Car Dealership (Plot for Improper Use of Magic/ Misuse of Muggle Artifacts)

In southwest Manchester, there lies a large car dealership. Cars are parked all over the pavement, advertisements everywhere and of course, an over eager dealer.

Much like any normal car dealership, the owner of this lot is out to make money. But unlike other dealerships, these cars have been bewitched to fly, as taxi service to the world cup.

Covington E. Penney is the man behind this, and something has got to be done about it

OOC: This thread is for Improper Use of Magic/ Misuse of Muggle Artifacts personnel only. We do have someone (Silver Tiger) playing Covington so please do not rp for him. Other than that, have fun. "Now let's go do some good!"

harrys_other_broom 10-09-2009 07:48 PM

Zoey walked into the car dealership and looked around. She sees some of the taxis and walks up to them and starts to look at them for any sort of obvious changes to it.

SilverTiger 10-10-2009 08:07 AM

Another day, hopefully more sales. Covington walked out of his office and onto the main sales floor, dressed in his usual Muggle attire of a button-down shirt and slacks, somehow looking both casual yet businesslike. He was always careful, on the odd chance a Muggle decided to visit him, even though he generally preferred wizard customers. They were just more his type of people. Besides, they could appreciate some of his more . . . illustrious special features included with his merchandise. And so far, he'd been doing fairly good business. Hadn't had to deal with anything yet, at least. No questions or anything. And he was fairly certain he could talk his way out of anything anyway.

Glancing around at the merchandise, a smile crept across his features as he saw a woman over near the ones he'd set aside specifically for his latest venture, and walked over to her. Running a hand through his already somewhat messy hair, he let the smile stay as he spoke. "Hey there. Can I interest you in anything? A new car, a simple ride anywhere you'd like to go . . ." He remained vague unti lhe could judge as to what type of customer she might actually be, considering the one thing he knew from this venture is that he always had to be careful with his sales pitch. Not everyone wanted to be hit head-on with all the bells and whistles first off. But either way, he usually made his sale.

Nicholas Flamel 10-10-2009 06:24 PM

With a small pop, Blackstone apparated into Manchester, two blocks from the dealership so as not to alert the man. Walking to the lot, he noticed Zoe was already speaking to Covington, and Covington was... trying to sell her a car?

Blackstone quickened his stride towards them, intending to cut to the matter, but stopped when he noticed a very nice BMW. He had always wondered what driving would be like for muggles.

harrys_other_broom 10-12-2009 11:28 PM

Zoey looked at the man who had just come down the stairs. She decided to see what she could get out of him. Time to put her feminine wilds to work. Zoey slowly stood up and looked at the man straight in the eyes. "I'm looking for a new car. Something light and fast, that will take me where I want to go quickly."Zoey said giving him a slight smile as she walked around the car gliding her hand over it. She bent down and looked into the the other side. She then stood up and flipped her hair out of her face. "See I'm going on a long trip coming up here soon. To a place where there is going to be a lot of people and I would love to miss the crowds. Do you think you can help me?" She said with a smile.

Nicholas Flamel 10-13-2009 01:03 AM

Blackstone finished looking at the car, and was about to approach Covington and Zoe when he stopped again. What was she doing? Blackstone stood back, leaning against a car. He watched the scene unfold, rather bemused. What was she trying to do?

SilverTiger 10-13-2009 09:45 AM

Covington glanced away from the woman he had spoken to as he heard a tell-tale pop, informing him someone had Apparated into his lot, and nodded slightly at the man who had been striding toward him. As the new customer got distracted by a BMW, he decided that today was going to be a good day. At least, it seemed more likely he'd make a sale or two.

