Default The Planet Room

This room is incredibly dark, and filled with planets. It's a bit odd, and sometimes an anti-gravity charm is put inside, to keep things balanced; this can result in floating around for several hours on end.

Joshua thought for a moment. Hmm....what did he like most.....Mars. "I like Mars.. ...he said thoughtfully. Then he pulled out a piece of paper. "But I already have those notes..." He said, handing them to him.

NOTES:
Mars
1. The normal temperature on Mars is approximately -67 F, Martian surface temperatures range widely from as low as -207 F at the winter pole to almost 80 F on the day side during summer. WOW!
2. Even though Mars is much more smaller than Earth, the surface acreage is pretty much the same as the surface acreage of Earth.
3. Mars has a very interesting landscape, these are just to name a few: Olympus Mons: the largest mountain in the Solar System rising 24 km (78,000 ft.) above the surrounding plain. Tharsis: a huge bulge on the Martian surface that is about 4000 km across and 10 km high.
Valles Marineris: a system of canyons 4000 km long and from 2 to 7 km deep.
4. The southern hemisphere of Mars is mainly old cratered plateaus somewhat similar to the Moon.
5. Most of the northern hemisphere of Mars is made of plains which are much younger, lower in elevation and have a much more complicated past.
6. The inner part of Mars is a very dense core about 1700 km in range a molten rocky mantle a little bit denser than the Earth's and a thin crust.
7. Mars' crust is about 80 km thick in the lower portion but only about 35 km thick in the north.
8. Mars is second on the list that says which planet is most Earth like, Earth is first! Scientists have found traces of water on Mars, this could mean life once lived here!

Joshua stared at the planet while his boss read the notes he took in school.

He couldnt wait to hear more from Joshua.

Looking to Elizabeth, he listened to what she had to say about Jupiter. "Thats intersting Elizabeth. Dont you think? One question, Does Jupiter have any rings? One more question I have is, it a outer planet or an inner planet, of the solar system?" he asked her. He held up his clipboard to record what she says.
[looks up at santana] Jupiter does have rings but they are very faint, and its magnetic field is 14 times as strong as Earths is, Jupiter is considered an outer planet due its distance from the sun. If you have anymore questions don't be afraid to ask.

Ginny looked at Mars it was realy cool. She started writing notes.

1.Marsis the fourth planet from the Sun in the Solar System. The planet is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. It is also referred to as the "Red Planet" because of its reddish appearance as seen from Earth.

2.Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, having surface features reminiscent both of the impact craters of the Moon and the volcanoes, valleys, deserts and polar ice caps of Earth. It is the site of Olympus Mons, the highest known mountain in the Solar System, and of Valles Marineris, the largest canyon. In addition to its geographical features, Mars’ rotational period and seasonal cycles are likewise similar to those of Earth.

3.Mars has approximately half the radius of Earth and only one-tenth the mass, being less dense, but its surface area is only slightly less than the total area of Earth's dry land. While Mars is larger and more massive than Mercury, Mercury has a higher density. This results in a slightly stronger gravitational force at Mercury's surface. The red-orange appearance of the Martian surface is caused by iron.

4.Mars has two tiny natural moons, Phobos and Deimos, which orbit very close to the planet and are thought to be captured asteroids.

5.It is not well understood how or when Mars came to capture its two moons. Both have circular orbits, very near the equator, which is very unusual in itself for captured objects. Phobos's unstable orbit would seem to point towards a relatively recent capture. There is no known mechanism for an airless Mars to capture a lone asteroid, so it is likely that a third body was involved—however, asteroids as large as Phobos and Deimos are rare, and binaries rarer still, outside the asteroid belt.

Santana was yet again amazed at the man's knowledge. "You astonish me with how much you know. You say this is past notes? This teacher of yours was good at his job." he chuckled. He was glad to have Joshua as his co-worker.

Looking back to Elizabeth, he nodded at her answers. "That is correct. Very good with your other observations too." he said to her. "Antything else you can find on Jupiter?"

He then saw that Ginny had also found some things on Mars. "This is all very good. Very informative. Would you like to move onto a new planet? We still need to observe, Venus, Earth, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus." he said to her.

[looks at santana] Yes, there is Jupiter is one of the four gas giants. It is also the largest planet in our solar system. Jupiter is also covered in clouds that are made of ammonia crystals. Jupiter also rotates around the sun faster then all the other planets.

