| | Stained Glass Windows It's a known fact that fire and paper isn’t a good combination. The library has therefore always featured a sparse number of torches on the walls to minimize the danger to the books. On test this year the torches have been replaced by enchanted firefly lamps. A good number of stained glass windows grace the walls at regular intervals where the room is connected to the outside wall of the castle to ensure that adequate light comes in. Stretching from floor to ceiling these windows depict famous witches and wizards from history, important historical events and beautifully detailed magical creatures or at least that is what you should see.
Come sit down and relax in one the cushioned window seats. Read a book under the warm gaze of a healer or the roaring growl of a dragon. According to legend work gets completed faster if you sit in Rowena Ravenclaw’s window so why not try if there is any truth to it? The glass in the windows can’t be broken by spells or physical force but please be mindful and respectful of the beautiful artwork. Remember to keep your voice down since many people come to the library to study or get a moment or two of quiet. |

| It didn't take very long for Halcyon to reach her limit in tolerating her schoolmates. She had made a very detailed 20 step plan for finding ways to relate to people this year, but after the tiring train ride and the feast and how weird things are with her twin currently, she needed some alone time to decompress. Otherwise she might dip into her snobby mood and run around calling people "plebeians" and that wouldn't get her friends, now would it?
She made her way to her favorite window in the library - the dragon one, of course - and sat beneath it with her copy of Frankenstein. Turning the pages with her wand, she used her free hands to play with the braids in her hair and hummed softly some tune by the Smiths. She was slowly beginning to feel her internal batteries charging, and hopefully soon she'd be ready to work on her big plan again without biting anyone's head off. |

Abby stopped by the stained glass windows and sighed she had been wandering for a bit trying to get her story straight for when she next bumped into Angel when things had calmed down a lot

Phoenix was still exploring, looking round the library this time. Not for books - he didn't have the concentration for it - but because Ruby had told him it seemed like a cool place to snog and he wanted to find out why. You know... for future reference. He was particularly drawn to some cool window seats... when he heard a familiar tune... "He knows so much about these things..." He quietly sang the next line of the song, and grinned over at the girl. Eh, why not? Let's make a friend maybe. He quietly sat down next to the girl and leaaaaned back. All nonchalant and whatnot. "I love the Smiths." In case that wasn't obvious...

"Me as well..," She said cooly, changing her posture entirely to be stick straight. She ceased fussing with her hair and smiled politely at the boy who had appeared without her noticing. "I have them on vinyl but I don't get to listen much. My twin likes music you can dance to and when I tell her you can dance to the Smiths she doesn't believe me."
She looked him over a little, taking mental notes. He looked older than her, but not by much. She found his hair intriguing and his body language was kind of charming like the male leads in movies, but she'd never seen someone like this in real life. She felt a little curious all of a sudden.
She made sure her lace glove wasn't bunching before she offered him her hand, face down with her wrist limp in an old fashioned way. "I'm Halcyon, but Hallie, really. You are..?" She quirked an eyebrow at him. |

It was just his face that was loud... and occasionally his hands if he was music-ing. "Yeah, we have a ton of their records at home." Phe nodded a little, listening to her. "You can pretty much dance to anything if you try hard enough..." he mused, a little smile on his lips as he watched her. She'd sat up all straight. Was she uncomfortable? Or just incredibly polite?
...Polite, he decided. Especially when she offered him her hand. He took it gently and softly kissed her fingers... lingering juuuuust a second. "Lovely name, Hallie." Interesting too, he'd never heard of te name Halcyon. "I'm Phoenix." You're welcome.

Interesting too, he'd never heard of te name Halcyon. "I'm Phoenix." You're welcome. Hallie nodded three times. "Yeah, I agree, I think I could find something I like to listen to, or dance to, out of anything, really.." she said thoughtfully, trailing off a little.
Hallie continued looking him up and down, studying him and certain he was studying her too on some level. Her right eyebrow arched even higher than before and she smiled wide in response to him kissing her fingers. She'd always been fond of the gesture, and thus far only Cutty had ever gotten it right on the first try. Of course she'd trained Casper to do it too, but he always seemed to be silently making fun of her when he followed her orders. Although this new person was taking his sweet time with it.. But Hal had no complaints, yet.
She nodded three times again, agreeing that her name was indeed very lovely. "Ooh, Pheonix, huh? We're both named after birds!" She blurted out quicker and more excitedly than she'd intended. |

