The Astronomy classrooms door was wide open and warm light was spilling out of it, the normal amount of light this time. Since the class was being held at ten, instead of midnight Kalen wasn’t using any of his tricks to keep the kids awake. The classroom was warm and all the windows were closed, keeping the late March chill at bay.
When you enter the classroom you instantly notice that something is different, the chairs are arranged in a semi-circle instead of the normal rows, looks like the assigned seating is out the window for this lesson. They also seem to be paired up as well.
Aside from the odd desk arrangement, scattered around the edges of the room, where the telescopes usually stand are small tables with black cloths over them.
Kalen is leaning on his desk, his ankles crossed as he waits for everyone to show up. Behind him on his desk are pieces of parchments and writing utensils, wonder what those could be for?
OOC: Welcome to Astronomy class! Assigned seating isn’t in place for this class, so feel free to have them sit anywhere they wish. Just remember that even though this is the second Rp’d class this is not your second class with Professor Kennedy! Come on in, say Hi and we will continue on in about 24 hours.. ish! Also please keep the chatting to a minimum!Class has started! All late comers will face IC consequences, so feel free to pretend like your Charrie was here all along.
Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something...
Whelp that worked out well. Eddie looked around the room grudgingly that no one picked him before the professor said something. They'd get theirs for that one. He got up and moved to the two girls the professor told him to sit with. The puff and the lion. Sitting down he gave them both a small smile, "Thank you for letting me join you." Not that they really had any choice in the matter, but he would be polite.
As for the question, it seemed his partner already knew an answer and spoke for them which was fine by him, because he wasn't one to really talk in class anyway. So instead of talking Edward sat quietly and looked at the students that were talking. He sat straight up for once and fully showed he was paying attention.
Hmm....
Gabby was a bit concerned about how many students didn't pick other students for partners that needed one and the one that started the trio clearly had to have seen that many were without a partner. That was a little hurtful to those students that she wanted to be with her certain friends, now wasn't it? The professor allowing it and not keeping with the original two was a bit concerning as well. Her quill continued to scribble the notes that were needed to fill out the evaluation form.
She listened as he brought the class back and asked the first question and she was interested in how the students answered and interacted with each other. Some didn't seem to wait for their group to chat together and knew the answer quickly, though she noticed her daughter didn't seem to be engaged which was a bit interesting since she had known she was very studious and good in classes.

Oh. Nebulae. Well, at least Derf was Derf enough to correct the teacher. That was at least mildly reassuring. And he was answering the question, too. As he was doing so, Natalie took the quill and wrote down a few key words to what he was saying.
Nurseries for stars... Horsehead, owl, red spider, crab, eagle... Pillars of Creation...
Drawing a line between the Pillars of Creation and the eagle nebula, she heard Derf kind of trail off. Natalie peered up at him... and noticed the dazed look on his face. Dread settled into her and her stomach twisted. That wasn't a good look. Was Derf getting possessed now too? WAS HE GONNA GET CURSED???
"Derf?" she whispered, big blue eyes worried, eyebrows knotted in concern.
And no, she wasn't paying attention to the lesson anymore.

Whatever Derf HAD been about to say was out the window and to the Moon by now. And, well, since he sorta knew about space and some laws of motion with something about an object in motion will stay in motion...well...those thoughts just kept going further and further away from him. He barely heard Natalie to be honest, and it wasn't until Daisy had somewhat shouted his name that his mind came back into orbit.
"HUH?!" he heaved, rubbing his eyes as if he had been asleep for a bit and then blinking away all those dots that appeared whenever you rubbed your eyes too hard. "Wrong?" His eyes flew to Daisy first and then glanced over at Natalie. "Is there something on my face?"
What was wrong with him? What?
"I'm okay, Daisy..." Or he thought he was okay. Though that did he know. He was just a hindrance except when it came to Creatures it seemed.
Oh...there was another adult person in the room...somehow Derf did not recognize...which proooooobably meant they were a member of the Board. He had kinda forgotten that that was a thing this term...but there really was JUST CAUSE to observe this man right now. So Derf rubbed his eyes a bit more to make sure that the woman was not a figment of his imagination and leaned over to Natalie again. "You can see her too, right?" he whispered while pointing to the woman.

