Behind tall, stone walls with open windows, is the corridor to the courtyard. The pathway forms a square shape around the courtyard, with various entrances at each center.
This is not a playground. Students are asked to refrain from running to prevent injuries.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Well this was a sight to see for anyone who bothered to know Aegis Dane. He was sitting in the sunlight of one of the Open Windows that faced the Courtyard reading a book. Upon further inspection though you'll see it was just the Official's Guide to Quopot Rulebook which he had read once fully through, and had since then skimmed the pages dozens of times. It might be the only book Aegis even cared enough about to read. His face burried deep into it's pages only to peer up every so often when someone passed him by...If it happened to be a pretty girl the Book waited for the Girl to turn the Corner.

It was unintentional...but Gabriel had been observing the Gryffindor's behavior from his own corridor window; amused that they'd seemed to have like ideas about their usage. Of course, he'd been glancing between him and his Runes textbook...but still. It counted as 'observation', all the same.
See, Gabe had somehow befriended mostly Gryffindors during his time at Hogwarts...and he was starting to develop a complex about it. Was he really such a coward that he'd depend on his Lion friends to protect his behind? Surely, not.........much?
Either way, he continued to do the Ravenclaw bit and WATCHED.

Aegis felt content with where he was at with his Babe Watching Reading. So he shut his book and hopped down from his spot at the Window. He shoved his Book into his napsack and continued down just two pillars in the Corridor when he spotted a familiar face. Rather familiar since he was all up in it during the Feast before he laid back and watched the fiasco there unfold. "Oh Hey!" Aegis said in a beamy voice. "I don't believe we finished our Business from Earlier." Yup, how lucky he was to run into this Ravenclaw Prefect. So Aegis jumped up onto the corridor window and sat with his back facing the wall looking directly at the Four-Eyed Wand Catcher.

ACK! STRANGE DANGER!
Backing away significantly from the previously observed Gryffindor, Gabe gave him the SQUINTY EYES. One did not simply invade someone elses space without warning...and Gabe had difficulties, anyway...with new people.
........"What business?" His tone was skeptical.

Oh Come on!! he was practical one legs length away from the guy...what was with that look? Right anyways to business. Aegis quickly readjusted his position so that he was sitting cross-legged while his hands rested behind his head. "I asked you if you know of this Curly Haired, Freckled face Kid that's under your protection, or care, whatever it is you all do with those Badges." he took one hand from behind his Head and pointed to the badge adorned to his Robes. "It was a little more important on the night of the feast, but I just can't let him slip by me anymore than he already has."
With a face like Curley's how could he not be seen?

Kyroh Scabior. Yes, Gabriel remembered. And no, he still wasn't giving him up to this Gryffindor person. If it had been someone NOT Ravenclaw...Well, maybe he'd have offered the name and then, proceeded on with his day...but Kyroh was Kyroh...AND his responsibility now. Scary. It was scary.
So, an inquiry had to be made first.
It helped that Gabe could relax...just a little...at the leg crossing. "....Why?" Yep. Why.

Prefect of little words here...Hello? You can talk more. Aegis squished his face into something of a distasteful look. Like he was sucking on a lemon, and glaring at the Ravenclaw Prefect. "It's imperative that he knows that I'm truthfully born on September 1st. So that he doesn't question my right to cut in lines like at a Food Trolley"
Doesn't this guy have Birthday Rights too?
"Right so now you can tell me where he's at." Aegis nodded. Yup, not a Lying Lion...at this moment...right now...here...

The Gryffindor earned himself a judgmental look for THAT. All this...over FOOD? What was it with Lions and food? "Just because it was your birthday...doesn't make you more important than other people." His sister, Ruby, did this same thing...Mhm. She'd get this...'It's my birthday, so you HAVE to...' way about her. Ridiculous, if you asked him.
"You'll see him in lessons."....which basically meant, you can talk to him there, where adults are around and you can't physically do anything.

Oooh so when he had to disagree with Aegis he spoke more than two words? SO LAME! Aegis didn't need this, he knew his Birthday Rights. Ravenclaw here probably has had horrible birthdays then. "Excuse me, Prefect. But it's not about being important anymore, it was, but now it's not. My Birthday's past now I just want to show him I was right." Being right over someone who didn't believe you is a GREAT feeling. "Oh BOO, no that's Lame. What kind of Prefect are you?" Aegis spoke rather rudely. "Aren't you supposed to help a Fellow student in need?"
Come on give him so Juicy info!

