A belly stuffed…a long trek up the multiple stone staircases complete, you reach the top of Hogwarts’ highest tower in time for Astronomy. The usual warming charms are in place to keep the chilly December night air at bay outside the open tower room as you step inside. As for the actual outside, Mother Nature has apparently gotten the message that there was an astronomy lesson going on tonight, the night sky wonderfully clear for the most part as if Professor Gert had been able to specifically plan it that way.
The woman in question is standing off to the side of one of the large archways near the farther front end of the room. Her face a polite smile as her attention lay caught between the sights beyond and lying in wait to welcome everyone to the latest lesson. Take a seat at one of the familiar curved desks and prepare to learn. Your curiosity as to the topic of the evening will be satisfied shortly.
ooc: Welcome to Astronomy. As always this is not the first lesson of the term despite being the only one RPed so please behave as such. Class will begin in earnest in about 24 hours.
Would there ever come a day when Vera would remember to not stuff herself full at dinner before an Astronomy lesson? The food coma she never failed to put herself in always made her so terribly sleepy. And this evening was no exception as she made her way up to the classroom and entered, stifling a yawn with the back of her hand as she did so. Oops. Once the yawn had passed, hazel eyes turned to Professor Gert and she offered a sheepish smile. "Good evening, Professor. It's awfully pleasant in here!" She said as she made her way towards a desk and slid into a spot, before working on brining out her parchment and quills for note taking.
She did a quick glance around the room, looking for any clues on the subject for the lesson this evening. Spotting none, she just went back to preparing her supplies on her desk and waiting for any other arrivals.

Eugh. So many steps. Too much walking. Why, oh why, did this basically have to be a class in the sky.
Would be the rhetorical thought as a witty serpent snaked his way up the staircase to the Astronomy Tower after dinner. Of course, it was rhetorical for he knew why said class was on the topmost floor. Simply an easier view of the many stars, constellations, and planetary bodies this way. But still, it did reel in the question of why couldn't they finally just install elevators or escalators? Archie had heard they had the former within the bounds of the Ministry itself, so why not grace the students with it? To put it another way, the very thing would come in extremely handy. It was the early 22nd century after all; why not use the luxury of these certain inventions, muggle or otherwise, to their advantage. Even those who did potentially see the counter-argument of 'traditionalism' had to admit, it was devices such as those which made life all the more easier without actually needing magic. Which is what made it all the more fun.
Sighing as he finally reached the stair's apex though, it was a relief to have made it up to the room in due time. Walking right into the classroom though, there was an ambiance of slight mystery. Most of the time, the Professor had already laid out something that gave a hint as to what the lesson would be about. Not this time around though it would appear. Then again, that in and of itself did tie in with the subject as a whole. As much of Astronomy in general was shrouded in the unknowing certainty of the universe and its many marvels. Ultimately, it was something that Archie would just shrug off in his mind and not question too much beyond that. Instead, what he would do was find his way to one of the desks, taking a seat right behind the older student who was already present. On the way to get there, he would wave at the Professor and exaggerate the climb that it took to get there. In between ostensible deep breaths, the lad would say "Good-"Breath..."Evening-"Breath..."Professor Gert-"Exasperated sigh..."Lovely...night for it..." The last comment would be made as he examined the clear view outside.
And finally, after doing the small show, he'd take his seat and wait for class to begin the session.

Aurora might’ve been small but her appetite was mighty and it was surprising what she could pack away in such a petite body. As was usually the case, her eyes were gloriously bigger than her belly and with an extremely full stomach from the hearty food of that evening’s dinner time the trek up to the Astronomy tower was even harder than usual. She had originally attempted to take the hike two steps at a time and save some energy for that final push but she quickly realised that her short legs were physically incapable of such a reach and that she would be even more tired by the time she reached the top. So the two-stepped approach was promptly scrapped in favour of running up one flight and pausing again and again until she reached her destination.
“Hi Professor!” the blonde puffed out a little worn from the expedition as she pushed the door open to the Astronomy classroom but otherwise in good spirits. Astronomy was NOT her best subject, in truth it ranked somewhere down the bottom but that wasn’t through lack of trying or effort. She just didn’t get it. It was highly unlikely that she would proceed with the subject beyond her OWLs but that wasn’t Professor Gert’s fault. In fact the fourth year thought the Professor was incredibly wise and graceful much like her Animagus counterpart.
Not really paying attention as to who was already present, the fourteen year old proceeded to find somewhere to sit before her stomach protested against exercise immediately after dinner. Thank Merlin she wouldn’t have too far to go back to her common room.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Astronomy was fascinating but sometimes Ary still found the terms, definitions and the overall science that came with the subject rather complex for his brain. He might only be a second year student but he was already contemplating whether to take the OWL exam for it or just drop the subject entirely. But of course there was still time for that decision so this wasn’t the moment he would hurt his head with that sort of thing.
Spotting the professor, the Slytherin shot her a smile and the standard greeting of a finger wiggle-wave as he went to take a seat. On his way, he passed Vera who received a friendly poke in the arm. He stopped at a free desk beside Archie. Ary sympathised because his fellow Slytherin seemed to be recovering from the climb to the Tower. Oh, he understood; he always dreaded having to trek all the way up here. “Hi, Archie.”
Now that Ary was seated, he could give the classroom his full attention; probably he would be able to figure out what the topic would be all about.