"Erm, Professor Kennedy, sorry, I...don't have a partner either," she said quietly. And now she had to ask the professor for help. HER. A sixth year. Asking for help. How embarrassing.
Erm, right, back to the question. THAT she could at least hop in on at any time. Except...she couldn't remember anything about nebulas from her OWL studies. When it came to Astronomy (and some other classes, like Runes, YUCK) it was like all the information had just fallen right out of her head. She raised her hand anyways, though, because she could still contribute SOMETHING.
"Nebulas are SOOOOOOOO pretty! They're like paintings, and the makeup palettes inspired by them are AMAZING as well," she added. Not that Kennedy probably cared about that, but it was important to HER.
Kalen smiled at Miss Reynolds as she spoke, “Indeed they are very beautiful.” He commented, he was about to tell her who she could pair up with but it seemed to sort itself out. So he didn’t mention that bit.

They sat in a air filled igloo type thing in class and looked at stars... what had that lady said about nebulas?
He sat and thought for another second, "Those are what look like cloudy star balls that are actually other galaxies of stars, right?" he couldn't believe he had remembered that, really his favorite part was eating the mint and seeing the sparks from breaking the mint.
Kalen tried not to laugh as Mr.Dooley spoke. “Well you are mostly on the right track.” Sorta, ish? He got the Cloud part right at least?

Wait, what was that answer? Cloudy star balls? Galaxies of stars? Made him blush at that. Little dude knew these answers reflected on both of them, right? Since Professor Kennedy had told them to work together the rest of the class. "You do realize that the 'clouds' can be any shape and that galaxies are made up of more than just stars, right?" Professor Kennedy already had a pretty low opinion of him, judging by the rehearsal incident, he didn't need it to sink any lower.
Man, if he'd just waited a few minutes, he could've worked with someone who wouldn't say stupid stuff like that.
Kalen couldn’t help but smile as he saw Mr. Carter whisper to his partner, yeah perhaps that answer hadn’t been the best, but he had answered so full points to the team.

So far, it didn't seem like anyone else was so...she was just....gonna go ahead and give an answer? The group work aspect she got, just not the idea of group answers.
What if they didn't agree? Did they have to take a vote and do a whole democratic thing? She didn't think she'd be able to agree on an idea simply because she was overruled. Granted, her friends were smart and they'd likely come to about the same answers but what about those questions that might not have been textbook answer based and relied more on opinion?
One thing at a time, Jessa.
"They're known as the place where stars are 'born'." Of course, they weren't really born, they were just stars, but you got the idea.
Kalen nodded as Jessa spoke. “Some of them are indeed known as that.” He said with a nod. Thank for speaking up for your team.Miss Cambridge.

As long as she didn't mine...which he could cross out the word on their parchment since he had already written "What do you know about nebulae?" on it.
"They are nurseries for stars," Derf began. "And...like loads of nurseries, they have unique designs and colors." Not that he could see them properly but he had heard Abey describe them loads of times. "Loads of them look like animals...like...there is the Horsehead nebula, Owl nebula, Red Spider nebula, Crab nebula, Manatee nebula, Tarantula nebula, Eagle nebula...WHERE those Pillars of Creation are found and stuff..."
Eagle. Eagle nebula. Pillars of Creation. Red blood eagle.

Derf's eyes became a bit unfocused as the cogs began spinning. They were ALL in danger.
Kalen nodded as Mr. Ashburry-Hawthorne spoke up, “Indeed they do, and yes several of them look like animals.” Sort of at least. But yes, mostly. He noticed the boys demeanor and he raised an eyebrow but stayed silent for the moment. The Hufflepuff had been through a lot back a few days ago in the Room of Requirement, Kalen was surprised he was in class, if he was honest. At least there were no angry eyes glaring in his direction so far, so.. Yay?

"Nebulas are huge clouds of dust and gas that form in space. Their color depends on the reflected light that's hitting them. SO MANY RACING QUESTIONS.
Kalen nodded as the Hufflepuff spoke. “Indeed they are Miss Fanelli.” He smiled at her words, she seemed excited, which was nice. He always appreciated enthusiasm.

Kalen noticed that Miss McKinley wasn’t paying attention and was instead looking at Derf. Kalen sighed softly and yet didn’t call her out just yet. He was watching those two though.