Gabe really didn't like the way this person was speaking to him. What was it about the testosterone at this school? You didn't see him stomping around, huffing and puffing, demanding answers from people that just didn't care.
It was true, too. Gabe didn't care.
"You're excused."...and that was all he was going to say.
....Now, back to his Runes book. He refused to be bullied by this Gryffindor.

Huh?... oh Did he Toot his Rear Horn?! Aegis side eyed himself and quickly fanned his hand to disperse the smell away from him. "Sorry."
Hmmm...wait no he didn't Fart!
"Excuse me for what?"
"You haven't answered my Question." Aegis glared at him. "and don't pretend I passed Gas. That's just weird." Seriously just tell him some places he might find Curly!? He's got a favorite place? A secret place? Name one!?!

PAGE. FLIP.
Gabe even turned away from the Gryffindor person, focusing on the written words. He wasn't assisting the crude boy in whatever he was trying to do......Gabe didn't give a fig if it had been his birthday or not. It was past the point now. Unimportant.
PAGE. FLIP. again.

No, it wasn't a playground. Amur knew that, of course she knew that. There were no swings or monkey-bars or any such thing. The cat she was stalking, however, begged to differ. It weaved its way around stone pillars, slinked up and down from ledges and climbed and crawled just about everywhere and anywhere it could get to.
Which meant that Amur did too.
Of course she did. Why wouldn't she? She was supposed to get a reading from the cat, but it wouldn't hold still long enough to even so much as bat a paw or flick an ear. And there was nothing on page 97 or 98 that said anything about a cat eluding you. So, she was determined to keep it within her sights. Anything that it did would be good enough at this point. Absolutely, anything.
As frustrated as she was getting with the never-ending chase, she was in truth, starting to have fun. As much as she had promised her grandparents she would behave and obey the Hogwartian rules, she was rather enjoying the little bit of rebellious freedom in climbing all over the courtyard structures.
But it was for homework, you see? So really, could she get in trouble when it was all in the name of a race for house points, and her graduation. At the moment, she didn't think so. And neither did Mr. Move-a-Lot.

LALALALALA LALALALA, Cassie was singing to herself, rather loudly, as she walked through the castle. Not really having anywhere to go at that moment, she decided to take a walk outside and get some fresh air. With her two furbabies snuggled in their kitty jackets and nice and comfy in her kitty purse she headed out towards the corridor.
Seeing another feline friend she smiled as she watched it for a moment feeling a happy vibe coming from it. How nice it was to see the cats of Hogwarts so happy. They were all so cute, though she knew she'd have to round up the ones she borrowed for the lesson and take them back to their home soon. Her friend would be wanting to get them back to adoption events so they could all find their forever home.
That's when she saw a little person following the cat. OHMYGOSH!!! Cassie was seeing first hand one of her students doing homework and it was just soooo exciting!

*snaps*
"Isn't reading cats just soooo much fun!"
She heard the singing, heard the person approaching, but she didn't have the time to divert her attention from Mr. Move-a-Lot to see who it was that was coming down the corridor. The cat required her full, undivided attention.
Clambering on top of one of the ledges between two columns, on hands and knees, Amur planted her hands on the edge and leaned her full weight forward to peer over its side and down its length, watching the cat prance away beside it.
Fun? Amur let out a harrumph. "Not really. They hardly sit still long enough to be able to tell anything. And then there's the difficulty in actually reading them if they do stop long enough." She pulled herself up straight, dusting off her hands as she started to turn around to face the person who had spoken. "And even then I'm starting to wonder if they even do want to tell us any---"
Her words caught in her throat as the familiar face of Professor Morgan came front and center in her vision. The wide-deer eyes were next, quickly followed by a rush of heat to her cheeks that could have made the muggle Rudolph's nose blush in embarrassment. Amur shrunk a little, debating slithering off the back end of the wall and making a run for it.
She had thought it would have been another student, a Professor at worst. She had never thought that her Divination professor would show up. With the assignment and the cats wandering about, though, she was quickly realizing that she should have.
Her mouth worked but no words came out. Only a strange noise that sounded like a mixture between an 'eerrrm' and a pathetic squeak.

She continued to watch as Amur, her green eyes turning as the first year began to speak. She smiled a little knowing how frustrating cats behaviors could be. They were curious things so never did they want to sit still. Something always distracted them, though Cassie could easily relate. She was easily distracted and curious about things.
Like right now she was curiously watching and listening until the younger child stopped and turned around. She tilted her head, "Well go on what were you going to say?" Giggling a bit knowing she thought she was going to be in trouble or something, but Cassie knew better. She knew everyone had their own thoughts and actions and just because she was the Divi professor didn't mean she wouldn't listen to others.
"Being a beginning at Divination can be frustrating at times, but the more you do it, the easier it will be." She watched as the cat seemed to find a place to stop and she nudged her head towards it. "You have been very patient watching and following, I wouldn't want you to miss the opportunity just because I'm here."

