Hufflepuff Common Room

Entering the common room through the same corridor as the kitchens the kitchens, you will find a pile of large barrels stacked in the shadowy stone recess to your right. The second barrel from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open when tapped to the enunciation of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. (*Note: non-Hufflepuffs who tap the wrong barrel, or the incorrect number of times, will result in one of the lids bursting off and dousing the trespasser in vinegar)

Following a sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel, which will then travel upwards slightly, a cozy, round, low-ceilinged room comes into view. Welcome! Your common room is like your sanctuary. During your seven years here, your house will be like your family. The room is decorated in the cheerful house colors of yellow and black, enhanced by the use of highly polished honey-colored wood for the tables and then round doors which lead to the boys' and girls' dormitories.

Directly over the wooden mantelpiece, which is covered with carvings of decorative dancing badgers, is a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, your house founder and one of the four Hogwarts founders, toasting her students with a tiny, two-handled golden cup. There are small, round windows level with the ground at the foot of the castle, showing a pleasant view of grass and flowers, occasionally people. As a result of the low windows, the room has a year-round sunny feel to it.

Ian was a little weary from all of the activity. It was probably the most social interaction he had engaged in for one sitting in his whole life. He came into the common room and decided to take some time for a break. He went over by the fireplace and took up a nice spot in a chair. He removed the quidditch manual from the inside of his robe and began reading more about the positions he was seeking on the team.

Bri walked in to the Hufflepuff common room. She grinned, she finally felt like she was a badger! She glanced around the room, and to her delight a comfy-looking chair by the fire place, she went to and sat down with a soft sigh. She saw a boy she recognized at the feast, who was reading a book so she left him alone.

Jordan was a huge fan of how they got into the common room. He wasn't sure if all of the houses were like that, but it felt super secretive, like a hidden fort. Except the fort opened up onto a really comfortable common room. He looked around it with the same open-mouthed excitement he'd been feeling all night, the same words singing themselves over and over in his head:

Anna walked in, nerves going completely crazy. The common room... She was sure she'd love this place but... Right now she had no time to actually enjoy it after the fight her and Mel had... She rubbed her forehead where a clear bump was coming in and sighed, Things were going so well before... and now I'm going to have a bruise on my head for lord knows how long... some best friend. She grumbled to herself before she sat down. She crossed her arms trying to be angry but she couldn't. Anna didn't do angry, she could try to growl and glare but it would never work for her, so she did what she did best, cry. She tried to keep it silent by biting her lower lip but that didn't stop the whimpers from coming out.

The year seemed to have started so well, she'd met new friends and made it into a very welcoming house... and then Mel had to just be her rude self and... She shook her head, not going to continue, knowing it would just upset her more. The third year just curled her legs up into her chest and buried her face in her knees, trying to keep the whimpers from being heard. Maybe she shouldn't have come to Hogwarts after all...

Feeling stuffed and a little tired after the wonderful food she had eaten at the Feast, Lux happily made her way into the Common Room for the first time. She had never been in a room like this before, and was rather enchanted as she saw how cozy it was with all the nice chairs, the fireplace, and the study area.

Heading over to one of the comfy chairs by the fireplace, she took a seat and shortly after drifted off to sleep.

Seeing as the boy has for some reason decided to read a book, Noel's attention pretty quickly drifted away from him and on to the people slowly filling in the place.

And then he saw the girl who had tried to talk to him at the feast.

Maybe she was just upset about being in Huflepuff too? Aww. Feeling sorry for the older girl, the boy handed her a tissue from his pocket. Cause you know, she kinda needed to wipe that nose too.

On her way through the common room, she noticed a someone asleep by the fireplace. Now, that was one of Elodie's choice spots for naps, but it was totally time to get into her bed if she was that exhausted. So she crouched down to the chairs height, left her face as close as possible to the other girls and shook her shoulder. "Sprog!"

"Jordan Knox." Were they supposed to shake hands? He wasn't sure, so he just grinned some more. It was all well and good to talk about air guitar spoons with the Head Boy, but it was great to find someone his own age. At least, it seemed that way. Most of the other students looked excited, but not in the I've never been here before and I'm ready for anything! type way that he and Noel were.

And he just sort of stood there with a big smile on his face. Jordan was inherently comfortable with companionable silences (as evidenced by sitting at the train station between two boys and none of them said a word), but on realizing that Noel might not be he asked, "So what do we do now? D'you know?"

Because there was no way he could sleep right now. He was wired.

Enjoying a lovely dream where she was eating a million Chocolate Frogs, Lux was totally surprised when she was shaken awake by someone. Opening her eyes slowly, she glanced at an older girl, confused and groggy expression on her face. "Whatsasprog?" Was it some type of animal? Or a ghost?

Yawning, she straightened up in the chair and started looking for the 'sprog' the girl had mentioned.

She was awaking! Elodie made sure her face was mega close and shouted "BOO!" before rocking back on her heels and offering a hand to the girl. A sprog? What was one? She didn't know? "You can be a sprog. I think it suits you, kid." And this sprog needed to go to sleep and cuddle some sort of squish and get out of the common room before the big kids rolled up and did things like get in her face and shout boo.

Not Elodie, of course.

"Annaleecia, by the way, Annaleecia Roman." She gave a small nod.

AAAAH! Lux literally jumped in her seat when the girl shouted boo in her ear. That had not been very nice at all, and she had to hold her hand to her head until the ringing stopped. Looking at the girl's hand, she was wary for a moment before taking it so she could get up. She supposed the older girl was right and she should go to bed. She just wished she hadn't been shouted at like that. "But what's a sprog?"

Anna jumped slightly feeling someone next to her, "Fine..." She said weakly, "Just... a fight with my supposed best friend that ended with her throwing a goblet at my head." Hence the bump. She wiped her tears and tried to stop her whimpering. She hated to have others worry about it, mainly because it just felt odd. She didn't really have others who go out of their way to make sure she was alright.

Annaleecia looked back down and nervously twirled a curl. Of course she knew that the younger girl was just being polite and doing what a normal person would do, but at the same time, Anna always felt like a burden when people would check on her.

Encouraged by the older girl, Lux kept twirling a few more times. As long as she did not do it too fast, she would not get sick in the Common Room. After all the food that she had eaten during the feast, this was a very good idea. "Ooh, a famous person." She laughed. This girl seemed fun enough, maybe she actually was popular! "Do you like Quidditch?" Maybe she was a sports star like Christmas and Tessa.

Maybe not the most original of greetings, but oh well. He waved a hand at the room in a general indication and asked, "Did you know you were going to be in Hufflepuff?"

He'd heard some kids talking about it before, how they knew what house they would be in.
