The Astronomy classroom was brightly lit, perhaps a little too brightly lit for nearing midnight. It seemed Kalen was trying all sorts of different ways to keep the students awake and attentive in the late hour. A cool January breeze drifted through one of the open windows of the tower, giving the room a comfortable if not slightly chilly feel. Everything looked normal enough though, the desks were arranged how they usually were, in neat rows with names on them. Assigned seating was preferred by this Professor.
There was however a small door at the back of the room that wasn’t usually there, now where could that lead to?
As for Kalen himself, he could be found leaning against his desk, ankles crossed as he waited for his students to arrive. A small smile on his face, earlier he had been disappointed by the clouds obscuring the view of the lesson tonight, but the Librarian had found a way around it and he was most pleased with himself.
Come on in and find a seat! Class will begin soon!
OOC: Welcome to the first Astronomy class! Feel free to have their assigned seat anywhere you would like. Just remember that even though this is the first Rp’d class this is not your first class with Professor Kennedy! Come on in, say Hi and we will continue on in about 24 hours.. ish! Also please keep the chatting to a minimum! Class has started! All late comers were face IC consequences, so feel free to pretend like your Charrie was here all along.

Kirk went for his last class, well, technically first class of the day with Astronomy. He was in familiar territory as he arrived, his mind was a bit more active when it normally would've winded down for the night. Perhaps the lighting had something to do with that or the occasional chill, "Hello Professor.. no spotting Venus tonight?" Kirk asked curiously. It was a bit discounting to him seeing the darkened clouds, but perhaps there were other means before taking a seat.
Kirk was relieved on the open window not being by his seat when he sat down. Until some familiar faces popped in, he gazed out the window as some time passed.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
The best thing about Astronomy was that it was held close to midnight. His father NEVER let him stay up passed 10 O'clock. He entered the classroom with a look in his blue eyes that said that he was ready to learn. "Hiya Professor" he greeted as he walked passed him to find his seat.
Finding his nametag, Dorian was a bit dissapointed that it was near the back... again...why was he always assigned that seat?!"Professor? Can i sit near the front?" he asked as he turned around. "I can do the levitation spell to move it" he kind of bragged.

Stifling a yawn, Natalie quietly walked into the Astronomy classroom, holding her robes closer around her small frame as a shiver rolled through her. She liked Astronomy and was excited for the class, but it was a shame that it had to be at night when it was even colder than daytime. Still, she was ready to learn. As long as she didn't fall asleep.
Setting her book bag down, Natalie plopped down into a chair near the Ravenclaw Prefect and greeted the Professor and the other two students with a pleasant, "Evening," before pulling her long locks of hair off to one side of her shoulder.
Talk about a early morning class, so how Juni was an early bird and a night owl was beyond her. She did manage to get a nap in after dinner. She just had a cup of hot coco before heading up to the Astronomy classroom. That should get her through the lesson and back to the common room, where she just figured she would stay up after ten the lesson tonight… this morning. Whichever it was.
She yawned as she walked into the classroom. Covering her mouth so no one would see the yawn. ”Hello, Professor Kennedy. How are you tonight? Or this morning?” She said with a laugh. Whichever one it was. She headed to her seat quietly and put her things out on her desk.

She wasn't in the least bit tired, the result of a nap taken earlier in the afternoon and the need to check in on her experiment once this class was over. Yes, the Ravenclaw was quite awake and quite aware of all the extra lights. Merlin's beard if they kept this up they wouldn't be able to see any of the stars in the sky tonight...unless they wouldn't be looking at the stars tonight. Merlin don't tell her this would be a theory lesson. She may force herself to sleep if that was the case.
"Hello Mr. Kennedy." She greeted, entering the room and heading for her assigned seat. It was as she was about to sit that she noticed the door.
Curious.
"Have you created a door to the universe? Will we walk through there and have a simulated galaxy set before us or is it just a tease?--You won't ask us to guess the lesson, will you?" That had to be the worst thing about the greater portion of the lessons she attended. They liked to think her education was a guessing game. Suffice to say she didn't appreciate it.
Naturally, Jessa expected answers, even if those answers were him saying he wouldn't be answering. In the mean time, the 15 year old sunk into her seat and began unpacking he things.

