The class is the same with the proper chairs and soft cushions to sit and lean back on that are still are charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated. The walls are still a soft, calming blue. There previous additions stand as well: one big, grey rubbish bin by the door and a white, porcelain washbasin with a tap for those who wants to wash their hands before/after the class and who can't perform 'Aguamenti' charm (a short hose to direct the water to the cauldron is on the white, porcelain shelf hung on the wall, in case the cauldron doesn't fit the washbasin).
The door is open 15 minutes before the class time. Your professor is waiting by it and shakes your hand as a greeting as you enter.
OOC: If you are going to RP your characer use the rubbish bin or the washbasin, you don't have to RP asking for Cosgrach's permission. Just assume he has granted it.
Come in, take your seats! The class will resume approximately 12 hours later. You may chat among yourselves, but please don't go overboard with it. Thanks! The class has begun, so please do not announce your late arrival, but RP as if you have been here all the time.
Potion progress
1. Add 300 mililitres of water and 2 drops of Lethe River Water to your cauldron.
2. Gently heat for 20 seconds.
3. Add twofour Valerian sprigs to your cauldron.
4. Stir 3 times clockwise AND 3 times counter clockwise.
5. Wave your wand once over the cauldron in clockwise circular motion.
The potions in the room are black and muddy, and the smoke got denser. Professor Cosgrach has fooled you and you have 3,5 hours to fix it and leave a sample of correctly brewed Forgetfulness Potion on his desk.
OOC notes
1. As there is no JKR-canon way to fix a potion, be creative and make something up! Two examples my humble brain could think of (I am not saying I'll grade based on these examples, because there is no definite 'correct' way) are:
For stirring, you may turn the stirrer upside down and stir the other way.
For extra Valerian roots, you may add Jobberknoll feathers.
2. Explain in your posts why your character went with that way to fix the step, and please refrain from adding OOC comments while explaining.
3. You may work in pairs. You don't have to RP in the library.
4. Fix only one step per post, please, to let me post the potion's reaction and say whether it's worked or made everything worse (I'll be posting that, yes. ) Once everything is fixed, you can make big posts for the rest of the potion.
5. Cosgrach has left the classroom, but I am still here, so please refrain from chatter.
Essentially, you post one step and wait for The Narrator's post.
So that's how I'll grade: creativity and potions common sense. To get full credit, you have to post at least 5 times: 3 to undo the damage and 2 to complete the potion. There is no maximum limit.
You have until Tuesday 19.00 GMT/14.00 EST 23.59 GMT/19.00 EST to complete it.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
It wasn't that Potions was Kevin's least favourite subject. Because Potions itself was cool...no, it was the man who was teaching it was his least favourite Professor but that was alright he guessed. His school bag was on his back as he walked through the dungeon corridor and he held his potions kit in his left hand. When he saw that the Professor was shaking the hands of the students in greeting, Kevin let him but he wiped his hand on his Gryffindor robe immediately after the hand shake and without saying anything he found himself a seat.
Wait.....was he the first? He deserved a medal for this!

Despite his misgivings about a new potions professor, Caleb really ended up liking this class this year. Culloden was actually pretty cool not that Caleb would ever admit this and the potions they'd made were cool as well. He just hoped he could concentrate long enough to do well on his final...
Nodding politely as he shook the man's hand, Caleb entered the room and took a seat near the front. Maybe sitting up front would keep him awake.

Sophie was surprised to be greeted with a hand shake from professor Culloden. "Good afternoon, professor!" The girl smiled at him then made her way to take a seat to the right side of the room.
It felt weird being one of the first students to arrive, especially for Potions. It definitely wasn't Sophie's favourite class, but maybe it was because she actually liked the teacher. I mean, look at him! Greeting all of them as they entered. That was too nice! And a bit funny even. Hehe!

Ian shuffled into the potions room pleased about the pleasant blue color. He noted the professor standing there and extended his hand in greeting. He looked down and saw how aged his hand appeared to him. Good day, professor. Very kind of you to greet us in this way.
Ian then headed to a place to sit down. He didn't travel too far from the doorway out of simple laziness. He'd learned to exert the least amount of energy possible to accomplish a particular task. He was tired all the time and any additional expenditure of energy seemed a waste.