Ooooh so she liked music THAT much. Good. That made Phoenix happy. It was always awesome to find a proper music lover, someone who could appreciate the beauty of music in pretty much anything... "Same, sometimes I write songs purely because I can't find the right one for my mood." Also because it was one of only three things he was particularly good at. But she didn't need to know that.
And yes, he could feel her eyes on her, but he didn't mind. People tended to look at him a lot. It was the sheer beauty. They just couldn't tear their eyes away. He was gorgeous, obviously. That, and the hair. Most people he met wanted to touch it... which he was one hundred percent okay with. In fact, he was okay with any kind of affection really. He craved it. He was needy like that.
Ahh, so a halcyon was a bird? "Awesome... it means we're free spirits, you know." The bird thing. "We can fly over anything and come out alright on the other side." And he could rise from ashes if he got caught in the crossfire, of course. "I bet you've got a pretty singing voice too?" She'd been able to hold a tune whilst humming, so why not sing? Birds sang...

"You write music? I wish I could do that. I don't even play an instrument, apart from the little bit of piano my best friend taught me this summer. Are you any good at it?"
Hallie's expression was unwaveringly curious. This Phoenix was beginning to remind her very much of her tutor, Cristo, who also said things like 'we're free spirits' and slept primarily in a hammock. Her brain's gears were grinding, absorbing this boy's Cristo-ness and also searching for distinction from him. She made the decision to ask Phoenix many questions.
Hal smoothed her skirt with her hands idly and let out an entertained chuckle. "Do you really believe that? That someone's name can affect who and how they are, like, intrinsically?" She asked with a suspicious grin. "Or are you just trying to be charming?" This boy was, if anything, amusing to her.
"My voice is if anything, average, although occasionally it is honestly horrible to listen to. It doesn't stop me from singing along to things though." Hallie looked at her hand as if she was examining her nails, though she couldn't see them beneath her glove. "Though your assumption was a compliment, so thank you." |

Clara had wanted to go outside to find some quiet and escape the ridiculous amount of people in the castle, but it was getting a little late ... and the temperature was going down. So she'd chosen the next best place (or maybe the best place, depending) - the library.
When she'd first walked in she'd taken a brief look around the selection of books the school had. Many of them she already owned and they were here in her room or at home, but some of them she'd definitely never seen before and would have to look at at a later date. First, she reallllly wanted to get some reading time in ..... quiet time, too, so she headed to the first area that had seats.
The redhead peered around. This area was beautiful - firefly lamps and stained glass windows. If she wasn't feeling so ZONEY, she would have taken a closer look. For now, though, she decided to sit by the Rowena Ravenclaw window, as it was further out of sight of people than the others ..... But instead of sitting on the window seat, Clara chose to sit on the floor in front of the window seat ... she'd always found floor sitting more comfortable when reading for some reason.
Once settled Clara wasted no time opening one of the three books she'd brought along with her and began to read.
Mmmmm. Happy Clara. |

Hallie looked at her hand as if she was examining her nails, though she couldn't see them beneath her glove. "Though your assumption was a compliment, so thank you." "Mhmm, it's pretty much my favourite thing in the world. Music, I mean. There's a song for every moment, and if there isn't then you're just not looking hard enough." OR you should write one. That was one thing Phoenix believed above all. Music was life. "And yes, I am good at it." Ooooobviously. "I'll play for you sometime though, and you can judge for yourself." He liked to show off, okay?
Hmm... did he believe that? "A bit of both, really." Honest. He did a lot of things just to be charming... but... "I've never met anyone interesting called Pattie. And I've never met anyone boring with a unique name like yours, so I think there's some truth to it." After all, would he have been so amazingly cool if he didn't have a cool name? Probably. But he was the exception that proved the rule. "Singing is one of the best forms of medicine." Phe said, lounging in the seat. "It can make you happy even when you feel the worst. And it's actually really good for your heart, you know, medically." Not just in the fancy idillic way. It was genuinely good cause it regulated your breathing or whatever. "You're very welcome. Maybe you can sing with me." When he played for her, that is. Or whenever. He liked hearing people sing, it opened a window into their soul.

Mmmmm. Happy Clara. Apparently.... Gabriel was having ZERO luck in the library today.
After his encounter with Dot...the terrifying little girl who was rather bossy in spite of her small stature, he'd made for the stained glass windows, thinking that... FOR SURE...no one would be there. Of course, this was further proof that Gabe didn't know anything about Hogwarts, yet. There was ALWAYS someone SOMEPLACE that you didn't want to deal with. Not that Clara was that awful.... "The Most Awful" title went to that Zahra girl...hands down...but....uh, she was...uh...
Uhhhhhhhh. A girl. That's what she was.
....and she was sitting right there reading and he was positive she'd seen him. OR...maybe she hadn't. Thinking it best to act casual, he quickly grabbed the nearest book and opened it, burying his face within the pages. Unfortunately, it started screaming....and it was either slam it shut....or rendered deaf.
UGH.
ANOTHER BOOK. QUICKLY....Uh, Gabe went for another and luckily, it didn't do anything crazy when he opened it. NOPE. TOTALLY INCONSPICUOUS, thank you very much...
With his face buried in the book, he inched back towards the front desk. He could try this library thing again....some other...time, maybe.