So many stairs! One would think that a seventh year like Desiree would be used to climbing loads of stairs by now, but her full stomach and the December chill made her unusually sluggish. She had to take a moment to lean against the wall outside the classroom and catch her breath, but when she entered, she was all smiles as usual.
The warming charms and pretty night sky brightened her mood. ”Hello, Professor,” she greeted with a polite smile and wave. Her bright blue eyes searched the room for the professor’s owl, but she saw no sign of him. ”No Hamish tonight?”
”Hi, everybody!” Cue more smiles and waves for the other students as Desiree took her seat. She neatly arranged her supplies in front of her and waited for the lesson to begin.

With her belly still quite full from the delicious dinner the house elves has prepared for them all, Bryony made the long trek to the Astronomy tower without any complaints at all. And mind you all, it was a whole heep load of stairs from all the way down in the Slytherin dorms. Which is where she had needed to come from because that's where all of her things were for the lesson!
Yet somehow Bry was still bouncing on her feet and overflowing with energy as she finally made it. "Hello Professor," she greeted with the brightest of smiles on her young face and some wiggle fingers to join it. "Will we be getting to see some pretty stars of plants tonight?" She really liked how the stars twinkled!
On the way to her seat (nearest to Aryan of course!) the little blonde wiggled her fingers at the others in the room. Hi everyone! Her bestie got a gentle nudge to his shoulder and a huge smile.

Maxine was ready for class. Or as ready as she could ever be. Staying up late for astronomy was difficult same days. She didn't like the dark .. no matter how old she got - she didn't like the dark. But the stars were beautiful in their own right.
Taking her seat at the desk - Maxine waiting anxiously for class to start - She didn't even see the Professor at first so she began to look around for her.

It was hardly her best subject, or even one of her favorites, but that didn’t mean Giselle wasn’t willing to give Astronomy the benefit of the doubt. Just because she hardly saw the use of the subject for anything she might have thought about looking into as a career didn’t mean there wasn’t a likely reason it was required curriculum. At least until OWLs, and there was a whole term til she needed to concern herself with those.
Therefore, it was a relatively unbothered brunette who had climbed the interminable steps to the tower, possibly a bit after the others but fashionably late and all. Not actually late, though. She respected the professor enough not to do that, and there might have been a bit of a glance toward Archie as the third year still seemed to be having trouble catching his breath. It wasn’t that bad.
“Good evening, Professor Gert”, she said after returning her gaze to the rest of the classroom and therefore the professor herself. Who was decidedly appearing human, it seemed. “The sky seems clear tonight.” There wouldn’t be any trouble seeing the stars, anyhow, which was her only intent as she chose a seat at one of the open desks. No other hidden subtext, nor did she feel it was needed.

Professor Gert bit back a chuckle at the yawn that escaped her first arrival. Ah yes, the downfall of a class that usually needed to meet late in the day. “Guid evening, Ms. Thantos,” she greeted in return before nodding at the girl’s comment. “Aye. Always more enjoyable nae to freeze when ye trying to learn.” She may be January born and love her Scottish home, but the cold could get to her.

A younger Slytherin boy was the next student to come through the door. “Guid evening, Mr. O’Brien,” Celeste echoed “Aye indeed…” she remarked as she watched him with a touch of concern with his movements and huffing and puffing as he moved to take a seat. “Are ye alright?” the professor asked, just to be on the safe side.