He turned back as soon as he heard the woman speak, giving her a bright grin as she tried to use her wiles on him. It always entertained him when people did that. "Well, miss, you're definitely in the right place," he said, "I only sell the fastest vehicles. Everyone is always pleased with the merchandise, and the special features that I make available." And the bait was set, even though it didn't seem she wanted a simple taxi. Skipping that whole part was just the cherry on top. Running his hand through his hair, spiking it even more, as she examined the car in front of her, he continued speaking. "So where exactly are you headed? A lot of people is one thing, but different terrain would influence what type of car you should think about. You wouldn't want a convertible sports car if you were headed to the woods, for example."

harrys_other_broom 10-14-2009 05:55 AM

Zoey looked at the man. "Well, I was able to obtain tickets to the world cup. And you know all of those security measures the ministry to putting into effect and I really don't want to deal with that." Zoey said looking at the man."Something....that could get me around those perhaps?"

Nicholas Flamel 10-16-2009 06:57 AM

Blackstone stopped watching Zoe coax Covington, amusing though it was. He pulled out an extendable ear and put on some sunglasses. Oh, yes. Time for cool. Blackstone thought with a smile. He let the fleshy coloured string wriggle over to them so he could listen in at a distance. Blackstone stepped away. If he didn't think anyone was listening, Covington might talk.

SilverTiger 10-16-2009 07:33 AM

Covington raised an eyebrow momentarily at the woman's thinly veiled statement, immediately feeling like he needed to play this as carefully as possible, since her location on hi slot, combined with the direction the conversation was going, raised his suspicions slightly. But in the same respect, he wasn't going to back down. If he did everything right, nobody would be able to hit him with anything that would stick.

Momentarily ignoring the man who hadn't moved any closer, he nodded at the woman. "The World Cup, huh? I may be able to get you there, given the right price. But consider that quite a few of those security measures are probably there for a reason, and not all of them would affect your arrival." First step in covering his tracks: Make it seem like he was on the Ministry's side. But if he set her down a little way away from the site for the Cup, she could still avoid the measures that would affect him and his endeavour.

Nicholas Flamel 10-16-2009 07:46 AM

Blast Blackstone thought. There was one charge Covington was getting out of. He took another step away, pretending to look at a black Mercedes. It was quite remarkable, Blackstone thought to himself. He had actually been disappointed that this guy weaseled around a regulation. Did he want him to be convicted? If he deserved it, yes... but many philosophical questions popped into Blackstone's mind. He loved thinking about such things.

harrys_other_broom 10-29-2009 03:12 PM

"Oh price is not a matter." Zoey said to the man. "I am willing to pay whatever you deem your price. And if you are so worried about the security measures than what about getting around the crowds someway?"
Zoey looked around and saw Blackstone trying to play it cool and smiled. She then leaned forward to pretend to try to keep the conversation more private. "Do you think you have anything like that for me?"

SilverTiger 11-02-2009 11:02 AM

Covington grinned as the woman said price wasn't going to be a problem, the faint thought that someone was trying to get something on him still going through his head even as he shoved it back in the face of a possible sale. "That makes things so much easier," he commented, acting like he was looking over the cars in that area of the lot as he took another cursory glance at the man who was hovering a distance away. He still hadn't moved any closer, although it seemed like he was disappointed about something. Covington could just tell, and it made him a few levels more suspicious.

"I never said I was worried about the security measures," he pointed out as the woman continued speaking. "You did. And there are ways you could arrive that wouldn't trigger any of those measures. For example, you could always stop the car at a location within walking distance of the Cup location, and heading in on foot would most likely be safe." Because he wasn't about to not try and sell something from his stock. He just needed to make sure his suspicions weren't warranted in the process. And as she leaned forward, he smiled again. "I always find whatever you need in my stock. Just say the word," he said, matching her tone of voice.

Nicholas Flamel 11-03-2009 10:45 PM

Covington was obviously being very careful about what he said. Blackstone continued to nonchalantly peruse the cars. There had to be a way to pull this sting.

And it was a sting. Blackstone smiled to himself. It was a pretty cool prospect. Upon entering the ministry Blackstone didn't think he'd be doing this kind of stuff. And after only six months, too.

He shook himself back to the present. There had to be a way to actually get something on Covington. Standing around and listening to him talk wasn't doing much good.

He could try legilimency, but Blackstone wasn't too good at it. Plus, Covington was probably prepared for it. Veratiserum? Perhaps, but going through the paperwork back at the ministry would be quite a hassle. Ministry protocols always made this kind of thing hard.