She'd been picking up Portuguese at such a speed that ... that it wasn't quite satisfying her. The most complicated books seemed fairly simple to her. So, while she was pleased with herself, she was left with a thirst to know MORE ... But there wasn't more left. She wasn't the sort to leave a book unfinished, though, so she continued reading, enjoying the silence and not even noticing when someone else joined her area of the library.
That was ... until a book started screaming. "HOLY ... HOLY ... holy books." Clara head immediately snapped up and she STARED the invader out. He'd ... she assumed it was a he ... had interrupted her peace and quiet. Why could she never get peace and quiet? Seriously, Hogwarts was massive, surely there were only so many places people could occupy at the same time.
Huh ... The more Clara stared, the more she came to realise ...
She'd seen that scrambling before, and the burying face in a book, and those legs ... before they'd left to go to the bathroom ... to climb out of a window. Gabriel. Of course it was him. Who else could it be? ... And he seemed to be retreating. Clara had have a mind to let him, buuuuut ... not today. "I can see you, you know?" .......... "Gabe." ... That was a greeting, Gabriel. Now ... Converse. |

Gabriel figured that...well, eh? There wasn't really anything to do about it. He'd been found out....NOT THAT HE WASN'T STILL GOING TO TRY AND RUN.
Heh.
Heeeeeeeeh.
Quickly walking in the other direction. Gabriel snatched up some more random books and proceeded to hide. Just what Gabes did best. Finding a spot, he started reading. READING AND IGNORING THE CLARA.

What was he going to do? Clara observed him, craning her head as he moved to see where he saw going. She was fully prepared to jump up and drag him back down to read if needs be. You see, that's what he had come here to do after all, so why should that change if someone else was there? ... And being respectfully quiet, might she add.
He appeared ..... to be reading. Not too far away from her, but far enough that .... it bothered her.
Clara didn't know what she wanted to do now. She's come here to read, but then Gabe and come in and gone all screaming-book on her. That couldn't go unpunished, could it? Nope. Certainly not. Slowly - and watching him the entire time - Clara scooted over towards him on her butt, not bothering to get up. Only stopping once she was in whispering distance of him. "Psssssssssssst. Gabe." STARE. |

............. "Shhhh."
...and what was he reading? Gabriel had been in such a hurry that he hadn't taken proper note of the books he'd been collecting. The things he was currently looking at...caused his face to flushed a deep, dark crimson.
It was one of those situation where Gabe wanted to look away...but couldn't properly.
NEXT BOOK. That one was....uh, uh...........UH....No.
What was THAT doing in the library, anyway?!
...........Advanced Magical Theory. HE...could do this one. Much, much better.

It was one of those situation where Gabe wanted to look away...but couldn't properly.
NEXT BOOK. That one was....uh, uh...........UH....No.
What was THAT doing in the library, anyway?!
...........Advanced Magical Theory. HE...could do this one. Much, much better. ................ "No."
She hadn't even said what she'd wanted to say yet.
... But before she could do that, she noticed that Gabe's cheeks were slowly turning redder and redder. Why? She stared at him more. It couldn't be her because she'd ... literally just said 'pssst. Gabe.' That certainly not enough to embarrass someone in any way. So ... maybe it was what he was reading? He had rather quickly switched books after all.
Clara slowly leaaaaaned across, not quite into his space, but not quite not. "What were you just reading, Gabriiiiiiiel?"
Que curious looks and attempted peeking. |

Que curious looks and attempted peeking. Of course, 'no'. Gabriel had forgotten how...persistent this one was. He rightfully SCOWLED to show his annoyance. She was almost like Ruby...with her question asking...and pestering.
Okay, so...she wasn't as bad as the other one. The blond Zahra one....but she was still a GIRL....and....Uh, he could NOT with girls.
Even though...she'd....uh, slept in his bed.....and.....forced him to.....uh, crawl out of....uh, his window....
...AND made him have to answer some really uncomfortable questions with Gage and Martina. AND RUBY....who always asked ALL the questions. There was frustration and he just didn't know what to do when it came to this one in particular. He had half a mind to just.........be friends with her....but the prospect freaked him out so much, he nearly fainted.... again.
........AND NO. She was NOT looking at that book. Gabe couldn't even deal. NOT DEALING. THIS WAS HIM NOT DEALING.
With a still flushed face, he attempted a casual shrug. Totally failed...but at least he tried. "Nothing."

