Welcome to Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop, the feather in Hogsmeade's hat!
Please take a look around at everything and let the Shopkeeper, aka Hogsmeade's Cat Lady, Edina Fairbairn, know if you need any help with anything!
Keep your eyes open and try not to step on any of Edina's seven cats that 'help' her run the shop. They are all very friendly animals and tend to want attention from anyone that comes in the door.
Photos!: product list!
Photos!: About the shop and its shopkeeper
OOC: Do not RP for the Shopkeeper. Remember, all school RPG rules apply. Thanks!
With a wand in one hand, a cat sprawled on a shoulder and another cat trying to get on the other shoulder, Edina padded around waving her wand while muttering under her breath spells that immediately cleaned and rearranged the shelves. Newest items needed to be right at the front where the eyes of the Hogwarts' students would spot them RIGHT away. Her kittens could use a toy or two, which was why she hoped to trap attract the kids when it was time for their weekend here. She was absolutely ready and apparently so were her cats that lingered at the entrance and purrrred at anyone who entered or passed by.

Paige felt simply AWFUL about so many things right now. And it wasn't just the awful one might feel from eating an especially bitter vegetable or smelling an especially stinky rubbish bin. No, this was the sort of awful that had your stomach in knots while it did back flips on a trampoline while your feet felt like that had a Permanent Sticking Charm on them so you couldn't move from the place where you stood.
Which was precisely what Paige S. Skeeter was doing right now. Standing in frozen horror with both hands pressed up firmly against the display window as she recalled how careless she had been over the summer with the phoenix quill ...the STOLEN phoenix quill ... the phoenix quill that was still in her pocket... So there was the guilt from breaking AND stealing the quill - although she had been assured that she wasn't really doing any harm back then - on top of the fact that she had just SNUCK out of Hogwarts with the aid of her sisters so she could put her conscience to rest and actually purchase something from a quill shop. Not the same one, obviously, but it was the thought behind the actions that she was focusing on.
At least that was what she was telling herself.
Now if she could just get her feet unstuck and actually go inside the shop....

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Tabitha needed to get some supplies so she could write letters to her parents back home in America. Tabitha had just started her job at the Ministry of Magic and didn't have the time to pop back and forth between Connecticut and London. Also, she wanted to please her father who didn't really approve of overusing magic.
Tabitha walked into the shop and looked around. She smiled at the cats and decided to have a look around, thinking as to what should she buy.

Not the same one, obviously, but it was the thought behind the actions that she was focusing on.
At least that was what she was telling herself.
Now if she could just get her feet unstuck and actually go inside the shop....
Sophie was walking along by herself, having separated herself from her friend group temporarily to do some exploring of her own - she really wanted to figure out the best place on the street to open her wand shop some day. Studying traffic patterns and strategically placing it near related shops was important to her and her future business, so she took extra care to analyze every inch of the street and absorb every little bit of information she could. She also needed to think about which shops were at risk of going out of business - that meant some day the building might be open, and she could move HER shop IN.
As she approached the quill shop, Sophie decided this was one at risk. If ANYTHING, the shop's inventory could easily be sold down at Dervish and Banges to make room for a WAND shop which was MUCH more important. And really, she thought people would come to Hogsmeade specifically for her wands, so all the other shops in the village would really need to thank her for bringing them business.
She had it all planned out.
There was a younger girl outside the quill shop, though, her nose pressed up against the window. She looked too young to be allowed to come along with them, and Soph stood there, watching her for a little while to see what she would do next. Did she want to BUY stuff from in there? Was... it really that interesting of a shop to her that she wanted to just stand there and stare through the window and look at stuff, but not go inside? Or was she scared she was going to get caught for being in Hogsmeade?
Soph approached slowly and cautiously, carefully pressing her own face up against the shop window and peeking inside as well to see... if there was anything even worth LOOKING at. She was entirely unimpressed, though, and pulled back to peek at the girl. "Y'want me t'go buy you somethin'? If you don't have money or anything, s'cool, it'll be my present for you bein' so brave to sneak on down here." She GRINNED at that, her eyebrows raised expectantly for the girl to confirm that she WAS too young to be here.