Blackstone wondered if he could find anything in the office. He tentatively approached Covington and Zoe, thinking of a way he could get inside. "Excuse me, sir" he addressed Covington. "Do you have a loo I could borrow?"

harrys_other_broom 11-04-2009 06:18 AM

Zoey looked at Blackstone as he approached. She remained unmoved by his presence to make it seem as though she didn't know him. When he asked for the loo, Zoey sense that he wanted to look for something and he needed to time. Must stall time she said to herself.
"Yes walking would be fine but that really doesn't solve the problem of the traffic." Zoey said taking a pause to think. If she was going to get him to admit to something she may have to set stronger bait. "You know something fast, that could get me around the crowds."

SilverTiger 11-13-2009 01:16 AM

Covington wasn't stupid. He knew that this woman was trying to get him to say something about what he actually did, and he had his suspicions she knew the man who was still hovering nearby. Which were tipped off by her look at the man as he finally decided to do something. Putting a pleasant smile on his face, he turned as the man spoke. Can't reveal I don't trust them, he thought, before speaking. "No need to call me sir. Mr. Penney's fine, or even Covington. Being called sir makes me feel old," he said, a hint of a feigned laugh in his voice. Besides, maybe he still could manage to sell something. "The loo? Of course. Inside, second door on the left." As usual, he'd locked his office, so even if he'd had anything incriminating in there, it should be safe.

Turning back to the woman again after the man had walked off, he grinned genially. "There's going to be traffic no matter how you try to get there. It's the Quidditch world cup. Everyone wants to be there," he pointed out with a laugh. "What do you want to do, float over everyone's heads? Not gonna happen," he continued, still with the joking tone in his voice. In fact, he actually could fly her in, but even he couldn't land in the stadium or anything. And then she'd continued speaking, and his grin came back. "Sweetheart, anything you get from me is going to be fast. It's what I'm known for."

harrys_other_broom 11-13-2009 04:19 PM

"Hey floating is perfectly fine with me." Zoey said to the man.

Nicholas Flamel 12-14-2009 08:20 AM

Blackstone walked inside from the heat of the lot. He took a drink from the water cooler and headed to the restroom. Of course he had no intention of using it, but he wanted Covington to see him follow up on his request. Covington already seemed suspicious of them.

Blackstone began searching the dealership. He had no idea where to look when he came to a locked door. Obviously this was where he needed to go. "Alohomora" he muttered, but nothing happened. So Covington was guarding against muggle and wizard. A small pop sounded and Blackstone apparated inside. Being a juggle place of business he guessed it wasn't protected for apparation.

Covington might had heard the pop, so Blackstone whispered 'spceialis revelio' and set to wrk. Some of the documents in the ffice glowed frm the spell, magical protections no doubt. After a couple minutes Blackstone had sufficient evidence: names, gringotts account- money coming from "car sales" that never took place, fake muggle liscenses. Even a foreign letter asking about the world cup. Blackstone stuffed them in his bag and headed out.

SilverTiger 12-14-2009 08:35 AM

Keeping one eye on the entrance leading inside the building from the lot, Covington thanked whatever Muggle it was who decided car dealerships should have buildings with largely glass walls. Because it meant he could continue watching the man as he went to the water cooler and then headed toward the loo. He was fairly certain his distrust wasn't simply paranoia. Something about these two made him think of people who were fishing for something. And he wasn't one to bite.

As he heard the woman speak again, he turned his attentions back to her fully. No need to make anyone suspicious. "I think you're at the wrong place if you simply want to float there. And I'd think it would be hard to avoid detection from Muggles if you did. Now, I could definitely help with that," he said with another grin. He wouldn't still be in business if he let his merchandise be seen in action. And what he could provide was better than floating. Better than most Wizarding transportation, as far as he was concerned. Made a better entrance, at least. Turning again to glance at the windows as he thought he heard a faint pop, he narrowed his eyes slightly as he could tell the man was out of his sight line. He could be still in the loo, but that didn't sound like something innocent, he thought, choosing not to say anything until he could figure out what was what.