She felt kind of bad that she didn't know, 'cause she tried to remember at least all the other second years' names from other Houses and stuff, but there was no point in pretending she knew the girl's name or anything silly like that. The twelve-year-old plopped back down in her seat and scribbled her name at the top of the group parchment she'd already retrieved before sliding it across the desks to the Hufflepuff girl.
Sadly, there wasn't much time to talk to her new partner or anything 'cause Professor Kennedy started talking again pretty quickly. And and, he told Eddie to join her (now) trio! The Gryffindor shot the slightly older Slytherin boy a huuuge grin; her duel against him last term had seemed super awful and icky at the time, but as time passed, she had started thinking that it was actually kind of funny and stuff. As her opinion of the duel had improved, so had her opinion of Eddie. Plus, he'd brought flowers for Miss Olivia when she was in hospital last term without even knowing her and stuff! So, to say that Emmeline was pretty happy to work with him and the Hufflepuff girl would be a bit of an understatement.
Her grin fell off her face faster than a Firebolt when Professor Kennedy asked his question, though. She had NO idea what a nebulum-thing was -- was that even its name? -- and so her answer was bound to be really lame. She was impressed by Derf's answer (and the rest of her classmates' answers too, of course) 'cause he knew LOADS of stuff about them, apparently. Emmeline scrunched her forehead into wrinkles as she struggled to remember anything from the skimming of her Astronomy textbook that she did any time Professor Kennedy assigned them homework (which was wayy too often, by the way). She was pretty sure that she remembered a biiig, beautiful thing in the sky with loads of bright lights from the book that she thought was a nebula. She raised her hand tentatively and muttered super quietly, "They're realllly pretty. And they have loads of different colors and stuff." Yup, that was about as bad as she'd thought it would be. Maybe she'd get lucky and nobody would hear her dumb answer...
Kalen nodded as Miss Sparkes spoke. “Indeed they are very pretty.” He said with a smile as his attention was taken by Miss Swann.

Daisy could see that her fellow Hufflepuff was behaving rather oddly to notice Professor Kennedy's question. Her hand shot up instantly. "Professor! I think there's something the matter with Derf!" Daisy said rather frantically.
Meh, he had been content to leave the situation alone, but now he actually had to face it. “Miss Swann, Thank you for letting me know, but I would appreciate it if you would pay attention to the lesson and the question I asked of all of you.”
He said as he looked at her and then at Mr. Ashburry-Hawthorne and Miss McKinley. “If you need to go to the Healers wing, Mr. Ashburry-Hawthorne you may go and Miss McKinley may escort you. If not I would appreciate if you paid attention, and Miss McKinley, I would like an answer to my question please.” Normally he would have let them get away with one answer per team, but since they weren’t paying attention, he wanted an answer from them as well.

Plus, she seemed equally as concerned about Jessa as he was.
Careful, yeah.
"....okay." He gave Jessa's hand a squeeze and Julie a brief glance when he was sure Jessa wasn't looking. He trusted the Ravenclaw's judgement but he also knew that some risks were unpredictable when it came to her experiments. There was nothing for him to do NOW though so he let it go. He made a mental note to join her more often for the feeding of the birds. Just in case.
Also playing with Jessa's fingers with one hand he used the other to add Julie's name to their piece of parchment. A team name? He was okay with that, naturally, but gave them both an expectant look, not having any ideas himself. As for the first question of the day...
...Jessa answered that for their group. This was what the professor wanted, yeah? Group answers. Cameron trusted both the girls' intelligence and ability to give the correct - or what they believed to be the correct - answer so in his opinion there was no need for any sort of in-group discussion. He gave Jessa a quick smile before looking back down at their parchment.
Was he supposed to write down the answer too?
Kalen noted Mr.Tamesis silence, but then Jessa had already answered, and since the boy seemed to be paying attention, Kalen merely nodded and moved on.

His usual partner-in-crime was under the weather and couldn't quite make it today.
But Kirk did notice at least one still not partnered up, "I'll partner with you, Scarlett." He offered to her. It appeared she wasn't the only lone one though as another girl was nearby. "Hey Miranda, want to be partners?" They could be a trio unless they had another offer already. The following question did light up Kirk's light blue eyes. "Nebulas were originally named as any diffused galaxies or objects related to the subject." That was a start.
But here came Mr. Forsfelle to swoop in and save the day for Miss Reynolds and Miss Blaze. He gave the boy a nod and smiled at his answer. “Indeed they were.” He said.