Amur decided right then and there, that this was one of the Horror Professors her father had told her about. The ones that wore sweet smiles, wielded patient hands and excellent timing. The ones that encouraged a mess-up so they could deliver swift rectification upon it. Her father had told her Hogwarts was chalk full of them, but until now, she hadn't really believed him.
Her head shrunk between her shoulders as her eyes skipped this way and that for something to hold onto. She wanted to disappear down into the depths of her robes. What was she going to say? She chewed at her bottom lip. Honesty was the best policy. Except that now she was beginning to question that too.
She struggled to find the most appropriate way to word her thoughts, that would cause the least amount of trouble for her. Nothing she came up with worked properly, and she resigned herself to the blatant truth. She opened her mouth, and quickly clamped it shut, blinking at the Professor as she...sympathized with her?
Amur's eyes went from the cat to the Professor and back again, her conclusion quickly altering. This lady didn't seem to be a gargoyle in disguise, but .... genuine? Amur hesitated on making any move, to read the cat or to answer the question. She knew she would have to do one or the other.
Her frustration left her in a huff. Professor Morgan seemed trustworthy, seemed legit. She was going to go with that, despite what her father would say. "I just don't think they want to tell us anything. They're so aloof and independent. Why would they care to tell us about the future?"
She glanced at the Professor, wondering if she was digging herself an early expulsion from her class. Folding her legs under her, she sat on the ledge and watched the creature as she pulled out her notebook. Her quill came up, hovered and then dropped, everything spilling out of her like a sink unplugged. "I mean...why can't he just be washing his face because he wants to wash his face? Or turning about because he's uncomfortable? Or batting an ear because he's itchy? Does it have to mean something? Isn't there something dangerous in constantly looking for things to tell you about the future? And then there's the issue that people can read that any way they want. Interpret it any way they want. One person could think stormy weather is related to weather, and another could think it's emotional turmoil and another could think it means bad traffic!" Thanks dad. "And then there's the issue of multiple readings combined. HOW are you even supposed to do such a thing? Not to mention the chance of error, or people reading into it again? And what about expectations? What happens if a cat makes you think that something really, REALLY good is going to happen and then something really, REALLY bad happens. You'd hate cats forever!"
Amur huffed. Issues with divination. She had them.
Blinking, Amur realized she had just gone on a tirade about divination to THEE divination professor. Her eyes went wide again and her fingers pressed her lips together as she blinked at the woman. "Sorry."

Why did the first year seem so nervous, had Cassie misread what she was doing? Maybe she was doing something completely different then trying to observe the cat. Now she wasn’t sure if she had interrupted something else. Thinking this over her focus moved back once Amur started talking.
“Well that is a very good question. See the way Divination works, some of them don’t even realize they are telling us. It’s just their instincts. Like birds for example, if you see them all on the ground. They aren’t really trying to talk to you, but you can be sure a storm is coming and that’s why they aren’t in the air. So knowing their instincts makes them the best fortune tellers, especially about the weather. “ Was she making sense? She hoped she was at least. She really didn’t want to confuse Amur even more. Looking towards the cat as he sat down she pointed, “Like right now, he’s very aware we are here, but is going on about his business and his business is part instinct which is a key for the fortune.”
Chuckling as she started asking more questions Cassie snapped a bit, “Yes you are right. They are just scratching an ear or bathing themselves. I won’t argue with that, but there is meaning behind it. Maybe it’s getting colder so they have to do a certain thing to prepare, rain is coming so they change their behavior. They sense someone coming to the door so they turn their heads. It is just their way of doing things, but if we are in tune with those behaviors then we will be able to know why they are doing it and what to expect to come our way.” Divination was just so fun if you really paid attention. “Well when it comes to people’s interpretation, it’s a little more black and white with the cats. The book shows you what it means. You can’t just say hey it’s scratching it’s ear that means money is coming my way, no you have to look up the meanings and that will tell you so it’s the same for everyone.”
Smiling bigger at her student, “Though you bring up a very valid point and many would argue on your side. Divination is many interpretations and you have to decide what is true and what is false. Well I’d be thankful for the cat’s warning, not hate it.” Snapping with excitement over their fantastic discussion she couldn’t believe how great this was. “I’m very impressed by your questioning as a first year. It’s a very good skill to have. Two points for such an honest and true effort.” She loved giving out points for people working so hard.
Amur blinked and slowly lowered her hand from her mouth. The Professor wasn't mad? Wasn't upset that she had just went on a tirade about everything she didn't understand about divination? It was confirmed then. She definitely wasn't a gargoyle. No. She was very, very nice.
And Amur listened. And listened intently. One, because the Professor was being nice enough to explain things outside of class time, and two because she really did want to know and understand. Divination was part of magic, and given she was a part of magic, she felt that if she didn't understand at least some of it she wouldn't fully be a part of what made her, her. Somehow, in her little mind, that made sense.
Her nose wrinkled as she processed what Professor Morgan said. "So...it's more of reading their instinct, which is trigged by changes in their environment. Because they are so sensitive. And because they are so sensitive, its almost like reading things before they happen?" Her eyes went to the Professor, genuinely curious. "So, then...is divination reading the future, or just being really observant of changes around you?"
And there was an even bigger problem. "How do you decide what is true and what is false, consistently?" How did the writers of the textbook figure out what each cat movement meant for 100% sure? Trial and error?
She blushed a little at the awardence of points. She hadn't been expecting that at all. In fact, she had been expecting the exact opposite. She rubbed the palm of her hands on her knees. "Thank you, Professor Morgan." She bobbed her head a little. "My mom says I get it from my dad...the curiosity that is. He is a reporter." Enough said.
And speaking of curiosity, it took a slight turn. "Can I ask why...you do the snapping thing? I like it, but I've just never seen anyone else do it before."

