Edward walked off the lifts with Alina and saw the magical fountain. Oddly enough, he also saw Theo and the other woman. Interesting to have found himself in this situation.

Alina followed Edward out of the lift, and followed his gaze across to the fountain. And then she froze. They were there. Together. Her already pale face whitened further, making the dark rings under her eyes even more distinct, and her stomach gave a lurch. For some reason she couldn't take her eyes off their conversation, even though standing there was making her feel sick to the stomach.

She swallowed hard, and almost went to grip Edward's hand for support. All her worst fears couldn't be true, could they? More importantly though, what should she do...hope they hadn't noticed and go to the cafeteria as planned? Or go and confront the two of them? Currently the first one seemed the better option despite the fact she knew that she wouldn't be able to stomach anything. She didn't think she had the strength to go and talk to her husband and Lorraine.

The sound of Edward's voice broke through Alina's thoughts. She managed to pull herself away from staring at Theo and his lady friend, and looked at Edward. Bother. Those tears were threatening again. Blinking furiously she tried to find an answer. But her mouth was dry, and she couldn't come up with anything better than, "Not exactly, no." It came out almost sarcastically, and she feel guilty as soon as she realised. Edward was helping her, she needed to show her grateful she was, not try to bring him down too. "Sorry," she whispered.

She swallowed hard, trying to get some moisture in her mouth. And now that tear came. Only a single lone one at the moment, but it trickled slowly down Alina's cheek as she dropped her head towards the floor. "I don't know I can do this," she said slowly, still looking at her feet.

He knew this was a difficult time for her, so he wasn't angry when she snapped at him. He thought of grabbing her hand to support her, but it may not be the best choice in front of her husband. No need to give him any wayward thoughts.

He looked at her, knowing she was doing all she could to hold it in. He only nodded and said, "It's up to you."

Lorraine sighed and nodded at what Theo had to say. It made sense when he spelled it out for her, but she felt slightly guilty that he had to actually say those words. How Lorraine had managed to recognise her, Alina really had no idea. The elegant outfit she had worn that evening when they met via those...ahem...circumstances was majorly different to the horrendous wreck standing there now. Alina's pale face had red blotchy eyes, dark rings, and was almost ghostly pale. Well, that was really going to entice Theo back from the seemingly stylish but older Lorraine. Older. That was one of the things Alina didn't understand. But then perhaps that older woman didn't have the ties of the kids or that motherish nature. It was ripping Alina apart.

Yet Alina had to stay calm. At least, that's what she was telling herself to do. She put on the neutral mask that had been the way of safely making it through the day in the ministry recently, despite the fact she looked awful, and turned to face Lorraine so as to appear more polite. She was just about to reply with a "Good afternoon" in return, when Lorraine asked what had to be one of the most stupid questions on the planet. And that was when Alina started to lose a bit more what little of her true self she had left after the loneliness she'd felt without her husband and the tiredness from not being able to sleep at night.

"Erm, I wonder!" Alina retorted, as another tear disappeared off down her cheek. "I feel amazing, despite looking like a hag." She rolled her eyes, before the guilt set in again. Alina barely knew this woman. Yes, she might have been stealing her husband, but it was no way to treat anyone, not at work. She closed her eyes, and took a deep breath.

"Sorry," she said, ignoring her husband to the side, even though it was him that she really longed for. It was his actions that had got her like this in the first place. "I'm just a bit, tired, and well, ratty today I guess."

Edward felt the best course of action was to take a step back and allow Theo and Alina to handle this, but then the other woman stepped forward to say something. she actually had the gall to ask how Alina was. What an absolutley stupid question. Edward sensed Alina's anger in her reply, but hten saw her composure return and her sense of propriety regned as she tried to be civil.

Edward noticed Theo whisper something to the other woman and wondered what was so important it had to be whispered.

Lorraine took a deep breath, beginning to regret the confrontation immediately. She watched Alina's expression and could tell that the woman was clearly livid with her, Theo, or perhaps both. Gulping, she closed her eyes wishing she could turn back time and change everything. To choose the option of running away.

It was the sarcastic retort that through Lorraine off guard though. The woman probably needed a psychologist or else a good spin in the floo network, but she wouldn't dare suggest that. She was about to reply to the hag comment with something lame, but was thankful she didn't. Alina apologized!

"It's okay," she told her, trying to remain calm for both their sakes. "You have every right to be livid with me. But yet..." she paused, as she heard Theo whisper something to her.

Blinking, she stared at Theo for a moment or two and then looked towards the security guard. Oh right! Well that was obvious; not like I thought it was her brother or something... Shaking her head, she turned back to look at Alina, more flustered than usual.