The Ravenclaw girl that followed seemed at least to be a bit less distressed. At least a little more cheerful about the situation after her trek up the tower stairs to the classroom. “Hullo Ms. Ackerley,” Celeste greeted as the girl took her seat, making a mental note to perhaps scutch her class timing just a bit later for comfort after dinner.

Ah, another young snake joined the mix, one definitely seemed to have faired better. At least by appearance. “Guid evening, Mr. Atreyu Rehman", she greeted with a smile of her own, always a touch bemused with the familiar gesture from the boy. Reminded her just a touch on something her youngest would do.

Though indeed it was rare that he chose to miss hanging around the classroom when he could attract beloved attention from his human’s students.

There was the other half of the Atreyu-Rehman/Paton duo. The astronomy professor had been wondering about her momentary absence since the two second years tended to be shadows of each other. “Hullo Ms Paton,” she greeted her colleague’s daughter with a smile. “Hmmm….perhaps.” Celeste wasn’t quite ready to reveal what she was teaching. Just a few more moments to wait on the last minute stragglers.

Another seventh year joined the mix, one that seemed to have decided to remain quiet at the moment. Which was just fine for Professor Gert. She quite sympathized with feeling the need to not engage all the time, having not been the most outgoing during her own years at Hogwarts. Besides paticipation mattered more when class was actually in session. Just a touch longer.

Finally the fourth year Slytherin rounded the class up. “Guid evening, Ms. Barrington,” she said, returning the girl’s greeting. “Aye…tis indeed,” Celeste confirmed. “We are quite blessed this evening.” Made the lesson she had planned much easier to get across. Not that she didn’t have contigency plans in case nature wasn’t on her side. Speaking of which…
“An’ let us begin,” she said, gathering all their attention while closing the door to the classroom with a wave of her hand. “I noticed some of ye had been looking around as if curious if ye cuid figure out what tonight’s lesson wuid be on,” Celeste remarked as she came to stand before her desk, leaning ever so slightly on her hands that rested on the desk’s surface behind her. ”But as ye can see there is nothing INSIDE th’classroom.” Well unless one considered that the telescope centered in the room was aimed at a specific location that she had placed it in earlier in the day in case it was needed.
“Outside oor classroom tis a different matter,” the astronomy matter mused as she straightened and slowly crossed to an archway opposite of the one she had stationed herself to begin with. “Fur the topic of today’s class tis right there in the night sky in one shape or form even when we can’t clearly see them. Much like the clues some of you were looking for.Celeste let her gaze pass across all the gathered students as she drifted off. “An nae not the moon.” Something made clear by her use of the plural. And she’d already taught a few things about the lunar body in question in previous lessons since coming to Hogwarts.

Curious minds alike, Bryony did happen to glance about the classroom for any possible signs of what the lesson may be about. Not finding any really wasn't surprising at all. A lot of professors were that way, even her mum and she was the CoMC professor! Sometimes she preferred it this way honestly, it helped keep her excitement level a little lower when she didn't know what to expect.
The lesson began with a question that had Bryony turning her face towards where Professor Gert had moved. She then let her gaze wander towards the night sky, bright blue eyes searching for the answer there. One form or another? They couldn't always see them clearly. It wasn't the moon. Not completely sure of the answer Bry was going to go with what she had asked earlier because it sounded simple enough to her, her hand rising to the air and waiting to be called on. "The stars?"