Ooh. And Viv could be their partner too? That great. "Come sit with us Viv!" The blonde girl beamed, moving over a little so they could all fit on the desk. "It's a cloud of dust and gas in Space" Pretty simple really.
A simple answer, Kalen appreciated that. “Indeed Miss Paton, Thank you for your answer.”

Kalen noticed that Mr.Blaze seemed to be paying attention and he gave him a nod, since his partner had already answered for the team.
He noticed Derfael seeming to come back to himself a bit. Okayyy.. Could we pay attention now please?
Kalen looked at the class and nodded after they had stopped giving their answers. “There were many good answers, thank you all for telling me what you knew about Nebulae.” He said with a smile as he moved to stand in front of his desk.
“Nebula, is Latin for the word cloud or fog. And Nebula are interstellar clouds of dust and gases, such as hydrogen and helium and it contains other ionized gases as well. They are often very large, several million light years across and they can be nurseries for new stars.” He said with a smile. “They are very beautiful, have many pretty colors and a few can be seen with the naked eye. The Orion Nebula for example can be seen as you look up to the constellation and notice that one of the stars in Orion’s sword looks fuzzy. That is the Orion Nebula.” He explained as he leaned back on his desk.
“Now way back when, Astronomers used to call any cloudy object they saw in the sky a Nebula, many galaxies were originally called a Nebula, Of course since then Scientists have narrowed down what Nebulae are. ” He paused for a moment, knowing he was hitting them with a lot of information and he still had several things to tell them.
“Now, there are many types of Nebulae, categories if you will. And some types have subcategories, but I’ll try to simplify it for you and give you the terms at least, as well as a simple explanation.”
Kalen moved to the board and started to write.
“We have H II regions, pronounced H 2, these are mostly Hydrogen based and are active star making regions.
Emission Nebulae, are made of ionized gasses and usually have a Star nearby, many of them appear red.
Dark Nebulae, which are clouds of dust so dense that they hide the light behind them.
Reflection Nebula which reflects the light of stars around them instead of creating their own.
Planetary, which have nothing to do with planets actually and are shells of gas that are emitted when stars die.
And finally,
Supernova remnants, which are created when a star dies in a massive explosion known as a supernova.”
Whew.. and now all what he had just said was written on the board for them to see and take notes if they wished.
“Now I know I just hit you all with a lot of information and there are a few more type of Nebula and some of the ones I mentioned are subtypes of others, but for this class, these are the ones I will be focusing on. If you want to know more, your textbook has a wealth of knowledge.”
Kalen moved back around to his desk and with a wave of his hand, the black cloths came off the desks that were around the room and revealed eight stations with moving pictures of what looked like a Nebula on each station. He was thankful he had found them.
“Now in your groups, I want you to go to at least four of the stations and see if you can figure out the name of the Nebula, if it is a Nebula, and what type of Nebula it is. Discuss with your groups what you think each Nebula is and write it down on your parchment.”
Kalen settled back on his desk. “Everyone up, and off to the stations. If you have any questions just let me know. I’ll be calling out to switch Stations in a little bit.”
OOC: Hey all! I know that was a lot of information! Okay we are onto the main activity! Which is just going to a Station in your group, naming the Nebula and saying what kind of Nebula is it. We will be moving on with the rest of the lesson in about 96 hours or so, but I’ll be posting about once a day telling them to switch stations if they haven’t already. Please visit at least TWO stations! Thanks! If you have any questions please let me know.
Oh! Group time! Okay then. Jonas looked around. Who would he want to join? Or who would want to join him? He wouldn't know.
"Anyone want to join me?" He called outloud.

Natalie was STILL staring at Derf with her big blues, STILL concerned for his well-being when he seemed to come out of his trance-like state, unaware that he was acting odd. Well, that part was normally, really. Someone else had noticed it too, though, but Natalie didn't think calling it out loud in class was the best idea so Natalie shot the girl a LOOK.
"No, there's nothing on your face, and yes, I can see her too" she whispered, but that gIRL had the teacher involved now AND Natalie was getting in trouble for not paying attention but she didn't CARE because she was looking after her friend, so EXCUSE HER for not answering your question, professor. Despite her will, Natalie felt some heat rise to her cheeks from the spotlight they were under.
"Sorry professor, but I'm afraid I don't have anything to add," she said with a sliiiiight hint of 'TUDE.
And then the class was moving on and going to their stations.
As for escorting him to the healer's wing... Natalie looked back up at Derf. "Do you want to go?" she whispered at him, squeezing his arm, not really specifying that they would go to the healer's wing because maybe he just needed some fresh air or a hand to hold or something and MAYBE she was insinuating that they should skip class... Maybe.
She did wish she had a photographic memory, though because she DID want to learn about these NebuLAE and all the information looked very interesting, but... Derf, at the moment, was more important. She could steal her brother's notes later.

