While Hogwarts' firsties are heading for the school via the "firstie" boats, the rest of the students will be taking the usual carriages back to the school.
These are the same carriages that have been used for years and years. They are round, black, and seat about four students. They also appear to move along on their own, with an invisible something inside the harnesses...
Puck made her way over to the carriages and stood there, awkwardly for a moment. This was only her second term heading to the school really but she was a…a prefect now. It was still shocking and bewildering really, not to mention the fact that she had to help people right? Like the second years get to their carriages and to the school…and then everyone to the dorms right? Okay so she was really nervous.
"Carriages this way" she squeaked out quietly...oh if any of the other Prefects or her friends saw her this way they wouldn't believe it...Empress Puck was not Empress like...she was a joker a jester, the...fool.

The prefects compartment was near the front of the train, so they were able to hop off pretty fast, which was nice. Caleb was supposed to like...help kids find things right?
Ok Newell...don't let ANYONE know that you have NO clue what you're doing...
He heard someone yelling nearby - well, yelling wasn't really quite the word, more like...talking slightly differently than normal. He grinned and walked up to Puck, who looked just as frazzled as he felt. But because he was Caleb, he could hide it behind his confidence.
"Here, lemme show you how to do it," he told her with a joking grin. He hopped on a nearby cart and stood on the step so he was somewhat elevated over the ground. "Second to seventh years, carriages this way!" he called. There, job done! Now everyone just had to be not be stupid and follow his commanding voice!
With that, he sat down in the carriage and let out a deep sigh. Woot! One prefect duty down! That hadn't been so bad, yeah?
Now that he'd gotten his big prefect moment out of the way, he leaned out of the carriage to Puck. "So...you have any idea what you're doing? Or am I the only one without a clue?" he asked quietly with a grin. Of course his fellow badgey people could know about his insecurities, because they probably all had them too.

IT WAS TIME FOR SCHOOL!!!!!!!!
Well, it was time for school the moment he bored the train but it seemed more real now that robes were on and they were on their way to the carriages. Kyroh hadn't seen Maddie or Dima or Dot on the train but that was alright considering he'd be sure to see them at the feast.
Quickly hurring along he almost jumped back as a LOUD voice announced where the carriages where?
Hmmmm.....He knew that guy! With a grin the third year made his way onto the carriage with the guy and- oh a girl! "I don't know why you're telling us where the carriages are. We kind of have eyes." Did the Slytherin know?? Maybe HE didn't have eyes to tell?

“Well…you did a good job pretending there” she grinned, “and no, no clue” she laughed before hoisting herself into the carriage…why not have two prefects in one carriage there weren’t many to begin with after all? “What I’m psyched about is the fact we can basically take baths or swim in the old prefects bath” she grinned widely and then she saw and heard a little third year…at least it wasn’t a first year.
Puck smirked at the little Ravenclaw – she liked this kid already…Kyroh wasn’t it? “oh…practice of course for the yelling of FIRST YEARS THIS WAY” she grinned to the kid smirking all the while.

Oh. A child. Well, a third or fourth year - Caleb wasn't sure but he knew he'd seen the kid around before, so he was definitely older than first year. Did he not realize that not EVERYONE was a Ravenclaw and super dooper smart? Sigh. So egotistical.
"It's official prefect business, man, you wouldn't understand," he told the kid, flashing him a joking smile. But really though, he was pretty sure one of his jobs was to make sure everyone made it to the castle safe and sound.

"I just kind of...went with what I saw Ethan do last year," he explained with a shrug. There it was again - the topic of Ethan. Seriously, where WAS the dude? He had to ask Cutty if he ran into him later. He was his cousin, after all.
"Ugh, baths are nasty. Swimming in your own filth," he muttered, shuddering a bit. But the swimming...Caleb could get behind that. "As long as a ghost doesn't spy on us, I'll enjoy doing some laps in there," he said with a smile. He had heard of some of the girl ghosts spying on prefects in there...creeeeeepy. Just creeeeepy.

