Department of Magical Education
Ronald Jacob Rider

The first thing people notice as they come in to this office is that, from top to bottom, it is a neat mess of relics and souvenirs from all over the world yet it does not resemble an antique store or a storage hourse. The neutral green wallpaper (which, on closer inspection, is actually not solidly green but rather many different shades thrown in together in very small flakes) and dark parquet floor give the room a slightly tropical feeling and that is the most dominant feature of the room.

In the middle of the room is situated a big mahogany desk; the surface of which is covered in dark green felt and usually many papers. Two comfortable looking brown chairs are placed before it for visitors and behind it is another armchair, dark green in colour, on which the Department Head is usually sitting.

The room is very brightly lit due to the window on the right wall which takes up about half of the wall. Opposite it there is a huge bookcase, rows upon rows of books, neatly labeled and organised. The section closer to the table is dedicated to all the books on Education while the one towards the back of the room, behind the desk, is filled with muggle books of all kinds.

On the desk are multiple photographs of a teenage girl as well as a dog, a cat and an owl, all framed with gold coloured wood. Just an arm's reach away from the table there is situated one big, wooden filing cabinet, where information about all the workers is placed.

Please remember to knock before entering as Jake might be holding a ~~super secret~~ meeting. But, even so, he tries to maintain the open door policy the ex-Head had enforced so do not worry about disturbing him - he is always at your service!

~~Just... Knock. Please. The 'open door' policy isn't literal.~~

After much debate, Jake has decided to keep the door open at all times. The change has been brought about so that he could ~~make sure his employees are working~~ seem more approachable to everyone.

Lucy took a long deep breathe and rolled her eyes, remebering all the reasons why she should and shouldn't tell Jake.
"See why I didn't come to you first? I'd freak out about Rachel. You shouldn't have brought Eva's name up." she whispered at her boss/ex-boyfriend/another concerned guy about his family.
She stood up and headed to the door, opening it and waiting for her two bosses to follow. With a lkoud sigh, she responded to Jake.
"No need to do so. I have the letter right here." the letter she had kept in her pocket appeared at the wand's touch. After showing it, Lucy hide it again, reminding herself NOT to get anxious or angry - at Ms. Amerie.

Ignoring the first part of what Lucy said, Jake stood up and briskly walked over to the door, opening it for the two ladies. Even in a crisis. . .

He nodded to Lucy as she produced the letter from her pocket and took a deep breath. Even though he had already met the Minister on several occasions - she was still the MINISTER OF MAGIC and therefore a scary figure in Jake's book. Or, at least her position was.

"Ok, so we're going across the hall to the Minister - please try not to give her a hard time," he stated, feeling almost as if her were taking himself and two little schoolgirls to see the Headmaster.

ooc: Guys, post the two of your characters leaving and then come to the Undersecretary's thread.

Without any hesitation Gretta exited Jacob's office and strode towards the Minister's Office. She hadn't planned on actually speaking with the Minister but all the more this would be extremely exciting and something to keep her busy. "Thank you," she added kindly to Jakes gesture and kept quiet behind Lucille. "Eva," she muttered wondering who she was and why Jacob blurted it.

Lucy nodded discretly at Jake and exited the office as well, feeling awkwardly important. Eva should be there, not her. It wa sin times like these she'd like to summon thatgoddaughter of hers and make her assume her own responsabilities. Yet, at the same time, Lucy felt very protective towards the seventeen year old girl, and she would never let her get into that mess more than she already was.

A long while later...

Papers, parchments, pens, quills, LINES... Jake's eyes went cross-eyed for a second at he glanced at the pile he still had to go over, check and sign. Dropping his quill abruptly and almost screaming in frustration as ink sprayed onto his top, he leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes.

Things were difficult this time of year - he was used to that by now - but things were even HARDER because of the whole Rachel leaving and possibly almost never coming back to stay. His seventeen year old niece had expressed her interest to go studying right after Hogwarts, with only two weeks vacation. And in those two weeks, she'd have to pack up everything so there really won't be much time to do other things. . .

UGH! Blocking the thoughts from his head, Jake bent down and continued reading his current parchment, attempting to send signals for someone to come ask him for something. If he stayed here for much longer with no human company he's go insane.

"Come in!" Jake called, a broad smile coming to his face as he put down his quill and arched his back. FINALLY - a break. He felt bad about taking breaks during hectic times but he just couldn't say no to guests, right?

Yay.

Eying his desk with slight distaste, Jake gave up on trying to organize it before the thought had even come. These papers, quills and other junk would all need to be in the air soon - flying with owls to the people who demanded signatures from him (the formal sort; Jake didn't have fans).