Oh... Was the Librarian a mind-reader!? Because how'd he know it was going to be difficult to choose between her best friends? Then again, the whole school knew they were besties, so it wasn't as if it was a classified secret.
A brief nod at the blond prefect to join them and sign her name on their sheet and then Skylar had almost missed the question about nebulas. How had no one mentioned the latin root of the word? Like, did no one else take Latin? Cloud or fog, so it was basically IN the word meaning what a nebula was; a cloud of dust and gas, specifically helium and hydrogen gases. It was at that moment that she was tempted to make a Disney joke about them being 'clouds of gas burning billions of miles away', but then the Librarian was moving on and it seemed they had to go around to different stations to identify what type of nebula was at each one.
Writing on their parchment, "Station Five: Horsehead Nebula", she turned toward her fellow group members for input. "It's red, but it's also got that dark cloud ...But I think that the red is more a focal point than the cloud of dust, so it's probably the first type."

Kalen tried not to laugh as Mr.Dooley spoke. “Well you are mostly on the right track.” Sorta, ish? He got the Cloud part right at least?
Kalen couldn’t help but smile as he saw Mr. Carter whisper to his partner, yeah perhaps that answer hadn’t been the best, but he had answered so full points to the team.
Kalen nodded as Jessa spoke. “Some of them are indeed known as that.” He said with a nod. Thank for speaking up for your team.Miss Cambridge.
Yay?
Kalen nodded as the Hufflepuff spoke. “Indeed they are Miss Fanelli.” He smiled at her words, she seemed excited, which was nice. He always appreciated enthusiasm.
Kalen noticed that Miss McKinley wasn’t paying attention and was instead looking at Derf. Kalen sighed softly and yet didn’t call her out just yet. He was watching those two though.
Kalen nodded as Miss Sparkes spoke. “Indeed they are very pretty.” He said with a smile as his attention was taken by Miss Swann.
“Thank you for your input to our discussion.” Kalen said kindly, he was right about them being far away at least?
Kalen noted Mr.Tamesis silence, but then Jessa had already answered, and since the boy seemed to be paying attention, Kalen merely nodded and moved on.
Well at least Miss Blaze was taking notes. Though she didn’t seem to have a partner yet.
But here came Mr. Forsfelle to swoop in and save the day for Miss Reynolds and Miss Blaze. He gave the boy a nod and smiled at his answer. “Indeed they were.” He said.
Relief washed over the Hufflepuff's face when Natalie confirmed that he could see the woman too. "Thank Merlin," he said, slouching a little into his seat and FINALLY doing a bit of his signature hair ruffle. Both hands.
But the ruffling was short live as the librarian drew aaaaaaaaaall the attention EVER to himself. And Natalie. And the situation that wasn't really a situation. And then was trying to get her to respond to the question in that TONE that caused a little more unintentional spiraling to happen and the third year to tense up a little. He was about to warn Natalie just to say SOMETHING because the man could be a real banshee when provoked (the Room of Requirement had proven that) but words were slipping out of Natalie's mouth before he could stop her. And his eyes went a bit wide and then he was leaning over to whisper something just for her ears. "If he tries to put you in a Full Body-Bind Curse...I'll jump in front of you and take the hit." Seemed kinda mean that the librarian was poking at Natalie to answer when not EVERYONE else had too...and Derf had spoken for their group already and that seemed to be the trend so...
Derf was 10000000% prepared to leap in front of Natalie at the first sign of trouble.
But they were moving on to the activity now - after he shook his head at the mention of the hospital wing because nope...not keen on going there. At all.
Textbook open, Derf flipped to the index to find the information again for a more portable setting and, well, visuals. Though he was going to need to be incredibly dependent on Natalie for this part. "Did...you know that....this space telescope thingy that gives us these pictures...it can ONLY take pictures in black and white?" he asked timidly as he scanned over the page before getting out of his seat and slowly leading her over to station number 3.

