The Office of the Invisiblity Task Force and Experimental Charms Committee

The Office of the Invisiblity Task Force and Experimental Charms Committee
Much to your surprise, the old Invisiblity Task Force office and the Experimental Charms office are completely empty. Where did everyone go?
Never fear, as a new door has sprung up a few feet away. A shiny new nameplate is posted to the door reading:
The two offices have now joined into one. There are many more desks than your average office to accomadate all the employees.
The responsibility of the Invisibility Task Force is to magically conceal things (such as buildings and other areas of importance) from the Muggle eyes. One example of the Force's work would be the powerful charm that hides Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from Muggle view. They are also in charge of upkeeping the protective enchantments on this level.
As for the Experimental Charms Office, this committee is in charge of handling any experiments that wizards and witches conduct using spellwork. If someone presents a new spell that they "invented" to the committee, it is their job to determine whether or not the new spell is dangerous or not, and whether it should be registered. Also, if any reports of dangerous experiements come in, the committee should take care of the situation IMMEDIATELY. If you have some free time, it is all encouraged that you dabble in experimentation yourself to come up with some new charmed objects for us!
All employees in these two offices may work together on plots for BOTH offices.
"I am really glad that things are going good with Craig, Mel! I am SO happy for you! Well, who knows what will come of Silas and myself, as I said I am always onthe verge of hexing him!" she laughed.
"I can't believe that no one is answering til now. By the way... have you seen or heard from anyone from the Task Force? I am really eager to get started on the project, but can't seem to find anyone..." Dora had settled down and taken out her work folder and quill.
"Nop, not really, I think we've been abandoned" she said pretending to cry, and bursting into laughter after. Dora seemed to be getting ready to get some work done, Melanie thought the same and stayed quietly working.

"Yeah, I think we have been!" Dora pretended to be sulking and laugh with Melanie. "You know, I think I will step into the breakroom and see if I can find anyone. I'll be back later Mel." Dora said smiling.

Abigail walked down the hallway, heading towards her officem with her brunette hair tied up in a messy bun behind her head. She had her usual cup of coffee in her hand, but today she didn't have a copy of the Daily Prophet. Sadly, Miss Weather had been running late this morning and she only had time to grab her coffee and purse before she ran out the door. This explain why her hair was a mess and right now, she didn't feel like bothering with her hair.
She yawned as she entered her office and looked around. Seeing a few people in there, she smiled at them before continuing to her desk. She wasn't that late, was she? Hopefully not. She placed her cup of coffee on the desk and her purse underneath the desk on the floor. Sitting down in her seat, she began to dig through the pile of papers.
Those notes HAD to be in there! Abby needed her notes from the conference if she was even going to try to get any thing done today with preparations. As she cotninued digging through the stack, she looked up at Melanie. "Hello," she finally greeted her.

Dora stepped back into the office a bit dazed. When she looked over and saw Abby she perked up a bit. "Hey Abby!" she called, "I have so many ideas for the Quidditch World Cup! I have been practically bursting to tell you!" Dora was bouncing up and down. She bounced over to a desk near Abby's and summoned her bag and notes over.

She continued searching through the pile of papers looking from the notes. Whatever happened to the well-organzed Miss Weather? Sigh. She use to be so organized when she first started working, now her desk was just piled up with thinks. Maybe during lunch break, she could organize some of her things.
"Where are those-" She stopped talking when the thought that she wrote all her notes in her notebook, not one seperate sheets of paper. "No wonder why they aren't in this stack of papers," she muttered to herself as she opened one of her side drawers on her desk and pulled out her notebook. She placed the notebook on her desk and opened it to the first page.
"Okay, I'm ready to hear your ideas," she told Dora.

Dora was radiating excitement! "Well, I have been putting some thougth into the appearnce of the stadium to the Muggle World. Since it is such a big venue I think a drak, dank forrest with loads of creepy noises and what not would be cool. I know you are thinking that Muggles still may thry to venture inside, but not with a strong enough repelling charm. We can actually cast the charm to redirect them so they never enter. That's just one idea of course. What do you think?" Dora finally took a deep breath after spitting all of that out. Working on the Invisibility aspect of things was much more natural to Dora.

Silas walked into the office briefly to deliver a note for Dora. He was on his way home, but wanted to make sure she got his message. "My apologies for disturbing you all; I know you're terribly busy." Leaving a piece of parchment on Dora's desk, he smiled briefly, and retraced his steps back out of the room.