It was nearly two in the afternoon of the 14th of March which meant...
... Potions!
Even if the classroom wasn't too far away from the common room, Alec still found it tiring to head on over to the classroom. Slow walks were happening. Maybe this was a good thing since he could forget about certain things -- like the fact that this was his last potions lesson -- and concentrate on...
... the potion they had been asked to read up on? Which was...? He unravelled the piece of parchment in his hand. Forgetfulness Potion. Right. Couldn't forget this one. And this was almost like last minute studying. Almost. That was allowed, right? And, more importantly, were they allowed notes in this lesson or...?
Shaking his head, the Head Boy scrunched up the piece of parchment again and stuffed it into his bag before heading into the-- ... Oh! Culloden was standing right by the door. "Hello Professor!" Hand shakes? YEAH. He gave the man a good ol' handshake and a smile before making his way into the classroom. Heading over towards an empty seat, Alec flopped down and let out a sigh of relief. Comfortable chairs. Good stuff. Perfect for his back.

Potions.
She still wasn't entirely sure that Culloden was a fan of her these days but she attended anyway because she liked the class...and him. He was a really good Professor. And so she wore a small smile as she slowly walked through the door, not really surprised to see him standing there. Handshakes, though? Wasn't he worried about the old age thing? Other people seemed to be. The eighteen year old shrugged and shook his hand anyway. "Hello, Professor."
Then it was on to her seat, giving smiles to Soph and Alec as she went because haiiii best and boyfriend person. We see you. After she was finally in place and comfortable, notes were removed from her bag and hands were cleaned and then she was ready to begin.

Stepping up the doorway (old-woman style, of course), Sophie paused when she saw the professor standing there. She gave him a small smile despite the way she felt like death was three steps away. "Okay, okay. So I ended up liking your class this year," she said. She remembering coming to him in the beginning of the year and basically telling him she preferred being taught by her grandmother. "But I still miss my grandma. I just...wanted to let you know you did a pretty good job." Pause. "Okay, a really good job."
She shook his hand and moved past the doorway. Soon afterwards, she'd found her work station next to Caleb and began the process of unpacking her belongings.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Adi slowly made his way to Potions. He had really enjoyed the lessons though at first he had a few misgivings about anyone who took Lafay's place. Yep. You heard that. He had actually liked the woman. She really knew her stuff but her replacement lived up to her standards.
"Hello, Professor,'' Adi greeted and was surprised when he was rewarded with a handshake. How nice! He grinned. "You did an excellent job this year, Professor.'' Nod. And with that, the Puffer hobbled off to a workstation.
Assigned readings and pre-class studying were typically boring events, but Sophie hadn't minded it so much this time around. Forgetfulness potions were an interesting enough topic, and the Ravenclaw couldn't help but wonder if they would actually be making a forgetfulness potion today or Culloden wanted them to have a background in them so they could make something else to combat memory loss and compare and contrast and stuff like that.
Whatever the case, she supposed she would find out soon enough. Too weary to carry heavier things anymore, she neared the potions classroom with her cauldron and supplies inside it levitating in front of her, happy to see the professor right by the door, shaking hands with someone who had just entered - someone who was grey and wrinkly. Ha. That was interesting, wasn't it? Was Culloden trying to make a point that he WASN'T disgusted with them, then?
Not trusting herself to not accidentally steer the cauldron into him or one of the other students upon entering the classroom, though, she lowered the cauldron to the floor, set her wand inside, and carried the cauldron with both shaky hands inside the room. "M'not snubbin' you, hold on," was all she said as she gave him the slightest smirk, heading to drop off her cauldron and its contents at the work station nearest to the man's desk near the front of the room before returning back to him, not even paying attention to any of the students that were already there. Instead of extending her hand in greeting, though, she simply stood by his side, crossed her arms, and offered him a mildly concerned look, "Still feelin' okay?"
Delilah made her way to the Potions classroom, feeling tired as usual. They really needed to find a solution to this ridiculous disease.. thing or whatever it was. At least, she didn't look old.
... And she jumped. Culloden was standing right next to the entrance... She eyed him suspiciously as he extended a hand. What? This was weird. "Hello, professor." She frowned as she shook his hand before entering the classroom. The girl flopped down on an empty seat near the front and dropped her bag to the floor.

It was hard to believe the potions year was coming to a close. And for once Ben wasn't fearful of what was to come in the end. He had survived with not too many incidents or nervous breakdowns because he was freaked out by the professor. Maybe it had just been Lafay that had gotten him so afraid, made him so nervous to work his way through lessons that he wasn't the best at. Even horrible in some respects. No matter what the case, he had made it, in more ways then one, hobbling all the way down to the dungeons when it was time for class.
"Hello Professor," he greeted, shaking the hand that was offered by the older man. A hand that looked far younger than his own. Moving forward into the class, the second year made his way to a workstation beside his friend. "Hey," he greeted Adi, nearly collapsing into his chair, his supplies coming to rest in front of him.