A small smile pursed his lips as Professor Gert asked into whether or not he was doing alright. Perhaps Archie might have exaggerated the still extraneous walk up to the tower slightly too much. In the same vein though, at least his little joke on the matter didn't truly go too overboard. While he was all for the fun and games of hyperbolic actions such as that because of the way it would garner attention, there still was the knowledge of where not to take them. For example, the raven-haired boy could have gone even a step beyond just the somewhat faked breathlessness and 'passed out'; but he knew much better than that, for that would have definitively been too much. And it still wasn't to say, what was displayed was completely fake. For there still was a genuine sluggishness after all those steps given it being so close to have finished eating dinner too. To respond though, ensuring that all was well he'd say "Yea, I'll be fine, thank you. The stairs are always just a bit harsh after a long day."
Before class had fully started, and not too long after sitting down, Archer would hear someone else greet him. Followed by the sound of whoever it was taking a seat nearby. Turning to the direction of where it came from, he saw Ary. A fellow Slytherin from a year below his own. Amused to see that the trek up didn't keep the housemate away, Archie would wave, "Hello, hello Ary. Ready for what should be a fun Astronomy lesson I hope?" The inquiry was made because truth be told, the two hadn't talked too much, so there was uncertainty in whether or not the other liked the class they were currently in. And after saying so, now looking around a bit more as people started to enter the room, another friendly wave was given to a Hufflepuff student, Desiree, as she greeted everyone that was currently there.
Shortly after it looked like everyone was there, Archie would have his attention back to the front of the classroom as the Astronomy Professor began to start the class. It was made apparent that she took note of the curiosity which was displayed by the Slytherin along with some of the others as well when she made mention of it. He'd follow along as the Professor would then proceed to further still keep what class would be about shrouded in a slight bit of mystery. Taking specific note of some of the keywords that were said, such as the phrase 'even when we can't see them' followed by the clue that it wouldn't be the moon. That would have been the bold lad's first guess, but since that wasn't even an option he'd have to resort to his imagination. With the stars already now being mentioned, he wanted to give a different answer. Even though he knew it most likely wouldn't be the case, after raising his hand, Archie would respond "Is it the planets themselves, perhaps? Sometimes, we can see those without the use of a telescope, other times, not so much." With his closing half of the statement being made because of the telescope within the very room they were all in. Granted, that was naturally a thing one would expect to see when learning about this subject. However, never hurt to take such a guess as that.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Ary had only just settled in at the desk when Desiree arrived. He gave her a grin in return, thinking about how much he was going to miss her greetings when she graduated. Then there was Bry nudging at him, and of course Ary couldn’t resist returning that smile of hers. Oh, don’t get him wrong, Archie. He wasn’t the athletic type and usually became easily winded. The only reason the second year appeared so composed is because he had taken a moment to catch his breath before entering the classroom. “You bet I am. Are you?” Archie was right about them not talking a lot but the older boy was remarkably friendly in Ary’s opinion, hence his reason for sitting next to him today.
A strong possibility that the class would be focusing on some theory of sorts this evening but since there hadn’t been any indication of such, the other possibility was that the focus would be on the skies. “Constellations,’’ Aryan suggested, hand in the air as he spoke up his guess. He glanced at Bry, grinning just a bit since he had piggybacked off of her answer. Constellations - stars - were always there, even if the earth dwellers couldn’t at times see them, tight?
Maxine had raised her hand ready to answer - but listening to the privous kids answers hers was already taken. "What they said" Maxine said gestering to the kids who said stars and constellations. She smiled toward them, wishing she had been quicker on the draw to answer.

Oh goodie…the boy was alright. It would have been a horrible start to the lesson to have to make sure he got to the hospital wing and taken care of. “Aye…tis one of the times I am most grateful for my animangus form,” she mused with a nod in comment to the Slytherin’s remark about all the stairs and long days. Being able to FLY up and down between the floors if she had to travel too far was a blessing. The astronomy professor might have been tempted to ask for more meals in her quarters if that wasn’t an option rather than go back and forth so much with her old bones.
-------------------------------------
Celeste tilted her head slightly back and forth at Ms. Paton who was the first to answer. “Aye technically so,” she admitted, “though not exactly what I was going for.” The girl’s response was more singular and the topic of the lesson was a bigger picture sort of speak. “Not this time,” she remarked with a shake of her head as the alright boy joined his housemate in speaking up. “Though planets do something make a passing appearance within what we are talking about.” But then Mr. Atreyu-Rehman put it all together and she couldn’t help but smile.
And notice the snakes seem to be the most vocal this class. Well with a Gryffindor 7th year agreeing with them.
“Aye, ye are correct, Mr. Atreyu-Rehman. Constellations are precisely what we will be learning about.” And with that she returned to her desk and the board that resided beside it, the word appearing on its dark surface with a tap of her wand. “Constellations are groupings of stars in th’night sky that always appear together. Patterns that men have put together over the centuries as they observed the heavens. Though some on the smaller side are considered more as asterisks and a part of larger true constellations.” The astronomy professor briefly paused to consider how best to avoid confusion. “Kind of like how all snakes are reptiles but not all reptiles are snakes.”
What can she say…she was inspired by the Slytherins.
“How many constellations do ye think there are? “ she questioned, moving them on to the next round. “And what de ye think most of them are said to look like?”
ooc: Sorry for the delay, had technical difficulties. Moving on in about 24 hours.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
With Bry’s and Archie’s respective answers incorrect, Ary completely expected his to be dismissed too. So imagine his surprise when Gert said he had been correct. Said surprise turned into him being pleased. It had honestly been a guess. Now, Ary knew only a little on the topic and try as he might to locate constellations, he always had a difficult time in doing so because he could never, ever figure out what pattern looked like what. Maybe this lesson would clear a great deal up for him.
On a side note, Slytherins were always great inspiration, Professor.
The second year pondered the questions before lifting a hand. “Erm… thousands? I think most of them are shaped in the form of characters from different cultures.”
Maxine didn't know if there was a specific number. "Probably hundered of them" She said thinking they probably didn't even know how many with new things be discovered every day. "And I'm sure as a human race we have not discovered them all. I wonder if the centurs know about ones we don't" The were sky watches to, and lived them so the centurs could know about ones that they didn't. "Alot of them are in the shapes of animals" She added trying to remember all of the ones that she actaully knew.