"... Alina, right?" she asked in clarification of the woman's name. "I think you should talk to your husband. There may be some misunderstandings."

Edward saw the other woman look at him. He smiled casually, as if he were just taking a pleasant stroll. He knew Alina wasn't happy with Theo or this woman, but he didn't know her and he felt no need to be rude.

Alina allowed herself to glare at Theo's back as he turned round to face Lorraine once more. It seemed that he couldn't even face his wife now. Well, this was going amazingly well so publicly in the middle of the atrium.

Whilst waiting for Lorraine's reaction to Theo's ever so important and secret whispering, Alina glanced round to see Edward had taken a step back. She really didn't blame him from wanting to move away from the whole horrible scene, and she offered him a small smile for his support. If Theo had someone else there, it was only fair for Alina to have someone too.

Alina watched Lorraine carefully, analysing her body language. She was trying to gauge how things were between this other woman and her own husband. Though at the moment it was difficult to tell with all the tension in the air from the two parties. At least it was still civil though.

"I'm not quite livid with you Lorraine," Alina replied quickly, noticing that the Level Six Department Head was looking slightly flustered. "Not yet. It's him I have the problem with." She gestured with her head, and nodded as Lorraine recommended that they talked.

"Well, I'd have tried, but my husband here seems to have been avoiding me." She eyed them both carefully. This was the bit that hurt. "He's barely spoken to me, seems to be unable to recognise me from any other normal employee, and has neglected the twins by leaving home early and arriving home late." Her gaze quickly flickered to an accusing one towards Lorraine, though within a blink it was gone.

She started to fiddle with a curl in her hair, suddenly feeling very exposed and nervous. Afterall, she was a lower employee than the two stood in front of her, and stood more chance of losing her job and good reputation. She was sure the Minister wouldn't be pleased if he caught wind of this. Alina bit her lip, as if she were a child talking to a scary teacher.

"Perhaps we could to one of your offices," she glanced down at the floor, took a deep breath and then lifted her head back up more defiantly. Her voice strengthened...if she wanted Theo back, Alina needed to show him what he feel in love with the first time round. That was what Edward had sort of said, wasn't it? "Somewhere I little less public and looked in upon. I'd hate for someone to lose their job over this."

"Told you this wouldn't work. And I have a meeting to hold," he sighed. He needed to interview any people applying for his vacant position.

Lorraine sighed again, seriously wishing none of this happened. That somebody would have stayed with her at the wedding and then Theo wouldn't have kissed her. That Alina hadn't caught them on the dance floor. Yet for some reason, despite how much she knew it wasn't her fault, she had a feeling it would have happened anyway. If not her, then with some other witch. The only thing that kept her sane was the fact that Alina seemed to agree to keeping things civil.

Nodding with Alina's words, as she told her she wasn't quite livid with her and it was all against Theo, her hazel eyes darted back over to look at him quickly. She was right; it was Theo who seemed to be acting like the child here.

Then she felt more twinges of guilt as it appeared Theo wasn't just neglecting his wife, but his kids as well. She was sure that Alina blamed her, but it wasn't her fault at all. Theo kissed her first; fine she kissed him back, but what else was there to do?

Watching Alina's body language, she also knew that the woman was nervous about her reputation most likely. "That sounds like a charming idea, Alina," she replied finally, in agreement with her suggestion about moving locations.

Alina gave a soft smile to Edward as he stepped towards her. That small movement meant a lot, especially when she was starting to doubt herself. She'd have to package him up a nice bag of cookies or something to say thank you.

Alina nodded gratefully as Lorraine agreed with moving location. It would be so much easier if poeple weren't laying their eyes on her. And she was sure they were currently watching the little gathering by the fountain.

She wasn't exactly sure if she was meant to hear what Lorraine replied to Theo, but Alina did so anyway. It was about time Alina got just a little bit of her own way. "Lorraine's right. Now is good...especially if you want to make that meeting. That gives us an hour for starters."

He flicked out his robes. And began to stroll off.

Lorraine was sure she could feel Alina's eyes staring at her features. She wasn't sure if it was good or bad, but at that moment she wished she had an invisibility cloak. Or just the ability to be invisible would do for right now.

Her eyes flickered back and forth between Theo and Alina, as she caught a subtle smirk by the latter with the comment of the meeting. Of course Alina would know his schedule by heart; that was his job.

Before she could say anything else on the matter though, Theo began to stroll off! Rolling her eyes, once he had his back to them, she looked back at the two standing there. "Well..." she said impatiently. "Are you two coming or what? I believe we have some unfinished business to take care of." With that last comment, she herself strolled off after the Level 7 Head.