Okay...OKAY...she could do this. Guilt was slowly eating at her less and less the longer she stood there at the window with one hand in her pocket touching the phoenix feather quill. Timidly, she took a step back and another deep breath, readying herself to actually step towards the door this time...when it became all too apparent that she was not alone.
"Wh-wh-wh-pardon?" she squeaked, absently tucking one of her curls behind her ear after spinning around to see an older girl standing before her. She didn't make eye contact just yet though, it was harder to tell lies when you actually looked at the person, and focused on her pink converse instead. "I-I-I didn't sneak out. My, um, my mum is um....she is um...she is um...paying the tab at the Two...I MEAN THREE...Three Broomsticks."
Okay, trying to pay off her bad karma from the broken and stolen quill was proving to be a lot more difficult that first expected. And now she was adding up even MORE bad karma because she was LYING to someone who was just trying to be nice to her.
Why was life so haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard?

...Well, that was a little weird.
The stuttering, the nervous gestures, the lack of eye contact... Soph actually took a step back to give the younger girl some space. "Whoa, whoa, sorry there, kid. Didn't mean to... you're not in trouble." Did she think she was? Soph assumed so, since the girl was freaking out on her and very obviously trying to make up an excuse on the spot.
She wasn't very good at lying, did she know?
"Relax. M'not gonna tell anyone. If anything, I bet if someone did try to give you a hard time 'bout it, I could sweet-talk 'em and convince 'em you're okay to be here." Was she convincing enough? Even though she was still standing an extra step away from her to give her room, Sophie cautiously extended a hand to the girl to shake. Would she accept it, though? "M'Sophie Brown., fourth year Ravenclaw. And the offer still stands, if y'want me to buy you something." She wasn't the least bit deterred by her jittery demeanor and the obvious fact that the kid was lying to her.
Sophie could teach her to spout of a convincing lie without stumbling through it, if she wanted.

Gabe had somehow managed it!
CB........was with him........in Hogsmeade.
...Okay, so...she was with him under the ruse of 'showing him around'...which was accurate since he'd never been to Hogsmeade before....BUT STILL! This was a big deal. After visiting the sweet's shop and buying his weight in pumpkin pasties, they'd migrated to this other shop. It resembled the one in Diagon Alley...that he could no longer visit due to dropping all the ink wells...
...and there were cats....watching him.
O.O
"Uh......" Gabe glanced at CB and quickly moved towards the ink. They'd need to be quick....because the cats would converge on him soon. They would. HE JUST KNEW IT.

This was just GREAT, okay?
She could pretty much spend her whole day here. Why, might you ask? Not because it was Hogsmeade. Hogsmeade was pretty cool, don't get her wrong, but she was with Gabe. And it... wasn't awkward or weird. Except for the minor mishap of almost taking his hand earlier. But they were past that now so it was all good.
Coral was doing her very best to resist the urge to take out one of her sugar quills as they moved into another shop- a stationary and ink shop. Her favorite. Perfect distraction, really.......
And the cats definitely helped. Ballet would have loved this. She paused in one of the isles to give a kitty a nice lovely little under the chin, near the neck, head scratch before moving further into the shop.
Turning her attention back to Gabe, the girl grinned. Did he remember their first ink shop interaction?
Hehe.
"Hey, Gabe?" she spoke as she twirled to properly face him. "What are you going to get?"

There was no way Gabe would ever forget dropping 14 ink wells....in public, thank you very much.
...and he was looking at the Quick Quotes Quill...considering if this particular quill would take his notes as efficiently as Gabriel Banner liked them to be. He was just particular about his notes, okay? A system and formatting were in place that made it easier for him to focus on the things he was struggling with...as opposed to the topics he already understood. Gabe was an avid color!coder, too...
"..........Uh, what do you think....about this?" He gestured to said quill, face scrunched and screwed with thought and concentration.
Of course, he could purchase it...and then after jotting things down, transfer them into his notes with the specified colors...