Kyroh looked from them both the girl to the boy. Official Prefect.....his eyes instantly fell on their robes and a sudden wave of nausea took over. His hand quickly rushed to tap his left pocket hoping that they wouldn't notice any movement. Prefects made sure that everyone abided by the rules and stuff. Which meant that they'd probably tell the Headmistress if there were...certain pets that should not be in the school.....
WHICH mean that he might as well make friends with them because uh...then he wouldn't get in trouble? Kyroh flashed a smile at both prefects but focused his attention on the boy. "Course I wouldn't understand. I mean I guess practice makes sense but wouldn't it make more sense just to use a Amplifying Charm so you didn't strain your voice and EVERYONE could hear you, not just the people at the front?"
That sorta made sense to him.
Wait-Ethan!? "Ethan is the best prefect ever! Er-I guess...was." Cause this guy was a Slytherin......he replaced Ethan??
.....

Puck glanced at Caleb and raised her eyebrow. He managed to make them being awkward sound…official which was so weird really. “Yep…official business” she chuckled and sent Kyroh a little wink.
“Yep, we’ve got to lead them” she grinned and smirked some more. “Ethan pointed out the obvious like I was?” She asked shocked and bewildered by that. She hadn’t been paying attention to anyone last year as it was basically as if it was only her second year this term.
“Oh the ghosts?” She laughed, “yeah hearing Myrtle giggle at you would be very hilarious” she laughed and rolled her eyes. Oh…Kyroh, she grinned. She did spot the movement and gave Kyroh a little smile and a wink. “I miss my pet hedgehog I wish he was with me…like in my trunk in a carrier” she expressed her emotions and sighed…but really it could have been there maybe?
“Yeah…amplifying charms probably could help” she grinned over to him. “Well…maybe we could conjure one somewhere in the school? A giant bath in the dorm rooms?” She asked grinning. “You don’t have to use a bath to bathe Caleb…you can use it to float in warm water….or give Cruppies baths” she grinned.

It felt so surreal to FINALLY at long last be at Hogwarts. Tia stepped timidly off the train, but yet she was feeling SO ready. The question was - did she take the first year boats or the carriages? Because technically this was her first year at Hogwarts and she did have yet to get sorted, considering her plain black robes. But she was definitely NOT eleven thank you very much, which was why she decided to step towards the carriages. Which probably arrived at the castle first so they can see all the little ones getting sorted... which meant maybe the older transfer kids can get sorted first, yes? Totally made sense.
She tilted her head at the loud commotion coming from two apparent prefects and a younger Ravenclaw boy, but shrugged and pulled herself up into one of the empty carriages to wait.

Zahra rubbed at her eyes as she stumbled down the path towards the carriages. As far as naps went, the one from London to Hogwarts was preeeeeeeeeeetty epic. Sure she had crazy hair, a drool stain on her cheek, and lines on her face from hard sleep - but she was RESTED and ready for some feasting.
Oh HEY a GABE. Zahra grabbed up his arm. "Hey STUD! Ride with me."

Rorie followed after Puck, just happy to be off that horrible, mechanized, steam powered contraption. She wasn't sure whether she should be going with Puck this way or not, but there was no way she was going to separate herself from her now. Ugh, where was Damien or Mari??? They were suppose to do their job of keeping her sane!
She trailed behind her prefect friend and the other two, listening to them bicker, all the while looking around at the scenery and the people. Looking ahead, she spotted the carriages, some students already in them. Whoa, those were some crazy looking horses. Not sure whether she knew their name. Must've been on a test she didn't study for, whoops. Can she pet them?

After the train arrived in Hogsmeade, Gabe had been quick to escape; the cramped space and uncomfortable compartment nearly suffocating him. He hadn't even pinned the badge on yet...but people had assumed correctly...as they usually did.
Even now, as he hung back...waiting for CB, his heart raced. They were meant to help people into the carriages, yes?
How was he meant to help anyone when all he wanted to do was RUN AWAY and hide?

Okay, carriage time. Here's where things got really interesting. The time that most of the elbowing, shoveing and awkwardness happened and, if you played your cards right, you didn't get stuck with someone you really disliked.
And if you were Heather, you found out who could've possibly ended up with the prefect badge instead of you. As she was right now. Experiencing a moment of 'oh hells no'. Because, seriously, Puck? Last year's experience with the book had to have affected Flamsteed's brain. Heather came to a complete stop in front of the two prefects there and lowered her sunglasses to make sure she was seeing things right. Yep, that was definitely the prefect's badge on the fellow fifth year's chest. "So, who did you have to curse to get that?" she asked, an eyebrow raised.