Patrick grabbed his paper and pen in his hand. He figured that he should get a move on but Ronan hadn't said much either. although the grumbling under his breath was annoying. He didn't have to pick him as a partner. As an older student he could have talked with anyone in the classroom to be his partner or held out for another few minutes. His eyes rolled, a habit his mama hated that he had picked up in muggle school.
"Want to head to station seven first Ronan?" he asked hoping that maybe it wouldn't be so bad working with Ronan as he thought it would be.

Ah, so that was what they'd end up doing. Right. It wasn't exactly the sort of hands on lesson that would have left the Ravenclaw enthused about the subject, but at least it wasn't a textbook discussion. Those were the worst in the subject, rivaled only by similar discussions taking place in History of Magic.
Basically, this could've been worse so the Ravenclaw wasn't about to start complaining--not when all she had to do was walk around the room with her friends and label things. The fact Jessa no longer looked for challenges when she attended lessons left this as little disappointment. "Grab your texts, should make everything way easier."
Unless...you know.....either of them was particularly good at knowing the nebulae off the top of their heads.
She couldn't. Astronomy held very little interest to her so this wasn't the sort of thing she spent too much time studying. With that, Jessa turned and headed for the 8th station, figuring most would start for the first and those would be more crowded. "I'm gonna go ahead and assume this one's a nebula." The young girl said, prying her book open to find an image that matched it. What Chapter were these in again?

There was a whole night sky to explore, and they were looking at pictures? This wasn't quite the distraction Sam hoped for from her favourite class, even if nebulae looked pretty and cool. With a internal sigh, Sam picked up the parchment and quill and looked towards her partner (Isa).
"I vote we start at one of the later stations," she said. Less busy, since she figured most people would start at the beginning. Seemed like Jessa's group had the same logic, and Sam lead the way past them to Station 5. A smile spread across her face as she immediately recognised it - its distinctive shape a dead giveaway. "The Horsehead," she said quietly. "Pretty sure it's dark nebula...the horse shape is actually a silhouetted dust cloud lit from behind."

So what were they doing again?
Eddie sat there waiting for the girls to do all the work, but it seemed they weren't going to get up either. So he grabbed his book. "Okay, let's get going." He moved towards station five first since it seemed the one less crowded. He would do anything to not get around too many people.
A glance to see if the girls were following he made eye contact with his mother before turning back to look at whatever they were supposed to be looking at.
Now, what were they trying to do? Find a Nebula? He looked at what was in front of him and then to the girls. Hopefully, they'd do the work here.
Viv was shocked at all the answers. Not too shabby... Nebulae was an interesting topic... Weren't nebulae explosions?? She was very excited to learn about nebulae... what a different word. Viv then started taking notes:
Quote:

Those notes were hard on the hands... wow! She then sketched the nebulae from the board...

Yeah, he saw that eyeroll. He wasn't going to comment on it, though. If the kid didn't want to be corrected, he shouldn't mess up facts that were learned in primary school. And cultural differences had nothing to do with it, either, as both of his cousins had gone to primary school in America as well and both of them would've gotten that. Anyway, they were moving on. To looking at pictures of the nebulae. Weren't there telescopes that were strong enough to see these things?
"Yeah, sure." To station seven it was. And the fact that it looked like a giant slice of lemon was giving him ideas. Ideas that he acted on. Ronan slid to the floor in front of the picture, holding up his cup. Coffee wasn't one of those things people normally put lemon in, but everyone got the idea, right? "Hey, what's this lemon doing in my glass?" he asked loudly and with a definitely fake-y frown. Tee-hee.

Cameron hadn't thought to take out ANOTHER piece of parchment, aside from the one he'd written their name on. Uhm. This sounded important though. So after a moment of hesitation he then proceeded to take notes at the bottom of their shared parchment. They'd all be needing them, yeah? Surely, they'd come in handy.
Emission...Planetary...Supernova...
Once the photos had been revealed, Cam gathered his textbook and their piece of parchment and followed Jessa over to the station. Right. He nodded, then looked from the two girls to the picture again. "There are a lot of stars surrounding it so..." Reading over the notes he'd just taken, Cameron gave a half shrug. "Reflection or Emission? Although it's not red, so..." Reflection? Yeah?

She needed to be on top of everything she did in order to make sure she passed her owls. She jumped up when they got to do some work. She wanted to see if they could get the name right.
She followed Sky over, and wrote down the station number. "Very red..." She mused with a little smile. She looked at the picture, trying to think about it in relation what the professor had told her. "It's also a horse head one I think... I mean it looks like a horse's head.... but yes. I agree it's darker.... And you also can't really see the light through it. so.....a dark Nebula?"

