| | Library Bookshelves A large number of floor-to-ceiling bookcases fill up the library, creating aisles upon aisles of books available for students to read and browse. To make finding books for all years a little easier Mr Kitridge has divided the bookshelves into sections like romance, suspense, crime, history, plants and fungi etc.
To return books just walk up to the appropriate shelf and hold up the book. The gripping charm in place on the shelves will take a hold of the book. When you feel a tug on the book let go and the book will fly up and find its right place amongst the other books on the shelves. When retrieving a book you can use the sliding ladders or if you feel confident with your magic you can use a simple accio charm to retrieve the book you want.
In front of each aisle there is small set of desks which students can use to complete homework, copy notes, take book references or chat. Keep your voices down and be mindful of falling books and other students accessing books around you.
Happy reading and learning! |

| for Alice/Derry :3 Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia Well this was sorta odd. Penelope didn't come to the library very often if she could help it, but today, with her fifth year just starting, it kinda hit her that this WAS a pretty important year. She could pretend it wasn't all she liked, and she wasn't SUPER worried or anything...but it wouldn't hurt to think about her future a little bit, yeah? And looking some stuff up about Aurors and at the very least just see what classes she'd need for it if she really decided that was what she wanted to do wouldn't hurt.
So here she was.
But...which section would stuff like that be under? She scanned over the section labels on the bookshelves but there were SO MANY. Why did there have to be so many? Gah. It was overwhelming.

Liiiiiibrary. After she begrudgingly paid the fee at the turnstiles, Derry walked straight to the shelves and started perusing the titles. She didn't even know what sort of book she wanted. She just knew she was going to have to get as many books out as she could at once. Because money. Money was a thing. A thing she didn't have. Sigh.
As she walked along the shelves, pulling out a bunch of books as she went. Ugh, potions. She already had all her school books... but she was hoping another book on potions might give her some more insight on how not to suck at it. Cause she was going to kind of need it if she wanted to be a magical vet type person... Animal healer... whatever they called it. Not that she was sure thats what she wanted to do. She just thought she should keep her options open... being an author wasn't exactly a guaranteed career path.
She was reading the blurb of the latest book she'd picked up when she noticed someone else's presence. Ah! Best-Friend's-Girlfriend-Type-Lady Penelope. "Hey." Derry said, in the sort of half-whisper that befitted libraries, even ones you had to pay for. "Looking for something..?" She looked a bit lost... so help, yeah?

Thank Merlin there wasn't a time limit along with the money on how long she could be in here, because this was taking a little longer than she'd planned. It wasn't like she'd NEVER been in the library since she'd checked out a book or two in it over the years, she just didn't stop by constantly, so she didn't remember where everything was. And it was huge, which didn't help. But surely she'd find what she wanted eventually...
Oh hey, someone was talking. Or whispering actually. Right, that was a thing for libraries. Looking over in the person's direction, Penelope smiled a little when she saw it was someone familiar. Or mostly familiar since she hadn't talked to Derry a whole lot before, but she knew her from playing Quidditch and because she was friends with Ascanius. So this was good. "Yeah," she replied mostly in a whisper. "I was looking for a book on Aurors..." But unfortunately, she couldn't seem to find any on it yet. And with her luck, they were probably right nearby now and she'd somehow missed them.

And with her luck, they were probably right nearby now and she'd somehow missed them. Whisper talking always amused Derry for some reason, it just seemed a bit ridiculous. Like... the books couldn't hear you anyway. ... Actually... it was kind of likely some of the books in this library had ears. Like... the hearing book of hearing or something. Magic was weird, okay? But the point still stands - it's not like a little bit of talking at the shelves was going to disrupt the people sitting in the study area now, was it?
Anyway, that wasn't the point, because whisper-talking was a habit she had developed over her life spent in libraries and book stores. And it wasn't an easy one to shake, no matter how silly it seemed. "Oh cool... you want to be one?" she asked with a smile. That was cool, aurors were awesome... like... wizard police. Derry wouldn't be able to do it, too many new people involved. She could do vet. Animals were easier. "I think they should be over here..." Derry walked to the end of the aisle, trailing her finger over the spines of the books until she came to a section that had stuff about wizarding law. Auror stuff should be here, right?

Penelope nodded. "I'm thinking about it, yeah," she answered in a whisper. She wasn't yet dead set on becoming one, but she liked the idea of it, so it was at the top of her list. Not that her list was very long since it didn't feel like there were a whole lot of things that interested her or that she was actually good at but...still. Auror was the main thing right now. And thankfully Derry seemed to know where the books on them were. The Gryffindor followed with a smile, turning to look at the section of the shelf she seemed to be looking through.
Hmm...this seemed promising... "D'you know what you wanna be?" she whisper!asked, deciding to make conversation as she scanned the spines of the books. Plus she was genuinely curious. It was interesting to see what other people were thinking about doing after graduation.

