Atticus's Attic First & Secondhand Music ShopExplore the music, both magic and mundane, and maybe create some of your own. Who knows what new sounds you might find?
The most important area of the shop is also the largest and usually most jam-packed. Wide metal tables take up the majority of the shop, each one laden with albums both old and new in various forms. There are so many tables that they are very carefully set up to just barely allow enough space for customers to walk past each other in the makeshift aisles. The tables, while regularly fixed to the floor, have the added benefit of being able to be banished to the back room by the shopkeeper to open up the floor space for shows and events. Unfortunately, this means that with each visit, you may find yourself searching for the table you wish to find, as it could turn up in a different area each day.
All types of recording media can be found on these tables - some are full of records, their jackets carefully arranged to be flipped through without damaging the vinyl within. Others are stacked with cassette tapes, the spines of their plastic casings turned upward to display the names of bands and albums. More still bear old compact discs in their jewel cases, in mint condition unless labeled otherwise. While not as plentiful, 8-track tapes and shellac records can also be found as well; the appropriate devices to play all of these things, paired with large over-ear headphones, can also be found at each table.
While a great many of the tables are dedicated to well-known Muggle recording formats, a fair amount of them are also dedicated to "item albums" as well. Small boxes bearing a band and album name litter these tables, stacked together haphazardly; inside are items the size of a knut, varying in colour and shape dependent on the box's label. A single tap with a wand will cause the album to begin to play aloud; should one choose to, the album can also be stuck behind the ear to be played privately, so as to not disturb others.
Feel free to browse and sample music from bands both new & old, Muggle & Wizard. Just remember - you break it, you bought it, and some of the items could turn out to be fairly pricey.
Mo loved the smell of dusty old vinyl and desperation! Like... he felt that some people made their way into shops like this in hopes of spotting a celebrity or some such. Hilar.
The former Ravenclaw pulled a hand through his hair as he ducked into the record store to escape the chill. GAWD. He missed Santorini. So much. But life had a way of kicking him in the... teeth sometimes. Could be worse, though. He could be in this country permanently, yeah.
Swearing softly in Greek, the man blew on his hands to try and regain feeling, and cast a glance about.

Jory was not very much into music but that didn't mean he missed listening to certain bands and singers from the Muggle world. Coupled with the fact there was a new music store opened, he did not want to miss the opportunity to check it out. Deciding that he would also surprise his wife with some romantic music, he stepped into the shop.
The Auror didn't know where to begin. The shop was so full of musical things! He began browsing but upon hearing the soft mutterings of foreign language by the man close to him, Jory looked up. "Something the matter?'' he asked curiously. By the tone of the man's voice, he suspected something was up.
After having seen to it that Ringo was okay to talk Lilah and sort her out (and by that, he meant ditching them as soon as they'd reached the Leaky by Floo powder), Corbin paused only to fix his hair - the ash from fireplaces was not a good look - before heading directly for Atticus'. If there was a better shop in the Alley, then Corbin had yet to find it.
He also liked the fact that everything seemed to be in a different place each time: it meant he was always finding gems. Thumbing through a stack of Muggle Rock, he wondered what new favourite he would come across today.
How did he get famous?

Being almost 15 was a blessing in disguise for this Ravenclaw. He had been able to shed his younger sister with the reason that he needed to speak to some shopkeepers for a school project, and his mother had already given up on her hating him to let him do it. So..Brinlee-free and mother-free, Rooney Bronwyn was finally able to stretch his fingers through the selection of music here and even listen to a little bit in an attempt to destress after the gut-kicking three months he'd have.
Plus, he needed some new inspiration for any spontaneous pieces he would have to perform at WADA this summer, something he was ridiculously excited for and couldn't bear to still be weeks away from.
He just had to make up properly with Liv first. Be best friends again.
And then keep Minnie on his side, or just call things quits with her.
Colt was doing his thing wandering around Diagon Alley hoping to find some new stores. As he wandered he came across a jewel piece. He saw a music shop. His eyes went big and he was grinning like a kid in a candy shop. Now this was awesome. He walked right in without no hesitation. He opened the doors and smelled the vintage vinyls. The best smell in the world. This brought the slytherin back memories of being in New York city and going to old record shops.
He began to make his way through the aisles. He was skimming the records to see what artists this place had. Hopefully they had good ones.