Dora,
I think tomorrow would be a splendid time for a walk. There is an abandoned building not far from the restaurant that would probably be suitable for apparition, and then we can meet out front of the restaurant again and walk from there. Looking forward to it.
With fondness,
Silas

Melanie, had been concentrating on her work, heard Abby's voice and jumped on her sit. She looked up, confused and greeted her back with a smile, before turning back to her sheets.
As she worked, she would listen to the dialogue between Abby and Dora, and she was happy to see that at least someone in this division had someone to work with. She sighed heavily and prepared another set of memos to send her employees, the third in three days. Which gave them only 3 options, ignore her, quit, or get so bored by her insane memos that they would come, just to shut her up.
She smiled at that thought and continued writing.

Abigail listened closely as Dora told her her idea for the planning. Hmm. A Dark forest? She tapped her pen that was in her right hand against the notebook sitting on her desk. "I-" She was cut short when Silas walked into the office to give Dora some sheet of paper. "Hello Silas," she greeted the man with a smile. She hasn't seen that man since the two-headed witch thingy that had happened in Lima's department. "Oh, um, bye Silas," she waved her hand as the man left the office after quickly handing Dora the paper.
"Okay, back to what I was saying," she quickly said after staring at the door for a moment or two. "I like that idea. Very good. I don't know what the chances are of people actually going into a dark forest. I mean, Hogwarts to muggles is an old building with a keep out sign or something in the front, as Ben had said. Nobody has traveled in there. So, I'm just saying, I don't think the chances are high of someone actually trying to walk into the forest." Abby was just babbling now.
Opening her notebook, she write down Dora's idea on an empty sheet of paper. "Dora, have you thought of any ideas for the-" She flipped back a page and read over what she wrote during the conference, "Spray or Charm? Are we going to create an Invisibility Spray or just use a charm on the stadium?" She took her eyes off the notebook and looked at Dora.

"I actually have been toying with some ideas on that one. I have to be honest I have not gotten very far on it, but I think that Demiguise hair could be incorporated into an invisibility potion of some sort then turned into a spray. Maybe. " she said to Abby. "Of course, to be on the safe side both the charm and the spray could be used to give added protection." she waited for Abby's feedback on the matter. Dora had been throwing ideas around since the meeting.

Calla walked toward the doors of the 3rd floor office looking for some sign of the Committee on Experimental Charms. Finally, after many wrong turns, she stumbled upon it. This would indeed be a problem when she tried to leave for the evening as she had no clue which way was up. The door plate said "The Office of the Invisiblity Task Force and Experimental Charms Committee”. She was in the right place, pushing the heavy door open to reveal a vast office filled with many desks she peered anxiously around the room. Calla had recently been hired on to the Experimental Charms Committee and was looking forward to meeting her co-workers. A couple faces turned toward her at the sound of the door creaking open. “Hello, my name is Calla Ainsworth." she spoke strongly, "I am looking for the Experimental Charms Committee.” By the time she made her introduction a couple more faces turned her way, while others turned back to their work.

Melanie's started watering with emotion when she saw a new face entering the office. She had her fingers, legs, toes, hair, crossed in hope. She really wished it was someone for her department. The past few days, after the conference with Ben she had been waiting, sitting, wishing that her department received new employees, after the hole Torquil situation she had been narrowed to... 0 apparently. Until this young lady entered, looking all strong and fresh.
Melanie stood up from her desk, her protuberant 5 month - nearly 6 - pregnant belly pop'ing in front of her. " Hello Calla, you're the in the right place, I'm Melanie Hale, your Department Head!" she said, as strongly and confident as Calla had spoken, her blue eyes were much softer, like a mother's eyes, gentle. " Please, come with me to my desk!" she asked her with a smile while she pointed the direction.

Calla heard someone call to her, Melanie her new boss was waving her over. Calla met Melanie’s blue eyes from across the large office and then drifted down to her largely expanded stomach. Either Melanie was pregnant, or housing a quaffle under her robes; seeing as though this is not the Sporting and Games Department Calla assumed it was not the latter. She made her way to Melanie’s desk. “How are you?” Calla asked Melanie as she delicately held her right hand out. She had wanted to show a strong unfailing demeanor to impress her new boss, but she couldn’t help but soften her poise once Calla realized Melanie was pregnant. As she scanned the room Calla asked, “So, where do I need to place my things?”