Nicholas Flamel 12-14-2009 09:15 AM

Hoping that Zoe was still keeping him distracted, Blackstone glanced around the office before exiting. He locked the door and before he returned, decided to place a couple jinxed on the lot in case Covington tried to run.

He strode back out onto the lot, walking from behind Covingtn, who was still talkingnwith Zoe. Blackstone cleared his throat. "So... Covington E. Penney makes a lot of money in car sales.. But doesn't, according to records, sell as many cards. I wonder, now, how that happens." he announced. If Covington didn't know what was going on, he would figure it out now

SilverTiger 12-14-2009 10:11 AM

Having given up on his watching of the glass between him and the inside of the building, Covington had turned back to the woman, keeping an ear out for the door opening. Which would hopefully tell him the man was back from his "trip to the loo." Since he was pretty certain that wasn't what had happened, even though he had no real proof. But, a few seconds after hearing the door open again, he heard footsteps, a throat being cleared, and then a voice. Smoothly turning around, he put his most innocent grin on his face and shrugged. "No idea. Sheer luck?," he tried to stall. Jig's up. Obviously my office wasn't as safe as I thought, he thought to himself, Now to come up with a cover. "I'd be curious as to why you seem interested in my sales records, though. There's nothing wrong with charging people a small price to try out my merchandise. What if it gets damaged? If I didn't charge, I'd have no way of repairing said merchandise. I have to keep up appearances for the Muggles in the area." As if that was what was actually going on. But maybe if he kept on that track, he could distract this man and still get away. Because there was no way he was confessing. He didn't last this long by folding under pressure, after all.

Nicholas Flamel 12-14-2009 06:49 PM

"In that case, you must have a lot of 'sheer luck'" Blackstone replied. "And you must charge an awful lot for trying out the merchandise. Or are there galleons going elsewhere?" he continued, starting to pace. Blackstone put his sunglasses back on. This was cool. A year ago he never would have guessed he'd be in law enforcement.

"And... Why are we speaking of keeping up appearances for muggles? Could there be another customer? A wizard buying an ordinary muggle car?"

"You seemed to have covered the galleon-trail rather well, but not enough, Covington. Which also explains why we are discussing galleons and not muggle pounds." he added.

"So, Covington. What are you going to do about it?"

As long as he had evidence, Blackstone thought he may as well try to have fun and play the 'cool detective'. Whether or not he actually was cool was a much different question.

SilverTiger 12-15-2009 02:27 AM

Covington almost wanted to laugh as the man started to pace while he spoke, acting like he was so cool. If he thought he was going to scare him into saying anything, this guy was going to be disappointed. Only half listening to everything that was being said, he shrugged again. "I'm not a Muggle, obvoiusly. And I'm here. And I don't think I'm mistaken in thinking neither you or the good lady over here aren't Muggles either. So it seems to me like that argument has a bit of a flaw, right there," he pointed out. And this galleon-trail you speak of would have been well covered, if someone hadn't done a little breaking and entering, he added silently.

"And, regarding my charge for trying out the merchandise. Since obviously we've established I don't have only Muggle clientele, I believe it's understandable I might charge people more. Many wizards don't really know how to drive a car, so they would be more likely to damage it, right? So they should be charged more to test-drive one." And if he believed that, there was some land in Romania he needed to sell next. "I see no reason to do anything about whatever you're talking about. I've explained it, and that should be it." Let Mr. B-and-E continue trying to be all cool and scary. It wasn't bothering him, or convincing him.

Nicholas Flamel 12-15-2009 02:49 AM

Well well. Mr. 'has a response for everything' strikes again. So much for all of those years in the debate league. Blackstone was not appearing very cool. And this was not going very easily. "Repello Muggletum" he muttered, swishing his wand over the dealership.

"How many of your own facts do I have to read to you, Penney?" he asked. Blackstone stopped pacing and took off his sunglasses, looking straight at him. "Records are there, we've been pursuing this case for months. Now we have your records. You've been selling taxi service with these cars, offering to take people to the cup.- SpeRevelio!" he added, his wand passing over the empty lot.