Just getting to go wander around Diagon Alley by herself had made Elle feel like she was free. She might have been instructed to let Avalon know when she was ready to come home, but neither of her sisters had felt the need to accompany her. Aside from a list in her bag from Ash regarding things she wanted, the sixteen-year-old could do whatever she liked. She had been tempted to let her friends know she was going to be there, but instead she’d walked over without doing so. In some ways she had forgotten, but in others she was curious to find out what could happen if her dorm mates weren’t around.
Except they hadn’t been completely out of her thoughts, as she had found herself investigating the music shop that had recently appeared in the Alley. She didn’t play herself, but she knew both Kelly and Nat did. Plus, Ash liked to think she was a musician, which gave Elle the idea that maybe she could find a gift or two. Therefore, she set out to simply wander the aisles, looking at everything and nothing while waiting to see if anything would jump out at her and give her an idea. Except instead, she found herself accidentally bumping into a boy perusing the records. “Oh, I’m sorry,” she said softly, stepping backward and finding herself running into the display. Thankfully nothing fell.

As the slytherin was busy finding some decent albums to listen to, he felt a light bump on his side. He looked to his right and saw a cute girl bumped into him. He used his flirtatious smile and waved off her apology. "Oh it's fine. I'm usually distracted by this store to even pay attention to where I'm walking." He looked her up and down and wondered if he had seen her around. He didn't want to ask because then that sounded stalkerish. "What kind of music are you looking for?" He was curious what music people listen to.

Still half turned to make sure she hadn’t knocked the display over, Elle had been a bit thrown off by the boy brushing off her apology. Especially as she turned back to look at him gain and realized he was sort of familiar. Maybe a house mate or something, but as she tried to come up with the answer it became clear she was woefully unaware of most of the other students at Hogwarts. It could be fixed now, though. Maybe. “You weren’t walking?,” she pointed out, her voice still a bit unsure. Especially as she’d felt him looking her up and down. She’d glanced down, only to see her hedgehog poke his nose out of her bag just the tiniest bit. It calmed her down, anyway.
“Honestly? I don’t know. I wasn’t really looking for anything in particular. Just a few gifts, maybe,” she replied. She pretty much listened to all music. She had never really thought about specific types of music that she liked. Plus, she doubted that Kelly and Nat’s band had any records here yet.

Colt nodded and shrugged in agreement. "True I wasn't walking, I was just buy admiring all these albums." he said still scrolling through them. Man they had everything he liked. He was surprised they had muggle vinyls here too. As he took in her details, he saw a little hedgehog poke its head out. That didn't go unnoticed. He smiled and pointed towards it, "Nice hedgehog ya got there. What its name?" It cute sort of thing. A few gifts? He offered his assistance. "Well I could offer my assistance. I mean you just have to know what kind of music they like.." he said scanning the bin. He held up one vinyl. "Does he/she like pop/punk?"

Part of Elle had honestly expected him to disagree with her, just out of a matter of fact. It would have been the Slytherin thing to do, not accepting that you were wrong. Of course, she hadn’t been saying he was wrong in the first place, but she knew by now that there were people who might have thought she was. Obviously he wasn’t one of them, and she filed that away for later. First she had to remember exactly why he seemed familiar. She had nodded in response to his comment, anyway. “There certainly are an awful lot of albums here,” she agreed, glancing over at the displays n ow that she was sure she wasn’t about to accidentally knock anything over.
She hadnt thought that Marvin was that noticeable, but then he had been paying a lot of attention to her appearance in general. “Oh, his name is Marvin. Like from A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy?,” she replied, tempted to reach inside her bag and take the hedgehog out. The only thing stopping her was the fact she didn’t know what the shopkeepers might think of an animal in the shop. Her hedgehog was hardly as depressed as the character from the book, though.
“Um, well, it’s sort of more than one person? My sister likes a lot of music, more of the popular stuff than anything else though, and then the others you probably know. Kelly and Nat? They have their own band?” She was almost certain he was a Slytherin like she was, so he ought to know her dorm mates. At least he ought to know about the band.