It had been many moons since Pierson set foot in the Hogwarts library and he had heard of its fire and chaos and the remodel, so he just wanted to see the changes that had been made. Plus, he liked the quiet and the smell of old books. There were a lot less people in here which really wasn't all that surprising.
Wander, waaander....
Oh, man, was that a book about charming vegetables to TALK? He picked it up. FASCINATING. |

Oh, man, was that a book about charming vegetables to TALK? He picked it up. FASCINATING. After studying the shelves for a while, Charlie had a total of... a lot of books in her arms. Who knew when she would be able to come back to the library? It was so expensive. And books were good. Advanced Arithmancy and Transfiguration, a Wizard cook-book thing (as if her papa had any at home!) and the Standard Book of Spells Grade 5, to name but a few, would keep her going for a while.
Typical Ravenclaw, right?
What was not so typical was her total lack of spacial awareness. And vision: the books totally blocked that. So much so that, trying to navigate, she walked straight into someone.
Praying said someone wasn't on the floor, Charlie moved her head around the now teetering pile to see if the were okay, causing a major blush to colour her cheeks. "Uh, sorry Professor," she managed, hiding behind her books again.

It might have been useful if he had ki.................. kids... Well. Okay. Book. Back on the shelf. Time for a different train of thought.
Pierson turned around just in time to see a stack of books with a pair of legs coming straight for him. "Agh!" It was mostly a noise of surprise, but he did notice a moment later that the bridge of his nose hurt. Must have bumped it on the stack of books... with legs.
Oh, it had a head, too. It was a student! "Hello, all good. No injuries here," he said, although he was rubbing his nose. In fact, he was quite surprised she had managed to hold onto all those books. "Must be a Ravenclaw," he joked lightly at the girl as he counted the books in her arms. "You, eh... need some help there?" Piers asked, peeking around the books. |

Charlie stuttered, still behind the books. She'd definitely felt a bump and - peeeeek - he was rubbing his nose.
SHE'D BROKEN THE PROFESSORS NOSE.
No. Okay. Deep breaths.
He knew she was a Ravenclaw?! Charlie almost gasped in delight. "I think this is the first time I've ever felt like one," she murmured. You know, because he knew and all. Or had guessed. Most of the time she felt so... out of place in her house. Maybe that was because not many of her friends were in it. Hmmm. Either way, she smiled slightly, blush still totally covering the whole of her face and ears, and for one felt like the hat had put her in the right place. Nerd. "Erm, if you... uh, don't mind," she stuttered. Like the top book was totally falling now, wasn't it? And she couldn't drop the book! What if she damaged it? D:

D: Pierson wiggled his nose to make sure it was still intact. "Yep. Yep, we're good. No worries." He even smiled at the girl to reassure her. Just a surprise, that was all. He had broken his nose before (at Hogwarts, even) and it had hurt quite a lot more than that did.
He chuckled at her quiet comment and noticed that she was red as a tomato. He was about to comment, when the book on top of her stack nearly fell to the ground. He caught it, though, and even took the few books under it off of her load. "There we go." Problem solved. "Quite the studier, then?" he asked with a nod to the books. Because... well, it was a lot of books. "Next time, the levitation charm might do you some good." He would have done it then, but he had been in a hurry to catch the book and his hands were now full. |

Maybe it would take a while for her face to realise that she need no longer be embarrassed for hitting him?
Or was this a sign that she should be? Sigh. "Thank you, Professor," she said, properly this time, now that she couldn't really hide behind the books, as she could see over them. Not fair. "I guess." Shrug, shrug shrug. "I just... love reading. And learning." And sounding silly, apparently, too.
Okay, she felt even sillier now. "Right. Yes, I can't believe I didn't think about that." You know, she was supposed to be a Ravenclaw, right? She should have thought of that.

Hmm, she was back again in the library and this time she wasn’t planning to do something what was against the rules, no, this time she didn’t wanted to enter the forbidden section, not that it would be fun without Forrest, she liked it to bully HIM and if he was not here she was bored. Seeing him in tears was so good to see! But… she now wondered if it would be a good idea to stop with bullying him, she was a adult now! She was now thirteen years old so she was too good and too smart to bully somebody! Yes, she nodded to herself, she was too good for things like that!
Standing in the middle of the library she looked around her, she wanted to find some animal books because she wanted to know if she could train her rats. They were already rat detectives, and yes, she was VERY proud about that, she already had helped professor Flamsteed in his office! But now she wanted to know if she could learn her rats more! And if there was something to learn about training her rats she could find it here, in the library!
So, with a curious look in her eyes and with her two rats, Little Princess and Sir Blue hidden inside her pocket, she searched for the right section with all the books about animals and taking care of them, while she hoped that the librarian wouldn’t see her, she had already a official warning because she had tried to sneak into the forbidden section, and she didn’t wanted to get in trouble… not this time…