Astronomy was one of Nigel’s favorite subjects but there was a little issue: the time. It was midnight, shouldn’t he be sleeping pretty comfortable in his bed? That was ideal but instead he was walking all the way up to the Astronomy tower. All these bunch of stairs were way worse when he was half asleep, he even considered giving up and laying down on the floor but it would be weird and all the other kids will see him. So no, he continued walking till he finally made it.
The classroom certainly helped him to be more awake with the bright light but it bothered him. You can’t win. He greeted the professor with a smile “Hellooo Professor. Is it good morning or good evening?” The struggle. He then proceded to take his usual spot and wait for the class to begin. Or to fall asleep.

So was Kalen Kennedy aware of the struggles to walk up from the dungeons to one of the highest towers in the castle at this late hour? Skylar was a morning person, by far; she woke up by 6 or 7 daily just to 'go for a morning jog', and 8 or 9 on the weekends. Granted she was typically up this late anyway lately, but it was usually sprawled out on her bed, studying or gossiping with her amazing roommates.
Fortunately though, Skylar was determined to make it to Astronomy class, because she still had yet to find a way to inform Mr Kennedy of the curse. And more importantly, how she could save him from falling victim to it. Or breaking it.
"Hello Mr Kennedy," Err, yes, he'd been Astronomy professor for like four months now, but old habits die hard. Plus, maybe that was a secret to breaking the curse was to not address him by his new title. What was Jessa asking about a door? Oh, door! Now the fifth year noticed it; yes, sorry, her mind was still on her notes, in her bed, but door to the universe and simulated galaxy set? "The answer's 42." You know, about life, the universe, and everything.

Flynn loved Astronomy. It was his favorite subject here besides DADA, but the only thing he did not like about this class was the assigned seating. A load of applesauce, this was, because he always ended up sitting next to someone he did not like.
He slipped into the room and looked at the Professor. "Mister Kennedy," he greeted the man before turning his attention to the rows of desks. Okay, now to find his seat.... He noticed his name on one of the cards, but he also noticed his desk was right next to Jessa.
OH HO HO NOOOO.
He glanced at her briefly before looking over to where Skylar was sitting. Hmmmmm. Casually, he switched the name cards so that his new desk was next to his friend. *AHEM* You saw nothing, Professor Kennedy. NOTHING.
He took his seat now.

Derf was tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired and it show in his eyes. It wasn't because of the time of day (night?) but because the Hufflepuff had been spending SO much of his free time researching magical theories and objects to support his own theories about what was going on in the castle. He had also come to the conclusion that he did NOT trust the librarian one bit based on some of his reactions and such in the Restricted Section, so the third year was going to pay PARTICULAR attention in class today for any signs of something fishy.
Which came the moment he stepped into the classroom and heard Jessa ask about doors to the universe. Universe...alternate reality...upside down Hogwarts...it was all the same thing, right?
"NO!" he exclaimed, staring point blank at his friend. Because the librarian DID have a THING for making PORTALS to other areas. Like "Narnia." Suddenly the blonde's face DROPPED and it all became clear. WHY HADN'T HE SEEN IT BEFORE?! Sure, he had heard all about the poltergeist theory with the portal and such...but THIS MAN...made magical doors himself. HOW WAS THAT NOT SUSPICIOUS!? NOW THERE WAS BLOOD MAGIC AND...
....could he just leave?
He felt so many knots forming in his stomach and he really just wanted to pretend like he had never been here to begin with?
Save for the outburst just now.
Er...
Ruffling his hair, Derf tried to find his seat without making eye contact with the librarian further outside of a quiet apology. He spotted Natalie and visibly crossed his fingers that his nameplate was next to hers...which OF COURSE it wasn't. "Maybe next class?" he shrugged hopefully. He did eventually find his seat and juuuuuuuust as he slid into it.....Flynn did the one directly next to him.

Zoryn was STILL angry at Professor Kennedy for taking away those points at the beginning of the year, when she was TOTALLY not breaking any rules. She wasn't exactly giving him the silent treatment, but she was going to make his life WAY more difficult than usual. It was only fair. Karma, y'know?
She walked into the classroom and give him a DEATH GLARE before marching to her assigned seat. "Hmph," she didn't want to sit in her assigned seat, but knowing Professor K he'd probably take away points 'cause he was a BIG BUM.
Finally in her seat, the Gryffindor leaned back.
Waiting for her victim to take center stage.