With a still flushed face, he attempted a casual shrug. Totally failed...but at least he tried. "Nothing." Clara was simply eyeing him. LOTS OF EYEING.
..... And she certainly wasn't buying that 'nothing'. Who says 'nothing' when talking about a book. Did he think she was stupid? And the casual shrug that looked VERY stiff. Nice. Try. Gabriel. The redhead squinted again, trying to get a look at it, but it was on the other side of him and she wasn't moving any closer to him to see it.
She didn't want to scare him away ... again, and it wasn't really worth the fuss.
Clara adjusted her position slowly so that she was leaning against a wall and crossed her legs. If they weren't going to talk about that mystery book, they could talk about his current book. They would talk about his current book."What are you reading now then? That's not 'nothing,' right?" He wouldn't really pick books that meant nothing, would he? What would the point of that be?
While she waited for him to answer, she reopned her own book, silently flipping the pages until she found her place again. I'm waaaaiiiiiitttttiiiiiiing. |

Nope, he wasn't going to continue the conversation, thank you very much. Words were hard and she was...Well, she made him uncomfortable...and he just couldn't word with her at the moment.
...or any moment, really.
So, taking the easy route, he lifted the books binding to flash the words. She could read, couldn't she?...
...and that reminded him...but NO. NO TALKING. CLARA couldn't force him....right?
Mental conflict; the struggle in wanting to inquire about something and having ZERO fancy in making words. The struggle. Instead, he quelled his desire to ask said question and flipped to the next page. Distracted by knowledge. There. HMPH.

How hard would it have been just to say that small handful of words? She'd heard him speak before, she so knew he could if he wanted to. Maybe it was a matter of pride ..... THAT she could understand. Maybe. She still wouldn't accept it, though.
........... Sorry, Banner boy. "Not quite what what I meant, but alrighty then," she mumbled, flipping pages of her book between glances at Gabe. He looked like he had something to say ... or like he needed the toilet ... so she just kept sending him imporing looks. She knew that she couldn't push him tooooooo much, but a little nudge in the right direction wouldn't hurt, right?
Right .......... "So, you were right about us both being in Ravenclaw."
... There. Now do the speaking thing, Gabe. Even just a little?

He liked to show off, okay?
Hmm... did he believe that? "I wouldn't mind hearing it. What instruments do you play?" Hallie began to play with her hair again while she talked.
"That's an interesting theory. I've never thought much about names. They are just words that we call ourselves, but I guess people always make a deeper meaning in words, so maybe you're right." Halcyon, apart from being a type of bird, also meant tranquil. Hallie had never been a very tranquil person, so she'd never thought her name meant much about her. But maybe Phoenix was right about names and bird names and her. She was certainly trying to be a free spirit in her own way. "The charming thing, do you do that a lot? Does it work on people? I could use some charm of my own."
"I make my twin sing with me when she has a bad dream. What would you have me sing?" These Hogwarts boys were always asking her to do weird things: dancing lessons, cat-sitting, singing. Not that she was complaining.

| For Eva <3 HeadGirlMC | Treddie & Trixiver <3 | Copy Girl | Katie's Ickle Minion | I love YOU more There was one place where Layla had yet to have explored yet. The library. The fifteen year old had never confessed her love of books to her friends back home. They were the shopping, hanging about on the common room type of girls rather than the engage in reading for an hour or so a day type. Although she was free to do what she liked at home, Layla had always tried to keep up a specific image of herself and being 'intelligent' and a 'book lover' were not two aspects that she considered to show.
Yet here she was entering the library as a Ravenclaw where it was basically written in their guidelines that they had to be that type of person. Picking up a book about ancient runes and squinting at the title, the blonde haired girl headed towards the magnificent stained glass window that stood proudly in the book lined room. She plopped down on the chair and opened it up to the first page, tilting her head as she read the first line.
It was not as perfectly quiet in here as she hoped but it was better than being cooped up in the common room among a wealth of very excitable Ravenclaws. She'd heard that Ancient Runes was supposedly a complicated subject but she was up for the challenge, mostly because very few actually knew her around here. The girls back home didn't have to know she was more intelligent than she had ever let out. Engaged in the book, Layla tried to forget that there was no one else around her.