"Those cars are bewitched, without conforming to any ministry regulation. Nothing registered with the QWC administrators, not with the department of transportation..."

Blackstone paused, having been a little aggravated. Particularly at the fact that this person was cooler than he was- and he didn't have the sunglasses!

Covington knew he was wrong. Blackstone knew he was wrong. Blackstone knew Covington knew he was wrong. But Blackstone knew Covington knew Blackstone knew he wouldn't say he was.

Blackstone blinked, perplexed. He took a deep breath and continued. "Look. You aren't fooling anyone here. The harder you make this for us, the worse it's going to be for you" he said, pulling out a wand and his ministry badge.

SilverTiger 12-16-2009 12:02 AM

It meant something that Covington wasn't exactly bothered when Mr. "I think I'm cool because I have sunglasses" cast the spell to repel Muggles from his lot. It wasn't like he had expected any to show up right now anyway, and it was more entertaining waiting to see when sunglesses-boy would get to his point. (It also didn't bother him to think of the guy that way, even with the possibility he was younger than his adversary. It was the intent behind the thought that mattered, and it wasn't like he was going to actually call him that to his face. Arguing was making much more aof a point.) Crossing his arms as the man spoke again, a faint smirk on his face as he wondered if he was supposed to be nervous that the sunglasses had come off, he let silence answer the question.

"If you only just got these "records" you speak of now, through what I would like to point out was quite possibly a bit of an illegal action of your own, what exactly were you basing your case on before? Rumors?," he asked, once it seemed the talk was over, for the moment at least. Leaning over to look critically at the badge that was brandished at him, he spoke again. "So Mr. Martimus . . . Or how about I call you Blackstone?" No way he was scared, no matter what, and that went to show this guy. He wasn't backing down even under torture, and he was fairly certain Ministry boy wouldn't resort to that. "I wasn't aware the Ministry had so little to do that they had to resort to pursuing cases where they didn't have any facts. Pity." It didn't matter if half his stock was currently glowing. One whispered word from himself, and any evidence they thought they had on that tack would disappear, leaving innocent Muggle vehicles. And he knew Blackstone knew that, which was why he was blustering through whatever it was he was trying to say. "It seems we're at an impasse, Blackstone, so I'd suggest you get to it and actually charge me with something, or if you're not, just go on your merry way and bother someone else." Now was the test.

Nicholas Flamel 12-16-2009 05:00 AM

Blackstone was rather irritated. "I am not inclined to explain myself to a person who rises and sleeps under the blanket of protection that I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would prefer it if you said 'thank you' and went on your way. My method's and the ministry's evidence has nothing to do with what you have to answer to."

Admittedly, Blackstone liked muggle movies. He wondered if Penney would get the reference.

"If you are so confidant that you are in the right, you shouldn't have a problem coming along to the wizengamot. Like I said, we have been following you for a while. You have unlawfully tampered with muggle devices, broken the transportation department's magical automobile regulations, the list goes on. The question isn't whether or not you should be investigated, nor whether my means are questionable- It's whether or not I'm going to have to summon the Magical Law Enforcement Squad."

He would've, perhaps, had somewhat of a decent closing for a speech. But Blackstone, despite his efforts, rarely came off smoothly or cool.

"Um... and FYI" he added "What I did was legal. We had reason to believe you were storing such records of importance, I got permission from my boss." he added.

ZDARDSKY 12-21-2009 11:08 PM

The sultry blonde found herself in front of a muggle car dealership, and her nose immediately flared. Muggles. Gross, disgusting, vermin. She hated interacting with this inferior world. Spotting Martimus speaking with the alleged Covington, her lip curled into a grin and she made her way over to the two.

"What exactly is the problem, boys?" Estella said soothingly, in an uncanny sort of way.

harrys_other_broom 12-23-2009 03:09 AM

"There really isn't a problem here." Zoey said. "We were just having a discussion with Covington about his cars, which I must say you told me your cars were the fastest around, implying with the fact that we both know we are both wizards, that there are possible modifications in the cars to make them go faster." Zoey finished and looked at Estella and then turned her attention back to Covington and Blackstone.