The holiday break had been waaayyy too short, and Emmeline was SO not ready for a lesson that started around midnight. She trudged into the Astronomy classroom sleepily, blinking loads at the realllly, super bright light that had invaded the whole room somehow. She didn't really notice anything else weird about the classroom, 'cept she noted that there was a new door/exit at the back of the room. It was always good to have another exit, and Emmeline supposed that the Astronomy professor was following Professor Hirsch's whole constant vigilance thing. The possibility that the door led somewhere other than back into the castle never occurred to the Gryffindor; she was too tired for all that thinking and stuff.
Emmeline gave everyone she knew a biiig smile and a wave as she slid into her usual seat without paying much attention to who her neighbors were. She also greeted the professor with a quiet-ish, "Hiiiii, Professor Kennedy," as she passed his desk to get to hers.
It should totally be illegal for the other professors to give them any loads of homework when they had midnight lessons too, mhm.

Luckily for him, he had thought to bring a blanket and a mug of hot coffee to class. He didn't do well with cold. At all. And with the window opened, that's exactly what this room was.
Ronan found his seat with ease and sat, wrapping himself in his blanket and his hands around his mug. Mmm, hot coffee. Also, what was up with the side door? It wasn't smoking or banging at least, not yet. So that was a good thing. "Hello, Professor Kennedy," he greeted, taking a sip from his mug. Mmm mmm, hot coffee. How had he gone without it for so long?
Another thing he wondered was if he'd ever found that book that was missing. Because he had a pretty good idea where it was. Heh. But that wasn't something to bring up in class. Maybe afterwords.

When you somehow managed to snag a seat next to your boyfriend, despite the assigned seating, any class was a win right? Char was a happy camper as she entered the room, walking in front of Henry. Their seats were in the middle which she didn't at all mind, despite preferring the front.
"Hello professor!" It was nice being able to call Kennedy that, wasn't it? She beamed at the man and took her seat. What an amazing night! Wasn't it an amazing night? Hopefully they'd get to do some nice stargazing and she could get away with holding Henry's hand under the table.

Even though it was one of her favourite subjects, Felicity didn't appreciate the late hour that Astronomy took place. This was only because it meant she struggled even more than usual the next morning to wake up and get ready for class. The other thing she blamed was the cosiness and comfort of her bed in the dorm.
"Hi, Professor," she said with a smile, before offering a curious look at the door that was definitely new. Then she turned to the seats, and offered Skylar and Flynn a smile before sitting in her seat a few rows behind them.
That was the other thing she didn't like about Astronomy class - assigned seats. Was it too much to want to sit by her friends?

Philippa had returned from Christmas break with renewed spirits. She was obviously not going to spent her entire life playing worms in school plays and, as Papa had so cleverly pointed out, an actor needed to know how to play all sorts of characters. Even ugly, fat worms! So Philippa Selene Cassandra von Brandt, future mega huge star, was going to be the BEST worm the world had ever seen.
This had nothing to do with Astronomy per say, but she knew all about stars and stuff and didn't need to think too much about it. Dad loved Astronomy. They had a telescope and everything. She was good.
Strutting into the classroom with her chin held high, Philippa looked around for her name. She wiggled her fingers at Dorian whom she had gifts for, and Derf got another wave for she had gifts for him too, before finding her place............ next to The Ground. Aka Zoryn. Her friend ^__^ from Drama Club, and fellow school play actor.
Putting down her bag, Philippa smiled a professional, all teeth smile at the girl as she ran her hands through her hair, making sure it looked perfect. "Hullo Zoryn," she also greeted her, because she was ever gracious and didn't look down at people who were less talented than she was. That just wasn't her. ^_____^

Strangely enough, Astronomy had grown to be one of Henry's favorite classes. Not so much for the academic aspect because, quite frankly, Henry often found that to be boring, and he rarely saw much of a practical aspect like he did with Charms or Transfiguration. But he rather enjoyed stargazing with a certain someone and could appreciate those particular lessons. Plus, how lucky was he to get assigned a seat next to his girlfriend?
Since he was such an early riser to make sure he could get in his daily morning runs, Henry had taken a short nap earlier before class to make sure he was wide awake for this late night lesson. Smiling widely as he followed Charlotte into the classroom, he greeted Mr. Kennedy cheerfully. "Hello, Professor!"
Turning to head towards his seat, he noticed a door that he hadn't remembered seeing at the back of the room. He slipped into his seat, twisting his body a bit so that he was facing Char with his eyes turned towards the door. "Was that always there?" he asked her. Had he just not noticed it before?