"Uh...excuse me....Venus is already done sir....." Joshua said nervously to his boss. He didn't want him to think he was sly.

"Thank you, sir" Joshua said to the comment about his teacher. One problem. He was his own teacher. "But I....er.....taught myself because astronomy was to boring for me.....I already knew it all..." He said rather modestly. Though he was very good at astronomy...

"Very good Elizabeth. Would you care to take on a new planet now?" he asked her. "You are welcome to continue studying Jupiter if you like." Jupiter has always been such an interesting planet to him. It was such a mysterious planet.

Turing back to Joshua, he hit his head. "And so it is! I must be getting old." he chuckled. Even though he was only twenty five, he was very forgetfull. Listening as he explained he was his own teacher, Santana nodded. "Yes I taught a lot to myself also. Even though my father was an astronmy major, he didnt teach me everything." he said with a wink.

Looking back to Ginny, he smiled. "Go ahead a observe. Im glad you enjoy it as much I do." he said to her.

Joshua chuckled along with him. "Your father was an astronomy major? Interesting...." He said, thinking about the amount of talent his boss must have. "So....what should I do now? Maybe I could get something new out of Mars..."

Okay lets see this is Saturn

1.Saturn (pronounced /ˈsætɚn/) is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in the Solar System, after Jupiter. Along with the planets Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune it is classified as a gas giant (also known as a Jovian planet, after the planet Jupiter).

2.It was named after the Roman god Saturnus, equated to the Greek Kronos (the Titan father of Zeus) and the Babylonian Ninurta. Saturn's symbol represents the god's sickle. The day in the week Saturday gets its name from the planet.

3.The planet Saturn is composed of hydrogen, with small proportions of helium and trace elements. The interior consists of a small core of rock and ice, surrounded by a thick layer of metallic hydrogen and a gaseous outer layer. The outer atmosphere is generally bland in appearance, although long-lived features can appear. Wind speeds on Saturn can reach 1,800 km/h, significantly faster than those on Jupiter. Saturn has a planetary magnetic field intermediate in strength between that of Earth and the more powerful field around Jupiter.

4.Saturn has a prominent system of rings, consisting mostly of ice particles with a smaller amount of rocky debris and dust. Sixty known moons orbit the planet. Titan, Saturn's largest and the Solar System's second largest moon (after Ganymede), is larger than the planet Mercury and is the only moon in the Solar System to possess a significant atmosphere.

5.Due to a combination of its lower density, rapid rotation, and fluid state, Saturn is an oblate spheroid; that is, it is flattened at the poles and bulges at the equator. Its equatorial and polar radii differ by almost 10%— 60268 km vs. 54364 km

6.The other gas planets are also oblate, but to a lesser extent. Saturn is the only planet of the Solar System that is less dense than water. Although Saturn's core is considerably denser than water, the average specific density of the planet is 0.69 g/cm³ due to the gaseous atmosphere. Saturn is only 95 Earth masses, compared to Jupiter, which is 318 times the mass of the Earth.

Ginny looked around "hey which planet do all you think is the most beautiful i i like saturn"

Ok, I guess I'm going to study mercury if it has not already been studied if it's ok with everyone.

[floats near mercury to go examin it]Hmm...mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system that orbits the sun.

[looks over at josh] Yea, these are very interesting to study. [looks away and begins to study mercury some more] Hmmm......Mercury is very similar to the moon. It takes 59 days for Mercury to rotate around the sun.

Wow, these craters are somewhat fascinating.[looks around some more] In the core of this planet it has a high iron content. when viewed on Earth it is the brightest planet.

Santana read through Ginny's list on Saturn. "These are strong notes you have here Ginny. Saturn has been one of my favorite planets also." he smiled. He nodded a yes over to Elizabeth and Joshua as they moved over to new planets. They were really working hard, and he was proud of them.

Noticing that they were begining to notice moons of the planets, he wondered if they should start on that next. Maybe wait until tomorrow. "Craters are usually seen all over planets and their moons. Do you see anything unusual about the craters?" he asked.

Preferably i like jupiter. The craters were formed from the meteors that hit the planet.

Joshua drew some diagrams of Mars' craters. "Just have to add the lines....and .....done!" He said, handing them over to his boss.