ZDARDSKY 12-23-2009 03:59 AM

Right as Zoey began running her foolish mouth, a genius idea came to Estella's mind. When didn't they? She chuckled to herself bemusedly. She'd play dumb, pretend to be a muggle (gross), and gain the trust of this man by different means.

"Did you really just call yourself a wizard? You are one of those people..." She smiled wryly and gave Covington a smirk. "Should I call the police? This lady seems to have," She cupped her hand over her mouth and giggled, "lost her mind."

Looking to Cambridge in a 'I'm the smartest witch of all' kind of way, she turned back to Covington. "You see, I was wanting to buy a new car. You see that Benz over there. Well, I just have to own one." Tucking a bit of blonde hair behind her ear, she looked to Covington. Oh she had this man right where she wanted him. Estella was clever, oh yes she was.

SilverTiger 12-31-2009 08:26 AM

Covington raised an eyebrow as Blackstone continued blustering his way through whatever exactly it was he was trying to say, not really even paying attention once he realized there still wasn't any actual charges being laid in the tirade. "I actually think your methods and the Ministry's evidence have everything to do with what I may have to answer to. That is, if you ever get to your point, Blackstone," he drawled after the not-so-cool finish to the speech. "And I'm fairly sure you're not getting anywhere with that attitude." Atr this point he was just having fun playing with the man, especially since it seemed so easy to break his focus. And it really was fascinating to note how much he felt the need to prove the Ministry was behind his every move. Which actually made him think more that they didn't know he'd broken into a private office.

And then he heard another voice speak up, and glanced over to see yet another blonde girl strolling up, and a smooth grin crept onto his face. "No problem, as this nice lady has said, although I'd like to point out that I never said there may not have been modifications to make my cars faster. I imagine whatever Blackstone thinks he has against me has nothing to do with my vehicles' speed," he said, turning back to the other girl as he finished speaking. As he wondered just how many people were going to end up on his little lot, before anything actually happened. "Blackstone, my man, what exactly is with you and working with attractive blondes? If I was a betting man, I'd say you have a type," he said teasingly, before turning back to the newcomer. "Excuse the mess, really. And I'll be sure to mark that shiny Benz down for you once it appears I'm allowed back in business. Once he gets to his point," he said, lowering his voice conspiratorially at the last statement, before standing back up and facing the three of them. "So, my good people. If I'm not actually going to be charged with anything, I'd like to be allowed back to my business. I don't hurt you, you don't hurt me. Sounds like a good deal, right?" They still didn't really have anything on him anyway.

ZDARDSKY 12-31-2009 10:10 AM

Estella was going to run this muggle card as long as it would survive, and if everything fell into place, it might just work. Turning on her womanly charm, her steely blue eyes eyed Covington seductively.

Hurt him? Oh no, he had to understand that she was a MUGGLE. Under cover of course. He had to understand that.

Putting on her best pouty, completely innocent baby face, the blonde walked up to Covington and grabbed his arm innocently. "I would never hurt you." She said, biting her lower lip. "I just want to make a purchase. Where can we talk business?" Last word came out in almost a hiss.

Ok.... Blackstone thought to himself. Obviously Covington was either convinced he was right, or a very good liar.

"Uh... Not exactly." Blackstone muttered. "They get assigned to me from level 8." he said. He did have a lot of blondes in his department, though. "Um... yeah. Anyway" he continued, trying to regain focus and control

"I've gotten to the point several times." Blackstone said through gritted teeth. "You are modifying your cars, breaking several laws and actively aggravating the crimes. And aggravating me." he said. "Now we have a couple options. First of all, you can be ready for a Wizengamot summons. If you are innocent, you have nothing to worry about. If you would like to come clean now, I can assure you you're circumstances won't be nearly as dire. You've covered your operation very smartly, but the fact is the longer you delay, the worse your predicament is going to be. No more hints or suggestions- The fact is you are under investigation. You can comply and get this over with, or not and... Stuff will happen. You aren't fooling anyone. Except the muggles, that is. So stop acting like you have no idea why I'm here. The only thing in question is whether or not we'll have to drag you to a summons.