Lucky for Felicity then that Hattie's assigned seat was right next to her! It was late, but Hattie was wide awake. The Astronomy area of the castle was her favourite, and this was one of her best subjects. So she was ready for the lesson. She'd also had a nap earlier on in the evening so that she could be nice and awake for the lesson. It was really important since she wanted to make sure she passed her owls.
"Hi Professor" She beamed as she made her way into the classroom, and went to find her assigned seat. Next to Felicity. "Hey you" She grinned as she sat down, after waving to Sky and Flynn on the way.
Hopefully Felicity wouldn't distract her too much. This hufflepuff needed to concentrate.

"I don't know, I've never noticed it before." She admitted to Henry. What could it be for? In relation to Astronomy anyways?

Etta made her way to the Astronomy classroom, feeling extremely exhausted. She only hoped class would get over soon so that she could get some much needed sleep before having to be up early for another class the next morning. Ugh.
She noticed the extra door first, wondering what that was all about before her gaze drifted towards the professor. “Hello, professor.” She greeted with a yawn. Yeah, well. ... and wait, assigned seats? Seriously? She took her designated seat, wishing she could sit with her friends. .. maybe she could take a quick nap before class started? Hm.
Being a Gothic creature of the night, this kind of lesson did not bother Kitty at all. She was by a nature a night owl - which meant it took a long time for her to fall asleep sometimes and often she would get up for a walk around the Ravenclaw dormitories. So she was wide awake and attentive as she entered the classroom, wondering what they would study.
"Goodnight Professor," she greeted Kalen cheerfully, eyes focusing first on him and then on the door. "I love how we're having this lesson at midnight. Is that a moon door?"
As a self-proclaimed night owl, Clara was always happy when classes were not held at the crack of dawn. She often found that it was almost better to just not sleep instead of sleeping so little, or at least that is what she told herself every single time she stayed up all night with unhealthy amounts of caffeine to get through those early hours. Therefore, she was wide awake as she headed to the Astronomy tower to settle in for the first class.
She saw Professor Kennedy watching the students trickle in and gave a curt nod. “Hello, Professor. Are you well?” she asked.
Looking around the room, Clara spotted some slightly familiar faces and some not-so-familiar faces. Seems about right, she thought, as she moved to her assigned seat and set down her bookbag. Every single “first” class of term managed to feel like the very first class. After quite a few years here at Hogwarts, there was something so magical about starting anew each term.

Ahh, she would be the first to notice it. ”Sadly the universe would not fit in the school, unlike Narnia.“ He said with a soft grin. ”It is not a tease, you will find out what it’s for later on in the Lesson, and no, there will be no guessing the lesson.“ At least not in his class. Not to mention they might be here all night if he asked them to do that. Nobody had time for that.

He did eventually find his seat and juuuuuuuust as he slid into it.....Flynn did the one directly next to him.
.............................
"Hi."
Kalen nearly fell off his perch as he heard someone shout the word no, and his head instantly snapped to the side to see Derf standing there looking at Jessa…
…
Okayyyyy. Kalen looked at Derf and nodded to him. ”Hello, Mr. Ashburry-Hawthorne. “ He said as he watched him slide into his seat without making much eye contact. All right,, it was shaping up to be an interesting class.

Andddd it just got more interesting..another inward sigh came from Kalen as he watched Zoryn sulk in and glare at him. ”Hello Miss Spinnet. Such a joy to see your happy face.“ He said with an eyebrow raise and a voice heavily laced with sarcasm.

Kalen smiled at the next student as she walked in and blinked sleepily. At least she wasn’t yawning, that was a plus yeah? ”Hello Miss Sparkes. “ He said with a nod as she settled in her seat.

Kalen raised an eyebrow as Ronan walked in with a blanket and a cup of coffee, was this a class or a sleepover? The room was cold for a reason, to wake everyone up. He kept his eyebrow raised as Ronan settled in a seat with his blanket. ”Comfortable, Mr.Carter?“ He asked with a slight shake of his head.

"Hello professor!" It was nice being able to call Kennedy that, wasn't it? She beamed at the man and took her seat. What an amazing night! Wasn't it an amazing night? Hopefully they'd get to do some nice stargazing and she could get away with holding Henry's hand under the table.
Finally! Someone who was happy and not yawning their head off. Kalen could appreciate that. ”Hello Miss Kettleburn. Welcome.“ He said with a friendly nod as he turned back to look at the next incoming students.

Kalen nodded as Felicity entered the room,”Hello Miss Harrington, Welcome.“ He said as he noticed her looking at the door. So many people were looking at it and he grinned to himself. He hoped they all enjoyed what was in there. He did.

