and not being able to access it.

And oh, the questions. He was caught a bit of guard since he was new as well, but he took a best guess. "Well, the clocks will need to be cleaned now and again, but that isn't a major part of the job. Our job is to research current theory and attempt to prove or disprove it. We'll also be creating new theories and testing them in order to better understand time as a whole and its separate compartments. We'll also be in charge of dealing with any time related catastrophes that appear, though I hope those are few and far between. Hundreds of people tearing up the fabric of time by abusing time-turners could be...completely and irreversibly destructive." Just thinking about the havoc that could wreak gave him cause to shudder. "I think the first thing we'll need to do is meet with the department head. We can see if he wants us to put our focus on any particular area."

Feeling a bit more comfortable now, Hunter gingerly stretched his back before looking back at his team and giving them a smile. "So, any other questions?" He wondered if there were any more employees that simply weren't here today. Not that he needed any. No, this team looked as if they would do a splendid job. He sure had lucked out.

Addie smiled. Her new team seemed nice. Hunter was intelligent, and Blake had been very friendly to her so far.
"No, none from me." Addie said.
She frowned in thought.
"So, what are we doing today? I guess that counts as a question, though." She looked at the somewhat broken time-turners. "Are we fixing these?"

As horrible as it was, Blake was almost looking forward to the first catastrophe. OK, it was wrong to hope someone would abuse their time turner...but come on! How fun would it be to go get out on the field? This job meant he'd get to jump time, that he'd become an expert on a field that few even thought about. This definitely beat cooking back home. Blake nodded along as Hunter explained their job to the best of his abilities. Blake felt a bit bad for pushing him so much when he hadn't been fully trained himself...but things would get easier, and he wasn't hardly judging Hunter for any of this.

"No, that's all for me. I'll let you know if anything else comes up. Should Addie and I just stay here while you go talk to the department head or is he going to want to meet us?" Blake asked, then laughed. "Ok I guess I had one more question in there." He stated in amusement. Childish much? He thought, not letting his scolding through bother him. Fine. He was a bit immature at times, but that didn't mean he wasn't qualified for this job. It just meant he knew how to have fun.

Hunter sighed quietly, mostly in relief. They seemed at least mildly satisfied by his answer. "Yes, I think he'll definitely want to meet you guys. He should be along any minute now." Hopefully. Perhaps he should send him an owl? No, he'd wait a bit longer.

He glanced at the broken time-turners that Addie had mentioned. Oh dear. He had no idea how to fix those. It couldn't be too hard though. Right? "Um..well, the department head is going to let us know what he wants us to focus on so we don't have an official assignment yet, but for now, we can attempt to fix those. If nothing, we should learn more about them." He smiled a bit at the thought of learning how they worked. So intricate. "And remember, there's also a cafeteria and I think a park outside, so if you'd like to do some exploring, feel free. Once we have an official assignment, I have a feeling that we aren't going to have much free time." At least he hoped not. Free time was boring. At least to him.

Hunter frowned as he tried to think of how they might fix it. He shuffled through some papers, muttering quietly to himself. Finally, he spoke. "You know, I don't think that we'll be able to fix this by magic alone. I have a feeling that we'll need to use magic and manual manipulation for this one." Okay, this was not good. Now he was just making things up.

He picked up a time-turner and started silently casting spells on it. "I guess all we can do is trial and error", he said with a weary sigh. Where was Elijah? How could he run things when he had no idea what he was doing.

"Okay!" she could tell Hunter was nervous for Elijah to come. She thought a bit and smiled. "You're right," she added. She poked a time turner with her wand, and it let out blue sparks. "Ha!" she laughed out loud. When she poked something like a broken glass with her wand, the sparks were green. Because, she realized, the reparing spell was green! "Quick, do you know any reparing spells that are blue?"

Hunter looked up, a bit puzzled. Blue repairing spells? Huh? "Do you mean the color of the li-" and he never got to finish that sentence because at that moment, his time turner blew up and springs and pieces of metals flew everywhere, one hitting him right in the left eye. The room vibrated and the lights flickered on and off. It felt like an earthquake. But there were no earthquakes in London, were there?

The shaking and flickering stopped as soon as it had started, for which Hunter was relieved. Still, he felt...strange somehow. Dizzy and light and giddy and what on earth was going on? And then there was blackness. Hunter Grey had fainted.

"Ohmigosh!" Addie exclaimed as Hunter's time turner blew up. She immediatley said "Auguamenti" when he fainted, but then thought about it. "Oh...Ennervate." she muttered. What had happened?

She quickly examined his Time Turner. (Or the remnants of it.) She didn't see anythong unusual about it. It did look somewhat sharp though. In a moment of unintelligence, she touched her finger to an edge. "Ow!" she murmured. Her hand bled and she wrapped a stray piece of her robe around it.

Patrick, Knocked on the door and entered the bright time room. His pupils shrunk from passing from the quite dark hallway this this extremely well lit room. ''Hello? Anyone in here? I'm looking for the time room..i assume this is the place. I'm the new guy'' He said calmly, not seeing anyone. He walked further into the room and passed the corner right by the door and noticed some life. ''Ah. There we have some people. Anyone willing to help me with starting the job then?'' He asked. At this point his eyes had gotten used to the light and he was acting normal again.

Addie looked up from Hunter who hadn't gotten up yet to see a new employee. "Yes, this is the time room." she said. "Um...is there any way you can get this man to stand up again? He fainted and Ennervate didn't work." Her eyes twinkled with apologies. She glanced again at Hunter and sighed. What could she do? If Ennervate didn't work...."We might need to take him to St. Mungos."

Robert raised an eyebrow. ''He just..fainted? Just like that? What a first day of work'' He said walking over to Addie. ''Hmm..I think i need to know more than that to be able to be more than a minor aid'' He said as he took out his wand.
''Have ye tried Rennervate? Ennervate might not have worked but Rennervate may work. Subtle difference between the two'' He took out a small book. ''This is me spell book. Helps me remember all these spells. I keep it around just in case. And look'' He pointed at a certain part in the book. ''Ennervate - A reviving charm that will return an individual to their normal state. And here:Rennervate - A charm to revive an unconscious person'' He closed the book and pointed his wand at the man. ''Rennervate!'' he exclaimed and no sooner had he spoken the words than a blue flash erupted from the tip of his wand that consumed the mans body before disappearing as if it where fog.
Patrick stood still with his eyes glued to the unconscious body of the man. He waited to see if they got any results.

"Oops." Addie giggled. This had been very embarassing today."Well, it's my first day too. I hope that works, we were just reparing some time turners and his, well, exploded." She paused. "He's Hunter Grey, our division head." she explained.

''Right. Now all that is left to do is wait about a minute. Depending on how serious the explosion was, it can take some time before the spell takes effect. Now..onto a lighter note. I'm Patrick Moran'' Patrick said as he put away his wand. ''Well, even if it IS your first day too, you already seem to know more about the job itself than me so...Anything important i should know before i get to work?'' He asked and adjusted his suit.

"I'm Addie Carlisle. Um, no, we've really been guessing at this. We were just trying to fix these time turners." She glanced again at Hunter, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. She expected more of herself.