Cassie stood watching Amur wondering if she confused her more or if she indeed helped her. Starting to begin worrying it was the first she was about to see if she wanted to go to the tower for a little mini lesson, but the girl then seemed to speak. “For animals yes in a way. Animal instinct is very in tune with the world. So their instinct is like their inner eye awake all the time.” That was the best way for her to describe their abilities. [b] “With cats or any animal it is certainly reading before they happen.
“Oh gosh no, Divination is many things. It is seeing the inner eye open up and tell you of past and present, it is the understanding of being observant for the signs around you, it is helping guide you on the correct paths. Divination is not just to tell the future nor is it just to be observant.” She listened to her next question and smiled, “You know if you like to read. I can show you were many books about Divination are in the library. Not that I don’t like to talk. I enjoy this subject very much.” She beamed and snapped a bit, this was exciting, she loved the questions. “Well many people in my field have studied things. Divinaton has been around for as long as anyone can go back. Even in muggle history people looked to Divination for answers. So there is plenty of research as well as people like me that have the seer gifts.” Her gift was just a little different than most seers.
“You are very welcome, but you earned them for being so eager to learn.” She knew many loved to learn and it was just so exciting to see!! She gave more snaps for her excitement. “Ooooh a reporter, where does he work? Maybe I’ve read some things.” She knew many muggle and wizarding magazines and papers, so she might have especially if it was gossip columns.
She was asking about her snapping, which made Cassie laugh and snap more. “Clapping is such a forced sound, Hitting both hands together is just not natural to me, though I do it at times. I much rather snap my fingers to be positive. We all need positive in our lives, so snapping is just showing that you are doing a good job or that you've done a good job.” She loved her snaps and over time it was just accepted by all.

Animal instinct was like the inner eye open all the time. Okay, she got that. That got a firm, solid nod. That made sense. Check.
The explanation about Divination as a whole, as to what it was and what it wasn't, however, took a great deal more time to process. She nodded slowly, fiddling with the edge of her sleeve as she chased the words around her head to try and sort them out. She didn't know that Divination could see the past. So far it had all seemed to be about the future, or the very-near-immediate present which could simply be counted as the present. Weren't memories supposed to take care of the past business? Why have them if Divination could do the same thing. And why couldn't people have their eyes open all the time? Weren't they, after all, a species of animal? Or was that only according to some?
Amur twisted her sleeve, her eyes swimming. "I'd...like to read a few books, I think...and thank you." Because she had a lot more questions, and surely more on top of that as soon as those questions were answered. "But if I get confused, can I come ask you?"
While that's what it sounded like Professor Morgan was saying, Amur didn't want to assume. Some people didn't want further inquiry, some did. Even though she had heard it was a Professor's responsibility to answer questions, she preferred to pull her own weight and do what investigating she could. Perhaps she could answer her own questions without bothering others with all of them.
She rearranged her robes and settled her hands on her knees. "My father? He's a freelancer. Writes for everyone and anyone he can. Usually weird, out-there-stories. Usually about muggle things or habits." Hopefully Professor Morgan hadn't read anything from her father. Depending on the story found, they could be very interesting and proportionately controversial. She loved her father, but on some days she didn't want to be associated with him.
Snaps. Those were a much better conversation. It was an interesting, but refreshing habit and Professor Morgan's explanation had her grinning. Holding up both of her hands, she clapped them once, then twice before pulling them apart and snapping her fingers. Her grin widened. "You're right! That does feel better. Lighter almost. Less...boisterous." She nodded. "I like it."