Potions had honestly became one of Lux's favourite subjects, and she really liked Professor Culloden, so it was no surprise that she was in a good mood as she approached the classroom. It was a little surprising to see said Professor at the doorway, or to see his arm extend outwards to give her a handshake. Was he not worried about contamination what with the strange condition spreading through the school? Never-the-less, she shook hands with him. "Hello, Professor. I have really enjoyed your class this Term." It was a shame that this would be the last lesson until next Term.
Stepping inside, she went to find a seat, smiling at Adi as she passed him. After sitting at a workstation and taking her stuff out, she waited for her other friends to arrive, and for things to begin.

Theo had been studying all morning (and a fair bit over the weekend) for this class, but only because it was apparently important to. He was kinda tired of potions by now, though, which wasn't helpful. He flattened his tie before he entered the room, since it was looking a bit wrinkly, but he didn't spend too long thinking about this when he was met by professor Culloden at the door waiting to shake his hand.
Uhhh...
Could he opt out of this?
He gave the man a look as if he was totally bizarre, and then he stared at his hand, but decided to shake it anyway. He would only look like a tool if he didn't, right? "Hello... Professor." Yup.
Anyway moving on... PERFECT. A washbasin. Handshake. Wash hands. Perfect. Theo made his way straight over there and tapped it into motion. He washed his hands thoroughly but quicker than usual since he was aware that other students would probably want to use it. Once he had finished, Theo gave his tie another smooth down and then found a seat. Here we go... snoooooooooooore.

He looked a bit younger with thanks to his professors charms and potions, but he was still old and so his grip was somewhat weak when he reached forward to return the handshake to Professor Culloden. No tricks, though he'd thought about retracting several times until the Professor was perturbed by the gesture. He had a point to make, and also he was wondering what was behind this sentiment.
Cutty moved on to his seat, dropped his things off and shuffled over to the basin to wash his hands, then immediately set to cleansing his cauldron and stirring sticks, cause he'd bought more after the last lesson.

Moving towards the door he spotted the professor standing right by it.. ohhh.. he was shaking peoples hands.. alrighty then.. "Hello Professor.. how are you today" he said while taking the man's hand..
walking towards his desk he sat down on the comfy chairs… "i really want one of these" he thought while sinking in it… ahhhhhhh so awesome.. maybe I can just close my eyes for a little bit until the class actually starts.
Adelaide made her way into the potions classroom. She was actually really enjoying these lessons this year. Not to mention Culloden was just a really nice guy. Of course she had some brownies tucked away in her bag, in case anyone including the professor wanted some. But she wasn't just going to bring them out.
"Hello professor." She gave him a warm smile and then made her way into the classroom. Adelaide grabbed any empty seat next to Theo...who seemed to be rather sleepy. She nudged him slightly. Probably not a good idea for him to be sleeping during a lesson. Especially this one.
Somehow Brynn didn't think that the professor would see any amusement or irony in forgetting to study up on the Forgetfulness Potion as was requested, so she was a good girl and at least skimmed over the text. Studied and memorized, no.. but she did read about it so that should count for something. As for knowing the contents of a few potions books.. er, that was a bit too broad for the first year. Too much to choose from, you know? She vaguely knew some so she hoped it was sufficient.
She shuffled into the room behind a few other students to see the professor standing near the doorway, shaking hands as they entered. As he extended his hand out to her, Brynn shook it and offered the man a small smile. "Hi, Professor." That was it. No small talk. She carried her things over to a workstation, then took a seat in the comfy chair. So much nicer than the hard backs from most of the other classes.

Annabeth waited a few moments before entering the Potions class, breathing deeply. It would be the last class of this term. She felt embarrassed for having said during the last lesson that the teacher was handsome. Though it was real and he was handsome, indeed. She felt her heart losing a beat as she realized he was at the door.
"Hi, Professor Culloden," she said almost whispering, looking at the floor, while reaching out her hand to him. When she felt his hand shaking her hand, the girl looked at him briefly, blushing. Then she looked away to find some place to sit.
Anna walked towards an empty chair, thinking she wouldn't clean her hand anymore. Nevermore. She sat and waited for the class to start.
When he saw that the Professor was shaking the hands of the students in greeting, Kevin let him but he wiped his hand on his Gryffindor robe immediately after the hand shake and without saying anything he found himself a seat.
And the first student to show up had to be that one. Ugh. Cosgrach did little to hide his dislike, but he shook his hand nevertheless and said "Welcome." even though he wasn't 'welcome'. If only this class wasn't mandatory...
Lucky for the kid, the older man missed his wiping hand on his robe, or else, there would be words.