Kalen eyed Miss McKinley as she spoke to him, but he merely nodded and said nothing. He wasn’t one to normally argue with teens in his class, he showed his disappointment in other ways. Like lack of points..
He looked around and tapped his chin, Not many of them had gotten past the first Station. Hmmm..
“You have five minutes left to identify your nebulae. ” He said as he looked at the clock. Before he asked them a final question and then he would let them go a bit early.

Patrick looked at the image too, although his knowledge was significantly less than Ronans. He saw that the image looked lemon like, but he wasn't really sure what it was supposed to mean other than it looked like a lemon. "It does look like a lemon." He wasn't sure what else he was supposed to say about the situation, but he figured that Ronan would say something else if he thought that it was that important. "I assume that the thing has something to do with lemons?"

Girls were not quiet, so now why were they being quiet. He sighed and looked back at the station. What was the nebula in this,
he didn't have a clue. This was not going to go well. Maybe he could just go ask his mother. Would she tell him?
"Okay, well I think that's it right there." He pointed to a random spot. If nothing else maybe his mother was seeing him be a pretend leader of the group and trying. So putting things in his notes he looked around. To the next station, it seemed they needed to go.
Headed to the next one he looked at it and tried to determine the nebula in that one. This was just the worst, he hoped librarian man was happy. Maybe his mother would give bad marks on his evaluation.
Well this was all of the class? She was so confused,
but then maybe they had this lesson before and knew all they needed to know about Nebulas and that's why he jumped into stations so quickly.
Gabby looked at her parchment and quill to make sure it was getting everything and pointed to ask a question to the professor later. She had thought it odd when a librarian was also a professor, but as the board had decided not to hire another professor it all worked out.
Getting up from her seat she moved to the stations to get a better look. "Excuse me, children, can you explain what you are looking at right now?" Maybe they would enlighten her on what they knew and didn't know.

Kalen looked up at the clock and sighed softly, they were running out of time, and he still had one more question to ask. He eyed the BOG member in his class that was trying to ask questions and he sighed softly. Weren’t they just supposed to observe?
“All right everyone, if you all would come back to your seats? I have one more question before class time is up.” He said as he moved back to lean on his desk and waited for the students to come back to their seats. Perhaps group work wasn’t exactly a good thing? Well you live and learn yeah?
“Okay last question, could everyone tell me one thing they learned about Nebulae? I want everyone to answer this please.” He said as he looked at them all. No more group work, he wanted to know what had sunk it and what hadn’t. Homework purposes and all.
OOC: Hey Guys! It’s the last question! I’m moving on a bit early cause I won’t be around tonight. You have about 24 hours or so to answer this. Thanks.

Derf continued to eye the picture while Natalie spoke and couldn't help but feel a bit of an awkward jolt at her calling it lame that the telescope thingy didn't take color pictures. "Just because you can't see all the colors...doesn't mean you can't appreciate the beauty of things..." he replied softly, a bit defensively really. For reasons. "But like...the telescope thingy has cameras on it that measure other things...so they can add the color later....they use color as a tool, you know. To like... enhance an object's detail or to visualize what ordinarily could never be seen by the human eye." Especially HIS eyes but he wasn't going down that path again.
"Crab nebula...see? This oval bit is the shell," he stated after a bit. "What was a reflection nebula again?" He looked down at his textbook for the definition. "Um...maybe?" Derf honestly didn't know and just WORDS were not helpful for the Hufflepuff who was more of a visual learner. Kinda wished they had been shown example of each before being thrown into the mix. "But I DO know that this is the Crab nebula....and I know station five is the Horsehead nebula..."
For what THAT was worth.

Um..........wasn't that kinda obvious?
And Derf did NOT like being referred to as a CHILD. Why he always appreciated Levi for, you know, talking to and treating him like a person rather than a lost child or something. No coddling with that Gryffindor. Just ask the Book Maze about THAT.
But...er...since no one was answering her and Derf thought THAT was rude...Derf figured he ought to, you know?
"Pictures," he stated, plain and simple - to the point.
Right? Right.
SPOILER!!: librarian man

Thanks.
Well...that was that then. Shrugging to Natalie as he at least scribbled the two names of the nebulae on their parchment (Crab and Hosehead but with this type left in a sort of vague TBD kind of thing), the third year wandered back to his seat and set the parchment down between both their desks.
Ruffling his hair, Derf tried to think of something that wasn't...lame and raised his hand. "That there are...five different types of nebulae..." he offered up. Although he still wasn't sure HOW to identify them, as was indicated by 'reflection nebula?' written underneath Crab nebula on their parchment and just a series of question marks underneath Horhsehead nebula.