Today was great. CB was just in one of those super happy everything is pretty much amazing and great moods. This mood could easily be blamed on Mr. Banner, however, blamed shouldn't be the word used, but rather, attributed, perhaps.
Coral resisted the heavy urge to twirl around in circles, possibly with a cat in her arms, and focused on the inks she was currently grazing her fingers over.
"I was thinking about buying one of those eventually. It would definitely be helpful in classes and with homework." Definitely would've helped with documenting the fairy experiences. She wouldn't have had to get so nervous over losing them and having to keep one eye on the fairy and the other on her parchment. That would've been nice.
She turned back toward her inks, picking out a particular shade of pink that she happened to be low on, and as well as a green which she was also low on. Maybe she'd treat herself to a new quill as well.
Her eyes might have drifted over to him every so often, half checking he was still there, half looking for the fun of it.

Sophie could teach her to spout of a convincing lie without stumbling through it, if she wanted.
Paige tugged on her fingers and wiggled back and forth in place for a few moments as she studied first her shoes and then the shoes belonging to the older girl. "You're still a kid yourself," she mumbled as her tugged moved to the sleeve of her coat. Her step dad called her kid. She wasn't particularly fond of it, but understood that it was just his way of trying to bond with her.
Giving her sleeve one last tug, the first year finally lifted her gaze to look into the eyes of who was speaking to her and GASP. "...Sophie Brown," she said at essentially the same time that the Ravenclaw introduced herself, making an awkward harmony with their voices. The Ravenclaw's one of confidence and spunk while her own was of timid admiration. With perhaps just a tiny hint of jealousy. But jealousy was a very unbecoming trait, so Paige tried to shrug those thoughts off. "I...um...I know you from classes...and some conversations in the common room that I tried not to eavesdrop on but could not help it..." she explained, eyes back down on her shoes now, her cheeks on fire once again.
Her one hand shoved back into the pocket of her jacket and clutched the broken phoenix feather quill. "No, I um...that's okay...you don't have to do that. I need to buy something on my own. To fix my bad karma. But I thank you kindly for the offer."
Kindness. That was a trait that she had too. Apparently sweet talking was a trait she needed to work on if she ever wanted to draw in the attention of someone like Mr. Toby. Paige wished she had brought her journal with her so she could learn the ways of Sophie Brown.
"Also...thank you...for not telling a professor or anyone," she said between chews on her lower lip. It was obvious that her facade wasn't holding up, so best to start fixing that bad karma now and come clean with the truth. "I reckon papa wouldn't be interested in having a criminal over for the weekend."

Eh. Andrew was bored. So instead of the usual things he did, take a walk in all the Greenhouses and make sure his index was accurate, he decided to leave the castle. The students were going to Hogsmeade, yeah? And he had not been there in a while. He certainly did not intend to go to a place with too many kids in it but he'd not thought it through as he walked down the street of the village. So to escape the tricky situation, he decided to get inside the first shop he sees.
Which was this one.
Walton cast a look around remembering this particular shop, the many times he'd come here with friends and alone. At least he didn’t accidentally enter the candy shop.
Sliding his hands into his pockets, the man started walking around browsing.

It has been a while since the book took a stroll. It certainly got bored and lonely.
VOILA! Here it was now around people. Oops, did it fall on this man's head? Totally the book's bad.
Glowing and looking mysterious, the book certainly captured the interest of anyone who laid an eye on. Or even got hit with it.