Being the talkative, silver-tongued adder that he was, Archie would whisper to the other serpent next to him; as much as he wanted to talk normally, class was now underway so he'd at least be somewhat respectful of this time. "As ready as I can be, at least." The response would be offered back to Ary's polite, mimetic gesture of his question towards the Scottish third year. Of course, the latter's response was being slightly underplayed. He was more than ready for today's course in learning about the stars and constellations. But, as much as he loved being a bit of a goof with his arrogant demeanor sometimes, the Archer just didn't feel a need to be that way towards a fellow Slytherin...at least, not at this very moment.
But, anyway, when Professor Gert began to carry on after a few moments, there was a slight glint within the snake's blue eyes as they had begun to light up a bit more upon hearing what they'd be learning about. It was much more fun to learn about constellations than planets in his opinion. The only reason he gave the answer that he did was because it was more different than the one that the first year, Bryony originally gave. Uniqueness in all forms was one of the things Archie prided himself on, so he tried to reflect such as much as possible. And such would also be the case for this upcoming answer. After being asked the question, hearing what Ary and Maxine had to say, he would raise his own hand before replying with "I think it's actually not as many as one might think. My guess would be less than a hundred, but never know." While it would be an incredible thing to hear if there were hundreds or thousands even, to be able to truly name that many felt like a bit of a stretch. "Some are even named after objects." Most aptly and famously being both the big and little dipper, along with Orion's belt. Granted, the last could be considered a character, but, it's why Archie didn't mention it and left the sentence at 'objects'.

Desiree was slightly disappointed to hear that Hamish wouldn’t be joining tonight, but she couldn’t fault the owl for being hungry. There wasn’t time to dwell on it, though. She had just enough time to return Ary’s grin before the lesson started. She listened, carefully considering the question. She thought the answer was probably stars, but there was no point in repeating it. Unable to think of anything else to say, she kept quiet for now.
Oh, constellations,,, of course! When she heard what the correct answer was, she couldn’t help but feel a little sheepish. Thank goodness she hadn’t said anything! Okay, no more mistakes! She paid careful attention as Professor Gert spoke again, writing down the definition of constellations. She finished just in time to hear the next set of questions. How many constellations were there? She had absolutely no idea! Hundreds? Thousands even?
Instead she focused on the second part of the question. Her thoughts immediately turned to a certain constellation that shared its name with a Disney character, but she didn’t think the constellation Hercules looked much like the Disney Hercules. It looked more like a funny hat... or a spider missing some of its legs. Come to think of it, there were a lot of constellations that shared names with figures from Greek mythology… Pegasus, Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Perseus. Desiree hesitantly raised her hand and said, “A lot of constellations are named after figures in Greek mythology, but I’m not sure they look much like the figures they’re named after.”
Not at all confident in that answer, she allowed her voice to trail off.

The worst thing about Astronomy was the climb to the tower. It was times like these that she wished she was in Gryffindor or Ravenclaw - at least she'd be used to the stairs. But the best thing? It was reason to be out after curfew. And she supposed Professor Gert wasn't so bad herself.
As far as the question posed by the Professor, Emma had zero clue. Did anyone really know the answers to that? "Too many ... probably. And like even if we could put a number on the constellations out there, I reckon there's more undiscovered in the vast skies." It was something that Maxine said too with regards to many of them looking like animals that gave her another thought ... "Aren't like, the signs represented by zodiac signs represented in constellation form?" But zodiac was more astrology vs astronomy, if she recalled the difference correctly.