She hoped she was making sense with all of this. She knew it was a lot of information. Which made her very excited for the lesson she was going to have towards the end of term. Hopefully that would help even other students out with understanding Divination a little better, but for now cats were the topic. Thinking about cats she put her green eyes back on the one in front of them. They were so fun to watch, she half thought about just adopting them all and letting the stick around the castle, but Archie probably would not like that at all. No she better take them back so they could get their forever homes.
“You are always welcomed at my office and I always have hot chocolate and tea for my guests.” She typically had treats as well, but they were always different so no need to say anything specific. She loved her sweets. “The library is full of Divination resources and so is my office. So I can help you in either spot.” She was in the library quite a bit because of a certain librarian. Hehe
“OOOOH that sounds interesting.” She snapped and hoped she had read some of his articles. “I always love interesting stories, not the same old boring stories.” She knew real world things like the ministry election were important, but it really didn’t interest her as much as seeing who the next wizarding starlet was going to be.
YAY!! She liked to snap and snapping is what Cassie did to show her appreciation. “It’s just so much easier and more enjoyable. People don’t even realize it until they are all of the sudden snapping too. I started the snap cup my first term here and some refused to snap and now as you can see everyone or at least almost everyone is snapping.” There was always going to be that one person who was too cool for her snaps, but she didn’t care, she had never went with what was cool.
This girl about had a heart attack because of that orange cat wanting to play in the fire or jump into it. Emmylou wasn't very sure what that cat was trying to do really. Cats were just way to strange for her liking and most of them were mean and had attitude issues like a lot girls at Hogwarts and some but not all guys. Moody little animals.
Looking for cats was very hard, they run really fast and sometimes don't want to be stalked. That's what the fifth year felt like she was doing, stalking cats. If she was then she was horrible at it. She didn't even know how to stalk and in her book stalking was super creepy and probably meant that one didn't have friends or just was a weirdo but that was the same thing, right? Stalkers were bad.

Emmylou hurried up and opened her notebook up. She had her pen still in her hand to make sure that she would be able to write something down and get to her last and final cat and then she would be done.

So when a cat points his or her tail towards any fire it means that there will heavy rain or frost but it's too cold for rain so I think that it means that there is a chance that it will be a little frosty. I don't know when it will happened but it will or so the cat is telling me it will. I have trust issues with cats.

Okay so according to our textbook a cat that is all stretched out and looking like it's doing yoga means that good days are ahead which is something I'll need when we go on break. Oooh wait there's more! It means that the sun will be out. You know it really feels like I haven't seen the sun in forever. I really miss the sun.
Emmylou closed her textbook, notebook and stood up. Now it was time for the final cat. She didn't even know where else to look really. There had to be other places and she would be sure to look somewhere that isn't outside because she was starting to get cold.

Ooooh hot chocolate?! That made the fear of trying to swallow down all the information about Divination a little less heavy. Things were always easier to understand if there was some sort of comfort food about. Smart teacher, very very smart.
Amur smiled and bobbed her head, half in acknowledgement and half in appreciation. "Thank you, Professor Morgan. I'll probably...have to take you up on that." She scratched behind her ear self-consciously. "Wasn't really the first thing my parents thought about teaching me out of the crib." Nor her Aunt or Uncle. Nor her cousins. Nor her grandparents. Really, none of them were Divination-nuts, but she was determined to make up for it as much as she could.
She had to giggle a little bit at how excited the Professor got at hearing her dad wrote freelance. "Oh they are interesting alright." Not boring. No, her dad loathed boring. "I can bring you a few, if you would like?"
A sort of payment system for help, as it was? Even though that was in the job description of a Professor, and payments were almost akin to bribery. Amur ignored that however. It would be more of a thank-you, because there would be a looot of questions coming from her.
She shifted and watched the Professor curiously. "A snap cup? So like, a contest on the best snapper? And you went here? To Hogwarts?" No way. That was two Professors! She wanted to ask if the Professor had known her father, but she surmised that if she had her father would certainly have written about the snapping, let alone the snap cup. Hogwarts was turning out to be a very interesting place. "How does a snap cup work?"
No doubt, she would now be snapping a lot more than clapping.