Cosgrach felt he ought to make more effort to learn these students' names, because it was embarrassing. Luckily, he knew this one's name and he greeting him with a warm "Caleb." Hopefully, he didn't look like he pitied the boy. Oh, but he did! He looked so terrible. Gosh.
Next one, please.

"Welcome, Miss." He smiled back. Her name... he ought to learn it.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Summers." The man smiled back, pleased to see the boy one last time before he died of old age graduated. He was a good student, this one, and a great student leader. If only he didn't look so old...

"Thank you, Mr. Rehman." His voice trembled only a little with emotion. "You were brilliant too, Student." Coming to class on time, doing homework... basically, being a 'professional student' that Cosgrach LOVED to interact with.

It was hard not to grin when Sophie made her way towards the class, but Cosgrach managed it somehow and only chuckled when she said that. He stalled shaking hands then and waited for her, since it was her turn to shake his hand with her disgusting wrinkly old self. So maybe he was trying to make a point, but that wasn't his only motive.
He frowned at her when she didn't shake his hand, though, and hesitantly said "...yes?" Why shouldn't he? Sure he worried about students and blah blah--or was that the correct answer? "Are you alright?" Was this some sort of trap question to test his grey people skills?

What was up with some of these studentsssss? Why didn't they like his hand? He kept them very clean, well kept and un-sweaty, thank you very much. He knew for a fact that they were far more beautiful than at least 50% of the hands here that belonged to old students, so...
Anyways. He wasn't going to let a few ruin his mood.
"Good afternoon, Kinsley." Since 'good noon' didn't make any sense and 2.00 PM WAS sort of after noon...
Yeah. That, and ignoring the students until the actual class time.

Cutty. The boy whose mother he had a lovely chat with. Cosgrach smirked at the boy and was pleased to see he looked better than the last lesson. "Hello Cutty," he said softly and watched him take a seat. He briefly wondered whether his mother told him anything before he greeted the next student.

Ooooh, a smaller girl here. Cosgrach smiled at her warmly. "Hello, Miss..?" Her name? Since his 'I don't learn names' policy kind of corrupted, he was going to make a better effort than that and ask for them.

...that girl... Cosgrach tried to think her behaviour was normal, that nothing was weird, that she was just... a girl... but really...
Clearing his throat, he almost didn't want to shake her hand, but it would be stupid, so he smiled at her instead, even though she didn't see it.
"Welcome, Miss Glasswall." Okay? Good? Good.
Maybe he should... talk to her?
Cosgrach closed the door and turned to the class. He paused only for a moment. He had to admit, the condition of these students worried him enough to consider having a different class, an easier one. And he'd almost changed his mind about it, but then he figured they could learn better this way. Hopefully, none of them would curse him in the end. So, offering them another warm smile, he said "I hope you have all studied the Forgetfulness Potion. It's classified as a 'beginner's potion, so it won't cause you any difficulty." He waved his hand dismissively to highlighten his point and tapped his wand on the board. The steps of the potion appeared.

right now what he need to do was to clean his cauldron.. he made that mistake before but not right now.. taking out his wand he said "Scourgify" alright he should be good to go.. looking down he had to add 300 millimetres of water.. grabbing a clean measuring tool Bay thought it was best to be extra careful.. he cleaned this as well "Scourgify" just as a double precaution. his hand was still in the air with his wand so he said "Aguamenti" and watched it carefully fill up to the amount he needed.. "Finite" he said to end the pour of water..
picking up the measuring tool he poured the water into his cauldron.. now.. looking down at his notes he need to go pick up the Lethe River Water from the Professor's desk.. moving up to the Professor's desk he grabbed his ingredient and went back to his work station.. now he only needed to add 2 drops of this water so Bay needed to be extra careful not to add any more than needed..
using his steady hand he uncorked his Lethe Water and carefully added only 2 drops off water… putting the cork back on the bottle he placed it down on his work station table.. he scratched off what he had done on his notes.

It made Lux happy to see the Professor smile at her like that. Awww, he was so nice! She was liking him more and more as the year passed. All the Professors at this school were so friendly!
As she began taking everything out so that she could get started, Lux listened as he continued to speak. She had studied the potion before coming to class, however, she had not had experience making it so hopefully everything would go smoothly. Opening her notebook, she wrote down the steps in making the potion as they appeared on the blackboard:

The first thing she did before even starting with the steps, was to make sure that all her equipment was clean using magic. Lux knew how important it was to have clean supplies. As soon as that was done, she got up from her workstation and grabbed the Lethe River water from the Professor's deck.
Back at her station, she used her wand to fill one of her measuring cups - that she had cleaned - with water. Once she had 300 mL, she ended the spell saying, "Finite." Adding the water to the cauldron, she picked up the Lethe River water and made sure to add only two drops.
With that done, Lux crossed off the first step in her notes:

Had he studied the Forgetfulness Potion? Yeah! The notes were still scrunched up in his bag somewhere. You know, just in case he didn't remember as much as he ought to. But... that didn't seem to be necessary when Culloden waved his wand at the board and... things appeared. SQUINT. Lots of squinting. And possibly some rubbing of his eyes and leaning forwards too.
Okay, yeah, that was MUCH better. Good.
... What wasn't good was the idea of getting up from the comfortable chairs. Did they have to? Taking a deep breath, Alec heaved himself up from his chair and made his way up towards the front of the classroom. It wasn't much of a walk but a metre seemed like a mile right now. Grabbing a bottle of the Lethe River, he headed back towards his desk and, happily, flopped down again. Better. THIS was better.
Three hundred millilitres of water was an accurate measurement, wasn't it? He placed the bottle of Lethe River down before taking out his measuring cylinder. Precise. He had to be precise. After magically cleaning the cylinder, he started filling it up with water -- also magically -- slowly. Slow... slow... right up until...
... the 300 millilitres mark!
Stopping the flow of water, Alec turned to his cauldron and gave that a quick "Scourgify!" too. The water was then added in. There. And... what was the first step again? Two... Leathe River... two drops? Two drops. Nodding to himself, he grabbed the dropper and gave that a quick clean too. He squeezed up some Lethe River before letting one... two drops fall into the cauldron.
There. Done.

When Professor Culloden began giving out instructions, Sander immediately sat up and starting taking notes. They were going to be brewing the Forgetfulness Potion, which Sander thought was an excellent choice, since he was going to need this potion to pass his NEWTs, espeicially if no cure was found by then.
He watched as the instructions appeared on the blackboard and began copying them word for word into his journal.

Once he was done, he pulled out his cauldron, a stirring spoon, a dropper, his measuring cup and lastly, his mortar and pestle. As he was going to be making use of them, Sander decided to clean them all at the same time. Taking out his wand, Sander first pointed his wand inside his cauldron and said,"Scourgify," then he moved on to his stirring spoon, the dropper, his measuring cup, his mortar and pestle and cast the Scouring spell over them too. When he was done, he ended the spell saying, "Finite" before holstering his wand for the time being.
Next he inspected each and every one of them carefully, ensuring that they were spotlessly clean and free from cracks and damage. Now it was time for him to start with the brewing process.
Taking out his wand, Sander pointed it inside his measuring cup and said,"Aguamenti" and watched as water began sprinkling out of his wand and started filling his cup. Sander watched carefully as the water level began to rise and when he had 300 millimeters of water in the cup, he ended the spell again, saying,"Finite".
Sander then carefully poured the water into his cauldron making sure he had every last drop. Now for the lethe water. Sander retrieved his dropper and walked over to the Potions Master's desk where the bottle of the Lethe Water sat, removed the lid, and squeezed up two drops into his dropper, before tightening up the lid again. Then he returned to his cauldron and emptied the contents into it.
Drop...Drop...
Putting down his dropper, Sander picked up his quill and updated his journal.

Once he was done, he put down his quill and waited for further instructions.
Annabeth pretended to be fine, though she was still trying to figure out how to brew a potion without washing her hands. It wouldn't work. Defeated, she walked towards the washbasin and washed her hands sadly. Still she could feel in her hands something as if her hands were tingling. She didn't dare to look at the teacher again and went back to her chair.
The class had began. She took from her bag her Potions book. It was a second hand book, older than her, though it was like new. She suspected that the previous owner had never studied Potions properly.
Anna opened the book at the page she had previously put a piece of paper with some notes from her study. That Forgetfulness Potion seemed to be quite easy to brew and surely she would make a good job.
Professor Culloden was giving them the first guidance. She smiled broadly as she read on her notes the same guidance: fill the cauldron with 300ml of water.
Anna pointed her wand to the cauldron, "Scourgify!", and then she took a graduated 500-ml flask from her bag and filled it exactly with 300ml of water using the spell she had learned from her friend Jory, "Aguamenti!" After pouring it into the cauldron, she checked her book to see the first step.
Lethe River water. To her despair, it was placed at the teacher's desk. The girl run toward the desk and took it quickly, as quick as she went back to her workstation.
"One, Two." Two drops of Lethe river water into the cauldron. Done. She looked at her hand with the phial of Lethe river. She was undecided about what to do. Was she supposed to return the phial to the teacher's desk? She hurried to the desk and left it. Back to her cauldron, she pointed her wand, "Incendio!", adjusting the heater to a medium position and waited twenty seconds.