Celeste had to admit she was glad to see Mr. Atreyu-Rehman seemed pleased that he had gotten the answer right. Even when her subject might not be someone’s cup of tea, she did enjoy witnessing when something clicked. “Ultimately there cuid be thousands when all tis said an done. We haven’t explored every inch of the skies or have th’ strongest of telescopes to catch all the farthest away stars afta all.” Perhaps she should have clarified with claimed constellations as of now but it was still a good guess. And the second part of the boy’s answer was true. “Aye…tis why sometime constellations hev more than one name asssociated wi’ it as it was spotted and documented by more than wan person from different cultures.”
Ms. Bixby was a touch closer to the present count. “Closer…” she confirmed, wondering if there would be someone who would hit the nail on the head. In all honesty with as many stars as there are in the heavens you would think there were more named and established as there were. “Aye many of them are. Though I canna say some of them actually look like said animals.” Early astronomers had some interesting concepts when they were seeing what they were seeing.
AH yes…Mr. O’Brien had the right idea. “Aye…all in all there are actually only eighty-eight named constellations,” Celeste remarked truthfully with a nod and a smile. As for their shape both he and Ms. Marchand’s additional comments were correct as well. “Aye…I’ve often wondered what some of the astronomers were thinking at the time they claimed their discoveries wi’ th’ names they were.” Ms. Montmorency’s answer leaned towards Mr. Atreyu-Rehman’s from earlier, her words echoing what she herself had mentioned about the as of yet unknown. But the shape mention was unique. “Aye indeed.” Which brought her to the next bit of information to impart as well as the next question.
Another tap on board and more words appeared including the numbers as she spoke them aloud. “As I said...there are eighty-eight official constellations to consider. Of these there are forty-two animal constellations, twenty-eight said to be shaped like various objects, fourteen humans from history, myth and legend, two chimeras which are part human/part animal, and two pieces of nature.” Ah the river and the mesa being the rather odd men out. “Roughly half of them are from the more ancient times which are the ones whose names are myth related and the others have been made official in the last two centuries or so.”
“I’m certainly not expecting ye to know all of them, but I would like each of you to name one or two that ye might know.” It would be interesting to see just what ones stuck out in each student’s mind.
OH well, she was a little of fon her number seeing as only 88 were named. Whoops, Maxine and just thought since the stars were infinte there would be more. But none the less, she took a note on the subject and raised her hand to answer the next question. "Well there is the Zodiac signs, so like Gemini, Cancer, and Leo." Maxine left it there, but she could have named all 12 of them.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Ary was having the slight difficulty of wrapping his head around the fact that there could be thousands of constellations out and about in the sky. It would take a whole lot of time studying them for sure. Yes, the naming of constellations stemming from various cultures he was lightly familiar with; the ones more common to him were Greek and Indian.
As the other students continued to given answers and Gert cleared up any that needed to, Ary made his notes. Constellations were fascinating and now he was having doubts about dropping the subject later on. Anyway. He paused in wonderment as it was revealed only eighty-eight constellations have been named. Wow. Those Astronomers needed to get a move on with naming the others. Then just like that, there was a breakdown by numbers of what the constellations were named after. These too were added to his notes.
“There’s Hydra,’’ the second year volunteered, lowering his hand after he was called upon. Had he purposely chosen that one. Yes; it was in keeping with the Snake theme.

Oh. Well she supposed that eighty-eight constellations was better than the alternative of there being THOUSANDS. Although it wasn't to say that there weren't thousands, just that they weren't official. And technically speaking eighty-eight was a lot more of a manageable number. Although still daunting to the second year, as Emma wondered if perhaps there was an easier way to remember to all the constellations.
At least the zodiac ones had cross-references so there was twelve that made it easy and since Maxine only listed three of them, that meant she could state one that hadn't been mentioned. Her own zodiac.
"There's Sagittarius as well, which encompasses the bright blue Pistol Star that's one of the brightest stars in the Milky Way...." She might have made extra sure to do her research surrounding her zodiac.

Desiree had to stifle a giggle at Professor Gert's reply. She completely agreed. How the ancient astronomers thought some of those constellations looked like mythological characters was beyond her! Maybe that was before telescopes were invented?
Only eighty eight constellations? Wow, that was less than she thought! She copied that number down in her notes, along with their name origins. Her mood brightened as she heard the next question. Ooh, she knew this one! She was just thinking about constellations that shared names with mythology. Her hand shot up. ”There's Hercules and Pegasus,” she said, going with the two that shared Disney character names.