Colt nodded and was still skimming through them. He didn't understand the reference at all and shrugged. "Never heard of it." He wasn't really much a reader per say. More than one person, well he didn't expect that. "More popular stuff eh? Like what like billboard top 100's or something?" He knew that reference from his aunt liking all the top chart stuff. Kelly and Nat? Those names sounded familiar and he recalled hearing them in his own house. "Oh yeah yeah I heard about that. I haven't had the chance to listen to their music though.." He wasn't much of a social butterfly and made his mission to get to know ALL his dorm mates.
Now that he was connecting the dots, he questioned, "So wait you are a Slytherin too? How come I haven't seen ya around?"
At least she wasn’t feeling quite as much like she was being sized up for something. That had definitely not been her plan when she’d chosen to come to Diagon Alley, or when she’d decided to investigate the music shop. His admittance to not understanding her reference hadn’t bothered her either. That was the usual response, really. “That’s okay. Not many people here have,” she replied with a slight nod. Odds were he knew things that she wasn’t aware of either. That was another things she was used to, feeling sheltered.
She had blinked when he had spoken again. “Huh? No, like Wizarding rock and that sort of thing. What’s billboard top 100’s?,” she asked, completely confused and feeling awkward. Yet again. At least she hadn’t backed into the display a second time. Plus, he in fact did seem to recognize the names of her dorm mates. “You didn’t go to the show they had in the Rom of Requirement last term?,” she asked softly. She’d felt like everyone had been there. “They play a lot of covers still, but they’re working on original songs now too.” Spending months in the same room as them did provide her with a sort of inside information in the end. And he also seemed to realize what she hadn’t said.
“I don’t really get out much,” she replied, feeling a blush creeping up onto her face.

"Is it like a muggle thing?" he asked about her reference. Maybe that is why people don't get it too much or maybe he had to get out more. Probably that. Wizard Rock? He never really dived into that genre yet. He was more into the muggle music listening when he got home. "Never really got into the Wizard Rock aspect. I am more a stickler for my genre back at home." He mostly liked hip/hop-rap, classic rock and sometimes pop. Only sometimes because his sister kept blasting that crap in her room. Ya know some of it is catchy. She didn't know what billboard top 100's is? He forgot some people came here from just the wizarding world. He would explain. "Well it is kind of like a top list of the songs being played in a certain year. There could be popular pop or rock songs that constantly keep playing.." He hoped was making some sense. He wasn't much for explaining too much.
So this band she was talking about had a show in the Room of Requirement? He didn't not get the memo. "Nahh I didn't. I think I saw it on the bulletin board in the common room but never got around to it. I think my friends were doing something else that night." By something else he meant doing graffiti in the courtyard. "What kind of covers do they do?" he was curious now. Maybe they did cover of muggle songs. "Trust me I don't get out that much either. We got that in common.." he muttered and still scanned for the right CD to buy.

”The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy?,” Elle asked, a bit confused by the question about something being a Muggle thing. “It’s a book. Well, the first in a series, sort of, but I guess it’s a Muggle thing.” She’d never seen it as that, but she could see why some people did. If it was, it might be the only Muggle thing she really knew about. Just as she found herself surprised that he hadn’t seemed to know about Wizarding rock. She thought everyone in the Wizarding world knew about that. “Your genre back home?,” she continued, curious once again. It seemed like the conversation only made her more curious the longer it continued, really. Especially as he had tried to explain what that top 100’s thing he’d mentioned was. “Oh. Okay.” Maybe they ought to have that for Wizarding music too. She didn’t think they had that, but she wasn’t sure.
His answer to her question about the Sirens concert was interesting, too. “You think they were doing something else?,” she asked, curious once again. If he’d seen the notice, and he at least knew of the girls in the band, she couldn’t see why he wouldn’t have gone. Obviously he appreciated girls, if she’d read his earlier scan of her own appearance correctly. She’d shrugged as he asked about their music, though. “I’m not sure. There’s some Wizarding stuff. The Dead Kneazles, anyway.” There had been that big thing when the actual band members had shown up at the show after all. But she supposed some of the songs might have been Muggle songs as well. She didn’t know for sure. “Do we?” That seemed surprising.