It seemed like Kalen’s eyebrow was getting a workout tonight, for it rose again as Philippa walked in and didn’t say a word to him. Huh. He would remember that Miss von Brandt. ”Good evening Miss von Brandt. “ He said pointedly as he looked at her. No ignoring the teacher yeah?

Ahhh, now he knew why Miss Kettleburn was so happy, the reason had just strolled in and sat down next to her in the form of the Head Boy. ”Hello Mr.Whittebrook. “ He said as he watched the two of them for a moment, they reminded him of him and Serena when they were back in school. Ahh young love.
Ohh and door noticing, yes yes, they would find out soon enough.

Kalen nodded as Hattie walked in all smiles. Another happy student, who looked awake as well. Always good. ”Hello Miss Paton, Welcome. “ He said as she settled down. He glanced at his watch, it was almost time to start.

Yeah, well. ... and wait, assigned seats? Seriously? She took her designated seat, wishing she could sit with her friends. .. maybe she could take a quick nap before class started? Hm.
Ahh another sleepy student. Perhaps he needed to have his next class a bit earlier so not everyone was yawning their heads off and throwing off his groove. ”Hello Miss Kramer. Welcome. “ Maybe Mr Carter could share some of his coffee with the Hufflepuff prefect yeah?

So she was wide awake and attentive as she entered the classroom, wondering what they would study.
"Goodnight Professor," she greeted Kalen cheerfully, eyes focusing first on him and then on the door. "I love how we're having this lesson at midnight. Is that a moon door?"
A door that only opened at midnight, that is.
Kalen nodded at the Head Girl as she made her way into class. Another student who was alert and awake for the lesson. That was good! ”Hello Miss Valentine.“ He said with a soft chuckle at her words. ”You seem to be the only one.“ He said as he shook his head at her next words. “Not a moon door, but good guess Miss Valentine.” He said with a nod.

Kalen nodded at the next student through the door, this one seemed awake, though rather unhappy to be here if her nod was anything to go by. “Hello Miss Simelanu, I am well thanks, how about you?” He asked with a smile.
Kalen looked up at the clock and then out into the hall way, with a wave of his hand, the door shut. It was time for class to begin. he kept his relaxed position against his desk though as he started to speak.
”Thank you all for coming, and for trying to stay awake at least.” He said with a grin as he looked at the class and then out at the sky. ”Sadly, it’s cloudy tonight, so we won’t be able to use the telescopes to see what I had planned, but I’ve found a way around that, which you will see later.” He said as he motioned to the mysterious door behind them all. “And no it’s not a portal to Narnia or to some alternate universe or anything like that.” He said with a reassuring look over the class.
”But for now! Let’s start with something light to ease us into class, I know it’s late and everyone is recently back from break. So, first question. What is your favorite constellation? Or star? Either way. Just raise your hand and tell me. “ Kalen said with a smile. That should be pretty simple to start out with yeah?
OOC:Hello all and thank you for coming! The question is simple “What is your favorite constellation and or star!“ We will be moving on in about 36 hours.. ish! Thanks!!

Shay stifled a yawn. It had been a long day and she was trying to get her second.....no third wind. When the professor began to speak, she sat up in her chair and tried to pay close attention. Shay was regretting not having that cup of tea before class. Blinking several times, she grabbed her quill and prepared to take notes. Thank goodness the room was cool, otherwise, she would have had even more trouble staying alert.
Shay didn't have too much time to think about being sleepy because class was starting and she didn't want to miss anything. When the professor mentioned the mysterious door, the Gryffindor was intrigued. Now what could possibly be behind it? She'd have to wait to find out. For now, the first question was on the table. Favorite constellation. Yeah, Shay had one. For no particular reason, she did have a favorite constellation. Thank goodness the professor didn't ask why because she had no rational answer to that question. Shay raised her hand and when it was her turn, she shared her answer. "My favorite constellation is Orion." No details.......just the fact.

Favorite constellation? OOH Scarlett hoped they'd be learning about mythology! That was her FAVORITE part of astronomy - even though it wasn't TECHNICALLY a huge part of it. Maybe Kennedy would do that thing that some of the professors had done in the past, where they turned the Astronomy tower into a planetarium, because she LOVED that.
She raised her hand. "I think my favorite constellation is Orion. Mainly because it's the easiest for me to find in the night sky," she explained with a grin. She could pinpoint that one no matter what time of night, or time of year, it was.