"I'm stupendous !" Melanie exclaimed holding the hand she held to her and shaking it vigorously " And yourlself?" she asked Calla while she pulled out a form, she had once given to Torquil for Calla to fill. " I just need you to fill this..." she said handing her the form

“I’m great”, Calla responded, smiled, took a deep breath then continued with a mysterious tone mirroring Melanie, “No clue.. err unless you mean the Quidditch cup?!” Calla was not much of a fan, not that there was anything wrong with Quidditch, but it just wasn’t her type of activity. This was good though, because if it was Quidditch they would be working she would not be distracted by interest in the game, but only the seriousness of the job at hand. Calla smiled, took the form handed to her and turned on her heel. “Where to sit”, she muttered lowly under her breath. Calla took 5 steps and landed herself in the desk closest to Melanie, she wanted to be close to her boss, much like in school when Calla always took a front row seat. Her theory on this was that way there would be no distractions, she could see Melanie, and Melanie could see her. Calla reached inside her bag and retrieved a beautiful quill and started filling out the form. She wished she could fill out that she had a husband, or boyfriend as a contact, but no. She had never let anyone get close enough, so really it was her fault any how. Calla proceeded to scratch her information onto the form.
After 7 minutes she had finished the form, Calla’s head rose from the parchment and before saying anything examined Melanie further. Besides being obviously pregnant, she was a beautiful woman with soft blue eyes. She was sure if crossed Melanie’s eyes would not appear so soft, but rather piercing. Something seemed like it was on Melanie’s mind, but how could Calla know for sure, she had only just met her.
Calla rose from her seat, took the 5 steps again toward Melanie, “Here you are”, Calla said and handed Melanie the form.

ooc: I don't mind at all, it looks amazing ;D great work!
Melanie stayed quietly on her place, humming the same music she can in humming that morning. When Calla gave her the form back, eyes darted across the form quickly, her head nodding.
"Very well" she said smiling and placing the form on the C folder and putting it on a drawer, her smile broke a little when Calla correctly guessed what she was talking about " Yes the Quidditch Cup.. I was hoping you didn't know about that, so I could make a huge drama out of it.. but well " she shrugged and took a flyer from another drawer, it was something she had been making to give her employees, except that she didn't had any until very recently, she placed it on the table and began explaining it's contents to Calla.
"So, here we have: Come up with a spell that makes the field safer for players; report to the stadium around the same time as invisibility task force arrives; make the area safer for children and adults; from all these taskes, the one we must concentrate harder, because we have a dead line it the first one " she took a deep breath " we have to develop safety spells so players who fall off of their brooms won't get injured and the due date is...." she drummed her fingers on the table " October 13th, that's when I have to hand the assignment to my supervisor, Ben, so It would be grat if we could finish it before that date.."
She smiled at Calla, hoping not to be throwing too much information at her " Anything can be useful, a magic mattress, a trampoline spell... shoot up all your ideas, I'm here to brainstorm with you" she said pulling a white sheet, getting ready to write down some ideas.
"So far, I did a little brainstorming with my friend from the Invisibility task force, Dora and we came up with.. invisible gigantic pillow; cushioning charm; larger spongify; pillowfy... but we also have to worry about the playability, the game must not, under any circumstances be influenced by out protective spells... ideas?"

Calla seemed to deflate Melanie’s excitement, and instantly felt the pit of her stomach sink. She did not mean to do this, and she would be mindful not to do it again.
Melanie was giving Calla information as quickly as she could take it in, and Calla enjoyed it. She liked digging and getting to the meat of the situation. It averted her thoughts from other, pressing matters in her private life. Calla’s mind started reeling. “Yes, I can see where an invisible pillow would work, cushioning charm is an excellent idea… yes,” she nodded, “the first thing that comes to mind is actually making the field a gelatin like substance – soft enough to land on, but it is not bouncy. It would significantly cushion the fall.” Calla continued to think, with the end of her finger tip in her mouth, she had a bad habit of chewing on her nails.
Calla continued, “Something soft, pliable, bouncy even?,” she was questioning her own ideas, her mind was spinning. Her voice trailed off. She took notice of some of the other persons in the room; they must be part of the Invisibility Task Force. Maybe later she could meet them. Her mind wondered to her family. Her brother, Merritt, had over the past weeks become a real handful for mum and dad. He was 17, finishing his last year at Hogwarts. Her mum was doing well, but her father was aging and not gracefully either. Calla was a daddy’s girl and couldn’t stand to think of him dying, which was looking extremely certain that it would happen sooner than later, her eyes started to fill up. Suddenly she realized where she was and nearly shouting by accident, trying to regain her composure said, “OR MAYBE,” she calmed her voice and cleared her throat, “… maybe a sort of wind force that swirls on the bottom the field that would keep the players from plummeting to the ground. A repelling charm set 6” or 10” above ground level might do the trick.” Calla rolled the thoughts over again in her swelling brain. “Whatever the Ministry decides to do, I would suggest picking 2 or 3 that will work nicely together. As a safe guard.”
Calla caught Melanie’s eyes, she wanted to ask about her family and get to know her a little bit better, but dared not ask. That has always held Calla back. She never wanted to make someone feel like she was nosey or intrusive. She never had any friends in school, what some might call a loner. Her mind swirled once again, and started an internal argument with herself, “that’s why you have no friends, take a chance, what’s the harm?” She silently answered herself, “well I suppose there isn’t any, and it would be nice to have a friend.” She agreed with herself, “Yes, it most certainly would.” Calla spoke softly, as she was in uncharted territory, “So, I don’t mean to be nosy, but where are you from? Are you married? Do you have any siblings?” She was spitting out questions with rapid fire. Instantly she turned pink in the cheeks and was embarrassed. Her talent was not Social Skills, infact, if it had been on her O.W.L.'s she would have received a T.