"Well if it is a muggle thing, I was never much of an explorer when it came to reading. I only read comics and video games.." He knew it wasn't that impressive but it was true. "Yeah my music genre back home when I was in New York City was mostly hip/hop-rap and pop. I guess there could be others but that is what I heard the most." He was curious and asked, "Have you heard about those genres before?" If not he could explain it better. He smirked and she was a smart one to pick up on that. "Well you caught me. I didn't really care to check it out." Now THAT should have been obvious. The Dead Kneazles did sound familiar though. "You know Dead Kneazles do sound familiar...I might have heard one of their songs around the castle.." he said slightly recalling.
She seemed shock they both had something in common. "Yeah we do. I mean I don't really see it as a bad thing." he shrugged. He found his album he had been looking for. "Aww sweet they have Blink 182 here.." he grinned with joy. "Do the people your finding gifts for like this band?" he pointed to the vinyl.

A brief nod was given to the kid who joined him at the music table, but Corbin still flicked carefully though the records. For a boy who had absolutely worry about damaging anything in the world (including hurting peoples feelings), the way he was when it came to music was always a shocker.
Music was the most precious form of art, though.
Noticing an old Catfish single, the thirteen year old began to hum it slightly, before stopping, and looking up at the other boy. "What was that?"
He'd said something.
Maybe Corb had misheard.

He was curious and asked, "Have you heard about those genres before?" If not he could explain it better.
His confession, at first, didn’t surprise Elle one bit, if just because she figured that a lot of Slytherins might see reading, especially Muggle literature, as useless. As a Ravenclaw thing, even. Except she did find one part of it curious. “You read video games?,” she asked, completely mystified as to how that might be possible. She was a fan of futuristic genres, sort of, yet she didn’t think it was possible to read a game. “Others that you listened to, or just other genres in general?,” she continued, back to the topic of music. Which was much more normal given their location. “Have I heard of hip hop, rap or pop?” She thought for a moment. “I guess so, but I don’t know anyone who performs them?” She was out of sorts again, and his smirk only made the feeling worse. That just seemed rude. “You didn’t care to support your housemates…,” she trailed off, rather surprised by that. If anything, she thought they supported each other. “You might have.” Now this was just getting weird.
Especially given that he’d already said they had something in common, but it seemed like only that one little thing. “I never said it was a bad thing.” Although it seemed like, even though she was much shyer than her dorm mates, it seemed like she still knew more about Hogwarts than he did. “Who?” Back to Muggle bands, she guessed. Oh well. “I have no idea.” She was starting to think she should just abandon her gift idea. Either that or just finding it here.

Colt chuckled and rolled his eyes playfully. "Well yeah I do. I mean how else can I know the storyline and figure out what to do?" Makes sense right? Why is this girl surprised. "Hmm I do try to dive into other genre's but I am kind of picky. I try to listen to Rhythm and Blues and Oldies but I am like ehh.." he shrugged like it was no big deal. She doesn't know who performs hiphop-rap? He thought he might give her a crash course. "Well some popular artists are Eminem, Tupac, Jay-Z, D12, Flo Rida..?" He hoped she knew at least one. Now when she said it like that, it didn't sound kind of heartless. He wasn't going to admit it though. He just stood there and moved onto the next topic.
This girl seemed a bit annoyed by him. He was getting the feeling she wasn't up to the gift idea for music anyways. He shrugged and suggested, "Do you want to go to another store then?"
Now that he had found this gem, Levi continued to look through the albums one-handed as he held the one that he found in his other hand. He was hoping to find more by the artist, in fact he was really hopeful, but deep down he figured it was unlikely.
The twelve year old looked up as he heard a voice. Oh, was the boy talking to him? "Misplaced Rage," he grinned as he held up the album. "I was just excited to find them... you know them?" It'd be really cool if he found another fan, but he wasn't sure many would know the muggle indie band.
"Anyway, I was just looking to see if there were any more by them." No such luck so far though.