Well, THAT wasn't a break. J.J was one of his best employees - the others tended to slack a lot while this guy was always working. Hmm - could this day GET any better?!

"I'm truly sad to hear that, J.J," Jake finally replied, standing up and holding out his hand to the man. "It really has been a pleasure working with you for all these years - and I hope you have lots of success in your sports," he added, knowing fully well that with J.J's build, he would succeed easily.

Still, it was nice to say his wishes out loud.

Raphael made his way slowly down the winding halls of the Ministry of Magic. He took a deep breath and savored the aromas for a moment. Here it smelled of parchment and ink, with a dash of perfume. He knew he must be getting close to the head of the Department of Education. He saw the door and was about to knock when he heard the conversation going on inside of the office. Raphael laughed softly and sat down in the seats located next to the doorway, eager to report for his first day at work...

" I have a great placement for you as long as you and Miss Taylor agree to the idea" Joe Jon Montcenaggio told Jake. ' He is my best friend, even though he is a bout three years younger" J.J. explained to Jake. " His name is Jason Potter Weaslet and he is a hard worker just like me" J.J. informed Jake.

He wasn't really sure if that could technically be done though - he'd still have to go through the Employment Office first and all that. "Well, I can't wait to meet him then - if he's anything like you, then I think we'll be fine," he said with a grin.

"But, er, you DO know that he'll have to apply first like everyone?" Jake added, voicing his earlier thoughts. It would be really bad if this Jason guy THOUGHT he had an automatic job, when in actual fact he didn't. Because Jake WOULD take J.J's recommendation into account, but he can't just accept him like that. It just wouldn't really be fair.

"I hope so - it's been great working with you J.J," Jake nodded, sensing that he had said something familiar about five seconds ago. EH, never mind. As long as the message got over, it was fine.

Sigh - back to work. "Listen, J.J, as much as I would love to chat with you for hours, I have to get back to my papers - they're calling me," he laughed and held out his hand for the man to shake. They were men - they didn't hug - so a handshake would do.

Jake watched as J.J walked out of his office; his excellent employee gone forever.

Where was Lucy when you needed her?

Stepping back to his table, Jake scratched his head thoughtfully as he realised he hadn't seen her for a while. Heck, he hadn't seen her for AGES. Not since their trip, really... Had she not had fun?

Hmm. Taking out a small piece of parchment from the lowest drawer in his desk (don't ask him how he knew it was there) Jake ran his finger over the list of his employees, trying to find the name of the new one coming in today.

Aha! There it was! Chloe Everhart. Cute name. Putting down the parchment, Jake took a sip from his coffee and went back to work, wondering if perhaps Miss Everhart would stop by. He REALLY could use some good news right now - and if he liked her, that in itself would be excellent news.

... WELL, it would be good news.

Briony walked down the hall belonging to the Department Head, Mr. Jake Rider. It had been a while, she thought to herself. It was already getting late into fall and Thalia was away at Hogwarts. She and Charlie hadn't met up in a while. She owed him a visit. They had been dating since what?...the beginning of summer. Around four months she supposed.

She reached the end of the hall where she saw the doors of Jake's office. She hadn't heard from Lucy in awhile and missed her a lot. She was in debt to owe everyone a 'hello' and that was her mission. She knocked on his door and waited for answer.

IT WAS A KNOCK.

Swiftly, Jake toned down his idiotic smile at being rescued from yet another dull day with his papers, he lowered most of the piles onto the floor so whoever it was could sit in the chair and actually be able to SEE him.

Which was always a good thing. You know; visibility. "Come in!" he called out, taking a sip from the now freezing cup of coffee, making a face as he felt the cold liquid run down his throat. Bleh - cold coffee was one of the WORST.

Briony heard an answer after a minute or so. Maybe less. She opened the door and walked in, closing the door behind her and standing there a second or two before saying, "Hello Mr. Rider. I haven't seen you in a while." She smiled a friendly smile. It hardly seemed to her that it was around October. "I thought I'd drop by," she added.

This week hadn't been so great. Thalia knew why. Some other relatives new why. But she was alright. Putting on the fake act was easy. The happy news to cover that was that Thalia actually had a boyfriend. She was looking forward to meeting Jude.

"Briony! Since when do you call me Mr. Rider?" Jake exclaimed, happy to see a friend walk through the door. Sure, it wasn't exactly THE woman he had been hoping to see, but it was close enough.

Plus, he liked Briony. She had a good heart. "Well - good thing, otherwise your boss would have been forced to admit himself into St. Mungo's," he commented dryly, indicating towards the piles and piles of parchments on the floor. It was sad really - how they ALWAYS seemed to grow really fast, but they NEVER went down and when the blue turned blue and they DID - there came the owl with more paperwork.

It was frustrating.
