| | |  The Tower Patch
Atop the north tower, a hop and a skip away from the Astronomy classroom, one will find the Tower Patch which offers a breathtaking blend of nature and history. Surrounded by weathered stone walls, lush green hedges and flower beds line the perimeter of the area and a large fountain greets you towards the opposite end. Located to the left of the fountain is a stone plaque engraved with words from former Headmistress Truebridge herself which reads :

Rest in peace old friend, beloved wife, renowned stargazer, and special professor. Always in our hearts.
Beside this plaque lays another plaque placed in memory of another professor who gave their life while in service to Hogwarts. The plaque reads :

In Memory of E.M. Forrester, a brilliant space scientist, educator, and Slytherin Head of House. He will be missed.
The garden is dotted with statues of famous astronomers, their stone forms gazing upward toward the stars they studied and the distant future they could not yet see but hoped to inspire.
Comfy benches and tables are scattered throughout the patch for students and professor alike to lounge, read a book, complete homework tasks, and just generally hang out. Positioned at each of the four corners of the Tower Patch are topiary depicting each of the four house's mascots crafted by Hogwarts students themselves - a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake- that have been proven sturdy enough to climb upon.

Astronomy lessons were cool. A little rough at first adjusting to very late classes but Gabby really liked it and it gave her a good reason to be up past her normal bedtime. Which she didn't do all too often because, A girl needed her sleep! And without the proper amount of sleep, this little firstie could become a real grump.
Not to worry though, it wasn't at all late in the evening. It was only midday on a Saturday. The perfect time to continue her explorations of the castle. This is how she ended up out on the Tower Patch. It was beautiful! The hedges, the flowers, there was even a large fountain! Around and around in a circle she spun gleefully, taking nice large breaths of crisp fresh air.
Where even should she start looking first?!

What was up with the bloody weather around here? One day it was raining and the next it was breezy with the sun shining. One thing for sure, he didn't like the change in the weather, being from Cairo the weather was always constant hot and dry and he liked it. Grumbling under his breath about how bloody cold he was like any other first year he was exploring much of the castle as possible, much to his dismay of coming here when he wanted to go to Uagadou. He was rather upset to know they were moving, he loved where he was from it was home and going to Uagadou was his dream.
Astronomy was one of Yami's favorite subjects, he studied it a lot in Cairo the way the ancient Egyptians read the stars and sun to lead them and tell time, and worshipped Nut the Egyptian goddess of the star and sky as well as Ra the God of the sun. Of course his family worshipped them, and still did to this day. One of his favorite places was the Astronomy tower, but he wondered what else there was by it or near it, wondering along he seen the Astronomy classroom before going down a bit seeing a beautiful garden like area with a fountain. "Wow..." That was all he was able to get out as his amethyst eyes looked around in awe. Finally seeing a girl his age he's blushed a bit. "Erm... sorry, didn't see you there I'm sorry am I intruding?" He didn't want to bother her if she was in deep thoughts or so.

Being from Romania the weather here didn't faze Gabby one bit. She was used to the warmth, the ice cold, storms and lots of snow. So all in all this was what she was used to but.. it wasn't home. Astronomy helped in the fact that the stars and moon were the same no matter what. Yes, there were differences as there would be anywhere but it was still the same sky.
Eep! A small startled gasp fell from her lips at the voice of someone else. Gabriella froze mid-spin almost like a deer in headlights. The only thing keeping her from giggling right now at her own silliness was the look on the boys face. "That's alright! I assumed I was all alone." She hadn't heard anyone else! Then again she hadn't been looking for anyone else either. "Nah-uh! It's so pretty up here. Lookit all the flowers and this fountain!" She smiled brightly at him.

Yami hated the weather right now, it was too cold for his taste and knew it was going to get worse. He wasn't looking forward to all the snow, cold and wetness. Stuttering at the thought of it, he knew it was going to be something he'll have to get used to. He knew once summer came, he'll be well used to the hot weather unlike some around here. Astronomy was different where he was from, but nonetheless it was still the same in a lot of ways.
Chuckling softly at the girl his amethyst eyes sparkled happily in amusement. "Easy there no need to be afraid, I'm not a professor or anything." Seeing her giggle he smiled softly. "I can see why you came up here, quite pretty up here. " Looking around at all the flowers in awe. "You know, in Egypt there's all kinds of flowers my favorite is the Lotus blue flower it's a beautiful flower."