The chuckle and the eye roll hardly went without Elle’s notice, yet she hadn’t quite figured out if he was laughing at her incredulity or if it was just innocent. That was the difficult part about talking to her housemates. It was sometimes hard to determine their sincerity. “But that isn’t really reading the game, is it?” She figured that was more reading whatever was written about the game. She was at least familiar enough with that to know that much. Most of her life before Hogwarts had been taken up by things she could do by herself at home, after all, or at least it had been that way ever since the loss of her parents. She’d only recently managed to convince her oldest sister that she wouldn’t get in trouble going out alone. And the way he kept talking about music only made her feel that much more sheltered. “Well trying to branch out is always a nice thing to do,” she said, hating how awkward she sounded. It didn’t help when the only thing she could do as he’d suddenly listed off what she assumed were rap artists was blink.
The thing she was most irritated by was the idea that he had a rude part of himself. Since the whole conversation had started off so nicely with him offering to help her. That seemed at odds with his statement that he hadn’t cared about going to the concert to support their housemates and she was still trying to understand that. Plus, there was the frustration at realizing that she really didn’t know what anyone would like, especially since she hadn’t needed to buy gifts. Ash’s birthday wasn’t for a while yet and she’d just felt like Nat and Kelly might like gifts. “I don’t know. It was just an idea anyway.” Maybe it would be better to just stick to the list.

So...he had never been in this shop before. Usually when he was down this area of the Alley, Derf's attention had been drawn towards Quality Quidditch Supplies and that was all they wrote. While the lure of flipping through more magazines and rereading all the interviews of a certain Alice Odessa Fischer he could find, the 11-year-old was feeling more like indulging his growing curiosity about this particular shop and thus had slipped inside.
Woah.
Okay...what WERE half of these things?
Picking up one of the record jackets, Derf pried it open with his fingers and peeked inside at the...er...large flat black donut-y thing. He TOTALLY knew about muggle things...just needed to, er, remember what exactly this was.

Summer was always the best time. Natalia couldn't be having a better summer. Her internship was going great and she had gotten so many opportunities with it, but she still liked being at the shop and she enjoyed being around Atticus. Hello did people see the man and how hot he was? Plus he knew so much about music and was really cool to work for.
She had walked into the shop and started to look around. It was her day off, but of course Natalia was drawn to the music and to the shop. Her eyes moved towards the bands. She knew all the musicians by heart and knew the order they were all in. Finding some that weren't put back correctly automatically Nat was rearranging the items.
So maybe she was a bit obsessive of things being in place, it wasn't a bad thing now was it.
His favourite shop in Diagon Alley was obviously the first one he hit up when his parents sent him to go and get new robes. He was sure that someone Ringo could figure out how to do a spell that would alter his uniform and make it suitable for his new height: it wasn't like he'd grown that much, not like he'd ever rival the height of his parents, and if he was going to buy new clothes, then they'd be proper clothes. He already had his eye on a new pair of boots, and figured that George would give him enough money for roadie-ing to get them before summer was out, at least.
He meandered over to the rows of vinyl records, flicking methodically through the LP's and casting glances over at the recording studio every so often. What he'd kill to get in there one day, but as much as he'd love a band, it was pretty certain that no one would put up with him it was damn hard to find the talent. Ugh.
Did they have any Radiohead? He was feeling that lately.

What a great summer this was. Yes it was!
Cornelius Orion Baltazar was a FREE man. Last summer he'd been grounded for speaking his mind -- when parents say to speak what's on your mind and then ground you -- and had spent most of his days locked up at the Baltazar estate. This summer though, it was different.
Was F R E E .
So here he was. At the music shop. Which wasn't a strange thing. When the boy wasn't out on the pitch he was following beats. On this specific summer day, the curly-head bopped his head into the shop, fingers tapping a beat on his thighs. Deeper into the shop he went, Cornelius spotted a familiar curly head bro.
Corbin Stemp. The dude who'd helped him drop water balloons on girls with white shirts. On accident, of course. One of the two was trying to catch them and 'unfortunately' dropped them. Woopsie!
"Hey, Corb. 'Sup?" Cool bro nod. Long time no see.