Melanie thought about Calla's suggestions and wrote them down " Well, it couldn't be too bouncy, and I think the repelling charm couldn't work, Quidditch players need to have all the air space, they do those tricky things that make us think they'll hit the ground, but they fly up in the last minute, remember?" she said with a wink, still writing down all suggestions, she was cooking something in her head that might work, but they would have to discuss it further, maybe another day.
She observed Calla with her head tilted to the side, she was an interesting person, was she.. talking to herself? she meant to ask what that was about when she shot a few questions in her direction. Melanie smiled and patted gently her growing belly " Well.. I'm from here, Britain, lived her all my life in a little village, my parent's kinda owned it, it's a very restricted circle for... wealthy people, and I'm an only child" she breathed heavily, that was a fact she wasn't really happy about, she didn't really like that society she belonged to, which made her parents so snob "I'm not married.." she said with a smile and raised her hands to explain "...but I have a serious boyfriend, he's the one who's the father" she pointed to her belly " he is the Department Head of the Floo Network Authority" she put down her quill and leaned back on her chair, relaxing " how about you Calla? Want to take this down to the Cafeteria?" she suggested, after all she could use some lunch at that time, and she had another tinny mouth to feed.

Calla smiled at Melanie’s belly. “I’d love to get a bite! I’m famished. I’ll let you lead the way.” Calla made a long swoop with her arm as if to further deminstrate 'after you.'
Ooc: is the cafeteria the breakroom? If not which way do I go! LOL

"Splendid then!" she said happily getting up and leading the way.

Dora had been throwing ideas around since the meeting.
Abigail tapped her pen against the notebook and said, "I do like the idea of using Demiguise hair, but that stuff is really hard to find." She frowned at the thought of not using it, then looked down at what she had written on her notebook so far. "I think Ben wants either a charm or spray. Not both," she added.
She thought for a moment or two on what could be used to make the stadium invisible, then it hit her. "We can use the Disillusionment charm," she said with a smile. "How about that?"

"The Disillusionment Charm sounds great to me. Wow how many of us will have to cast it at the same time to Disillusion such a huge arena?" Dora thought about this. She had only ever cast the charm over herself or another person, never a fixed object. She wasn't really sure how that worked.

Calla was more than elated when she finally found the door labeled, “The Office of the Invisibility Task Force and Experimental Charms Committee”. Once Calla left the cafeteria she found the lifts and the 3rd floor with a fair amount of accuracy. But once on the 3rd floor she got turned around all over again. This time she took her time, carefully memorizing the halls and offices in the 3rd floor – she was determined she was not getting lost again.
She pushed open the doors, scanned the room and didn’t see Melanie yet, but did see two other people. She was sure Melanie would have beaten her there, given the length of time it took to find the office. Calla had determined earlier that the other witches must work on the Invisibility Force. After writing her mum she decided she would go over and introduce herself.
She headed for the desk she had earlier claimed as hers, and plopped down. The weight of the potato she had for lunch was setting in. She pulled out her quill and some parchment and scribbled a small note assuring her mum that all was well and finished the note asking about her father and brother. After rolling it up she attached the note to the owl and it was headed to Dublin.
After staring off into space for a second, Calla got up and walked toward the 2 women talking. As she approached she heard one of them say something about a Disillusionment charm. She waited for a moment, as to not interrupt. “Hi, I’m Calla Ainsworth I’m new to the Experimental Charms Committee. How are you all?” She stuck her hand and smiled sweetly.