Blackstone bit his tongue, trying to keep himself from making another statement that would lose credibility.

SilverTiger 01-27-2010 10:46 PM

yay :P

Still paying his attention to the new blonde, Covington smiled placatingly at her as she continued her charade, letting one hand rest on hers on his arm as he spoke. "I never inferred you specifically were going to hurt me, sweetheart. It's just a phrase. And I've already explained, at the moment I'm not being allowed to get to business, but I'll make a note that you would like the Benz as soon as I can. I wouldn't want a pretty girl like you to not get what you want." And then his smile changed a little, "And by the way, you can drop the charade. While I'd love for either one of you to be here innocently, and be able to get to know you better, I'm not stupid. More's the pity." It really was, since he had always appreciated beautiful women

Turning back to Blackstone as it seemed his comment had made a mark, he shook his head slowly as the man blustered through yet another minor tirade. "Blackstone, Blackstone, Blackstone," he said, making a little clicking sound with his tongue to show his (feigned) displeasure. "Explaining what you feel you have against me is not charging me with anything. And, contrary to your opinion, I haven't been the one delaying anything. You have, with your continued need to prove you're better than me." Which he obviously wasn't. "I have repeatedly asked you to charge me if you were going to, which, by the way, would also mean I'm not fighting you bringing me in. It's not going to change the fact that you're not getting me to admit anything, but I've been perfectly compliant." Surreptitiously using his wand below notice, the glowing cars faded and he added another quick spell to wipe the ledgers he knew Blackstone had of any incriminating evidence. It wasn't going to affect his business any, and it would add to the consternation of the Ministry people. Which would be highly entertaining. Giving Blackstone a perfectly bland expression, he raised an eyebrow again as he continued. "So are we going anywhere, or is there going to be some more entertainment of watching you dig a hole for yourself?"

Blackstone rolled his eyes and flicked his wand, sending a static shock to Covington's fingertips. "Please, don't flirt with my team. You are hardly in a position to do so. Just like" he continued "You are hardly in a position to ignore my repeated statements. You can 'come along quietly' if you will. You would answer some questions and likely take minor punishment, if found guilty. Or you can continue this useless charade. It's no secret what's going on. And the question is not what I can prove here. I'm obviously not getting any admission out of you right now, and why would you? But that isn't the issue. Your statements here will likely mean nothing in court."

Blackstone turned his back to Covington and began to walk off. "I suppose that's that, then. Expect a summons. Perhaps even a warrant, if you don't wish to come along. In court you may continue your stubbornness and attempt at deception, except in court it's called perjury, and its a crime."

Covington sent a bland look at Blackstone as it seemed his return of the flirting occuring with the blonde hit a nerve. "Blackstone, calm down. No need to take your frustration out on some innocent conversation," he said, feigning a friendly tone. "You are mistaken, though. I'm always in a position to respect a beautiful woman. Besides, it takes two." Since he hadn't ven really started the flirting. Although it had been highly entertaining to let the girls think it would work to get him to confess. And then Mr. Cranky Ministry man was back to his insistence that he was being uncooperative, and he resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Broken record here.

"I'm not ignoring them. You're simply not understanding mine," he pointed out, a faint smirk flickering on his face as he wondered what Blackstone's higher-ups would think if they saw him now. "I never said I wouldn't come with you. If you stopped having your little inferiority issue for two seconds. Although you are right with one thing. I'm not going to admit anything when I don't feel the need to." And he certainly didn't feel the need to tell this guy anything. Not when he was acting like a petty schoolboy. It was fun setting him off though. And then the man even went so far as to walk away. Even better.