He had wanted to go on the boats again... but he'd been there and done that.
Being a second year, was cool, and not so cool at the same time, but alas he'd give this whole carriage thing a go, even if the horse things were kinda creepy. They were definitely ugly, but maybe they were ugly COOL? Like, trendy? Who knew?
As he was about to climb into one of the empty carriages, he paused, and instead just continued looking at the horse thing. It had wings!!!!! Could it fly? Or was it the penguin of the winged-horse world? WHAT were these things???
Zeke was STUCK. Stuck STARING and stuff. He was in no hurry to move.

Zhenya was just about to hop on the carriage to go up to the castle, when she saw Zeke. He was just… standing and staring at the Thestrals. "Hiya Zeke, you okay?" she asked, approaching him from the front, just in case she scared him. Hopefully he hadn't… been hexed or something. She looked around anyway, just in case there was someone standing there with a wand, pointed their way. Nope, no one was there.

IT HAD WHITE EYES!!!!!!... and it was VERY BONEY. Did it eat? What did it eat? Did it have enough? Was it sick? Were these horses diseased? Were they safe? Could he ride one? Would it let him? SOOOOOOO many questions were floating around in his head, but none of them made their way to his lips. Or at least, not until Zhenya arrived.
He was aware of her approach, even if he was still mesmerised by the unusual beast.
"Hey," he greeted shortly, his hazel eyes trailing from the beast to the very prettySlytherin. "I'm okay," he assured her, "but, WHAT are those things?" Cause he had to know. They were SO WEIRDDDDDD.

Stepping off the train Hady watched the first years walk towards the boat before her gaze swept over to the carriages. She knew that was where she was supposed to go, her father having told her many many times before.
Shifting her cat in her arms she ran a hand gently over his head. Making her way towards the carriages her eyes found the horses pulling them instantly. Father had told her of them too. Hearing about them and seeing them though is very different! A quick look of surprised flashed across her eyes before it was replaced by a calm look. There was noway she was going to act all crazy about it.

Zhenya smiled sadly at him. It wasn't that often that she actually thought about them, really. Only when someone mentioned them. Of course she could see them, but due to this fact she often overlooked the fact that not everyone could. Until someone did something like speak of them, or… stare at them. And the reason why wasn't too pleasant. She hoped it didn't haunt the young Gryffindor. "They're…. they're called Thestrals," she said to him, then looked towards the beast, still not knowing much about them. She did know they wouldn't hurt them, though. What else could she say without bringing up the death bit? She didn't want to pry, so she waited to see if he would ask about them. Maybe he had heard of them before?

SQUINT. Gabe DID care...when it was warranted. Just...some of the situations that his peers found themselves in...were self-induced. He did this to himself quite a bit, too....So, he felt he could fairly judge that, thank you very much.
"Isn't that what.....P-prefects are...meant to do? Help the, uh..." GESTURE! It was all....COVERT whispered, too, because he didn't need everyone hearing him. Gabe wasn't stupid...Just ill informed.

Thestrals huh?
"Coooooooool." They were like, a THING. Which meant, he could like do research and stuff to know more - not that he was about to go all Ravenclaw on this thing. He just wanted to know if they could fly, and what they ate, and if they were pets.
Of course, it struck him then that Zhenya knew what they were, SHE could answer his questions. "Can they actually fly? Or are their wings useless? What do they eat? Do they eat at all?" he asked rapid-fire. SO many questions, just HOW was he going to get through them all?
Then there was the whole matter of actually getting up to the castle, they couldn't very well dawdle and miss the feast, there was food to be had!
"You wanna... ride with me?" he asked, shuffling his feet, a small grin in place.

She looked around anyway, just in case there was someone standing there with a wand, pointed their way. Nope, no one was there.