Now that he was here and looking around. It occurred to Andrew that he could use some supplies. Sheets and ink. A part of him wanted to actually grab a scrapbook with the Slytherin theme, but he was hesitant.
He stepped closer to the shelf and was about to pick one up to examine it when SOMETHING hit his head.
OOUCH. WHAT IN MERLIN'S SOCKS WAS THAT.
Andrew frowned at the book that now fell on the floor. If he'd not moved in time he probably would have been hurt!
Who did that, though. The man turned his head around trying to find the culprit. One of the hooligans no doubt. Stupid. And he thought coming here was a good idea. He was sure that whoever did that would have now been long gone. FINE. Maybe he could find something in the book that would lead him to the criminal.
So Walton picked up the book and flipped it open. What was this thing? He kept flipping the pages then paused this part seemed interesting, he found himself reading the first page then turning it to read the next one .

Gooooood, gooooood, good. If the book had a face, it would be dripping with smugness and glee as the man read on. Being the case, its words started glowing looking more exciting and intriguing than ever. Another human to enchant, another fantasy to fulfill.

Andrew was completely swallowed into the book. Well, not literally. But he was so into it, the words dug deep down inside him and were doing things. He tried to fathom out the feeling but he could not. He closed his eyes for a moment and when they were open again, Walton was trapped deep down now.
...
Robin blinked at the giant book in his hands. What was he doing with it? Was he going to sell it? Did one of the Merry Men get a hold of it. Whatever it was it did not look like it was valuable. They needed jewels to sell or get money and give to the poor. Rich people had lots of jewels. And this place did not at all resemble a place where wealthy people would pass. So he was going to leave. Without another moment's thought, Robin left the book on one of the many shelves and headed out the store.

The book was placed on a shelf? How boring. It did not like to be placed here untouched and barely seen. Its place was in the hands of people who quickly got charmed by its fantastic tales. Much like the man who left. If only he had completed his task and passed the book on to someone else.
Seemed like the book would have to take care of that itself.
Not long after the man turned its back, the book vanished into thin air. Who knew where it'll appear next.

...and the cats were STILL making him uncomfortable...
He inched over to the cases of parchment....one eye on the merchandise...and the other on the cat watching him...

Soph snorted a little. Yes, she WAS still a kid, she knew that. "Sorry." Must've been one of those who took that as being talked down to rather than a sort of term of endearment.
...Well, that was weird. The girl knew her? And... sort of looked petrified to see her? What kind of reputation did she have with the young ones? Merlin. Soph dug her hands into her coat pockets, her extended hand unshaken and a confused sort of smile playing upon her lips as the girl continued along. The common room, eh? Oh, she was a Hufflepuff, wasn't she? Heheheh. "Has Tobes been talking about me?" She was VERY amused at the thought of that and she wiggled her eyebrows a bit. There weren't really any other Hufflepuffs who would ever talk about her, except maybe perhaps Leah and Hawthorne, but Soph was content to assume her boyfriend was the one chatting about her to his housemates. Flattering herself and all.
But the girl wasn't introducing herself back, and Soph felt like a jerk for not knowing who SHE was. Sure, the girl looked familiar, but... this Ravenclaw couldn't place a name with the face for the life of her. "What's your name?" she tried to inquire back as lightly and casually as possible, not wanting to make the girl feel any more nervous than she already seemed to be. But she needed a NAME so she could go poke Tobes later and tell him all about how she seemed to have a fan or an admirer or something.
...Or maybe her reaction was entirely a negative one? Maybe the girl was HORRIFIED to be meeting Sophie. Who knew. But Soph was going to assume it was a good thing. Un...less this particular girl was friends with one Cutty Mordaunt, in which case the girl probably hated her or something.
Either way, Soph kept grinning away as the Hufflepuff went on about... bad karma? She raised an eyebrow at that and peeked back inside the quill shop - what did she even mean by that? And... papa? Criminal? This kid was a hoot. She just went right on about whatever came to mind, didn't she? It was kind of adorable, and Soph wondered if Tobes had actually taken this one under his wing. She was sweet and a little quirky and seemed like just the kind of youngling Tobes would befriend in his common room. And the kind she wanted to befriend, too.
She gave a shrug of a shoulder. "Don't mention it. Why don't we go inside and buy something then, hm?" Soph crossed over to the door and held it open for the girl, a sparkle in her eye. "Wanna be friends?" Just by the way?