The cold could get to be a little... Much. However Gabby LOVED the snow. There was so much to do. From making snow angels to building snowman and having snowball fights! The best part though, was warming up inside after with a mug of hot cocoa.
"I'm not scared. You simply startled me is all." There was no reason to be scared. This area wasn't off limits like the Forbidden Forest is. "This is actually my first time up here." Hence her spinning in circles excitedly before. "Egypt? Is that were you're from?" She asked curiously. "Is that like a regular lotus flower.. just.. blue?"

Wrapping his Hufflepuff scarf around him more he looked around some of the place some more, he did have to admit it was breathtaking. Perhaps the flowers were charmed to withstand any type of weather, cause they seem as beautiful as they would be in the spring and summer time. Where he was from, he didn't need hot cocoa so all this stuff on staying warm was unfamiliar to him, but he sure knew how to stay cool in extensively hot weather. Then again, he knew it was something he'll have to get used to and who knows maybe he'll like the winter time. He never seen snow before, so maybe it'll be magical.
Yami nodded. "Sorry... didn't mean to, just wondering around the castle some more I love exploring. " He didn't know what was forbidden and what wasn't beside the forest and he wasn't going in there for nothing. Yami laughed. "I can tell, it's pretty breath taking I must admit and so beautiful like the Astronomy tower." Looking at the different flowers, he nodded. "Yup but moved from Ciaro to Highgate cause of my father's job with curse breaker apparently discovering old pyramids and stuff doesn't pay well anymore. " He said sadly missing home. He nodded. "Yup it is, used a lot in acient Egyptian art."

Whenever it decided to snow, this girl was going to be outside enjoying it all! Chances were she would play outside until she was nearly frozen. She'd become a Gabby-sicle! And it would all be okay because afterwards she could go back inside and have hot cocoa and wrap herself up in a blanket. Now all it had to do was... SNOW!
Gabs waved a hand at him when he apologized. "I think that's what most of us first years can be found doing when we have free time." She wanted to see it all! Nod nod. "It's more like springtime up here rather than winter." Gabby beamed brightly. "I've never been there.. it's a really big change though, isn't it?" Was it her or did he seem sad? Oops. Her intention hadn't been to upset him. "We moved from Romania." It wasn't Cairo buuuut she did understand what it was like to move away from her home. "That's cool. Do you know a lot about flowers?"

He decided whenever it did snow, he'll be asking himself what in Ra's name was going on. He was going to be confused by it he knew that much for sure, he was already confused by the weather that was happening around here. He waa used to hot and dryness, along with sandy dunes and pyramids. Maybe he was a oddball, but he loved the hot over the cold maybe seeing the snow might change his mind.
He nodded. "Yeah that's true, but have to be careful where to go." He knew that the forest was out of bound, but he didn't knew where else was yet. "Yeah you're right it is, sorta feels like it as well" Not that he minded, he liked how nice it felt up here verses the cold. "Oh yeah, major change from having nothing but hot and dry to this type of weather here. Wow... Romania what's it like there? Do dragons really fly around there as they say?" He knew it was probably silly to ask, but he heard only witches and wizards were able to only seen them. He shrugged. [B]"Nah... not really, only the ones from Egypt but not many grow there you know. "

Welllllllll, this girl right here wouldn't mind not one little bit showing him all that there was to enjoy once the snow came. From ice skating, to sledding, to building snow people and having snowball fights! She'd be more than happy to share her own enthusiasm of the cold weather with him anytime. Plus, it was always more fun when she wasn't all alone.
"I guess. I think the Forbidden Forest is easily noticable even while exploring." There wasn't anyway they could NOT see a big ole huge forest in front of them. Though, if she were to be completely honest... Venturing inside did hold some interest within. How could it not? Entering into the unknown was incredibly mysterious! She wouldn't be risking her life for no reason at all though... So she supposed there wasn't a thing to worry about when it came to that.
Gabby nodded. "If you ignore the coldness that is." The young Ravenclaw giggled. Once that cold begun to seep through the layers of clothing she was wearing, there wasn't much more to be done than head back inside and warm up. "That's got to be a big change... I'm sure you gotta miss the hot weather." As much as she loved the summertime, constant hotness would eventually get on her nerves. "Yup! Depending on where you are that is. They're very protected. There's special reserves to keep them safe buuuuuuuuut if you go to the right places you could get lucky and see them flying around in the distance." It was all about boundaries and respect when it came to dragons! "Oh, well that makes sense. There's different plants and flowers all over the world." Just another interesting part of nature and life.