Tia had been resting her eyes thinking about the sorting as she heard two people outside her carriage. She listened for a moment before poking her head out to see a young boy wearing Gryffindor robes with a tall dark haired girl wearing Slytherin robes. They hadn't moved yet and those two were just standing there gawking at the invisible horses that pulled the carriages and she was hungry.
"You two gonna just stand out there all day or you can come in if you want?" Really, she didn't bite and she did have an all empty carriage, save for her. After a pause, she decided to answer a question she had overheard the smaller one asking about the invisible horses (because he didn't read Hogwarts, A History obviously), and leaned back out. "And yes they do fly, but you can only see them if you've seen someone die," she added on quietly. If that didn't get him in, she didn't know what might.

Not today. Today she'd be calm and cool.
Nope, still excited! She was going back to Hogwarts and that was sooo cool! She was no longer a first year who rode the boat and got sorted, Ophelia was officially a second year who went in the super cool carriage and got to WATCH people get sorted. And now it was like going back to a home instead of visiting a friend's house for the first time.
STARING. Her wide blue-grey eyes were staring at everything. Yes, the blonde knew she looked like a total dork, but that changed nothing Because the twelve year old knew she was a dork, and she heard it all of the time as a kid anyway. So the small girl had accepted her dorkism. But still, awesome carriage.
Why was magical stuff still exciting her? Her older sisters that were of age were allowed to use magic, so it wasn't like the kid never grew up with magic stuff happening around the house. You would think the curly haired girl would be used to it by now. However, things here still surprised her.
In fact, Ophelia was SO interested in the carriage that she MIGHT have bumped into the person in front of her, holding a cat. Ooops.
"Sorry! Was completely not watching where I was going!" This was good time for conversation, right? "I'm Ophelia by the way. And I've been bumping into people a lot lately."

Zhenya smiled at Zeke, glad he thought they were cool and not scary. She nodded her head, "Yep, people can get on them and fly. You know, Harry Potter and some of his friends used them to fly to the Ministry of Magic once. They do eat…" she thought briefly, "I think they like raw meat. I'm not too sure though. Maybe we can look in the library!" It was bad, an unanswered question. She wanted to know now, too.
She was just standing there thinking about what they ate, when Zeke asked if she wanted to ride in the carriage with him. She smiled at him and said "Sure, of course!"

Zhenya was almost startled by the voice of a third person. She looked up to see another girl already on the carriage. Oops, she didn't realise she was there. Feeling a tad rude, she added a quick smile and said "Sure, thanks," and waited for Zeke, who was closer than she was, to climb in before her. She didn't want to stand out there, no way. She wanted food. And then sleep in her, yes HER, bed.
And then the girl mentioned the death thing…damn. Ooh well, she hoped Zeke wouldn't feel the need to spill his story if he didn't want to. She sometimes even got a bit teary when she spoke of her grandparents. Sometimes…
But quickly, she looked back at the girl and said "Hi, by the way. I'm Zhenya," cheerfully. Yay, another new person to talk to!

There were many reasons why he liked Zhenya. Aside from being pretty and cool and not teasing him about the potions incident of last year... she answered his questions, or at least, most of them, as best as she could. But as awesome as Zhenya was, thestrals sounded SUPER AMAZING. He COULD ride on them AND fly on them!!! The Harry Potter thing rang a bell, kinda, he might have glossed over it in one of his textbooks.
Considering though that all the horses he knew ate grasses and stuff, meat seemed VERY weird, which was fitting for the beasts. "Awesome, and yeah, yeah, we should research... together." Meaning, she could research, and he could watch/help her. Seemed legit to him. AND she said she'd ride with him, that was cooooooool, which made him cool too, right?
"Sweet," he replied, only, he couldn't get anything more into their conversation when another voice piped up. Who? What? Huhhhh?
"Oh yeah, cool, thanks," he mused. Standing back, Zeke gestured for Zhenya to hop in first, cause... that was the right thing to do, right? Ladies first and all that jazz? However, he wasn't able to say as much because the next thing he knew, his eyebrows were disappearing into his fringe. Say what now? "Seen someone die?" he repeated, processing this information.
Eventually he regained the ability to move and speak and he climbed into the carriage with new-found energy. "I'm Zeke, hi," he added after Zhenya's self-introduction. New girl, or at least she was new to him. "So, how does that work? The seeing people die and seeing thestrals thing?" HOW WAS THAT A THING?!