"I'm waiting with bated breath for that summons. Honest," he called out to the departing figure, with only a hint of sarcasm as he leaned against the wall of the dealership's offices again nonchalantly. He did think there would be a summons, but then, he'd already destroyed the evidence underneath Ministry boy's nose. So he wasn't worried. "And thank you for that compliment. Really, it's amazing you feel comfortable enough with me to call me stubborn. I commend you, especially since you added that little bit of a lesson in there. I'll take that into consideration." Maybe. He was well aware of exactly how far he could go before getting caught, and if Blackstone didn't know that, he hadn't done his research.

It wasn't too long before Blackstone had returned, cooled off and warrant for interrogation in hand.

"Here we are, then" he said, walking up to Covington. "Sorry about all that fuss earlier, eh?". Blackstone unrolled the parchment in his hand. "If you'd like to read it, this is a warrant for use of veratiserum in interrogation. And here" he produced another scroll "Are your rights. We aren't going to ask you to do anything dangerous, it's pretty routine. If you're innocent, no harm done."

"Now, it's protocol that we ask you to come along with us back to the ministry. That way we have supervision, everything is official and safer for you. You can be sure that you won't be mistreated and we'll both be satisfied that way. What do you say, then?"

Covington had gone into the dealership to take stock of what all had been done to his office when Blackstone had broken in. Not that he figured there had been too much damage. he knew what they had taken, and he'd taken care of that anyway. Doing a quick spell on his wand to cleanse it, he shut his office door again then headed back outside. Leaning nonchalantly against the outside wall of the building again as he waited for anyone to show up, considering as far as he knew the lot wasn't closed anymore, he grinned as no less than Blackstone had shown up again. Time for more fun.

"Blackstone, buddy," he called out, only slightly sarcastically, "did you miss me that much?" Spreading his arms out as if he was going to hug the other man, he grinned. But then he rolled his eyes as Mr. Grumpy went straight to business. "Aww, no small talk? I'm hurt." He shrugged as a paper was unfurled in front of him. "Why would I worry about you asking me to do anything dangerous? Do I look like someone who worries?," he asked nonchalantly. Blackstone wasn't playing, and it was irritating him a little. He was more fun before. Laaughing as protocol and all that other blather was mentioned, he tossed another devil-may-care smile at the man. "I've never said I'd fight going along with you to the Ministry. That's just all in your head. Lead on, oh fearless leader." He still knew they had nothing on hinm, thanks to his precautions the last time they'd been on the lot. And he wasn't about to cave on the rest.

Blackstone didn't bother responding to Covington's sarcastic remarks this time.

"No more small talk, indeed. I find it gets rather old after a while, don't you?" he asked. Calmly, as if he were asking a friend's opinion.

But wait....

Blackstone had just disproved his point. Small talk about small talk was worse then just small talk itself.

Blackstone shook the conundrum from his head and continued. "So, if you would permit some side along apparition, we'll be off. I'll have to warn you, if you try to apparate to a separate place while we're doing this, you'll risk splinching one or both of us. But surely you're sensible enough not to try that, right?" he said, extending his arm. "Ready?"

SilverTiger 02-10-2010 10:29 AM

A knowing and slightly amused look flickered in Covington's eyes as Blackstone talked himself into confusion, simply by attempting not to fall into his trap and managing to do so quite easily. "Oh, but most people find that small talk reveals things about whoever they are conversing with. and information is always a good thing, don't you agree?," he said with feigned agreement. "Although, you didn't bring any of your lovely employees to visit this time? Pity." It was much more fun vanishing evidence under all their noses, as opposed to simply Blackstone the cranky Ministry man. But he could deal. Pretty much everything they thought they had was gone anyway.

A faint smirk appeared on his face as Mr. Cranky Pants got down to business. all that protocol mumbo-jumbo. "Awww, so no trips to Bora Bora instead? You look like you could use some relaxation in the tropics," he said factetiously, before shrugging a little. "But then, once again, we are sans your lovely employees, so I guess we may as well stick to business. If I must," he said with a theatrical sigh before reaching over for Blackstone's arm. "Let's get this over with, shall we? Even though I know you'll miss me later," he said then, unable to keep himself from one more little jab at the other man's confidence.

Blackstone ignored Covington's sarcasm and turned on the spot. There was a loud 'crack' and the two disappeared.