"I'm gonna go with what you say, so you can go ahead and write that down on our parchment." Since she was beginning to think the parchment they'd written their names on as a group was where the answers were meant to go. Oh, here it was. Finally she'd found the page. "Go ahead and note that it's the Witch Head Nebula and that reflection stuff you were talking abou--"
What...?
They had to go back to their seats already? Jessa looked back to the other seven stations, feeling more than a tinge of disappointment at not getting through at least four like the Professor had said they needed to. "I guess we won't finish then." She said, linking arms with him and leading him back to their seats. Julie was coming, yes?
Jessa's gaze fell to the odd woman out, a member of the BoG if she had to guess. "Nebulae." That's what they were looking at. At least.....that's what she thought they were looking at, they'd only gotten to one station. The others could've been different. Maybe they weren't all gonna be nebulae and they'd have known that if they'd gotten further. Now she was even more disappointed. Such a seemingly easy task and they'd gotten hardly any of it done.
Back at her seat, she lifted her hand. "Emission nebulae usually appear red." There, she'd learned that.

Kalen nodded as Derf spoke. Indeed there was, at least that he had taught. “Thank you Mr. Ashburry-Hawthorne.” He said, he was glad that that at least had sunk in.

Kalen nodded as Jessa spoke, “Thank you Miss Cambridge.” He said with a soft smile at the girl before he turned his attention back to the class.
Kalen looked around to see if there were any other answers before nodding. “All right! Class is over and you are all dismissed. I would like one roll of parchment on the five different types of nebulae we went over today and how to tell them apart.” He said as he stood up. “Please leave your parchment you used today in class on my desk. And if anyone would like to be walked back to their common room, just let me know.” He said as he looked at them all. He wasn’t sure if anyone was worried about being cursed or possessed or not, but if they were he would be happy to walk them back to their common rooms.
It was late after all.
OOC:All right! Class is over! I’ll leave the thread open for another 24 hours! Thanks for coming!

Skylar shook her head when Hattie seemed to suggest something different from what she was thinking about. "I was thinking more along the lines of Emission Nebula, because of how red it is," Skylar explained her reasoning, before shifting over to the next station. But then it hit her, maybe it was dark???? "No wait, you're right, I think." One of the super confusing one in her OWL revisions.
Also, two things; one, why did that Governor's lady insult them by referring to them as children? And two, did she honestly think that this was their first introduction the subject? Obviously, they'd had some assigned readings about nebula, not to mention the librarian had recapped the different types before they started at their stations.
Speaking of the librarian, time to wrap things up already? Well, didn't that lesson just fly by? Much quicker than when lessons started at midnight which seemed rather strange. Quickly finishing up the notes on the different stations, she was about to add to what was learned about nebulae, when it seemed class was dismissed. That was what happened when one took too long to deliberate on which type of nebula is each picture.
"Thanks for the lesson," Skylar noted to the librarian, dropping off her group's parchment with him, making another mental reminder to visit him soon before term ended.

Well, of course, she knew those were pictures. She looked at the child a bit oddly. "Well yes, but I was trying to see what you have learned from your professor about what is in the pictures and to know if you really know what you are doing in this lesson." Was this the students that were in Hogwarts or were the professors not helping the students learn at all? She gave a look towards the professor who had seemed to forget she was even in the room, but that was a good thing, she was just there to observe.
He was quickly having them sit not and she took her seat again. Checking the time she couldn't believe how quickly the lesson went and how little the professor had spoken to the class.
As quickly as the question came it was time to be done. She gathered her things and looked towards her children before the professor. "Thank you for allowing me in today."
When it was time to come back to his seat Edward was glad.
He wanted nothing to do with the activity anymore and his partners hadn't helped at all. Putting his things away and of course, wasnt going to be answering any questions even if the professor wanted to hear from everyone.
Thankful that it was time to leave he gathered his things and headed out without talking to his mother.
